My grandkids and I enjoy their maple nut Pershings! They are large, maple lovers icing and a bunch of cinnamon in its wraps! The original Joe is a personal friend of mine and he hooked me on these forty years ago! Perfect delight!

Delicious donuts, but beware of the Grumps. Sometimes it is VERY clear who got up at the crack of dawn to make the donuts. I like the powdered filled with raspberry jam.

Visited Oregon for my first time last month and was excited to try VooDoo and Blue Star donuts... let me STOP you before you waste your time and money! Both are highly overrated and overhyped! Thankfully a local told us about Joe's and OMG donut heaven! Frosting was perfect not overly sweet and the cake part of donut tasted like a donut with lots of flavor! I especially love the Marionberry? One :) This is THE donut spot top go to in Oregon! Trust me and the locals lol

If Paula Deen opened a donut shop, this would be it. I imagine they get butter by the truckload because they are making up donuts that are unlike anything I have ever seen. The frosting is straight up buttercream and the dough is straight up butterdough and I am 99 percent certain "butterdough" isn't even a word. Doesn't matter. It fits so I'm using it. I took one bite of the butterdough cake donut and it melted in my mouth. Literally. Like such a large percentage of the donut was butter that the sucker just melted away on my hot tongue. Beyond the initial bite, I didn't have to chew! I just held it lovingly in my mouth and swallowed. Man, that's delicious. Am I moaning aloud or just in my head? I actually bought two donuts. And couldn't finish a single, let alone both. There's a limit to the amount of knock-you-socks-off-sweetness I can handle. I am ashamed to admit I tossed them. I had to, I promise, stop judging me. Within ten minutes of purchasing these little butterdough bombs, the bag had become completely translucent in spots, proof that butterdough does have it's faults. My heart is probably better off for the decision to rid myself of them, but my taste buds will never forgive me.

I like to refer to my donut preferences as donut snobbery. A true test of donut artistry (in my very biased opinion) is consistently perfecting the classics (i.e., old fashioned, maple bar, apple fritter). I am constantly looking and/or yearning for donut perfection--living in the general Portland area opens the figurative donut hunting grounds wide open. All this to say, Portland may take the trophy home in the category of novelty but out in Sandy, Oregon, Joe's Donuts knows how to do a donut. I was introduced to Joe's a few years back and have never wavered in my resolve (thus far) that Joe's truly does THE BEST classics in Northwest Oregon (keep in mind my donut travels are nowhere near exhaustive). Joe's is worth visiting to truly get a taste of all the glory that comes from a perfectly done donut. Other perks include the cost and charm of the diner feel set up of Joe's interior. Joe's maple donut will always have my heart (sorry my love).

Really cute place with a great assortment. The croissant sandwiches are amazing and I like simple donuts - the donut holes are addictive!

  • Jenn T.

I stopped after seeing them in a recent Portland Monthly issue, and was not disappointed! All I've had is the cinnamon roll, but if it's not broke, don't fix it. It's $1.50 and straight out of heaven. Soft, smooth and full of cinnamon God goodness. In three weeks, I've been back two other times and it's not a close drive. Guess you could say I'm hooked.

  • Robert G.

The pumpkin rum donut is my favorite; loaded with cinnamon and plenty of pumpkin. The coffee is good and they have soy milk as an option. I wish they would have coconut milk for the coffee; unfortunately, only Starbucks offers this.

  • Rachel H.

This place is adorable, and conveniently right off of the highway. The prices are super reasonable and their baked goods are always fresh. The cronut and the raspberry bear claw are insanely good.

  • paul s.

Historical practically, been going here 45 years. Never changes, just warm yummy greasy huge donuts. Expect a long line during ski season. Definitely worth a stop in Sandy, plus the cheapest coffee drinks anywhere

    (5)
  • Patrick B.

Great little shop with a big reputation. Breakfast items, coffee any way you want it, and the freshest pastries anywhere.

    (5)
  • Bec H.

Awesome donuts! The maple bars are the best. I'm not a fritter person but my husband loves those. I must admit even I liked them.

    (4)
  • Cari J.

Small shop, not that friendly service, feeling of being rushed, overly stuffed donuts, but still yummy.

    (4)
  • Lenny A.

This is as good as it gets when it comes to greasy unhealthy donuts that you crave. Their Apple Fritter is the best one I've ever had, as they use real chunks of apple and not some can of chunky apple sauce. Creme filled are also great cause they don't use fake sugar based chemical filled garbage. A must stop in on your way to the mountain or get a couple dozen for a weekend camping trip.

