Charley's. Is. So. Good. I swear, if I could, I'd build onto the building and have my own room in the back so I could just smell the food all day, and eat it every time my stomach made room. The pulled pork sandwiches I had were seriously so good I would have made myself sick if I had money to buy more. The fries were excellent and the portions were good as well. They have some outstanding sauces, and I couldn't ever choose one exclusively for my meal. If you want a good meal at a good price, or if you just like BBQ flavored things, do not go anywhere else. Charley's is beyond outstanding and there aren't enough words to describe the tastiness.

We had heard great things about Charly's so we stopped in one day for lunch. The pulled pork sandwich was a-ma-zing. With so many sauces to choose from I had a different flavor with every bite. I thought the original was the best. The salad dressing, garlic vinegarette, was really good. I was a little skeptical but like trying new things. My boyfriend had the brisket and shared his sweet potato tots with me. They were fabulous. I was so thrilled when they came out and brought us spicy pickles. They also made an extra pulled pork sandwich and offered it to us rather than throwing it away. Great service and friendly staff. Awesom!. I'm so glad it's just down the street. We'll be heading that way on a Thursday for some live music.

Excellent dinner, the ribs, slaw, baked beans, fritters, even the roll. Super nice people, clean...I have been looking for a great place to eat in Roseburg, and this is definitely it!!

Went to Roseburg specifically for a Disc Golf vacation for my birthday. Food was 2nd fiddle. This place surprised me a lot. When you hear about a BBQ place that specializes in so many different sauces (over 10 I believe), if you're a BBQ fan like myself you might.think, "Oh S**t here we go again, yet another BBQ joint baking/grilling their meat and smothering it in sauce and callling it 'BBQ' ". Thats not case hear at all, they market their BBQ as true, non-electric, smokes BBQ; and it was! We had the pulled pork, brisket and the spareribs. I'd rank it as listed from top to bottom. Only complaint (if you'd call it one), the spareribs were a little tough and didn't have that 'fall off the bone' quality that I prefer. Overall.great BBQ especially for a small town such as this one!

One of the BEST BBQ restaurants I have EVER been to! I just don't understand why this place isn't packed all of the time! My aunt occasionally goes to Roseberg for business, and when we were going to Winston to go to the Wildlife Safari, she insisted that we ate here. The service was so wonderful and the food, ugh, no don't get me started! It is so delicious and the BBQ is so authentic. I absolutely love the brisket and if you get it with a side of fries, you will be in heaven! The coolest part about this place is that they have a selection of different BBQ sauces! You get to dress your meal with whatever taste you are craving. Whether it's with a sweet honey BBQ, or even a spicy Korean BBQ sauce they all taste so great! Plus, while you eat they are always playing classic 80s music and it just makes you feel so happy (unless you hate 80s music then I would recommend just watching whatever is on the TV). I wish so much that this business would come to Portland so I could eat there all the time. You seriously do not want to miss out on this delicious BBQ!

So happy to have made this choice. The pulled pork was amazingly moist and flavorful. The tri tip perfectly smokey. Delicious sides (honest ambrosia). Mostly though the people here are welcoming, warm and make this a stop every time you're near.

This was really bad. They charged over a lot for extras it was Luke warm, and tasted like they loaded the guac with salt ! Would not recommend

We went to Charlie's on a road trip where we were determined to stay away from chain restaurants. We read the previous reviews and were a bit nervous. The service is home town, not treated as a stranger but as a friend. We only tried four of the BBQ sauces but was not disappointed in any of them. Will definitely stop a again. If you are traveling through Roseburg, Oregon, I would recommend you stop by and enjoy a home smoked BBQ. My wife had the Brisket Sandwich and I had the ribs. Both outstanding.

Amazing food!! Great menu for sitting down and eating and for taking it to go. We have ordered pulled pork, ribs, and baked beans for several get togethers with friends. We have never been disappointed.

