Found this place when my mom moved to Roseburg. Absolutely love it, the decor, the smell, everything. Brings me back to my Mamaw's place and cooking (she was from Sicily). The food has always been excellent. Service is just a tad slow sometimes but since the bread & drinks are brought out first who cares. I prefer to sit around talking, let the bread settle and enjoy the smells while working the appetite back up. Dino is great. On multiple occasions he's brought out complementary shots of lemony & licorice liquors. Absolutely love the place. Hopefully no investors buy the building and rent increase them out of business as I've heard happened with the Mark IV grill around the block. Off subject but some land owners are real idiots. They'd rather have a place sit vacant at $3.00 a square foot than have a great place that people love at $1.00 a square foot that draws a crowd to the general area.

We had high expectations for having dinner at Dino's and it started out well. However, once we order our food it took 55 minutes to get our food and that was only after I complained that it was taking far too long! We had the mussels and clams brodetto and lasagna, the lasagna was warm on one side and cool on the other end and my brodetto tasted good but I had several mussels that did not open, not the proper way to serve mussels! They gave me $3.00 off of my bill, wow! Try at your own risk!

We went to their "Spaghetti and Blues" night. There were only a handful of people there, mostly people who clearly knew the band members. The band leader had too much wine and spent more time talking than performing. I think the wine was telling him he was being entertaining. He wasn't. It took Dino an hour to get our order of spaghetti to us, and as I said there were only a few customers. When it arrived, it was just ordinary; not at all worth the wait. Altogether a bummer of an evening. Check out our blog "Rose's Cafe" at: rosescafe1.blogspot.com

Love Dino's! We stop here on our way south a couple times a year and always enjoy the great food, warm atmosphere and displayed wine selection. Veal Marsala was perfect! Dino is there every time and helps us pick a wine we'll like by giving us tastes and vineyard background info. Italiano athentico, go to Dino's, ciao!

Sounds like the poor review from Andrew F comes with some psychological baggage as he also was kind enough to also post a picture of his dirty nails and middle finger. I'm guessing Andrew is the issue here, not Dino's. On to the review. Dino's is kind of a hole in the wall, a great little comfortable and romantic restaurant with exceptional food and service. I was very happy with my spaghetti bolognese. It was excellent. I have tried the veal and lasagne as well and everything they serve is fresh and superb. Expect to pay about $16 to $18 per person on average. This is high quality food and worth it. We are not talking mass produced quick and easy food here. You could easily go to Applebee's and spend the same amount....except you would get a burger and fries. Excellent food, service, and the price is very good for the delicious food.

It was overpriced and mediocre for what you got. The service was extremely slow. A major let down as far as Italian fair goes I wouldn't go back just a major let down beware stay away bad juju!!!

Small and quiet, plan on a leisurely dinner, no hurry here. The bread was authentic Italian bread served warm right out of the oven! Freshest salads we have had in a very long time, husband had the Caesar, I had the insalata with feta, olives, tomato, cucumber, served with a mild vinaigrette that didn't make you pucker. Husband had chicken and ricotta ravioli with Alfredo, it was excellent! I had the bolognese, it was wonderful! Service was prompt and friendly. Don't miss this one if you are in town!

This place is amazing. Very good caprese, homemade bread, and an interesting, refreshing melon soup. The house made ravioli's were some of the best I've had. It's a family owned place, and is extremely friendly.

Superstar restaurant for the town of Roseburg! My husband had the lasagne - cheesy with a homemade tomato sauce full of flavor (not just a basic bland red tomato sauce). I had a chicken special that was equally flavorful and cooked perfectly. The wine list is phenomenal and apparently is unappreciated by most guests. The staff is very friendly. We will definitely be returning!