    (5)
  • Natalie T.

Delicious,BUT,if you are a vegan or vegetarian as myself, you need to know their doughnuts contain LARD. I was told that only their baked, not fried production does not contain it. So make sur you ask, which products are vegetarian friendly that day.

Excellent donut shop in Sandy, OR. On the way to Mt Hood National forest. A perfect pit stop on your way to skiing/hiking! Its very cheap and very very tasty. I got the applesauce and the old fashioned. Both were delicious!

  • Craig R.

Admittedly, I have not tasted every donut in Oregon, but I have to say that this donut shop is something else and in my humble opinion, the absolute best! Consistent and friendly staff, DELICIOUS donuts. Don't let the line (sometimes it's out the door) worry you, it moves quickly and is well worth the wait. I've been coming here for the last fourteen years and I have not had a bad donut or breakfast sandwich-- that should go to show how amazing this place is. You can have your voodoo and blue star donuts, but Joe's rules!!

    (5)
  • Zack D.

You can keep your Voodoo. Joe's is where it's at. They follow my favorite rule. "KISS" Keep it simple, stupid. They don't have wild and crazy donuts, but what they do have is the best maple bars and glazed donuts around. Top donut shop in the PNW.

This is a perfect stop for doughnuts & coffee. If you missed breakfast, or even if you didn't, Joe's Donut Shop is the place to stop for unhealthy, sugar loaded doughnuts before spending the day snowboarding, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, etc. on Mt. Hood. They're open at 5am with freshly baked doughnuts ready for you to purchase & consume. Maple bars, apple fritters, custard-filled & cherry-filled bars, bear claws, cake doughnuts, maple bars with bacon, cheesecake doughnuts, & a crap ton of other options fill the display cases. Prices are cheap & they accept credit cards. Hot coffee or cold drinks from the coolers are available for purchase as well. Joe's is a small shop & the line usually extends out the door but don't let that deter you from stopping. The staff are quick & they'll get you on your way within 10 minutes. Their parking lot can fit maybe 10 vehicles otherwise park on the street or the lot directly across from Joe's. I'm always up for stopping here for a doughnut or two because I know by days end those calories will be burned off. Even if they aren't, I don't care. I ate breakfast & that's all that matters.

  • Scott A.

What you can't tell from these reviews or from Joe's website is that the creme-filled donuts are actually filled with REAL custard. Not that nasty faux-pudding stuff in every other creme-filled donut at other shops. I haven't had real custard in a donut in over 15 years. A taste of childhood... mmmmm... Also, I love that their cronuts are just deep-fried and glazed croissants. Best donuts around.

  • katz l.

Fantastic donuts! Not overly sugary like voodoo donuts. I preferred this one over voodoo donuts. It's a must-stop if you're in Sandy.

    (5)
  • Bob K.

Joe's Donuts. Great place to stop before hitting Mt. Hood Do not pass up Joe's. Maple bar with bacon was really amazing. Fresh every day. Cinnamon rolls were filled with a huge amount of cinnamon sugar. Not you Safeway donuts.

    (5)
  • Kate H.

Delicious classic donuts. Nothing crazy or overpriced. Perfect old fashioned and I loved the blueberry fritter.

  • Mark W.

A landmark on the way to Mt. Hood. I go that way every time I drive to Bend and sometimes it's twice a month. Don't stop there that often but when I do I always have two donuts. Whatever I happen to feel like whether it is an apple fritter; glazed donut; maple bar etc.. and always a plain cake donut. How I judge a donut shop is how good they make a plain donut. You can doctor up anything with icing; glazes and extra ingredients. But how good is the canvas you starting with? And oh boy Joe's does it good! Nice moist and tender dough and that awesome bits of crispiness in the inner ring. Yup that's a whole lotta love. Mmmm Add a nice hot cup of coffee and I am wide awake with sugar and caffeine for the drive. I am not a fan of the big chain donut shops but always seek out the local places. Joe's Donuts is my favorite of all of them.

    (4)
  • Jeff S.

Joe's Donuts are amazing. We have been there numerous times and felt it was finally time to add a review. The line for donuts is consistently out the door, but unlike VooDoo, these donuts are worth the wait. On our most recent trip we split a maple bar and a cronut. Both were excellent. Joe's is a bit out of the way for us, but is always worth the drive.

