The spot reopened as the Hen House. We have eaten there three time now and their food is great. We've only eaten lunch, I had a Ruben twice and a club and they were both really good.

On the last day before the 100 degree temperatures were due, I rode from Glendale on the Reuben/Cow Creek roads through green and blacked forests, racing a fawn at one point, to Riddle for lunch at the Ol' Sportsman. The Riddle nickel mine closed long ago but two big Roseburg Lumber mills keep the town alive. Businesses selling liquor seem to dominate the village, though it has at least two churches downtown. The Ol' Sportsman's cafe was plain but clean inside with a counter that looked like it was supported by the serpentine rocks that make this a area with nickel, titanium and other metals in at least trace amount. I ordered a beef and bacon sandwich covered with nacho cheese sauce in a cheddar cheese-onion bun and choose the tomato soup as the side. Because the cheese overflowed the bun, it had to be eaten with knife and fork. A good tasting sandwich with the bacon and jalapeño in the cheese adding a distinctive flavor. The all liquid soup also had a bit of bite.
