We have driven by this place anytime we go to the reservoir or Kimberly. Never tried it until last night. My whole family opted for burgers. I also wanted a burger but im trying to eat a little healthier and went for the grilled chicken sandwich. My sandwich was good..had thick slices of tomato which I love and lettuce and pickle. The waitress forgot the ranch I requested on the side instead of on the sandwich but the chicken was moist and tasty so no need for the ranch. Healthier for me anyway! Both of my kids and my husband were very pleased with their burgers. My husband ordered a ginormous burger with ham and fried egg and bacon. He had to take half home. Milkshakes were thick and good...the potato salad I had with my sandwich was pretty tasty. Had dill in it which was a nice touch. We will be back I imagine next time we roll through prineville.

You cannot come to Prineville without going to Tastee Treet. If there's a better Burger somewhere else I certainly haven't found it and I've been pretty much everywhere. I've eaten here many times and today had the Double Cheeseburger and Potato Salad. The meat was cooked just right and the tomatoes, lettuce, etc were super fresh. This is not a "Fast Food Joint", everything is cooked to order so be patient. They have a large menu with many choices. If you're not stuffed after your Burger, try one of their awesome house made deserts. They are what every modern chain Drive In aspires to be but will never attain. They bring back memories of what real great food and service used to be. Keep it up guys!

I was on my way to the Painted Hills and decided to stop for some dinner in Prineville. I was with two friends one being vegetarian and me who hates going to chains, even in new towns. As we drove down the main strip looking for something to satisfy our bellies we noticed a sign that said "Tastee Treet" We decided this would be the place! Even my vegetarian friend was excited for some onion rings. We walked in not knowing what to expect... it is just a small town burger joint. We were greeted by a fun staff. We instantly felt like locals laughing with the workers as we waited for our burgers. I wanted to get the Hawaiian Burger with a chicken patty instead of a beef patty. This seemed to really baffle the staff. The conversation went something like this, "I would like the Hawaiian Burger with a chicken patty instead of beef" "What? Ok? Um... How do I do that... umm I guess I would charge you for.... I don't know!" I guess you can't mix it up to much in small towns. Then of course my vegetarian friend ordered... that through them for a loop. Even after all the confusion with my order I was very pleased! My burger tasted amazing! I would say better then many higher end restaurants with burgers. This place knows how to make one! The chicken was excellent and it was packed full of lot of yummy things, my favorite being guacamole! All and all if you find yourself starving in Prineville check out this place and don't just go through the drive in actually walk in! You have to check out the crazy counter top.

This is a home town, where you walked to as a child when off school for the summer with your best friend for an ice cream, shake or burger treat kind of place. A real Norman Rockwell throwback. Every rural community needs a place like this. I would give it a solid 5 stars if their fries were nice and crisp instead of greasy and mushy. I've tried to order them 'crisp' several times but, they just cook them the way they cook them regardless. I know they'll never change their ways but, I have one suggestion; golden brown, crisp crinkle cut fries. I double dog dare them to taste test this option for a week and see what their customers like best. Those limp greasy fries they have now need to go! Help me help you!

Best burger that I've had in years! This is the burger joint that the big chains, like Five Guys Burgers, want to be. The bun was toasted and never got soggy from the lettuce/tomato/pickle/onion inside. The thick burger was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The wait staff was small town friendly. Most of the customers wore work boots and cowboy hats because this is a working mans (woman's) place. No pretension. The Tastee Treet has seating on 2 sides. One side is all barstools and horseshoe shaped bar. The other entrance is 5 or 6 small tables with a good view of the ice-cream counter. If your arteries can handle it, top off your meal with a locally made hard packed ice-cream...honestly the cone is big enough for two people! I agree with another reviewer that the fries are on the greasy side but this still is the place I want to visit again, each time I pass through town.

A great experience. I visit Prineville regularly and I always look forward to dining at Tastee Treet. The whole experience just takes you back to the good old days. The sign, the sliced agate counter, the service - a great slice of small town America. Very good burgers - a balance of meat, bun and condiments. I am not a huge fan of their fries - but the tater tots are excellent. Eberhard ice cream makes great milkshakes. Why go to the franchises down the street when you can get great authentic food at the Tastee Treet? Try it, you'll like it.

The Tastee Treet is as much a land mark of my home town as is the court house just across the road. While not nearly as old, you can't exactly get a good butterscotch milk shake at the court house, nor does that prestigious building offer a mountain burger easily big enough for two people. Seriously though--and I won't be biased by the fact that my high school sweet heart worked there once, long ago, and gave me free meals--the Tastee Treet serves all American food from hamburgers to corn dogs to banana splits. Truthfully, the place is in many ways an anachronism in that there probably isn't a healthy thing on the menu. Then again, there are times where we must sustain our emotional and spiritual health and that's where this little place is top notch. Also, if you want to get a small town feel go inside, sit around the bar, start a conversation with the locals and regulars. Like the many kinds of rocks living in the counter the atmosphere is a mixing pot of local small town life as well of visitors from all over the world (if memory serves this is the first place I have seen women, German twenty-somethings traveling through, with arm pit hair!). So come one, come all, enjoy an ice cream cone, and enjoy a smile on your face! P.S. Greasy-soggy fries, you might avoid these.

Rockhounders will love the counter on the food side of the restaurant! On the ice cream side of the restaurant they serve Eberhard Ice Cream (wonderful ice cream) of which they have many different flavors including seasonal flavors like licorice! Nice small town hang out.