    (5)
  • Siaosi L.

I've had plenty of donuts in my lifetime and I must say the 'Apple Fritter' here ranks amongst the best.

    (5)
  • Harmoni W.

The donuts were good! The service was fast and friendly. We will definitely be returning when we return to Sandy, OR in the near future.

    (4)
  • Irina D.

Don't know what happens to Joes donuts... It is mediocre at best now. Staff is sloppy and rude (last 2 times I was in at least they were), one girl was sitting on top of some shelves with her feet on top of them- inches away from the donuts (I assume she was taking a break). Donuts are not as good as they used to be, and DO NOT get their breakfast burritos- they are HORRIBLE. I tried them twice, hoping it was just a fluke... But I've heard from others the same thing. It's sad that such a great place is taking a steady decline. Used to be so good, now I would rather get a donut at Safeway on the way out of town.

    (3)
  • Andrea P.

Joe's Donuts is a favorite of ours! Their maple bars, glazed donuts and apple fritters are terrific. Much better than Voodoo or Krispy Kreme! Must say the applesauce is my favorite!

    (5)
  • Frank O.

OMG!!!!!!!! These donuts are smack yo mama good!!!!!! Best I have ever had!!!!!! Fritters and cake donuts to die for. Always a home run, always fresh.

    (5)
  • Levi L.

Donuts are delicious, and Joe's makes good donuts. Period.

    (4)
  • Kim I.

I love these donuts. I've tried the jelly/fruit filled ones and then the regular plain glazed donut and they are all to die for. I always order it with a chocolate milk and I am in heaven. I don't even necessarily ever crave donuts, but these donuts are delicious. Waaaaay better than Vodoo Donuts. I'd much rather wait in line for these before a day of snowboarding then forever at Vodoo. A few times, I have driven up to Sandy just to get these donuts and didn't even head up to Hood that's how delicious they are. The staff is always friendly despite how busy they are. Thanks guys for making such yummy treats! They also offer a donut bouquet. I'd much rather get one of those than roses haha. :)

  • Carrie R.

My husband and I stopped here on our way to go skiing at Mt. Hood and it was love at first sight! For $4.00 we got a cup of freshly brewed coffee, and 2 mouth watering donuts. I think this place makes better donuts than Voodoo in Portland and they are a lot cheaper. I bought the maple bacon bar and the dough was so soft & fresh. My husband said that the apple fritter was the best he has ever tasted. I also agreed. This is our new stop off on our way to Mt. Hood!! =) What a gem!

    (5)
  • Todd H.

Headed to or from the mountain?? You cant help but see the red and white brick building. If theres a line its open. They don't have all the fancy toppings and unusual flavors cause they seem to have found their niche. Make good donuts. Stick with the ones you sell and make more as needed. Serve people really quick and keep them smiling. Simply the best donuts in the Portland Metro area.

    (5)
  • Jeremiah J.

Stopped by on my way to Central Oregon. The display had no maple bars, so the clerk made us some on the spot including still warm frosting and freshly baked doughnut base. They were delicious!

    (5)
  • Katie W.

Hands down the best donuts place ever! They dont just only have donuts they have really good breakfast burritos they're huge and you get your money's worth too! They serve it all including good coffee espressos, We've been going here for years and out of all thw donut places I've had (yes including Voodoo Donuts) Joes Donuts is the best!!!

    (5)
  • Jeff A.

This is a solid donut shop, but not amazing. They had some hits and misses. The apple sauce donut melts in your mouth. The cronut was something different, a fried and glazed croissant. Very good. The twist was tasty. The Fritter was below average, flat and over glazed. The donuts were more sugary then average which was a downside. The donuts weren't very aesthetically pleasing, the frosting application was a bit haphazard and the raised donuts were all pretty flat. However, I would go back on my occasional way through town.

    (4)
  • Cedar Creek R.

Yes I will take Joe's over Voodoo's any day. Plus it's less then 3 minutes from my house. Please don't stone me - Portlandians.

    (4)
  • CRAIG N.

The best doughnuts in the state! PERIOD! If you are ever passing through you MUST stop and get a few!

    (5)
  • Kathryn K.

Made the trip once again and was not dissapointed. Always such a pleasure to go here.

