Food: Was quick, fresh, and amazing. Every part of the meal complimented the dish. Had the Chicken burger with cheddar and bacon on what tasted like a home made ciabatta bun. Mind blowing good Had a bowl of their chowder: creamy big chunks of clam and potato. No corners cut here. Very good. Service: She was polite. Quick with our meals. Great knowledge on what was the special. Highly recommend if you are looking for a reasonable priced meal. 5/5

i'd like to give 2.5 stars... the sign on the board said to seat yourself. so we did. and then had to wait and wait and wait to catch someone's eye. that was a bit off-putting right off the bat. i had the chef's salad, which was pretty good. the ingredients were fresh, including the greens, which many times in a salad are wilted and brown and ugly. hubby wasn't thrilled at all with his french dip. the roast beef was sliced deli roast beef, not the real thing. and his fries were of the frozen variety, not fresh.

When I first walked into Don's Place, it was a bit reminiscent of Denny's. But all that changed when I got my food. Don's place is a casual coffee shop-type restaurant in Reedsport, Oregon. They have great service, great food, and put smiles on customer's faces everyday. Our table ordered a hamburger, a chicken sandwich, turkey on rye, and navy bean and ham soup. I tasted a bit of everything (and ate all of my own), and it was all scrumptious. Not too heavy either. Our server was very attentive and friendly. I ordered an Arnold Palmer to drink; it came out right away and was one of the best that I've tasted. As I mentioned earlier, the decor is a bit reminiscent of a Denny's or other coffee shop. Not too unique, but comfortable. This restaurant is a great place to bring the kids and family as well. tl;dr Coffee shop with great food and service. Individual Ratings: Food: 5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Ambiance: 3.75/5 Overall: 5/5

Stopped for salad and chowder. Salad was ok, dressing was a gelatinous Italian. Chowder. Was disappointing. Starch thick, no clam taste, or identifiable clams, essentially potato soup. Served a roll with it which I didn't touch with an oleo grease colored yellow as butter. Ate the salad. Very disappointing for a coastal restaurant that touts all the homemade meals.

Amazing pies! I came here with my parents on a visit to Reedsport and snuck a bite each of what they ordered - chocolate peanut butter fudge and sour cream lemon pies. The graham cracker crust on the sour cream lemon was perfect. I was happy with my Umpqua chocolate peanut butter ice cream. :) My dad used to work for Don so it was fun to come back here!

My daughter and I stopped in last week while on vacation. She swears the burger was the best she ever had & is still talking about it! My Reuben sandwich was ok, not the best or worst I've had. Service was slow and the place was not busy.

Four stars because of two things: (1) super friendly service and (2) amazing desserts. Don's is a diner, the kind of place that has a vast menu of standard American food. My chicken sandwich was pretty good, while my wife's was just OK. But the desserts were insane--I elected to get mine early in the meal, having a great chocolate milkshake, while my wife got what looked to be some amazing homemade cookies and pie on the way out. I could have stayed here all day and likely gained 400 lbs. (happily).

Great food, great service! I had the French Dip and it was mouth-watering good! As in, my mouth is watering just thinking about it, mmmmmmmmm....... The roll was was soft and the meat was tasty with just the right amount of au jus to dip your french dip in. Melts in your mouth good! The sweetheart who served me was friendly and was always smiling. Its your All-American Diner we all remininsce of and I will definitely be back! Love you guys!!!

My Aunt told me about this place and then I looked on here to read up on it. We decided to give it a go and why did we eat anywhere else while we were in the area I have no idea. I started with the side salad, no big deal your basic greens with croutons but it was on the table in a heartbeat, I was kinda like whoa. My cod fish sammich was so yummy, just a hint of tartar sauce, lettuce and tomato on a roll. The fish was so fresh and filled up the roll. Big portions. My hubby had one of the specials, as there were several. Ruben sammich and he opted out on the french fries and went with the chips like I get with mine. OMG the chips, I ask you how many places make their own Kettle chips on premises and serve them to you all nice and hot and oh so yummy. After we scarfed dinner down we had to try the pies, that is why my Aunt recommended this place in the beginning. Hubby went with the peanut butter and fudge cream pie and I had the coconut cream. The others are right, the crusts are like grandma, or my mom, made them. Oh so light and flaky so all you taste is the wonderful pie and not the crust. This place is definately a "do over" as my hubby likes to say. To bad we are leaving town in the morning. :(

Great food, excellent service and unbelievable pies. I am diabetic so I had one of there s.f. pies and it is comparable only to the Reedsport coffee house and bistros pies.

