My boyfriend surprised me for our one-year anniversary with a trip to the beach - we had made a day trip to Seaside the first time we met, so it had a bit of nostalgia for us. I had NO clue what he had up his sleeve, but when we pulled up to this adorable little Victorian style inn, within sight of the water, I was immediately in love. We stayed in the Addie room, which was absolutely perfect. The bathroom has been recently remodeled and it has one of the nicest showers I've ever been in. The bed was beautiful and very comfortable, with a firm but soft mattress. The furniture all has incredible character and adds to the air of charm about the cottage. If you're a fan of character and charm but not looking for a "dated" room per say (what can I say, I like my modern comforts), the Addie room will be the perfect choice for you. The window overlooks the ocean beside the mammoth resort next door, and there is a nice wall-mounted flat-screen TV if you choose to stay inside or the weather is inclimate. In regards to what a previous reviewer said about the surroundings... you have to look beyond that. Seaside is a highly developed strip, and if you want to look around and feel like you're in a cottage in the woods, you're in the wrong place. Once you're inside, though, you do feel like you're in another world all together. Maria, the innkeeper, is just precious and obviously cares very much about her inn and the guests that stay there. She is softspoken and you feel like you're staying with a well-known relative as soon as you meet her. She is totally accommodating and will make sure you have the most pleasant stay possible. The sun room is lovely if you have a spare hour or so. Take a look through their books and have a cup of tea, or take a cat nap in one of the wicker chairs in the sun. Gilbert Inn is very much about small comforts. We'll definitely be back when we can take the weekend away!

Hosts were amazing, sharing the history of the home, giving a tour, making our stay as comfortable as possible. Would definitely recommend!!!

I almost want to give only 4 stars because they no longer offer breakfast, but Jeannine's hospitality and the Inn's beauty compels me to give the full 5. Everything about the Gilbert Inn is warm and welcoming. The fact that there is so much original furnishing, and the owner/operator has a close personal relationship with the place, really makes this place the tops. You really feel like you're staying at a relative's beach-side family home. It's a shame that the city let large developments take over the ocean front, but staying at this inn really gives you a feel of a quaint sea side community. The Gilbert Inn is a great place to stay while you enjoy Oregon' coast. Oh, and the cookies were delicious.

Great experience at the Gilbert Inn. It's is a cute, cozy inn walking distance from town. Maria, the Inn Keeper, is lovely and made the stay very pleasant. The rooms are adorable and the beds are extremely comfortable. Everything was clean and just so. I'd absolutely recommend this place to anyone staying in the area.

It's...ok. I wasn't happy with how close it was to a huge annoying parking structure for some sort of condo that totally blocked out any ocean view and was just dominating the whole scene. The house itself was cute but if you stay on the second floor it sounds like an elephant is on the third floor all night. We stayed 2 nights and the second night when they had a guest on the third floor it sounded like the house was going to cave in and we got horrible rest. But it's a cool old house and the hostess was really sweet but no breakfast which is sad. I feel so sorry for this house because it's so overshadowed by the huge mess to the direct right of it.

This was such a great place to stay. My boyfriend and I decided to drive out to the Oregon Coast and were pleasantly surprised by how beautiful this house was! It's definitely not a chain hotel, but the experience was so much better. The front garden was so pretty and even had a white picket fence and all. The Inn Keeper, Maria, was very friendly when she greeted us at check in. She gave us a brief tour of the house and even had some cookies out for all the guests. The rooms were extremely clean and well kept, and I just loved the old rustic feel of it. The house still has the original wood that it was built with and is the oldest building in Seaside. It was so different from the normal modernness of hotels, but it was a pleasantly welcomed feel and nice to just get away.

What a beautiful old house! Very friendly innkeeper who bakes great cookies. Problem, however. We stayed in the Emma room on 2nd floor. 3rd floor room directly above us and the timbers of the house creaked noisily every time the people above moved around. We did not sleep. This needs to be something other than a room for sleep. Make it into a big hot tub room with an ice machine for the 2nd and 3rd floor guests! Turn it into a writing room with neat old roll top desks, or a media room with a big screen and about five huge old recliners! Not a room for sleeping. It could be a real asset that guests could use from 8 to 10 p.m.

