Whenever I come to Hometown buffet I expect pudding. There wasn't tapioca but there was banana pudding which satisfiedy taste buds. Thry have enough seating host a large event which they advertise for. It's a huge establishment. It's clean and well lit too. Food was well prepared. Want a free meal? On the reciept is buy one get one on next meal and your cell phone company will charge for it.

Very accommodating, I agree the staff is very hard working and nice. I agree that the food is much better than the one in Medford. And than the China buffet. I have an allergy to all milk products and they were very helpful. Great job to the staff.

Here's some advice. Don't go here on a Sunday. Website says they do breakfast until 11 but they don't even open until 11. Oh and they don't do lunch. They charge people for dinner all day. Which for two people is well over $30 and tiny drinks for $5.50. Which is bull shit because when we visited it wasn't even noon. We walked out because it is absolutely absurd to charge guests dinner prices before noon.

The food has been dropping in quality the last couple time that i have taken the family the meat loaf use to be really moist and flavorful. But now it just tests like TVP filler the signature items have also taken a turn down since they were started and since the stake was taken off the carving station i really don't have a reanon to go back for a while the only thing that i can say that has stayed the same is the customer service

Home town is always busy. Long line. The food is good. Desserts are yummy. The service is great. The last couple times I went, the plates were way to hot.

Well, Salem is an "all-you-can-eat-buffet" kind of town, proven by how busy HomeTown Buffet (Store 0309) is all-the-time! It is a favorite of my in-laws, so I get there about once a month. Last Sunday (08/03), we couldn't get in at 2:30 in the afternoon, it was so busy, with the line stretching out the door and down the arcade. Today, we got in, but it was touch and go, and the buffet was busy, busy, busy the entire time we were there. Really, Home Town Buffet is offering above average home-style fare for a fair price (two adults, all-you-can-eat for $11.99 each, plus $2.29 each for unlimited beverages) ... And you can't beat that value in Salem. Like everybody else, I have my favorites: The fried chicken is excellent (so much better than KFC or Popeyes), the salads are always fresh, the Carvery items (today it was roast beef, bone-in ham, roasted turkey breast, b-b-q riblets, but these entrees rotate) were hot and juicy. The Staff keep the trays filled to brimming, so I have found the food of very good quality. I have always found the service friendly, (Catherine, you did a great job!), if a little rushed, but, man alive, they are busy. And what is with all the kvetching about the "tiny" beverages? Yes, the tumblers are 12-ounces ... but you can refill them unlimited times. Unlimited. This includes six different sodas, chocolate milk, 2-percent milk, hot chocolate, iced tea, hot tea, lemonade, High C, regular and decaf coffee, cappuccino, orange juice, apple juice and several flavors of Slush Puppies.

Tried eating here again, staff still great, food and prices still need a lot of change. Prices are outlandish for normal elderly patrons, as we are in the mode of 1 plate serving, perhaps no desert, and a cup of coffee, or a glass of ice tea. Not worth the charges for that small amount of food. Guess all is focused on prices countering the over eaters and the wasteful. Won't be returning.

This was the second time my husband and I have gone. I thought the first time was bad but we had our grandsons on a holiday and thought they would like to choose whatever they wanted to eat and drink. $14 per person and they were like $7 each. Way too much for the kiddos eating a little mac and cheese and carrots and have an Icee. The food is horrible. Seems like there are not many selections. The best part is the desserts. They were good. It was sooo packed with people. Prices are too high for the quality of food you get.

HomeTown Buffet (Store 0309): Restrooms are always filthy. Last week the men's toilet was leaking water and looked like it had been for days. There is a saying, "If the restrooms aren't clean the restaurant is not clean."

Good food, correct turn over of food, friendly employee's, and lots to choose from. The steak is TO DIE FOR. Im pretty sure I had 5 servings, it was that wonderful. A word of advice though, if your looking for a night out with you and your special somebody DONT go on Thursday nights. Its kids night and its busier than chucky cheese in there, we were able to suffer through it but my anxiety was through the roof!