Who would have thought I'd find awesome ribs in the town of Roseberg Oregon? Well I did! Charlie's is a small restaurant just off the highway. Small in size but big on customer service and good food. I had the baby back ribs. They were meaty, smokey and tender. The side of baked beans were delicious. The pulled chicken sandwich was ordered by 4 members of my party. And they devoured them before I could sample. They were unanimous in their approval The pulled pork was delicious, especially when sandwiched between the sweet rolls they serve. The hush puppies were crisp on the outside and moist and flavorful on the inside. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the French fries. The fries had a rich potato taste and were cooked to perfection. I have no idea if they served desert. I was to stuffed to contemplate it. All in all a satisfying and filling experience.

Made a quick stop here for lunch. It smelled AWESOME. There is a tower of sauce on the counter when you walk in - sooo many choices. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The brisket was delish. One plate was plenty to share. The one thing I missed was a mac and cheese side - can't have BBQ w/o mac and cheese!

Wow, wow, wow!! This place is very family friendly. The meat is AMAZING. They have homemade fries. The owners treated us like family. Our daughter ordered the slides beef. They got busy and forgot to bring that with our dinner, and when we told them, the gave her an extra slice of meat. The Decor is fitting.....and the space was very well kept. Thanks again for making us feel so welcomed and like one of the family!! The family from Bremerton.

Great small BBQ place! Heading home to Portland and my son wanted BBQ so I checked Yelp and this had great reviews! And I agree would defiantly recommend. A+

Danielle, was amazing once again. Every customer that came in for lunch was greeted with a smile. As my group was about to leave she brought over a taste of whipped cheese cake that she had made. It was very good with a topping of cherries to go with. I had the tri-tip sandwich and the meat was tender, you could taste the smoke in every bit.

  • Chris C.

Very good tri tip sandwich, but could have used more meat for the price. Love the BBQ sauce!

  • Tasha O.

Hubby and I went in for a treat. We both got the tri tip sandwich and fries. Delicious! Ours was fresh out of the smoker and a beautiful, juicy pink. They have several different bbq sauces you can put on them. I had a sweet one, it was very good. The fries were fresh and just the right crispness and the fry sauce....holy crap, it was the best I've ever had! The gentleman who served us was very friendly and smiled a lot. I will be going back! Definitely worth a stop if you're in town.

Just had their pulled pork sandwich and baked beans and yum!!! So good. Quiet little place just off I-5. Clean, good food, good price. I liked it a lot. Thanks, Yelpers, for helping me find this place.

Not the best BBQ I've ever had, but certainly not the worst. We had between us brisket and pork. Neither one was particularly tender, but it was at least moist and flavorful. The selection of sauces was nice too. I will say that my experience is a bit biased -- we came in very late; just about 15-20 minutes or so before they closed. We were so very thrilled that there was even anything open at this hour. I mean, this is Roseburg, so we expect them to roll up the sidewalks after sundown. Perhaps the BBQ might've been a little better and not so end-of-the-day tasting had we gone earlier in the day. Nonetheless, we were glad we didn't have to eat McDonald's before heading back out on the road.

  • Laura H.

I had the brisket and it was very tender and flavorful. I love that they have all their sauces on the counter so you can try them all and decide on a favorite. I would definitely recommend this place.

I had to try this place since I have lived here 9 years and never stopped in. Well I did and maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I even asked the counter person what was good/famous. No reply. Maybe she was new but she was very nice and cute too. So that got her off the hook lol. So I just ordered the daily special. A BBQ pork sandwich for $7.50. Got it home. Small on a plain bun. No sauce or anything. Dry as a bone. The meat was ok but this was just ridiculous. They never offered in toppings or sauce or anything. Maybe because I got it to go... A large family next to me seemed to be grubbing into ribs. Which were so delicious they were just choking down and not even talking lol. So I will try something different next time.

The brisket is amazing as well as the pulled pork. Be sure to try the "Kim's Up a Notch" BBQ sauce.

I know I shouldn't have ordered a burrito at a BBQ joint.... but it had BBQ inside it!!, It was so good and a big burrito.

I appreciate the new owners cleaning up the place BUT don't MESS with consistency! The last several times (not kidding there) they have been out of at least one thing that I have requested and I get the SAME thing every time. I always get 1/4 chicken white, baked beans, coleslaw (I used to get this but it's HORRIBLE now!) and corn fritters. They have discontinued this big seller (Stupid!) and you can't order it now. They have been out of CHICKEN! Baked Beans!??!! WTH!!?! YOU ARE A BBQ place! You can't be out of chicken at 12:30 pm. I have stopped going and I'm very sad about it. I LOVED them and was a regular customer.

