Stopped in on my way back from Maryhill, I had the T-bone steak and so did the other two I was with. Great service and great food. Also the restrooms were clean. Good prices clean restaurant were a plus. I'll be back.

While spending a night in Rufus my friend and I had dinner and then breakfast at Bob's. We ate in the lounge and the service was just great both for dinner and at breakfast. The server saw us taking pictures of the dishes and offered to take a portrait of us with our food! I had the traditional bacon and eggs with hash browns and sourdough toast, and it was one of the best renditions that I have ever had. My friend had a half order of buiscuts and gravey with 2 eggs, and it was a filling meal. He prefers a more flaky than cakey buiscut, but was well satisfied nuntheless. The dinner was chicken fried steak with mashed taters and salad bar, and was as good as that combo gets. A night cap of bourbon was a generous pour. One tip the motel owner gave us was to ask the server what was good today, and it was good advice, I think! PS, the house made apple butter was wonderful!

Very disappointed. Top sirloin was grisly, not seasoned, and cold. frozen hash browns not cooked enough. Prime rib tasteless. Dinner roll was the worst I've ever had, dense, old, and yeasty tasting. Only good thing was calm chowder for $50.00 for 2 dinners. Will never go back.

The appetizer of onion rings were fried too long. I had a bacon cheeseburger and it was pretty good! Mom's clam strips were okay. Dad's top sirloin was well done and tough. His baked potato was good but the toppings were fake and ruined it. So stick with a burger and you'll be fine.

We were in town for two nights to do some fishing and because Bob's is basically the only eatery in Rufus (other than a diner down the road), we ended up eating here four times in 36 hours. As another reviewer noted, it's about what you'd expect: food that is dependable and filling, if not exactly exciting. Yes, the salad bar is once-through and no, it does not have tomatoes, but there are plenty of other choices there to fill your plate (and soup is included, too). I got the salmon steak the first night and it was fine - prepared very basically and without flair. My wife enjoyed her burger but my father-in-law was less impressed with the prime rib. Our second night, I ordered the 8 oz. sirloin and added sauteed mushrooms (well worth the nominal expense). The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and was nicely seasoned. The baked potato on the side was good. This time my FIL was impressed with the T-bone, but my wife did not care for her butterflied shrimp; they tasted like they had been dropped into the fryer before the oil was heated enough, and she wished they had been served with cocktail sauce instead of the vaguely yellow tartar sauce that accompanied them. One thing that was notably lacking: vegetables. They weren't anywhere to be found on the menu - a shame for those hoping for more than just a starchy side. Service both evenings was slow (once in the lounge, the other time in the restaurant) despite a lack of patrons. Luckily, we were not in a hurry. Breakfast was more consistent. I had a ham and cheese omelette the first morning (three eggs are standard but you can ask for two, as I did); the eggs were light and fluffy, and there was a good ratio of meat and cheese inside. Breakfasts come with hash browns and toast or biscuit. My dining companions raved over their poached eggs and thick-cut smoked bacon. The second day I ordered ham and (over medium) eggs; these were slightly overcooked, but the ham was thick, tender, and had a nice hint of sweetness (possibly a honey glaze). The coffee is hot and fresh, served in an insulated carafe and poured by your server. Unlike at dinnertime, service both mornings was quick and efficient. Don't go hoping to be blown away, but you won't be disappointed, either. Bob's may be the only game in town, but they'll satisfy your hunger without putting too badly a dent in your wallet.