A very charming place to stay, and to experience a piece of Victorian history - all in modern comfort! It's location is quite convenient, too, only 5-10min WALK from the beach, mall, and many restaurants and bars. This Inn was built and own by the original mayor Alexandre Gilbert, 100+yrs ago. Price is reasonable, comparable to most eco-hotels. My wife and I tried to book 2 nights there but were only able to get one night at this restored victorial home. As soon as we stepped into the front door and greeted by our lovely young innkeeper, we immediately fell in love with this charming Inn. Our inkeeper (Maria) is a very warm and knowlegeable hostess, who also bakes incredibly tasty cookies! She and her delicious cookies made us feel warm and welcome! Our room (named after Alexandre Gilbert's wife Emma) is small, but adequate and comfortable; functionally furnished with an antique dresser, a comfortable, queen size bed, and a small dresser. Its attached full size bathroom is large with a bath & shower head, and has extra storage space. The towels are plush; shampoo, soap and lotion are of Judith Jackson brand. Even the coffee pack is custom packaged for the Gilbert Inn. That's classy! The parlor or living room of make one feel like being swept back in time, being in Mayor Gilbert's lovely home over 100+yrs ago! Its beautiful, modern patio is great places to relax over coffee, tea and cookies! There are fresh fruits provided in the morning, also. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Gilbert Inn. We wished we could book another night, but there had been no cancellation! NOTES: 1. Although the inn no longer offers breakfast, there are several great places for breakfast and other meals, only a few minutes WALK away. 2. Though the inn has been beautifully restored, it is neverless an old house. So,it is expected that its floors might be a little squeaky/creaky. We did not find it a problem, though. 3. There is a small private parking lot for inn customers, by the side entrance door. 4. The Inn does not have an elevator or ramp for the wheelchair-bound, unfortunately. 5. Check out its website to select your room: gilbertinn.co ... Peterskis, July 2012

What a charming little inn! I came here with a friend for a weekend retreat and we loved staying at the Gilbert Inn. Designed in Victorian style, the house has all the original wood work from 120 years ago and pictures of the Gilbert family in the late 1800's was posted on its walls. They have a small little area where you can drink your tea or wine and play card games or read a book. The Inn's keeper Maria was very nice. She lives at the Inn and is very helpful explaining the history behind the inn. They also have journals written by past guests you can read and write your experience as part of the Inn's history. Our room, the Alexander Room, was the host to one of Oregon's past mayor. It also still has the original iron cast tub placed in the 1890s. It's obviously been updated but very charming. Our room was romantic especially on a rain and stormy light. The walls do not muffle noise well, so ordinary conversations can possibly be heard by your neighbors. They offer complimentary cookies down stairs. Just to let you know, the stairs in the home are narrow and very steep so those of you who are physically challenged in size or mobility, I recommend requesting a room downstairs. That way you can still enjoy staying at the Inn without the worry about getting upstairs. Overall, this place is a fantastic place for singles and couples alike. With all that goes on in our busy world, it's nice to step back into a place where things are original, simple and stress free. If you haven't stayed here, I highly recommend giving this place a try! You and your partner won't be disappointed.

We love the Gilbert Inn! it is a bummer they don't serve breakfast anymore, but truly there is a wealth of restaurants blocks away. There is also a small coffee maker in each room and fresh fruit out every day which means you don't have to run out for breakfast early and can lounge a bit. We went here for our 2nd baby moon and it was just what we needed. The house itself is beautiful and feels historic, and the owner Jeanine just couldn't be nicer. It is literally one block from the ocean, and Seaside is right in between Astoria and Cannon beach making it a great location to visit both other seaside towns. We will stay here again for sure, highly recommended!

Great romantic, charming alternative to Seaside's otherwise disappointingly bipolar hotelscape of needlessly-enormous corporate behemoths muscling out the oceanfront views and subpar underdogs struggling to stay afloat. The Gilbery Inn is an oasis of passionately-maintained Victorian charm infused with true comfort via the dozens of small, thoughtful choices inserted into the guest experience. The Inn is run solely by the owner, who has a personal and affectionate connection to the history of the house. With a brief tour and a few choice anecdotes, she invites you in not only as a guest, but as a compatriot. Guests stay in small, comfortable rooms, each with standard hotel amenities such as private bathroom, coffeemaker, and tv/dvd. The common areas are bright, roomy, and stocked with goodies. A small touch I appreciated was fragrant soap that really lathered, unlike the typical hotel bars. Some downsides are beyond management's control (no view, directly adjacent to the very noisy Wyndham), but every choice they can control has beeb made for your comfort. Reasonable rates for attainable mood of luxury --a place where you're reasonably spending up for a relaxing romantic mood, but not an economy accomodation by any means. Also not a place I'd bring kids or pets.