***A "MUST" stop if you're headed to Mt. Hood*** I've come to the conclusion that although I love sweets, donuts are not high on that sugar-laden list. I don't have that craving as much as I do for ice cream. =X I was working in the area and my donut-toting friends were harping how I "should" check out Joe's Donut Shop. I decided to see what the "fuss" was all about due to the glorious reviews on Yelp (and my friends' recommendation). [devour] *APPLE FRITTER ($1.30; **3 STARS**) - Many people on yelp recommended the apple fritter as a go-to item. I do agree that they do make a good apple fritter. The texture of the bread was soft and fluffy. BUT what was a disappointment - too much glazed sugar. So sweet that tt hurt my teeth....... I thought the apple part had enough sugar within it. There was an abundant amount and I thought it was unnecessary. The donut is already sweet as it is. But I did think that this donut was much better than the maple bar I also tried. *MAPLE BAR ($1.35; **3 STARS**) - Their maple bar is larger in size than what you would see at your typical donut shop. My first bite into the donut, I found that the bread was a bit sour. But as I ate the donut with the maple glaze, it seemed to mask the sour-ness of the bread. FYI = -Parking on the street -Look for a red-white brick building on the one-way street -No restrooms -Donuts are CHEAP (range $1-$3) -Coffee and tea also available -Memorabilia t-shirts also for sale -Not sure if CC's accepted, but bring CASH -Donuts made fresh DAILY Overall - decent donuts for those who love a sugar high. But it was too much sugar for me..... =X Yelp 2013 100+ Reviews Challenge (going for 200!) - Review #192

The best donuts around! The line out the door on weekends with fresh snow in the mountain doesn't lie

    (5)
  • Matt W.

I've driven by Joe's Donut Shop since 1995 and finally stopped in for the first time. Best Maple Bar I've ever eaten. Old Fashioned Glazed was great. Plain Cake was moist and delicious. Raised Glazed melted in my mouth. The donuts were cheap. I was helped at the counter with no problem or attitude. I will never pass Joe's again!

    (5)
  • Jana A.

Try the cronut. Whatever you do, try it. Delicious and so so worth it. Others were good top, but the cronut was tops.

    (5)
  • David B.

Joe's has the Best "Simple" doughnuts I have ever tasted. They don't try to over complication the doughnut and are masters at creating a delicious tasting doughnut with out all the gimmicks. Dont Waste your time with the "Pink Boxes" place All you get is stale cereal stuck on crappy tasting doughnuts that make you wish you had just went to Joe's in Sandy. Joe's Is number 1 in places to stop when traveling to Sandy. If there is a line rest assured that it WILL be worth the wait.

    (5)
  • Bob R.

This is a review by a vegetarian You see, rest of Portland donut establishment, it's not that complicated. Make a reasonable number of variations of donuts that don't have 10 made up words per name and they can be good instead of "unique". Anyway, these are real donuts. They are good. Friend enjoyed her blueberry fritter as well.

    (4)
  • Will E.

Holy Fritters!!! Cherry, Apple, Blueberry, Raspberry Bear Claws with raspberry filling, donuts galore, juices and teas... HOW COULD YOU GO WRONG HERE!?!? I was introduced to Joe's on my second trip up to Mt. Hood and have been thankful for Joe ever since; not to mention Alex C who was responsible for that connection which is now stronger than any match dot com romantic couple claim. Those 6am meet-ups and departures are well worth it once you pull up to the little checkered shop that could have easily been plucked from any of Aesop's fables. Upon my recent visit I noticed a sign that said a $0.50 surcharge would be added to all orders under $5 if paid by debit or credit. The irony here is anyone who orders less than $5 no matter how they pay should be charged an additional $5 on sheer principle! Let's face it; they are inexpensive but there should be a method to your madness. It's imperative you map out your purchase while in line because before you know it you will be at the register. It is a surprise but the line moves that quickly, especially on mornings when both registers are open. So, please allow me to detail just how you should plan your order: 1. Order what you would like to eat now 2. Pick out a beverage 3. Decide and order what you would like to eat later!!! #3 is especially important because you will work up an appetite after hit the mountain all day! Shredding refers to more than snow; even if you stop for lunch you will still return to the car as if you had climbed the Himalayas and at that time there's nothing more satisfying than a full Cherry Fritter waiting for you in the car! Here's to Joe!

    (5)
  • Jeffrey J.

I am lucky if I can leave the place without eating at least one of the donuts that I just purchased. Not easy when you are the one sent to get donuts for everyone and all you want to do is sit and eat everything you just ordered.