This place is a hidden gem. Great spaghetti on Monday evenings. It's Roseburg, Oregon and options are fairly limited. Music can be a little loud so book ahead and ask for sitting in the back. Too many complaints on here about service, I like that it adds a bit to the ambience. When I go out for a nice meal I like to enjoy my company and take my time. Great service. Great food. Great wine. Others are just in too much of a hurry & want everything now! now! now! Update: Went here on a hot summer night visiting family in early July, and we tried some new items and of course excellent! Chilled Pea Soup and the Ravioli (type they have rotate) so darn good! People complain about price, you truly get what you pay for, if you want fast, crappy and prob cold Italian, go up I-5 to Eugene to the Olive Garden (Valley River Exit). Service may be on the slow side, but they MAKE everything here. Quality folks, quality.

Two words. Eat here!! Walked it at near closing. Very accommodating and patient. Food was incredible. Great ambiance in what was once a grocery store. Brick arches were for shoppers to line up for check out. Thanks to Steven and Debbie for sharing. Best carbonara ever!! And I've had it in Italy. Tuscan bean soup was yummy. Wonderful rustic fresh bread. We'll be back. -California girls.

Ordered the spinach lemon salad as recommended in another review. It was served very hot, not warm as stated in the menu. It was ok, too lemony. Had the veal scallopine. It was ok, Very sweet. Strawberry pannacotta for dessert was wonderful. Service was stellar.

Nice atmosphere, service was friendly but a little slower then the relaxed place I like. The Osso Bucco was excellent as was the size of the helping at a reasonable price.

I was alone and probably got there too late for good attention. I ordered and wasn't checked on until served. The menu was a bit pricey and I was surprised at the small serving of one of the evening specials.

I was driving south on Memorial Day weekend and began to feel hungry. My road trip companion and I decided to stop in Roseburg for dinner and researched places to eat. Dino's had an average of 4 stars on Yelp and the reviews, while mixed, appeared good enough to take a chance. A gamble I would soon regret. My visit occurred on Friday, May 23. I was greeted by a very cheerful woman who was very sweet. She visited our table several times during the meal to ensure we were okay. I don't recall her name but she said she is soon to be opening her own American restaurant in Roseburg. My server was the infamous "Ponytail Guy" that is mentioned in most reviews. While I found him to be friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, he did an unforgivable sin. I ordered a bottle of wine and he stated it was excellent. He then returned with a different bottle of wine, already opened, and said he thought I would enjoy this wine more. He didn't give me the option of changing my mind, he changed it for me and had it already opened. I have never experienced this before in my life. Weird! Here is what we ordered and our thoughts: 1) Spinach Salad. It was very tasty and had the right amount of lemon. What was surprising was that it was a warm spinach salad, as the menu did not specify this. I prefer warm spinach salads. 2) Gorgonzola Gnocchi. It was extremely chewy. The sauce was bland to the point of being nearly flavorless. The plating was boring as well. It was all just... cream colored. I would avoid this dish at all costs. 3) Smoked Salmon Ravioli. It tasted like Lox Cream Cheese inside a black ravioli. It was weird, to say the least, and tasted very cheap. Another dish to avoid. The decor is extremely dated. There is an out of place stage set up near the entrance with a band set up (drums and the like). In the back of the dining room are two large, bright, refrigerators that greatly cheapen the ambiance. All-in-all it was a pretty awful experience from service to ambiance to food.

Excellent Italian food. I had the veal which was wonderful. Went with a group of 6. Wait time was average and Dino was quite the character and added to the experience. Food =A. Service=A-. Prices=B+. For Roseburg comparable dining=A+

This is a fine "ristorante". Dino's is open for Dinner and I believe they have a lunch menu on certain days, but usually they are open after 5pm. They offer a wide variety of wine and a smaller limited selection of beer. Their food top-notch and worth the price. I would suggest the lasagna because its is massive and priced lower than other dinner items. Their spaghetti is incredible quit good also and priced lower than the lasagna, but it's smaller too.

No Prosecco in an Italian restaurant/ wine bar is nearly unforgivable but the gorgonzola gnocchi made up for it! Great recovery Gino's.