When I first went to Texas and got hauled to a couple of the great bbqs there, I was at first so surprised at how unassuming they would look. Charley's is the same type of place. Unless you are watching for it, it'll slip on by ya as you drive up to it. Once in, it looks like what it is, at least I'm guessing, a converted residence. There's a saddle sort of roped up to the top of the slope pitched ceiling, with other cowboy doo dads scattered about. We were there on a quiet early evening, which if you are going to eat here, plan accordingly or you may find yourself too late. This place shutters early during the week. There are signs regarding the entertainment that comes on the weekends, tempting you to find some reason to come back because it sounds like a swell party that Charley hosts on these occations. Charley, however, respects Labor Day and stays closed, as all businesses should if they can get away with it. This is very much his show, he's a good host but he does have his limits, it seems. And he was working the order taking that evening, just sort of leaning on the counter and answering all of my lame questions in such an unassuming way. I had the brisket, which most times will be abused and dried out meat, but here it was moist, with a great smoke ring that comes with sllloooowww cooking. SO got a half rack of baby pork ribs with meat just waiting for his lips to touch it and as by magic, only then, releasing itself from the bones. All dinners come with a couple of sides that were quite good and the total of the meal left us bloated and wasted in such a delightful way. You will not, as we sort of thought might happen, come up hungry after these meals. You will spend a little money for all of this, and it is well spent. One would be hard pressed to buy fine ingredients for this amount of money, much less create the magic that happens in this man's smoker and kitchen As he sat down our dinners he pointed out all of the squeeze bottles of sauces, only some of which I wrote down: Spicy mustard, Kansas City, smoky, regular, apricot, mandern, raspberry chipotle, north Carolina vinegar... He told us in his unassuming way to "go play with 'em", which we did. His meats are spice rubbed and smoked, and they are fine eating without adding sauce at all. But the sauces are fun to play with as you please, and you will find yourself playing with all the squirt bottles, I'll bet. I won't reveal our favorites, because it is fun to try them all, and go back and forth trying them and seeing which one is best. I should think that this problem could be worked out with enough time...a few years, at least. Do not wear white. Wear comfy clothes. Wash your hands before you leave or you will most likely stick to your steering wheel. Or get run over by your dog when you get home. Or all of the above. Recommended. Completely.

Check the special board for smoked pastrami sammie. Order up w/ side of your choice (go beans!) and a local Draper IPA. Sit down and have a few minutes to prep yourself for some tasty goodness while appreciating your fine beverage. Top sammie with your choice of house sauce and enjoy. You need to find this place!

Um this was one of the best BBQ places since Oklahoma joes in Kc Missouri. The place is simple on the outside and in a small stop over town on the way back to Seattle from the redwoods. But the beer selection was local and delicious and the meat was perfectly flavored and tender. I had the pork sandwich and loaded it down with the huge variety of sauces. It was amaze balls. Also the coleslaw which has never been my favorite was tangy and so good I ate all of it. Seriously don't miss this gem....

We have some friends who just moved to town and we have visited twice now. Both times we have eaten at Charley's. We get the trough to go and take it back to Draper Draft House to lay out on a table and devour. The meat is perfectly cooked. There are a zillion sauces to choose from. The sides are decent. The staff remembered us when we came back! The service is really good. It's an all around swell joint run by swell folks who seem to have a swell time making and selling good BBQ. It's the kind of place I'd expect to find by my family's homes in GA, NC, or KS, not in OR but it fits nicely in Roseburg. I will go back. I have no doubt.

Wondering if I went to the same place as everyone else or do people in Oregon not understand barbecue? Had the Sydney's southern comfort. A pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and spicy BBQ sauce. The pork was colder than the slaw and had no smokiness to speak of. It was in a hoagie roll which was strange. Definitely not worth 9 dollars. Oh and one booth was infested with ants, nasty.