    (5)
  • Christopher K.

Joe's cake and old fashioned donuts are pretty close to the best I've had in the Portland area. The apple sauce and the blueberry cake donuts are ridiculously good, super moist and crumbly, not dry and overly dense like the ones found in downtown Portland for 5x the price. I'm not a huge apple fritter fan, but my friends tell me they're the best they've had as well. I always have a hard time deciding whether the cake or the old fashioned buttermilk donuts are my favorite, and then I eat the cinnamon pershing, and I think maybe it's that one, and... oh shit, they're all really damn good. Joe's loses a star here for the breakfast sandwiches, which are really not good at all, and the coffee, which isn't great. Stop here on your way to wherever you're going on or beyond Mt. Hood. Maybe bring a few donuts home with you. They're almost as good on day two!

    (4)
  • Vanessa A.

So incredibly delicious! I've had the glazed old fashioned & maple Pershing/peanut. I was afraid they wouldn't be open by the time I made it or that they wouldn't be as good for sitting out all day...they were open & tasted super fresh. If you're a fan of donuts, you owe it to yourself to pay a visit the next time you're anywhere near the area. I have to say they're the best I've had!

    (5)
  • Erin K.

Great place to swing by for snow park permits and a couple doughnuts. I was excited to see that they also offer breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches. I shared a giant burrito (only $3.75!) and a cream filled doughnut with my husband on our latest visit. The only let down was that they only had blueberry and cherry fitters and no classic apple fritters.

    (4)
  • Nathaniel M.

Awesome donuts! The custard and marionberry ones are a must! There's an awesome park behind them down the hill to take them to eat too.

    (5)
  • Tessa H.

I have to say I was not as pleased as I was hoping for with ALL the raves. I did throw the extras I bought out. I just got a few maple bars, and half was all I could do. I'm still a voodoo lover..! I do have to say though I know many that love this place and just cause I don't like them doesn't mean you shouldn't try it. Least once :)

  • Dan H.

How had I never stopped at Joe's Donut Shop all these years of passing it on the way to Mt. Hood or points East? I don't know, but that is not the case anymore. We finally stopped here on our way out to do some snowshoeing on Hood. I don't eat donuts very often, but I won't deny myself this tasty treat once in awhile. I'm glad we got there after the rush as I've passed this place with a line out the door. Maybe that is why I never stopped before. In some of the previous reviews people mentioned the apple fritters. I inquired about those only to be told that they also had blueberry fritters. Mind is racing. Mind is racing. Blueberry fritter it is. It was good. I wish I could tell you more than that about it, but I inhaled it within a few seconds. Next up, a glazed donut. I like glazed donuts because of the simplicity of them. They are like a plain slice of pizza. Nothing spectacular about them, but the flavors aren't hidden beneath chocolate or sprinkles or anything else so that the true flavor can really come out. If I find a good glazed donut somewhere, I'm a customer for life. This one was so light. It was like eating donut flavored air...but in a good way. So, there it is. You can't miss this red and white checked building. It will call to you as you drive through Sandy on your way east. Eat our donuts. Eat our donuts. Trust me. You will.

    (4)
  • Robert W.

Anytime I go up to Mt. Hood this is a must stop. These donuts are far superior to any others I have tried locally. Melt in your mouth delicious!

    (5)
  • Aaron R.

This is the place to assemble your caravan on the way up Mount Hood. First off, you can't miss the place -- it looks like it should be one of those shacks near an airport runway, since it's painted in red and white stripes. The donuts are good, and they don't run out as quickly as other shops might. The best deal is their coffee: I've never seen flat-rate coffee drinks before. Same price regardless of size or shots. Definitely a deal.

    (4)
  • Angela M.

Love, love, love this place! In 8 year's we've never had a bad donut here! Moved to Troutdale so it's not as easy to get our fix but we don't mine the drive. Much better quality than Voodoo and consistant! :-) Well worth the drive!

  • Mrs. M.