We've been stopping in Roseburg over the last couple of years as it is half way between home and our son in Washington. This restaurant has been in my sights for a while and I decided tonight was the night. I looked up the web site and it says they are closed on Mondays. Dissapointed, I chose a pub down the street and when we got there it was closed. I spotted Dino's with cars out front and the open sign out so we ended up here anyway! When I mentioned their web site to Dino, he stated that they have been open on Mondays for the last couple of years. They were on the tail end of a rush so even by their standards they were slow to serve. We did get water and crusty sourdough bread right away after the table was set and we ordered not long after, I ordered a bottle of Chianti Classico Petroio for both my wife and I. She had spaghetti with marinara sauce and I had veal scallopini. We both had a salad with homemade ranch dressing. We got the salads fairly quickly and they were very good. My wife is allergic to red onions and they were careful not to contaminate her salad when it was made. The wine came along a little later and then the wait for the main dishes. My wife's spaghetti had a sweet marinara sauce that I liked, but she thought it was too sweet. My veal came with candied carrots and some kind of rice? on sun dried tomatoes. I'm pretty much a white rice eater so I couldn;t say for sure what that was, but I do know it was very good. She had Umqua spumoni ice cream for dessert and I had a pineapple ricotta torte. Again both were tasty. We each received a free small glass of lemoncello for our patience as a final treat. The service was friendly and the food was great. This place will be in our future visits.

We love Italian food and this was a great place. Delicious food, excellent service and even a little piano music. I don't know if we'll ever be back (we were just driving through on our way home to California), but if we do we'll definitely stop at Dino's again.

My wife and I went there for dinner last night and loved it. The first course Tuscan tomato soup was excellent. Main courses of gnocchi and ravioli were both made in house and superb. Tirimisu for dessert topped things off. Prices are comparable to Brix down the street. Go there.

Great time here tonight, we were lucky to get a table as they were booked. The spinach and lemon salad was excellent as was the veal. They made us some steamed clams and they were the best, lots of lemon and garlic. We finished with carrot cake and just had the best time. Tina was the perfect wait person and gave us excellent service. Loved it!!

A wonderful find on our vacation. My husband had the veal scallopine and I had the chicken florentine. Delicious from our caesar salad, which we shared because it was so generous, to the delicious teramaisu desert. Our waitress let us know about the large salad when we ordered. She also was very informative about community activities. Great food and excellent service is why we will make this a regular stop on our next trip.

I've been eating here since moving to Roseburg five years ago. I would eat here a few times a month if the service wasn't so slow. If it was slow because it was so busy and/or understaffed, and waiters were bustling the amazing dishes around, that would be one thing. Unfortunately, for the last couple of years the waiter has gone from friendly and attentive to friendly and forgetful and uninterested in prompt service. Make no mistake about it, the food is made fresh, with love, and I have never been disappointed by anything I have ordered. It's a real treat and reminds me of my visit to Italy, only with better pasta. Really. The wine list is great too. Each time I go there I sit and wait for 15+ minutes for something; the salad, the check, the credit card receipt, or all three. And every time, I sit and grin and bear it, because I love good Italian food. Last night was almost unforgivable. Almost, though I'll be drawn back. We arrived around 5:45 on a Friday night and there was only one table occupied. The young man who always waits on us explained that we could sit anywhere except for the two table by the windows, they were reserved. No problem. Here's the problem. We placed our order of wine, Ceasar salad, a cheese appetizer from the menu of Specials and our pasta entrees within about five minutes of sitting down. Some 10 minutes later the two reserved tables had been filled and the people in them took priority over us, apparently. While I didn't time it, I would guess that we sat eating the bread, sipping the wine, got a refill on bread and finished the wine for a good 20 minutes, at least, I'm being generous here. The two tables with reservations who arrived a good bit later than us had not only received their salads, but they had finished them and had their plates cleared while we were still waiting for ours. We started wondering what the hold-up was and the waiter and his helper (very nice man) were standing towards the back looking onto the dining room and appeared to be taking a bit of a rest. I gave it about five minutes before I walked over to ask how long our salads or appetizer would take. The waiter looked surprised and said let, "Let me check" as he darted for the kitchen. The waiter's help (I don't know what else to call him) was very genuine and apologized. I headed back to my table, the waiter returned to say the salads would only take one minute, but he never apologized. It really spoiled what would have tasted even better if not for that experience. In his defense, he brought a complimentary tiramisu because he "messed up" with the salads. No genuine apology, though a nice gesture. But really, if he would just pay a little attention and hit his tables in a timely manner after each "step" in the service process that would be so much better than a free dessert after a huge meal and wine. While this was the worst experience in bad service there in the last couple years, something like this happens every single time. Sadly, I recommended Dino's to two coworkers for Mother's Day. They both said they sat too long to want to go back and one missed their movie date because it took so long. In the end they sat and waited for the check for 15ish minutes after the last plate was cleared. Darn that friendly-enough but thoughtless waiter!! It will be months before I go back, and I really love the food, wine and atmosphere.