I'm voting 5 stars not because of stellar food so much, but for the convenience, attitude, and just "roadside comfort" of Bob's. The food actually is excellent - think Truck Stop comfort food. If it weren't good, they'd be gone ages ago like so many other cafes along Highway 84. I stop here every time I pass this way - it's nicely located midway between Portland and the Tri-Cities on 84 - makes for a great coffee/food/pitstop along the way. The service is ALWAYS friendly - I am always in business clothes, but they don't treat me like a "city slicker" like a lot of fairly rural places would. They treat me like a local, every time. Fast, friendly, "what would you like, hun?" service. I've never had a meal here I didn't like.... So if you're reading this, flying down I-84 Eastbound or Westbound, take the time to pull off and take a break. You really will enjoy your time and food here as I have for years. And if you happen to see a copy of "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy" sitting on the counter, well it's mine - left it there by mistake today but I was already in Kennewick before I noticed it gone.... maybe it'll stay there and be passed around!! Great book, left in a great "roadside attraction" restaurant that i'll keep eating at as long as it's there. Dave

Pretty much what I expected. We were traveling from Glacier Park back to Oregon and staying at the Deschutes Recreational State Park for the night. It is a truck stop, combined with a bar. This was pretty much the only place in the area that was open on the 4th of July. Do not come here with high expectations as you will be disappointed. After camping for a week, it was good to just finally have someone else cook for us. As for the person who thought the codoms in the bathroom was a bad thing...get over yourself! You apparently are a republican and don't believe in a thing called "planned parenthood".

This place was unbelievable. The first thing we noticed was the big sign that said a glass of water costs $1.50. Then we found out that all salad bar choices (there are two sizes) were ONCE-THRU only. While we waited for our food, I visited the restroom and discovered a prominently displayed condom machine. My wife confirmed the women's restroom had one, too. NOT family friendly, not customer friendly. The food was OK but by the time it arrived we had already wished we hadn't stopped here. Sadly, we drove less than 10 miles after we left before we found a nest of restaurants in the next town. Lesson learned.

There is only two places to eat in Rufus and I are at this one, but I recommend the other one. Went in for dinner, had sirloin steak, salad bar, rolls and baked potato. The steak had no seasoning...the waitress advised after the fact that if you want seasoning...you need to ask for it. Have you ever seen a salad bar that did not include tomatoes...well, this one did not. And even worse were the rolls and the baked potato. The rolls could have been used as hockey pucks...they had been left in a warming drawer way past their prime and the potato had been in there with them I guess....it could only be identified as a potato by the skin on the outside. Take my advice...eat somewhere else...but if you must...only order items that must be cooked fresh. My husband was going to order the prime rib because it was on special...the waitress did advise him it would be a reheat therefore would not be able to be cooked rare...who has ever heard of that...why call it prime rib then....they got the two stars because we were forewarned.

We love stopping at Bob's on our way from Helena Montana down to Shasta every summer. Our halfway point for the road trip is usually either Boardman or Biggs and the Tbone is a great place to have a typical roadside cafe breakfast. We look forward to the friendly, familiar service (no formality here) and the heart-attack breakfasts. They even have a rooster crowing outside the restroom (its outside the building too-- grin) Best of all is the tacky art all over the walls. You can get the unicorn dancing in the surf in at least 4 different sizes. Or you might prefer the white wolf mama and cub. ;-) Its a no-nonsense roadside cafe we can always count on. Oh, and for the person who took offense at the condom machines in the restrooms-- get real. Condoms save lives. They ARE family friendly.

We stopped in this town for gas on our motorcycle trip and went in here for breakfast. The waitress was very nice and welcoming. The Lions club was meeting there and one other couple was there. The service isnt speedy but we were on vacation so we didnt care, and it wasnt too slow. I had smoked pork chops that were fantastic, my wife had biscuits and gravy that she said was pretty good. It was a good place to eat, interesting artwork and books to look at by a local author, big portions, good coffee, glad we stopped. To another of the posters on here, being Republican has nothing to do with being for or against planned parenthood, that would be a personal decision, gross generalizations are usually off base and shouldnt be used in todays world, but I do agree a condom machine comment is someone just looking for something to complain about.

Middle of nowhere, old-school steak house. Ribeye medium rare sautéed mushrooms, skip the wine here, beer and liquor are the best choices Great atmosphere in the lounge A must stop on i84 in Rufus!