Sorry fellow Yelpers and Joe's. Please don't send me nasty emails for what I'm about to post... We LOVE donuts...and I mean LOVE. So, before we even got to Oregon, we started yelping donut shops in the area. After reading all the rave reviews, we decided to stop at Joe's and grab some donuts. I'm sorry, but our taste buds did NOT agree with you Joe lovers. Though large and inexpensive, the cake donut with chocolate frosting I bought was greasy and lacked flavor. The frosting was meh and haphazardly thrown on. My daughter had a raised glazed, my hubby had an old fashioned and we all agreed that these donuts were not great. The young lady at the counter acted like we were bothering her by buying donuts. There was no greeting, no "thank you," none of the friendliness that Oregonians are known for. I don't know...maybe we're just spoiled by the amazing (and friendly) donut shops in our area (Castro Valley Donuts, for one), but when we return to Oregon next year, we'll stop go elsewhere when we have a donut craving.

  • Pat E.

FABULOUS donuts! We used to bike here from Gresham, eat as many calories as we'd just burned, then zip back, happy. I think these are the best donuts for 100 miles -- best fritters, old fashioned, apple sauce ... Man, I can't even think about Joe's donuts without longing to travel there. Outrageously good. Worth a long bike ride.

    (5)
  • Mel O.

Not just 5 stars for their Sandy location but 10. We are treated to Joe's donuts at the Arrow Coffee Shop in Damascus; treated = having for purchase. The quality is far superior to others donuts available locally, and perhaps, only closely matched sort-of by Donut World in Gresham (where I drive to just for their donuts when Arrow doesn't have on Saturdays and Sundays). Frankly, I wish they'd open a store in Damascus. In fact, being a city councilor, I would like them to consider opening a store here in Damascus. You are missing out on a DONUT TREAT if you haven't tried Joe's in Sandy. I like the Glazed Old Fashion, Maple Bars and Fritters the best, BUT ALL GOOD !

    (5)
  • Janine O.

It is your classic donut shop with the checkered floor and donuts that melt in your mouth. It is a must to stop on your way to Mt. Hood!

    (5)
  • Amanda P.

Only reason it gets 4 stars is because the donuts are definitely worth stopping for- seriously- do not do yourself the disservice of not having one. However, the coffee needs some work (a little old tasting and luke warm). Plus the atmosphere was seriously mosoleum-esque. The lady at the register never smiled and seemed bothered by working. The other customers in there were completely silent, chewing on their donuts and staring at us, looking unhappy to be there. Bottom line: do stop in for donuts, but don't stay, just grab and go. If you have time, I also suggest getting coffee elsewhere.

    (4)
  • Calvin N. H.

If you haven't been to Joe's while heading up to Mt. Hood on a weekend morning... well, you're about the only one. This place has a line for a reason. Simply said, these are the best doughnuts I've ever had. And I've had a lot. My kids go crazy for the maple bars, the apple fritters can make you weep, and if you're feeding a crowd, you can get a mixed baker's dozen (remember those?) for a good price. This place is a bare-bones icon. No automated showpiece mass-producing doughnuts while you watch, the only kitschy thing about the place is the hand-painted red-and-white checkerboard pattern on the outside bricks. The seating is sparse, the coffee is fair, and there is little room for more than the line of people waiting to taste the best doughnut around.

    (5)
  • Jess T.

Delicious. I love the custard filled beauties. It's a good thing I don't live close by...

    (5)
  • Colleen S.

Joe's!!!! This is why I go camping.....I can never pass up this little red checked gem on the way to the mountain. The maple bars...real maple frosting, not like artificial flavor at Safeway, etc...the custard filled chocolate frosting, the round one....has so much homemade custard it plops out as you try to eat it. They are sublime....The simple cinnamon cake donuts and the buttermilk bars! Never a "donut person" before being introduced to Joes 12 years ago. Voodoo in Portland is trendy but Joe's is a true, homemade donut shop of pure bliss.

  • Joe D.

Being someone who has traveled quite a bit here in the US and abroad, I have never ever found donuts that could stand up to good Dunkin Donuts, selected Krpspy Kreme or Tim Hortons Donuts.. Until now.. If God had decided that mankind was to have one Donut shop and all of his alien creations could only eat at one of them, then it would be Joe's Donuts in Sandy, Oregon. Wifey and I have stopped here at least three different times on our way up to the Mt. Hood area for hiking. Every time, we have not been disappointed in any shape or form and we have tried a wide variety of the donuts that they have.. We could have just eaten a huge breakfast and we would still stop in to pick up donuts for then, later that day and in some cases to hide in the car for in the morning when we got up! This place rocks.. The Best Damn Donuts I have ever had in Oregon.. VooDoo Donut's are PooPooh compared to Joe's. Joe's equals Donuts extraordinaire!!