Fabulous Treasure in Roseburg on 404 SE Jackson Street. We were in Roseburg for business over the July 4th weekend, (2012). The big question, what to do for a decent dinner? We didn't know the area. We refused to settle for one of those fast-food restaurants or anything else just to fill our tummies. We wanted "special" and if possible "quiet"--meaning no loud large family type diner, all you can eat, stuff it in, then waddle out type attraction. Oh, we found a treasure that we can't believe was open. We are still thankful and highly recommend supporting this locally owned Italian restaurant. This restaurant was a fabulous find. It was quiet, inhabited by just a couple of other diners; we still remember the nice setting, quiet ambience and very friendly waiter (who just happened to be their son.) We had a very leisurely dinner, great food, and their prices were incredibly decent. We ordered the Clams & Mussels Brodetto $15 and the Spinachi lemone $10, (Spinach Salad) plus white wine. We split the two plates of food. I'm a huge seafood lover and this would be the first time that I would have a hard time deciding what I liked better. My husband was shocked. Their sautéed spinach salad melted in my mouth! It made me a fan of spinach and I vowed from that night forward to get more in my diet. Such a simple dinner, but if it's not done with the freshest ingredients and with an Italian Cook that knows what's she's doing it's just not the same. I've tried making it several times since and it's just been "okay." Then for dessert we ordered the Tiramisu, $8 and the waiter gave us a sample of Limoncello liquor. Oh, yum! Sinful and delicious. This capped off this wonderful experience beautifully. We closed the restaurant and the Cook (Mrs. Dino) thanked us at our table. We still have good memories and hope to visit again some day.

Great service. The waiter could go in depth about any dish and was great at recommending items to us. Great wine selection. They have an entire wall with shelves full of different wines from around the globe. All the food was very good (and fresh!) and they have a specialty menu in addition to their regular offerings. Our meal started with some fresh garlic infused bread and I got the insalata caprese (tomato + mozzarella + basil) to start, which were both delicious. For the main course, I got the maple glazed salmon, which was cooked and seasoned to perfection. I was a little perplexed, though, by the decor which did not necessarily match the image of the overall restaurant. It seems like in creating the restuarant, so much thought went into the menu and presentation of the meal that the ambience of the surroundings was an afterthought. With all that said, I would come back to this place because the flavors of the food and overall experience were very enjoyable.

We chanced upon this wonderful restaurant by accident on our trip from Vancouver to Palm Desert. What a gem, we had an awesome meal with a great bottle of Chianti. We had the Cesar salad to start, very fresh and tasty, the veal scaloppine for our main course. This is an one of my favourites and I order it often in fine Italian restaurants and this rates as one of the best I have had. It was served with a butternut squash risotto that was delicious . Cudos to the owners of this restaurant for their fine food. We will definitely make it back to this restaurant whenever we are through.

This place is a ten star, yea the best Italian I have ever ever had, I am coming back. This was the real deal, homemade food, Yes I waited a little long but when the food arrived WOW does not even describe it. Outstanding service the waiter talked to us about the cook and told us how she studied in Italy. This is not the pizza and spaghetti Italian this is the real stuff. I had Gnocchi con Gorgonzola and a taste of the Gnocchi alla Sorrentina nothing like it any place hand made that day. And the price was only $16 this was colser to a $30 meal.... Tiramisu was out of the world, the best. Can I give it ten stars. Wish I was saying a little long I would eat here every night.

