We came here simply because of the name. I mean, who wouldn't want to go to a firkin bar? Our stop occurred after a Blazer game. I'd wasn't in need of another drunk, but ordered a piece of pizza. My friend was still in party mode and got a shot of tequila with an orange sprinkled with cinnamon. I was surprised they had oranges and cinnamon on hand, but only because this seems to be a strictly PBR kind of place. That was a pleasant surprise. I am not a pool, shuffle board or video game aficionado, but this place definitely has something for everyone. Namely. hot food for the likes of me. I also appreciate that this is located in the SE part of town, where you don't have to pay to park and there are no time restrictions. Yet.

nice pub with good atmosphere over in SE PDX. They have some good beers on tap and more than decent pizza as well. Live music on weekends as well.

Just a great place to hang out overall. David, the bartender, is awesome. The drinks are strong so you will definitely get your money's worth. The shots are like doubles every time. And they have pretty good food for before, during, or after you start feel that liquor kicking in. Plus it's always nice to have that easy pizza option. Staff are all super nice. The place is big enough to hold a good number of people, but small enough to seem intimate. It's definitely a dive bar but the kind I love. The kind that is disappearing left and right in order to make room for craft cocktail bars. Protect our dive bars! I'm a fan of their smoking patio. I'm now only a social/drinking smoker, but even when I'm not smoking I have friends who do so I end up on the smoking patio a lot. It's heated, has plenty of bench type picnic tables, and another smaller area if you want to smoke and drink away from most of the people. They also have bands on Saturday I think. I'm not a fan of the banks because I'm old now and feel it's too loud because the room is too small for live music, but hey, there's an outdoor patio so problem solved! Good location, always lots of parking. Great place to just hang out with some friends and drink. Oh, and there's a pool table too.

Do you like open mic nights? Yes? Go here on Sunday's at 7:30. Everyone is awesome and inviting and their pizzas are weirdly amazing. I had the vegetarian one with spinach, arugula, garlic, craisins and whatever other amazing stuff was on it and it was awesome. And cheap!

I went here two years ago and left my credit card behind. In the morning my credit card company called because someone at the bar had used it and tried to make purchases on an obscene website. I got my card back the next day and have never been back. Not classy guys.

No frills. Friendly bartender. Solid OR beer selection. Pinball, pool, TVs. We sought refuge from the Portland drizzle at this neighborhood watering hole and downed a couple pints.

This is in my top 5 of portland bars. If you love checking out the pulse of local portland rock music, this is the place to hit, although not always my cup of tea, but often glorious and always free! The music usually starts at 7, so you don't even have to exhaust yourself to enjoy. The great tap list is often changing and the bartenders are great.

The pizza is Bomb. They always have a good IPA on draft. Big patio out back. Overall good vibes. Watch out at night, the place gets packed!

The Firkin Taven is. It exists. There are beers. Actually a pretty good list of them. There is liquor. There is food from a Fryolator. There are TV's. The bartender's name is Don. That's my name. And I can get down with that. It's a good name. We found the Ducks game here. At least one quarter of a Ducks game. The place was pretty empty and so quiet as to be noticeably quiet. Like, no music, no TV sound.... quiet. Either the acoustics are designed so as to suck all the sound out of the room or I am finally officially going deaf. We even asked about the sound, and he said they usually play music from Spotify or whatever. But for some reason, that Saturday, not. The space has low ceilings, is kind of dark but still flourescent-lit, and it sports pool tables and a smoking porch. Honestly we couldn't really think of a reason to stick around, especially since the TV at my house is bigger and my booze at home is already paid for. We came down because Blitz was too cray, but the lack of excitement didn't have me wanting to stay. it's still an okay bar if you're in the area and need a decent beer selection (and don't want to walk the 4 blocks down to Apex). Multiple TV's help. It is.... 3 stars.

The pizza is good, I think this is worth stoping by. I just had 3 pints and 2 slices of pizza for $13 bucks..

quiet late afternoon...local tavern quite empty...small bar appearance, but extending back for more...cool dive bar atmosphere...serving good beer variety...portland opening exposure to unique beer tastings...quick talk with bartender on beer...deciding on the breakside salted caramel stout...opening new doors to the idea of tasty beer...like beer dessert...carmel start and light salt finish...no aftertaste...surprisingly delicious start and perfect finish...no luck finding this stout in california...thanking firkin tavern for the experience..

Not too impressed with this location. Came here to check out a friends band play. They were headlining, yet not only did the opening band go on late, they played significantly longer than they were supposed to. I realize that the band is at fault, but a decent venue spot will at least make an attempt to keep then on a schedule. The other locations I've ever visited always did, at least. But that doesn't really say much about the bar. The other thing is more a minor annoyance. My grand "blah" about the Firkin is not just that it's small, or that it's dirty, or that their bathroom is so ridiculous that the men have to stand in line to get in, but the service was horrible. The two bartenders working his particular Friday night made zero attempts to serve customers in any kind of recognizable manner. A line spontaneously formed to try and create some order, but they would wander off and serve some guy who weaseled his way through a bunch of other people. One bartender added incompetence to the mix by going so slow he moved like a Romero zombie. And then would stop serving drinks to slowly wash dishes (like, plate dishes, not needed glasses). Meanwhile the line got longer and longer. There are much better places to grab a beer or drink that actually make an attempt to serve their customers reasonably. I'd go to one of those locations. Even if you want to see the music act, the stage is so small, a better show could happen on the back patio of a fifth story apartment.