  • Matt E.

Awesome spectacular donuts every time. Love the maple and chocolate bars, and the marionberry filled. Service is always good. Busy every time I've been there, but the employees keep the people moving through, plus it's worth the wait.

Awesome donuts, may be the best in the entire known universe. The wait is worth it. Have been there many times and have sampled just about every donut and cookie they offer. Coffee is great and at a good price, the same no matter what size. I love you Joe!!!

You can't miss the red and white building on the way to our favorite mountain. Try the applesauce doughnuts; they are gloriously moist and sweet. Great apple fritters and bear claws. Well done, Joe. Well done.

At long last after recovering from my amnesia, I get to remember the name of this donut shop. I have always described it as th red and white checkerboard donut shop. This was one of the better donuts I've had. I first have it when we went snowboarding at Mt. Hood. It was awesomely gooey and sweet. Not so sweet but sweet enough to make me shorten my day trip to the mountain and go back here again. Too bad, they were closed. They close quite early if I'm not mistaken. Arrgh! I found my four leaf clover then when I found out that a coworker lives nearby and he swears by it as well. I have to give my lucky charms my pot of gold as bribe to get me a box of mixed donuts. I guess I'm a leprechaun with a sweet tooth. Very sweet tooth cause I keep on giving him money to buy me a dozen almost every week. Off with the clovers, charms and golds. Back to reality. It looks like this is also the place for breakfast before you head up to the mountain.

If your driving through Sandy on your way up to Mt. Hood, you can't miss the checkerboard building that says' "Joe's Doughnuts." Cute little place that offers everything from breakfast sandwiches, cookies, coffees, teas and of course, doughnuts. They have cream filled, apple fritters, bear claws, jelly filled, rainbow sprinkled cake doughnuts and more. If it's a sugar rush you want before snowboarding, don't forget to stop at Joe's. Made Fresh everyday.

There is a lot of mountain and desert to cover and we're burning daylight. . Better stop at Joe's and load up the saddle bags with some incredibly delicious kid bribes. And maybe a snow pass for the horseless carriage. Just incase Mt Bachelor has a blue bird day this weekend.

Really good, big donuts and surprisingly not greasy. Fluffy donut with right amt of frosting. Will be stopping in again on the way out of town in future.

What donut shops used to be like before irony wrecked everything. No breakfast cereal, smoked meats, or Kool-Aid powder, just really excellent donuts. Cheap, fresh, and large.

Decent doughnuts and good coffee, but completely surly, over-the-top-rude cashier ensures I will send the dude in while I wait in the car next time. EEK.

Let me start by saying that I love doughnuts. I also enjoy drip coffee. Joe's has very good versions of both, and the doughnuts border on spectacular. I have tried the chocolate-frosted cake doughnuts, the frosted, and a wonderful maple-glazed fried cinnamon roll. All are recommended. The service is friendly, and the prices right. A must-stop on Highway 26!

A colleague just brought these all the way to Beaverton. I'm not usually a fan of cake donuts but holy $#!^ these are fantastic! When I'm able to pry myself out of my chair, I may have to go on a road trip.

Simply put: Joe's makes the best donuts. Period. I've never had a better donut (apple fritter, cake, jelly filled, original, bear claw, etc) anywhere else. They are heavy and dense, so if you prefer light and fluffy ones similar to the hot glazed from Krispy Kreme, look elsewhere. But, if you're like me and think that real donuts have some "umph," look no further! You've reached donut heaven! :-D And on top of that, if you get there before they sell out, they offer an outstanding sausage breakfast burrito. Personally, my favorite on the west coast. I've noticed that other reviewers have criticized the staff for being cold, slightly rude, and acting as if you're inconveniencing them by buying their donuts. And you know what, those reviewers are right! But, that doesn't change the fact that Joe's Donuts simply makes the best donuts ever. They're so good, and (to me) the staff is part of the experience--part of what makes "Joe's" "Joe's". It's a very special place, and I will definitely be stopping in again the next time I can make it to Oregon!

Joe's is more than convenient on the way to the Mountain. They have regular coffee and espresso's. Tons of sugary donuts that are really good. Never stale pieces of cardboard that have a armor shell and nothing on the inside. I dont do sweets early in the morning often, but on occasion I'll have a donut. We always stop no matter what because you can also buy Parking passes there for the Mountain!