As the signs point out, this is not fast food, so don't expect it quickly. The food is good. The wait staff is friendly enough. The problem is it's not fast anything. We asked for water when we ordered and is took them 15 minutes to bring it out. Nobody else in the place, not one. Turns out that instead of getting water for the half of us who were out in the 100 degree heat, they thought it prudent to first make milkshakes for the other half of our group who were sitting in the air conditioned seating area. That said, it's the best place on Prineville to feed people a group with varying needs.

Delicious drive-in food, made to order, at a good price. All 4 of us were pleased with our selections: PBJ, burger and veggie burgers as we kicked off a for of Eastern OR. The restaurant really looks the part as well: cool vintage sign, inside counter seating, and a shaded seating area outside looking forward a great park/playground across the street. If my kids were still littler and wigglier, would be a great stop: burgers to go and eat in the park across the street!

My friend and I were driving on the way back home from an awesome day at Painted Hills, and we were starving while we were on the road. We found this place, thought it looked like a cool "Mom & pap's" place; however, we took the drive thru, and the wait felt like forever. They had us and other customers stop on the curbside because orders weren't ready, but they told us that after waiting for 10 minutes. After another 7 minutes, for a total of 17 minutes just for two burgers and fries, they had our order. Then, when I come back home, I get this murky, gross feeling in the pit of my stomach. It got worse, so I asked my friend if she had the same stomach ache. Turns out, we got food poisoning from this place. So after 17 minutes of cooking our food, you would think the food is on par and meets the health standards. Instead, it left my friend and I with 17 minutes of time wasted and two upset stomaches.

The mountain spicy burger was enormous and delicious. It also wasn't too spicy for either of us (I'm really a fan of spicy food, and my girlfriend does as well). I split the burger and tater tots with my girlfriend, and it was extremely filling! They even put it on separate plates for us. We are only here for a couple days, but will definitely be talking about this place and will be trying to stop by again before we leave!

Good, but the obviously high turnover staff barely knows how diners run, front of house, that is. One waitress, making a milkshake, ground the blades to the inside of the metal cup over and over again. It was a tortuous experience -- sounded like being in the dentist's chair and having a loud drill in your ear. As someone who has made many old fashioned milkshakes I can attest that it is not required to grind away at the ice cream with such vigor. This incident required me to relocate and sit outside on the patio . Once that change was made I could finish the rest of my meal peacefully and blissfully. This place has been a classic since the fifties and it remains wonderful. A must. The wait staff also neglects to mention the best deal on the menu which is the cheeseburger fries and coke for $7.

After reading some reviews about the service being so slow we weren't sure about stopping. I'm glad we stopped!! We are a family of 5 and my daughter has a gluten allergy, so sometimes it takes a while to get our food. The waitress was very friendly and quick to wait on us and it didn't seem to take any longer than most places to get our food. We came for breakfast, but 2 of us ordered burgers. All the food was delicious and BONUS!!!, they have gluten free bread, buns and carrot cake. We in town one more night and I think we'll be eating here again before we leave.

The food is pretty good, and I would choose it over the processed, preserved substances they call "burgers" at McDonald's any day. However, the day we went in, the employees were very slow and inefficient, and it took a good 5 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. Especially unimpressive given the fact there were about 6 employees present, but they were all running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Bottom line: good food, but the service needs improvement.

Pretty good little burger joint. Delicious shakes, awesome honey mustard. We dine there fairly regularly.

I moved to Prineville from Salem, where the 50s diner-to-"50s diner" ratio leaves something to be desired. Prineville only has three diners, but all of them are the real deal - and the Tastee Treet is the realest deal of all. The burgers and shakes at the Tastee Treet are excellent. The buns are grilled to slightly-crunchy perfection. There's lots of vegetation on the patties, which isn't always a great thing at places like this, but the veggies used here are fresh and flavorful. No iceberg lettuce shreds or pre-sliced cardboard tomatoes here. I am a big fan of the student burger, which is just the right size for lunch. Other reviewers have been on the fence about the fries, and not without reason. These are the opposite of McDonald's fries - long and thick, served very limp and with a lot of grease clinging to the left-on potato skins - and you get a lot of them with your order, served up with a generous cup of pink fry sauce. The fries are fatty as hell and will sit in your gut like a hot starch brick all day long if you try to eat all that you are served. They're not consistent, either: of the 10 or so times I've eaten at Tastee Treet since moving to Prineville 7 months ago, my fries have come out raw in the middle at least twice, which isn't a great average even if you take the essential homemade-ness of these fries into account. That said, it's a taste you can acquire if you accept the uncertainty and don't nosh yourself to death.

Authentic nostalgic vibe. Burgers were fresh and made to order. Would recommend sitting at the counter and chatting up some locals. Great conversation all around. Would also recommend the mountain burger. Hit the spot! Staff was extremely nice and pleasant as well. You would be dumb to choose McDonald's up the block over this!!

Disaster. Sullen disorganized distracted help. Loud trashy cell phone customer. Slow. Bad. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. How they survive is a mystery.

The girl on the grill cross contaminated everything with raw beef! To go boxes, drinks, her clothing which she used to wipe her bloody hands. Bare hands, no wash-- that's a no go for me.

The Mountain Burger is one of the best found in the state. Couple it with real French fries and it makes Tastee Treet #1 in all of the state. I don't take reviews lightly, if you don't perform I will nail you.

We go out of our way to visit Prineville when we're in central Oregon, just so we can grab a milk shake at Tastee Treet. I love this place.

This is always a must when in Prineville, for the people that call the fries "soggy or greasy". Well they are real fries, hand cut and not frozen. If you are looking for a burger joint thatis true to it's name stop into the Tastee Treet.