Great selection of craft beers, most eclectic live music selection, full cocktail bar with fresh-squeezed juices. Cooky characters leftover from Lucky Inn cast of Universal monsters

Dude, the Firkin is bomb. The drinks are cheap, the beer menu is extensive and filled with ever-changing, hip-to-the-skip microbrews, and the bartender is one of the sweetest, most customer-attentive bartenders in Portland. He has great taste in music (that's his iPod always playing in the background), is fun to talk to, and is incredibly generous with the beer samples. Heck yeah. It looks like a sketchy hole out front, but trust me, it's not. The backyard patio is covered and cozy, and even the bathroom is always clean. Two thumbs way up for this place.

WHAT IT'S SO GOOD EVERYTHING IS SO GOOD I DON'T UNDERSTAND How does this bar have the best pizza I've ever had? There's a foodie fig pizza and a pepperoni pizza AND THEY'RE BOTH PERFECT. The crust! The heat! AND! They have every drink I've ever wanted!! This live soft/bouncy/humble jazz is sweet and (good god do you see that guy on bass? His hands! He's amazing!) I can still hear my partner and also all the other conversations, and did I mention how somehow the other patrons are--to the one--funny and real and :sweet: and perfect for peoplewatching? Seriously it's like we've fallen into an indie movie about some quirky boy's coming of age; I don't understand.

Sunday nights at the Firkin are where to be if you're not the type to go to Stripparoke. Their open mic night attracts some lovely folks, so you can come watch chill people swoon over your talented friend. Bartenders are friendly and drinks are cheap. Be aware that this is definitely a beer and whiskey bar. They serve up cheap slices of pizza and burgers if you get hungry. Oh - and the patio out back is a fun spot to chill for a while. Also, they may or may not show Game of Thrones on Sunday nights after open mic. Cannot confirm or deny. I mean, they totally don't (do). Firkin is definitely a neighborhood Portland bar. Make yourself a regular, why dontcha.

Kind of a dive bar, but they've got a decent selection at a good price. The live band was a good plus, but it was our 4th place on a pub crawl so I was fairly lubricated by the time we arrived here and can't provide an accurate opinion of the band playing.

My first time here i was like OK its just another typical dive bar, but after 20 Minutes i realized this place is amazing!!! there seams to be one bartender every time i go there and he has it down!!!! the place can be packed and everyone can get a fast drink and the guy is hilarious!!!! but the best part about this place is the PIZZA i don't understand how they have the best pizza in town!!!!! the WALDORF PIZZA IS LITERALLY TO DIE FOR!!!!!

  • Jeff M.

Seriously, one of the best bartenders in town. I'm always greeted with a great smile and witty comment. Amazing pizza. Awesome happy hour PBR and cheese pizza for 3 bucks. Great local bar!

Great little dive bar! Decent tap list and decent atmosphere/conversation. Kind of ended up here and ill kind of end up here again soon...Its just a dive bar with a NICE tap list. They change it out with seasons as well. You cant beat the price either... who wants to go o 9$ beer night all the time. I want to enjoy a great beer and not feel I got taken when it comes to paying... Dont expect anything fancy..its the epitome of a dive bar, but you come for the company and beer!

  • Jeremy L.

The Firkin Tavern has the best tap list of any dive bar I've ever stumbled in to. Hands down. I've only dropped in twice, but both times I've been able to order several beers that I'd never been able to try before (not easy for this beer snob). The prices were decent, too. I don't come to this neighborhood often, but I'll make a point to grab a beer or two at the FT any time I am. Like I said, it's totally a dive, but I guess that's part of what I like about it. They've also had cover-free live music both times I was there.

HH from 4-7 daily with $3 wells and micro pints. Kind of a mix of a dive bar (worn seats, mismatched furniture, etc) and a nicer place (nice TV's, ceiling/lighting, etc). Overall great place for a couple drinks after work.

This place recently changed names. The place looks like it also recently was cleaned and redone a bit. We stopped in for a random beer. This is a good choice if you want to watch some sports in a small setting with a few other people. Everyone was friendly and a bit older than us. The happy hour is pretty sweet with the beer deal being $3 for a pint. Not too shabby.

This place is kind of dive-y, but in a good way. There are a ton of TVs, and the place is very Portland. The bartender (and possible owner) was awesome, loved chatting him up. We ordered Fish and Chips and the Pulled Pork Sammy with tots. You get SO many tots. He highly recommended the pulled pork, which was decent, but we're pulled pork snobs, so we thought it was only okay. The fish and chips were a pleasant surprise though--I think that was one of the best fry jobs I've had on my fish. It was crispy, and the breading wasn't super thick. That was probably my favorite part of the meal. Plus, the guy brought us a ton of dipping sauces--BBQ sauce, honey mustard, ranch, ketchup, and tartar sauce. Amazing service. If I'm in the area and needing some good, cheap eats (food is like, $6), I'll definitely stop in again. They're adding a kitchen soon, so I look forward to a bigger menu!