Joe and I meet up every time I go to the mountain. I order the apple fritter each time. I take one or two bites, almost keel over from a sugar coma, share some bites with whomever is with me, and save a couple bites for the ride home. It's worth noting that they are really good about blasting the heat in here. So if you happen to not have heat in your car, like me, it's a nice place to thaw.

Everyone stops at Joe's on the way up to Mt Hood from Portland. The sweet smell of donuts hits you from all sides. They are so yummy and are basically and institution in Sandy. Grab some donuts and go eat them in Meinig Park right behind the building. I'm a huge fan of the maple bars and the triple chocolate donuts. Grubbing!

Dear Joe's, I miss you! I don't know how I neglected to come visit more often when I lived in the Portland area!!! If Joe's mailed out fresh donuts I would be their biggest customer based off my consumtion of maple bars and french cruellers alone. Fortunately, they don't mail donuts and therefore, I don't have to constantly run up and down the hills of San Francisco to make up for it.

The crummy little place on the side of the road leading to Mount Hood is a must stop for crumby delights. My two favorites are the cinnamon twist and the apple fritter. The council of Ol' men that solve all the worlds problems each morning are an excellent source of entertainment. The crowds can be extreme during ski season. Stop at Hawaiian Beanz Coffee in Damascus they get Joe's donuts delivered each morning.

Awesome donuts!!! We stopped in to get our pass for the mountain, line was out the door. Very much worth the wait.

If you want to experience what geological time feels like, drop by Joe's. I've been going there for probably 30 years and they have not adapted to the increase in customer volume now that they're world famous. If this were Mayberry and they only had to deal with Floyd, Goober and Opie, their glacial pace would be fine, but come on! I just want one maple bar!!! I don't know, maybe having to go through that kind of torture just makes the reward sweeter, so maybe I should take a broader view. And, customers: you've been in line for 10 minutes, what have you been thinking about all that time? Not donuts, that's for sure. Or the coffees you decide you want after we have watched you struggle with your donut-decision like it was Sophie's Choice or something. Oh, yeah, and do you have hot cider? AHHHHHH!!!! My new personal favorite, which I saw today: guy is in line for quite awhile, per normal. They call him to the register, and he dials his phone and starts consulting with the person on the other end, ignoring the clerk. There are people lined up out the door!!! Between clueless customers and horrendous service, it has to be pretty slow for me to stop in. Sometimes you get fooled and think, "Oh, there are only 5 people in line ahead of me, two registers are open, so it should go quick." Ha! Don't underestimate the synergistic capabilities of mouth-breathing donut eaters and a place with no discernible structure to it's customer service. The donuts are awesome sugar-bombs, that hasn't changed, but after days like today, they're more likely to curdle in my gut because of the stress you go through to buy one.

Amazingly tasty and big donuts. If you want trendy and don't care about taste or quality go to Voodoo donuts which is some of the most over rated crap in Portland. If awesome taste is important to you its worth making the trip to Joe's in Sandy.

mmm glazed donut or the old fashioned glazed is good! I like stopping here on the way to the mountain from time to time. Oh and don't forget to buy a milk, you are going to need it with these delicious soft and squishy donuts.

Best doughnuts (or donut) on the planet!! The line is long but worth the wait! I love walking up to Joe's on Saturday mornings to get a delicious doughnut then walk across the street to Mountain Moka for a yummy latte or whatever fun drink of the month they are featuring. My favorite part about Joe's - the school cafeteria meets 50's decor inside, I love that its a favorite destination of mountain goers, and that the bulletin board inside is filled with local events and activities.

I am laying awake just dreaming of when I can stop by Joe's on my way over the mountain in the morning. Forget that over rated gook they call VooDoo donuts, thats not a real donut folks, thats a gimmick. Joe's is the real donut!

Oh Joes, you are the perfect way to start a day of skiing. Your red and white painted bricks becon me as I drive up Highway 26. You're always full of locals which is a good sign. A cup of coffee to go and a bear claw and I'm on my way. I can't resist your lure I'm just sad I don't live closer.

We stopped here on the way to Mt. Hood. I think these are the best donuts I've ever eaten. Everything we had was delicious. We lucked out since they had a special pumpkin rum donut during our visit. Usually my favorite is the old-fashioned; however, the buttermilk bar here won the contest by a mile.

On the way up to Mt. Hood from the westside, this is the perfect place to stop and grab something yummy, a cup of coffee, and even get your snowpark pass!