Possibly the worst food in the world. It is bland, starchy, unsalted nursing home food . . . cooked until it is all the same color, and then kept warm until it is all the same texture. The place even smells like a nursing home: like pee and sadness and un-managed diabetes and the nearness of death. Why even review Home Town Buffet? Everyone knows what it is, right? But not everyone does. What if you are from out of town and you are looking for a good buffet where you won't have to wait? You are a visitor, not sure where to eat dinner today but you don't want fast food. Well let me tell you: if you are reading this, if you are the kind of person that would even bother to look up a Yelp review to see what the place is like, you don't want to go here. But if you live in the area, you are coming here eventually whether you like it or not. And you will endure, just like you endure putting down a beloved pet, or you endure visiting a family member recovering from orthopedic surgery, because you have no choice. And when you come here, and you choke down slimy fried okra and salad dressing that is mostly vinegar, and pasty mashed potatoes with canned corn, and dried out chicken with too much breading, you make sure to tip those poor bastards well. Because they know how bad it is, and they see all these mobs of people every day waddling in here to hasten the clogging of their arteries with something that purports to be food but is really just a place holder for the life of fulfillment that they have already given up on, these customers. The bus boys and the waitstaff, they know: and just like the CNAs at the nursing home they keep coming to work and wiping your disgusting rumps with a smile on their faces and they are SO NICE and FOR GOD'S SAKE WHY IS THIS PLACE SO DAMN BUSY ALL THE TIME. Tip them well, because each day they look into the abyss of the existential emptiness that is our collapsing empire and they pretend it's not a living nightmare and they smile pleasantly.

The food was okay, and they seemed to keep everything stocked, and kept fresh things out, But the sitting areas were filthy. I grabbed a high chair for my child, and it was covered in sticky food, from top to bottom. The windows between sitting areas were filthy with hand prints and there was stickiness, or smears on the seats.

A friend of a friend directed me to this local Salem establishment. I was very impressed by what I found. They offer a wide selection of very tasty fare (mostly American, as the name would suggest). There are many delicious meat and vegetable options, all if which vastly exceeded my expectations considering the price paid. The spicy, perfectly seasoned sausage and awesome mashed potatoes were two of my favourite buffet items. The coconut cream pie was also very good. For the three of us I paid $33 for unlimited food and drink, which I found very reasonable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for the delicious fare at fair prices.

It's ok. This place is always busy so expect a crowd. The food is ok at best. I always find enough to fill me up, it's just generally not the best but it is a buffet. I have been here multiple times and nothing has stood out to me as being either great or bad. The only thing I don't like is the massive crowds but that must mean they are doing something right.

Every time I go it gets worse and worse. I go about once a year thinking maybe it'll be better. But it is not. Now it seems like they have even made the plates smaller.

My kids chose to eat here tonight... The good thing about this place is that you can eat whatever you want and as much as you want. The problem is that when you go to leave you are so stuffed you could really use a wheelchair to roll you out...lol The staff is friendly and attentive. Now I am home trying to be comfortable...

Sorry I tried it. Noon on a Sunday they consider dinner- so they can charge you $10.99 instead of $7.99 and extra for a tiny soda. The food was less than "sorta good" with salads, chicken dishes, taco fixins making up most of the choices. The kids were charged "adult price as they are no longer 11 years old. I wonder if these "adults" can vote, get married, etc. We were there 20 minutes before a staff member ever stopped by. The place also reeked of Suavatel- a cheap laundry rinse fancied by those from Mexico (we had a huge problem with that odor in the SouthWest). It is a very offensive pungent odor. I really am sorry I wasted my time or calories here- but I won't do it again.

On President's Day Eve, at 5:30 the restaurant was running out of things. I was told that they had a delivery truck scheduled for the next day. When I asked the manager, "Didn't you realize this would be a holiday?" He answered, "Yes, but we're running out of things!" A good manager would have gone to Costco and bought what he was missing, rather than disappoint his patrons. On top of that, most of the dessert dishes were dirty - there were great stacks of them - and it was hard to find a clean spoon. On top of THAT, there were no bus people in sight, so people in my section ended up stacking their dirty, used plates on an empty table, so that we didn't have to look at them any more. Overall experience: awful.

Was in Salem with my daughter yesterday and we decided to get an early dinner. She wanted to come here, so I figured what the heck. It was close to 5:30 p.m. and we had to pay for the dinner price. I hadn't eaten here in well over 5 years, and now I know why. I was taken aback that they now charge extra for drinks. Really? 4 ounce plastic tumblers and you charge me $2.50 for a drink?! This is ridiculous! I couldn't possible get $2.50 worth of beverage. The food was so-so. Definitely NOT worth $10. Most was fried, greasy fare. Even the deserts looked greasy (which surprisingly, they were.) After eating here I felt like I had a lead weight in my stomach with all the grease, and I didn't even get that much food; a little salad and a taco bowl. When I went to get my salad dish, the plate was almost too hot to pick up. Salad dishes should be kept cold, not piping hot. Conversely, the plates by the dinner foods were cold, chipped, and I had to pick through several to find one that wasn't cracked or chipped. The staff were mostly retired folks trying to earn a paycheck to augment their social security and the patrons were mostly large families with kids, or retirees making their dining dollars stretch. With all the choices of dining in Salem, I don't know why anyone would spend their money here. I know I will not be coming back.

