I have loved this place for a long long time. Yes, it's weird. Yes, the sushi master is a little full of himself. The restroom leaves a little to be desired. That said, the sushi is darn good, the miso is hot, the agedashi tofu is usually so yummy,,, and they sort of have a captive audience. I was happy to be held captive, last time, myself. I tucked into several rolls and was a happy happy girl.
Old steakhouse turned sushi restaurant. Bests sushi on the coast. Funky place, slow service, but well worth it. The owner used to have a sushi restaurant in Portland. Tired of the rat race, he moved to the small coastal community of Seal Rock and opened Yuzen. I am so glad he did. Hours are a little odd, and since we often go out to eat at off-peak times, we often find Yuzen closed. We frown and drive on to someplace else.
There used to be a British pub where Yuzen is and the exterior/interior, redone in a Japanese style, reflects that with Celtic looking stained glass windows and big beamed ceilings. But they've added lanterns and twinkly lights and other attractive items to the decor. There are some cozy nooks in here but it isn't glamorous. The dishes and such are on the cheap side and not terribly impressive BUT the food is really good. I've been about four times and my mom goes probably once a week. It's consistently good and they have a big selection of Japanese dishes, sushi and sashimi dishes. At lunch, they have combo plates for about $8 that have a little bit of everything! I got one with salmon, sushi, salad and tempura and it was all fantastic. I've been for dinner several times and had some delicious sushi rolls. The special rolls are better than the standard rolls -- especially the Seal Rock roll. Yum! Service is good though it always seems to take a long time to get the bill.

I pulled over in a mad rush for the one normal looking good establishment we'd seen in a while on our road trip. I really wanted apple pie. We shared corned beef hash with scrambled eggs & Apple pie. It was great! Pricing & portions were typical. It's very typical diner food. Our waitress was the most precious, kind, silly woman. She gave great suggestions & kept my water full which is my number one way to judge service. It's a side of the road, middle of nowhere diner & should be judged accordingly. The bad reviews for this place make me sad. If you're passing through & hungry, this place is predictable, warm, & comforting.
Terrible! Zero service. Waitress or owner or what ever she was, completely pathetic. Extremely rude taking our order. Visibly upset 2 of us only wanted water. Did not bring water for my wife. After taking our order completely ignored us. Never got rest of waters or coffee refill. Only 2 other tables in the whole place being used. Finally after 20 minutes I walked up to the front and asked for more water and coffee and she very rudely said when she gets time. That was enough we left. Too bad because we were staying at a little hotel a couple miles down the road for a 4 day weekend for the 4th of July and had service been even decent we probably would have eaten here at least 4 times. I have never in my life left a place after placing an order before the food arrived.
This place has really gone downhill. Neither the food nor the service is good. Overpriced. And the owner is absolutely rude.