Don's Main Street Restaurant is a great family restaurant! Their food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. Don's clam chowder is really exceptional. The service is outstanding with you being given just enough attention to make you feel special, without the hovering that some places seem to think is right. Refills of whatever we were drinking were done without having to ask. Now we get to the crown jewel....the pie! I htought I made good pie, but this pie is out of this world. If you are going through Reedsport and it isn't a meal time, stop and have some pie. You won't be sorry. Great job over the years Don and Perky.

Fantastic clam chowder and corn bread. To top it off-the strawberry/rhubarb pie was incredible.

Having already eaten our main meal early in the day, my friend and I stopped by for something light in the evening. He ordered up a grilled cheese sandwich with fries while I had a slice of berry pie. We split a milkshake. The cheese needed a touch more melting according to him but otherwise everything here was as tasty as can be. The fries appeared to be freshmade. The pie crust is "grandma grade" and when a piece of pie is warmed up, it is almost as good as if it came right out of the oven. Don's uses Umpqua Ice Cream so their milkshakes taste great. If you wish you can special order whole pies here so should you be a local, look no further for your pie needs as their pies are the homemade style that everyone remembers that had a mama or grandma who knew how to make killer pie. A large menu and reasonable prices mean you will find something for everyone at Don's. The wood products industry deserted Reedsport but the good places to eat remain!

  • Karen H.

I give them 5 Stars solely on the pie! From creamy pies to excellent fruit pies and sugar free pies they are all great. My personal favorite is the very berry. They also serve breakfast and the omelettes are really good. They also make old fashion hand scooped ice cream treats.....BUT the star of the show is the PIE!

  • Noel F.

Bad choice for breakfast. The coffee was awful and never re-filled. Biscuits and gravy had a bad texture. The pancakes were gummy and the egg sandwich was greasy. The bacon was nice a crisp. So that was a plus.

  • Mable E.

Good sandwiches and soup. Fantastic selection of ice cream, milk shakes, malts, pies, and cakes. The place to eat!!! The strawberry rhubarb pie was incredible.

Excellent pies! I had berry and my hubby had strawberry rhubarb. As good as my pies! Our Sandwiches, soup & salad were very good as well.

  • Winter M.

This really is just a diner. The food is more greasy than flavorful. There was a stale taste to the fry oil. The lemon pie was very rich like butter. We could only eat a few bites. The shakes were good and the chowder was passable. Best thing we ate were the clam strips.

  • Trisha S.

The place is simple and bright inside with friendly staff. We stopped in for lunch. To start, we shared a house salad, it was fine: just lettuce, croutons and dressing. He ordered the Rueben with fries and I had the Veggie Sandwich with house-made potato chips. My sandwich was good, light and fresh. It had a generous amount of guacamole paired with mayo, so I didn't bother to add the cream cheese served on the side. His Ruben wasn't bad, but wasn't quite hot enough and was lacking in corned beef. Fries and chips were tasty. Desserts were very temping.

  • TJ M.

Highly recommend! Clean, fast and friendly service, reasonable prices. I suggest the roast beef sandwich. It is real oven roasted beef. The meatloaf is good. Any restaurant that has good meatloaf has got to be a good place to eat. Vegetable beef soup gets two thumbs up. Bathrooms are clean and smell clean First time we were here we got an absolutely huge slice of cream pie. This is the reason why we came back. However, a different waitress not only gave us a small slice of pie , she would not give us new forks. Kinda strange, right?

  • Phillip W.

This was a pleasant surprise. Clean and friendly. Not the fastest or most accurate service, but good enough. Fair prices and ample portions. We'll definitely be back when we're in the area.

This is a mandatory stop every time we're in Reedsport. Freshly made Green River soda is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Their menu is huge and the specials can't be beat for value and taste. I always have to have dessert here too, even if I get it to go. One word for me: Snickerdoodles! My friends always go for the bread pudding. Their menu is huge, something for everyone, and there is always a crowd, which tells me that Don is doing something right. Keep it up! I can't wait to come back!

We ate here twice during our week in town for work. Lunch - great hamburger, and tater tots!! I don't see tater tots in California restaurants, and it was a great treat! Crispy, potato goodness! Dinner - Steak fingers were ok, but they use real mash potatoes!! Excellent. And the banana split for dessert was huge! Worth every penny! In summary, they have honest to goodness family cooking, and great service!

  • Kim E.

We were in town so decided to try this place. The service was excellent. I had the chicken fried steak with homemade mashed potatoes...delicious! I believe most of their food is homemade. The pies are excellent...I had chocolate cream and boy was it good. The next morning (well afternoon) we went for breakfast. Food was very good. The waitress even had a pancake made special for us (it was after hours for pancakes, but she made an exception). Again, the service was excellent. They have the real old fashioned sodas (like vanilla or chocolate coke, roy rogers, green river, etc.). I would totally recommend this place if your passing through Reedsport, OR.

