Ooh la la! Simply the best topping selection around. OK, OK....we've all heard the Subway/Quizno's debate, but I ask you, do either of those really hold a candle to the Pita Pit? I suppose if you want to be loaded up on carbs, you better go with the thick bread of one of those sandwich shops, but if what you want is an amazing meat selection (from deli cold cuts to fresh chicken breast to mediterranean-style beef) plus dmaned-near every topping you could imagine (as fresh as fresh can be), then this is a must-do lunch stop. This place is centered in the heart of the PSU campus, so expect a lot of the college crowd, but I've never had a bad experience even though I'm clearly well beyond the college age. Just outside the door, there's a great little plaza with a water feature and tons of bens. If the benches are full, sit on the steps. It's just a great little venue.

I've always been a fan of Pita Pit and they're pretty much similiar from town to town. It's fairly healthy and beats the high fructose corn syrup-filled ingredients at Subway. The breakfast pita's have fresh cracked eggs and a variety of fresh vegetables that proves fast food breakfast doesn't have to be all about grease and potatoes. The lunch/dinner options are decent too. The Philly steak is the best option - nothing like roast beef with sauteed onions, peppers, mushrooms, and melted cheese. Everything else is ok, better than what you'd find for the same price-range anywhere nearby. If you ever ask for "everything" when they ask what ingredients you want, watch out: some employees are more skilled than others. I can't tell you how many times my sandhwich has burst open because it was overstuffed.

It was OK. Definitely better places than the Pita Pit around PSU. A little too pricey for the quality, in my opinion. Also, I had to repeat every single condiment on my pita, cause the guy making it kept saying "huh?" I did speak loudly, btw. Maybe turn down the music in there??

Amazing! Almost ate in our sketchy hotel restaurant but came on Yelp and searched for something close and found this place! Great, healthy food and awesome service!

I've enjoyed the pitas here in the past. My favorite is the chicken souvlaki. They closed during the summer then opened up with new people working there. I visited twice since the reopen and have had some tasty, but horribly wrapped pitas. It irks me that the workers keep ripping the pita. The most recent time I was so lucky as to get a ripped AND loosely folded pita :(. But that's not all, the lady who made the pita got sauce all over her gloves during folding, in which transferred to the outside of the wrapping paper. She then tried to hand it off to me-which I refused to take without a bag. I was amazed how unaware these people are in their food prep. I appreciate people who take care in how they make their food- even if it's just a simple sandwich. So this puts me off. The lady seemed nice and gave me a dollar off coupon but it's not likely I'll be back to use it.

New owner. I used to love this place. Now not so much. The meat is half of what it used to be. The don't wrap the pita or the paper properly so it's harder to grab and eat on the go. The up side is they added a couple more options.

This is place is SO much cleaner and fresher than the Cedar Hills location. I can't even believe how spotless it is in here (my first time in this location). All the veggies are organized with no brown edges in the lettuces and nothing spilled in between the choices. The grill is clean, the floor is clean, they wrapped my sando TWICE, once with the top 1/2 exposed, and then again. Perfect. Seriously, the folks at the Cedar Hills location should take a field trip to downtown Portland to watch and learn from these guys.

It's pretty sub-par. There are lots of good pita options right across the street in the food cart pods. The food is generic and mediocre at best.

I have never had a bad experience here. The service is quick and pleasant. The food is exactly what you're expecting and they make sure to put it together exactly how you ask. I like to get the fork and knife version, which is essentially a salad instead of a pocket. Great alternative to a sandwich, and way better than Subway's salads.

I got a chicken breast pita pit from here and I got food poisoning. I was very disappointed because I love pita pit and now I wouldn't even bother going back. The service wasn't as great as the Hawthorne or Vancouver pita pit.