Ribs we're all bone, steak was tough, selection of all food as main entrees was pathetic.. Quantity of selection and quality of food has definitely gone down every year!

What I will say for the place is that it's gotten way better over the years. It once was a place I wouldn't force a starving person to endure. But now, I actually like some things. Like the salad bar, fried shrimp, macaroni and cheese, and those buttery rolls. Unfortunately, that's about it. The rest of it is pretty shitty. And no matter how good the mac n' cheese might be, it's not worth fighting hundreds of old people and hundreds of famlies with 8 kids apiece running amok to get it. The place is always over-packed, which it the major deterrent for me. I dislike buffets for this reason.

Nicest staff we have met at a HomeTown buffet. Clean and the food was fresh.

The kids like to go here.....probably because they can pick what they want and eat all they want. Not bad food, but not the best. Nothing that sticks out really great. The salad bar was stocked full and fresh. That was a plus. Three stars is pushing it, but since the salad bar was good I went with it. ;-)

This is one of the cleanest I have been in and I really like that, when we go to this location it is on a Sunday morning for brunch. We will arrive about 10:30 to enjoy the end of breakfast ( I love the tater tot bars with cheese sauce ) then at 11am they start serving lunch and I can get fresh hot crispy fried chicken. Going at this time you get the best of both worlds but pay the cheaper price, unfortunately this is the busier time of day since most people are getting out of church and coming in for lunch.

I'm not always in the mood for Home Town Buffet. But occasionally its cool to come here with my parents. I like that when in a large group of people everyone gets what they want. They have yummy vanilla caramel mocha here which I always have for dessert. I like the desserts (Sugarfree & reg). None of their food is like BOMB, but overall its great, especially if you have a picky eater (My five year old son) he can get a lil of everything and be happy and everyone wins. Usually when I come other guests are polite and it is not over crowded. Lately and I don't find this place too chaotic.

Not as bad as it could be. Too many really old people mulling around. They tend to pass wind quite a bit. The protein items are there, and OK. I recall this place havig the biggest chicken drumsticls I have ever seen. Quite good, to. The entrees are closly monitored and replenished. A good place if you want chicken and are tired of KFC's garbage and Popeye's outragous prices.

After today's experience I will not be returning. Someone knocked tongs on the floor and an employee picked them up and put them back on the plate of cookies. Another employee was using their hands to help them self to a dessert. The food was not the proper temperature and I did not see anyone checking the food temps. Their highly promoted stir fry is pre made, so they just heat it up with a lot of soy sauce. Some of the food tasted off, there was a great lack of choices, and what there was was greasy. All I can say is yuck and what a waste of money. I also agree with others that is ridiculous to pay extra for a drink.

Alex said it all. I started going here when it was old country buffet. I dont go here a lot. Like 3x a year or less. The salad bar is fresh. It is better than Izzy's salad bar. The ice cream is pretty standard buffet ice cream that will melt in ten seconds. I always like their fried fish!

  • Jando S.

Whether its Old Country or Home Town or back to Old Country (such a corporate interchange), for less than $10 (no sales tax in OR), one can enjoy a decent buffet filled with a solid salad bar, hot food bar, and dessert line. Since its mostly self-serve, can't ask much of the waiters / waitresses who are just cleaning tables and collecting plates. The food isn't fantastic but it will satisfy anyone who wants an abundant amount of food for a reasonable price. The food is different but consistent each night with BBQ nights, Asian themes, Mexican fare, etc. The ambiance is limited, with booths and tables around a very spacious interior. Don't expect classy dining here, as most of the patrons are families with kids who leave their mark spaghetti stains, ice cream hand prints, and plenty of noise.

Don't know why I decided to eat here for the first time. I guess I was curious. I regret spending the money on such mediocrity. Nothing stood out as particularly enjoyable or flavorful. If I had to find the best part of the meal, I would have to stretch and say the soda. But think about that for a 1/2 second. If you can get the same soda anywhere, why get it here?