Still learning our way around Roseburg, we notice there are not many upscale, individualistic , smaller restaurants in town. Dino's is a gem among the overly noisy, box chain restaurants in town. The romantic ambiance and subtle Italian decor made us feel very welcome. Even at 8 p. m. the restaurant was full all for one table that was "just right." The waiter was professionally proficient and quick. This is a pleasant family friendly restaurant as we saw whole families enjoying a later than average dinner. Our meal came without any delay. Mr. Picky enjoyed the clams, I had the caprese salad, while Little Miss Picky loved her lasagna. All of us remarked to each other during the meal that we were so pleased that we decided to try Dino's instead of going to Appleby's. We are thrilled that there is a noise-free, delightfully relaxing restaurant in Roseburg. We will be returning again and again. Five Stars and A+ from The Picky Family who are really hard to please !

A very odd duck of a restaurant, the food is VERY good, the decor is somewhat confusing, lots of bottles of wine along with some other very random stuff...like they don't know if they want to be a wine store or an Italian restaurant or a garage sale. Oh, and our pretentious waiter/wine steward was over the top...had the perfectly coiffed pony tale and all dressed in black but I couldn't help feeling he was waiting for Hollywood to discover him or something. Or maybe he belonged to Over-actors Anonymous. Found out later it's the owner's youngest son...that explains everything. Regardless, the food was very good, but plan on staying a while. We went in with our two kids and not planning on a 2 hour dinner, so ended up taking our entrees to go. Good coffee too!

As many have said in other reviews, be prepared to take your time. If I have 2 hours to spend enjoying myself, relaxing this is where I usually end up. The owner Dino will most likely come over to greet you with open arms, a bottle of wine, & a big smile. I always make it a point to say hello to the cook (Dino's wife), & see what she has going on in the kitchen. We will move around freely in the restaurant at times, sometimes sitting on the sofa, maybe outside for a bit to enjoy the weather if it is nice, or at our table. There is no rush, the wine is always nearby, the appetizers are delicious as well as interesting, & there is never a dull moment with Dino around. What more can I say, I love this place. Who wouldn't?!

The rating is tricky. The food was great. Even though my prawns frozen not fresh, they were incredibly well seasoned and excellently cooked. The tomato cream sauce I had with my pasta was fabulous. My husband enjoyed his veal very much. The prices are approriate. The main challenge was the length of time it took to get the meal. I understand the philosophy of the leisurely meal. Our problem was we didn't know that was the plan as this was the first time we'd been there. While the bread served was fantastic--and I'm a bread snob--I expect in that length time between ordering and the entree to be served salad and/or soup. We, too, had the pretentious, pony-tailed waiter. He was quite professional, but my husband found him to be snooty. Now that I know it takes that long for the meal to be served and that its the philosophy behind the restaurant, I would go back again should the timing be appropriate. I'm not sure I can convince my husband to go back though unless there was salad and/or soup involved. I'd rather pay another $5 per plate for there to be additional courses than wait an hour to eat.

Great dinner tonite! We shared the lasagna and I had the sun dried tomato and artichoke soup. Both were.very good. Our waiter (with a pony tail) did a good job and the decor was eclectic not poor. The owner came out to visit, not everywhere does that happen!

  • Deb A.

If it weren't for great food, I would give Dino's one star. The service is horrendous and will keep me from going back to this restaurant. Take out may be an option if ordered way in advance. While on a business trip, I dined at Dino's and waited over an hour for dinner when there were only 2 other tables being served. No salad or soup with the dinner... only bread and butter while I waited. I could have eaten my napkin. This is unacceptable service!

  • Litahni H.

This place is really wierd when you first walk in; it definitely needs a makeover because it's kind of dark and dingy and the decor is hodge-podge, but then the food comes out. Great food, fresh ingredients. If you are there on a day when they are serving the potato and leek soup, get it, you won't regret it. Great serving sizes that fill you up but leave room for desert.

We always look forward to stopping in Roseburg on our trips North. Dino's is our favorite spot to eat. The food and charming atmosphere are wonderful and we feel like we have found a little bit of Italy after a long day of road travel. You will not be disappointed!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