Stopped by this place on a road trip through OR at suggestion of a friend. I test BBQ places from wherever I travel and have a good baseline for comparisons. I could go as high as 4 stars for the meats- baby back ribs were prepared dry, with what seemed like little to no basting; not juicy, but still pretty tender and slightly above average on taste alone. Pulled pork sandwich also held its own, but was nothing to write home about, just decent. The fact it was 2 p.m. on a weekday may have had something to do with it, as there was not a single other party in the place, also a bit strange considering the high reviews it was given, so the meats were sitting around for some time, and just got popped into a warmer to get them to serving temperature. Perhaps coming when busier would change that somewhat, but I will never know. They do have a variety of sauces for the meats, which was a plus, but their downfall was the fries...totally limp, rather greasy and really well below average, 1-2 stars tops! Place interior is very average, but can pass for a BBQ joint.... OK place if you driving through the area and need to fill up, as the portions are good-sized, but don't let the 4 star rating(as of this writing) fool you into thinking this place is something special.

Oh my god, sometimes you find a restaurant that just makes you want to cry it's so good. Charley's is that kind of restaurant. The fries are homemade and you get a TON!! The beef brisket was so tender it practically fell apart when touched with a fork. The sauces (grab 'em at the counter) were all so perfect, I couldn't choose one favorite among them. Portions are huge and shareable. Charley's... I will dream of you.

Bad choice from the beginning. The business for sale sign should have been our first clue. Second was the wait at the counter just to get service. Third was the fact they forgot to make our order. We had to ask after seeing several people get there order and leave. And the fourth reason why is the food was not that good. Brisket was so-so, beans to much sugar and only excuses why our food was forgotten. Will not go back.

2 week family road trip. Destination Seattle. Unfurled my grip on the steering wheel in Roseburg, where we stayed for two nights. Hellooo Charley's ! A vegetarian's nightmare for sure. Feasted family style with two full racks of ribs, a Brisket and a couple of kids meals of pulled pork sliders. Sides of Fries, hush puppies, and coleslaw abound. Plenty of food - The ribs were fall-off-the-bone fantastic. Seasoned wonderfully over apple wood smoke. A very notable selection of sauces, you can choose your own or go sans as I do. The brisket was a tad dry, I think that is mentioned in another review as well. But the fries ... OMG - they were incredible. I mean really, you figure any sort of non-meat thing doesn't have much of chance in a place like this no matter how prepared. Well friends, the homemade french fries are worth the stop. How I've got along in life this far without eating them until a few weeks ago is a mystery. For all you pussies, I might as well mention the green salad was larger than expected, fresh and crisp. It's a simple eatery. Very clean, a little smokey -duh, with tables and a few booths. Friendly and attentive staff with quick service. Very fair prices, though I would forgo ordering a kids meal. You get way enough food on your plate making it easy to share with junior. Our family loved this place. Go get your carnivore on. A total recommend.

Friendly service and with a nice interior, however the brisket was so dry I could hardly crew it. The pulled pork was tasty but the ribs seemed dry was well.

  • Michael H.

The meat and the huge selection of sauces was excellent. Portions were very good. The night we visited, they must have been short-staffed. There were two employees in the place and both were run ragged. At times, it seemed like things were taking A LOT longer than they needed to. After all, BBQ is by definition pre-cooked, so you'd think it'd be mostly slice, plate and serve. I don't know if it was the fries or just an overall panic that led to some long waits. Still, the service was friendly and solid. So, we'd definitely give this place another chance. The brisket, pork ribs and pulled pork were all very good. The chicken was on the dry side, but that seems to happen almost everywhere.

This was a great find while on a roadtrip thru Oregon on Interstate 5. The half rack of ribs was cooked perfectly, slow dry cooking process. But seeing there sauce selection, its amazing, I counted 15 different ones. I only tried the spicy original and hawaiian.

We come very often to Roseburg, well, first time at Charley's BBQ. What a disappointment. Ordered a (not so) large Tri-Tip sandwich, you pay more for large and more for Tri-Tip, and instead of a nicely BBQ'd Tri-Tip the meat was reheated using some kind of steamer. The bun went into the steamer also, result: Wet bun, no BBQ'd meat. Colorless meat, didn't taste like much, didn't look very good. Next a side of fried sweet potatoes were ordered. This was the smallest order of fries I've ever seen. When I asked the owner (?) he got defensive and told me those were expensive. Six or seven fries as a side dish? You got to be kidding. How cheap are these people? Anyway, rather pay a little more somewhere else (although over $10 for a single order is not cheap here), than go back at all to this place. Do not recommend.