Check this place out Wednesday nights @ 9pm-on. They have a music video dj taking requests and can i just say how AWESOME his library catalogue is!? man...we played some jams that night since it wasn't too busy. check it out, you won't be disappointed! in addition to the cool video DJ, overall this place is pretty cool. bartender was really nice and friendly, lots of yummy draught beers to choose from along with talls can of beers too, and a mellow atmosphere. hot tip from the regular: don't play the video poker machine, it ate all his money lol. seemed like parking in the area was easy to find and available. large bar with stool seating along with tables n chairs...and if you have the urge, billiars table in the back for your enjoyment (i think you have to insert quarters to play though.) they also have live music it sounds like which is great. really glad our local friends took us here, folks need to check out this little gem for sure!

Some friends and I went here for their open mic night on a Sunday recently. They had good beer on tap and a decently organized open mic setup. They needed another bartender at times but probably weren't expecting such a decent turnout for the open mic. Will probably hit this place again the next time I'm in Portland.

I was extremely skeptical of The Firkin when a friend asked me to meet her there for an open mic. I was still pretty skeptical when I walked in. However, I was immediately greeted by the bartender, patrons (mostly regulars) and the extensive tap list. Good prices and GREAT homemade pizza. I ended up coming back for a concert a few days later and was greeted again by all of my new friends. It's like Cheers, but with better beer. Will definitely be back.

i entered the twilight zone last night at firkin tavern. it's hard to explain just how bad the staff were at their jobs. the bartender was hammered and stumbled up to me after about ten minutes sitting at a relatively desolate bar. he took my order and wobbled away to pour me a moose drool, not asking my buddy next to me if he'd like anything to drink. then this dude disappears; for like twenty minutes, no joke. gone. dudes were serving themselves drinks and i was very tempted to grab my card and take off because i was sure the bar would collapse into a black hole any second. everyone in this place was completely obliterated, but there were a few other dudes at the bar who witnessed this shit. apparently the cook was sitting at the bar while this all went down but was oblivious and no one ever did ask my buddy if he needed anything... there was no one there to prevent this bar from being ripped off. it's times like these when i wonder why i can't find a bar tending job. owner: check your tapes and fire this moron.

I LOVE this place. Oh why do I love you Firkin Tavern? 1. I learned a new word. "Firkin" is not a hillbilly way to say something naughty. 2. David the main man is sweet and attentive. 3. Hey there cheap drinks, I like you. 4. Muddling my limes, umm YES. Long story short, my friend needed a rad place to hold a birthday bash and they were nothing but accommodating. The staff let them decorate and arrange for friends to DJ the bash. They have a large patio space and a nice area for shakin butt if needed. This is a great place for large groups and just kicking back for a couple of drinks. I am excited to return and check out the upcoming live music they have arranged for December!

This review is for the KJ: I had time before work on NYE and decided to go in a bar and sing karaoke. My decision lead me to the Firken Tavern. I was the only person at the bar that was there by themselves and everyone seemed to know each other so I felt like a sore thumb. People were singing and the sound was great... then my song comes on and there is all kinds of feed back and the drum kit is rattling from all the noise. I stood there and was like "what the f$%^ is going on here?" KJ was a jerk and made a dumb joke. I left. sad face.

I like this little place, whether it's because I happen to be there when the owners wife was there or not may have impacted my experience. Their tap list? solid and unexpected. Their cocktails? all fresh squeezed juices. didn't try their food. Weve been there mostly for the ducks games it's all day happy hour while the ducks are playing. and if you happen to be there while the owner and his wife are there it's not so quiet. it's a quaint neighborhood joint with a full line up of bands, open mics, and stand up all through out the week. nice little smokers patio out back as well.

Stop-in accomplished. And yes, pretty dead most nights. If that's your thing (sometimes its mine) then its quite nice. Pool is open and free of competition, lights are slyly dimmed and there's alcohol. Maybe I'm scrapping the complement barrel but no real updates. Decent prices, better than average beer selection, and no real complaints.

I freakin love this place! Very chill spot and the bartender has a great variety of specialty drinks! If I lived in Portland this would be my regular place, cuz I could totally afford it! Oh & I love the breeze that came thru.. Very soothing!

I love this place. The beer selection is amazing and priced very well. The food is amazing, too, and surprisingly inexpensive for how much you get. I overwhelmingly recommend the pulled pork sammy.

This became my regular bar after Ladd's Inn closed down the street. I love the regulars. I love ALL the bartenders, but especially David who is funny, kind, a great mixologist and fellow Stevie Nicks fan. Good chicken strips. They play good music and karaoke is fun here. My friends and I love it. For people who like nicer beers, they have those. I'm a Pabst girl. Rarely a line for the bathrooms. Awesome back patio. Need I go on?

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations.