The best pie in Oregon! The service was friendly. Every slice of pie we took to go was outstanding! Do not miss the opportunity to stop at this unassuming gem! We are going back whenever we are within 100 miles!

What can you say when you wait 45 minutes for pancakes and they never arrive. We finally left. Pies do not look that fresh. Avoid this restaurant at all costs. Eat here at your own risk.

  • Chip B.

Pie pie pie and more pie! The food is good but the pie is some of the best I've had outside of southern family pies. Everyone there was super nice. We randomly stopped and glad we did. I bought an entire pie but mixed and matched the slices so I got a little of everything. Cream pies were the best.

I can't believe nobody has reviewed this place. We saw it heading south on our way down to Bandon and on our way back a friend asked if we wanted to stop. I was driving and was already in the parking lot by the time I answered yes. Pie is constantly on my mind. If it was socially acceptable to marry pie, I would. This place has been around since 1972. We only ate the pie here, but they've been around for 37 years, so they must be doing something right. Plus one of the owners is named Perky. I don't know why, but that is awesome. So, back to the pie. I had the marionberry pie with vanilla ice cream. Ordered it warm as it should be and boy oh boy was it delicious. My friends ordered the coconut cream pie with fresh whipped cream on top as well as the peanut butter and fudge cream pie, also topped with fresh whipped cream. Yes, I tried both. So good. I'm a sucker for a good berry pie, so that is how I came up with my choice. To sum up, the next time I'm down in Reedsport, I will definitely give the food here a try. If you are looking for a snack along 101, you could do far worse than stopping in to this establishment.

Went for the pie but everything was good. Bacon free clam chowder (home made) big pieces of juicy clam. Home made potato chips. Halibut sandwich and burgers were good.

Don's still working the kitchen, Hamburgers are still good. I had a piece of strawberry rhubarb pie on my trip back out to Oregon. Good as I remembered! Great pie and burger joint.

  • Wanderin' J.

We stopped here for dinner. I ordered the chicken fried chicken and a cup of clam chowder. I'm always ordering chowder and comparing. The chowder here was top notch fantastic!! It was thick and loaded with lots of potatoes and lots of clams. Delicious!! Better than that -- it didn't have a lot of bacon flavor to mask the taste. The chicken was lightly battered and out of this world! However, it was so big that I couldn't eat it all. It was a great place. The only downside was the restaurant staff. Well, really only the one waitress that was supposed to be serving us. She was so busy talking to a local guest that another waitress had to finally step in and take our order. Other than that, we would have given 5 stars.

Passing through on a winter day we needed a late lunch or early dinner. We had Ben here before...not great but decent food. We were happy. Our shrimp and fish and chips basket was good enough. The peanut butter/fudge pie was good. Service was quick. Waitress was nice. This is a good place for a quick meal.

After a bad reception at the pizzeria next door, Scotty and I received a very warm welcome at Don's. It was early afternoon and I didn't know what i want but the menu offered a big selection. I decided on the half sandwich, soup and dessert special. Good choice. A hot turkey sandwich, a side of clam chowder and a homemade slice of raspberry swirl chocolate chip cheesecake. The cheesecake was so AMAZING!. It was dense but fluffy, not too much graham cracker like I like it, and very comparable to the Cheesecake factory. Also our server was very kind and helpful. We were playing the trivia games that were on the table and she kept bringing new ones. Keeping us entertained. I loved It!

Thanks for reviews, helped to make selection for the freshest best breakfast, the freshest best service (Kathy), terrific location and restaurant, and terrific pie selection. From Idyllwild, CA, and this is a clean and cute place.

The worst service ever!!!!! and just so so food....3 friends and I stopped there for breakfast while on a roadtrip...it took us 1 full hour to get our meals and when we did we had no utensils to eat with..the resturant was not busy and there were plenty of servers and cooks.....just awful, will never go back !!!!!

  • Rebecca L.

My son and I were ordered to stop by Don's Diner by my parents during our recent roadtrip from SF Bay area up to Port Townsend, WA. They ate there and loved it sooo much. We ate a small dinner there that consisted of cornbread and chili. The cornbread was warm and perfect. Then we had dessert. Wow.... my 11 year old son had banana cream pie and I had the peanut butter chocolate cream pie. So good! Worth the stop!!!!! Price range is including dessert. Prices reasonable but add dessert and over $10 per person.

  • Reenie L.

I LOVE this restaurant! I live at least two hours away but whenever I have out of town guests I insist on showing them the Oregon coast...of course I time the trip to arrive in Reedsport at lunch time. Everyone I've taken to Don's has raved about the food but especially the pie! It's not just the pies that are great, the cakes are to die for, too. I've never had to wait for a table but they're always fairly busy. Many of the customers seem to be locals...especially with the 'after church' crowd. I've had faster service...Micky Ds, Jack's but the food at Don's is worth waiting for!