We stopped off at this place on our way to Portland. We drove through the town and decided that this looked like the best option. I'm really glad we did. I asked the gentleman behind the counter which he'd prefer, brisket or pork, he recommended the pork. It was tender, had a really nice smokey flavor, and was served on a nice soft bun. They have a wide selection of homemade sauces that you're free to slather on and I liked being able to try different ones. (I settled on a combination of the Smoky and Spicy sauces.) The sides were good too. I had hush puppies which were also nice slathered in sauce. Service was great, everyone there was super nice and helpful. I will definitely go again next time we come through. Try the pulled pork. It's the real deal.

Great food at a decent price. $15 for a big meal is pretty good.

  • Kentor B.

These guys do BBQ right! Most places spend hours smoking their meat and then douse it in sauce that I don't like or with simply too much of it. Here it's smoked meat au naturale, and you can add whatever sauces you want on the side from many choices. Deelicious!

We couldn't drive through Oregon and not stop in. Everything, as expected, was delicious! The brisket sandwich is not to be missed. I am still dreaming about their BBQ beans.

Pretty good BBQ food. A little pricey but the food quality is good. Tough location to get in and out of. Terrible parking.

    (3)
  • Krista T.

Pretty good. I expected a touch more the price, but I really appreciate the fact that they offer half portions. Cause whaddaya gonna do with leftovers in a hotel room? I like that you can kind of pick and choose your options and sides, but a lot of the sides were deep fried. I'm sure I'll go back, but because I'm stuck here for another week - not because the service is stellar.

  • Monica H.

Great BBQ - amazing fresh-cut french fries, great pulled-pork sandwiches and chicken. Best part about the meat is that you choose the sauce (tons to choose from). I mix the honey bourbon and spicy for the pork sandwich, yummy. Some of the items are a few bucks more than you might expect but you get what you pay for and the care and quality comes through in the food here.

Love how they have so many different bbq sauces to choose from. There has to be anywhere from around 15-20 of them. Very nice =p

This review is based on the food only. WOW! What a treat!! We were on the road and decided to go here based on yelp reviews. I ordered the pulled chicken with corn fritters, mac n cheese & a side green salad. When I got the plate I was confused. It was plain chicken just chillin there. Then they pointed to the massive display of different BBQ sauces. What a blast this was!! We tried every different sauce with our meat (there are at least 10). My favorite was a combo of the smokey bbq sauce with the apricot bbq sauce - dynamite! The corn fritters were also out of this world. So sweet and fried and delicious. My boyfriend regretted not ordering them - although he got baked beans he said were excellent. Also the mac and cheese was soooo creamy and wonderful. We both felt sad we wasted a side option on the green salad... very plain compared to the rest of the treats on our plate! (we ended up dipping the salad in the bbq sauce too!). The staff was friendly and the bathroom was clean but it is definitely the food that makes me wish I lived closer to Roseburg!

Have eaten at Charley's several times in the past, and recently re-visited the restaurant. I ordered BBQ chicken and my friend ordered the brisket. The chicken was incredible, and after tasting his brisket - I was sold on that as well! I highly recommend Charley's to anyone who enjoys good, wood smoked BBQ! My favorite is the burritos that they make!

I would definitely go back to Charley's. There are few dining options in Roseburg and Charley's may just be my favorite. The brisket sandwich was delicious, and I loved the choices for BBQ sauce. Also, the service was quite good.

Definitely worth a visit. Good BBQ with good size servings at a fair price. Had the chicken and ribs with fresh cole slaw and beans. Both were great, tender.

On a road trip to California, my family wanted to stop for lunch and Roseburg was the next town we were driving through. Based on the reviews on yelp, we decided to stop here for a late lunch. The staff were very friendly, the serving size was large, and the food was hot. The sandwiches we had (prime rib and pulled pork) were very good and the fries were tasty and hot. The chili was okay and the cornbread that came with was delish. We were pleased overall and would recommend this restaurant.