Horrible service we had to say "hello how are you doing" first to the servers. They forgot my avocado and I had to remind them and upon reminding him he got offended as if I was questioning whether or not I ordered it and I paid for it it's on my receipt. They did not offer to put anything on the grill with the chicken like all other Pita Pits do and when I asked them to they look put off and said sorry and didn't grill the veggies or offer to. Overall the Hawthorne Pita pit is great. The downtown one was a big disappointment. They were empty but made us feel they wanted us to get us out of there as quick as possible. This was at 245 on Sunday, March 15. I would have given them one star but I've had good experiences at this location in the past so I give them the benefit of the doubt and give them two stars.

Pita Pit is basically the definition of A-OK. If you've never been to one, think of a cross between Chipotle and Subway except more Mediterranean. You pick a type of meat (or veggies or falafel), a type of pita to stuff it in, then complete the meal with a bunch of veggies and sauce. It's not too expensive, it won't take too long to get your food, but it's also not too expensive. There really isn't much to brag about, but there's also not much to complain about. It's A-OK.

I'd never been to a Pita Pit before, but this one was clean, the staff were friendly, and they gave me free avocado because I didn't want cheese.

I've worked in food service. I know what it's like to have customers coming in shortly before closing. I know what it's like to be college-aged and awaiting the moment my work shift ends. However, I also know the right way to respond to a customers' friendliness and generous tips... Guess I'm alone in this. Having gotten out of work later than expected, I literally ran uphill from Pioneer Square in the rain just to get a quick, late-night bite to eat around PSU that wasn't burgers or pizza. Knowing that I was entering about 5 minutes before closing time, I was friendly and apologetic and tipped quite generously at the register--being on a college campus, the tip jar probably doesn't get much action, so I would expect my tip to be a little more appreciated or at least win me a smile from the staff... Yeah, right. I was pretty fast in ordering my pita and fillings, trying to get out of their hair as soon as possible, but the blonde girl who made my pita didn't even look at me when I thanked her and apologized for being "one of those people". Even after all the effort I'd made to get in and out with friendliness and large tips!! The pita itself tasted okay, but between the fact that it was overpriced and how crappy the customer service was, I regret not dipping my hand into the tip jar to take back some of my money. For God's sake, I'm a struggling twenty-something, too!! Enjoy your boxed-wine after-work party, you rude, passive-aggressive hipsters!

I actually would give this place 1 star. But I never give out just one star for reviews. Basically my two star review is like a one star review for other people. I'm saving it for when I find a bug in my food or something *knock on wood that it never happens* anyways, the customer service was horrendous!! There was two people working at the time and two friends and I walked in; no greeting no nothing. After I had been standing at the spot to order for a few minutes one person finally comes up and asks "what do you want?" So I hesitantly ordered because I was debating if I should still eat there or not. They rolled their eyes at me because they had the displeasure of waiting a what appeared to be an excruciating extra 30 seconds for me to choose what I wanted to eat. So the whole picking what I want in my pita pit happened and I paused a moment and told them that this was my first time here. The worker completely ignores me and says "anything else?" Then walks up to the register. YIKES!! I don't see this place here much longer with that kind of service and less than average food that's way too expensive. I'd rather spend six dollars for a premade sandwich, a bag of chips, a slurpee and a scratch-it at 7-11/a gas station. That was my first pita pit experience and shall be my last! Only time I would come back in is a last resort to use their bathroom!

I had never liked Pita Pit from back in my college days in AZ, it always seemed so bland and boring, but now I've found its a pretty decent lunch option under 400 calories! I've been enjoying the hummus pita with tzatziki and tons of veggies, it clocks in at only 330 calories and is super filling. Their vegetarian options are plentiful and you can build your pita in so many ways. I haven't had any issues with tearing or over-stuffing yet either so the staff must know their stuff. $5 seems like a good deal for these pitas as well.

So, generally speaking. I love pitas and Pita Pit ... but today's experience was a messy one. Don't get me wrong, I understand the lunch rush can be maddening for a restaurant staff, but whoa. I got there just in time to get at the front of what would become a pretty long line. Couple that with the fact that the person responsible for opening and stuffing the pitas couldn't really get them open (he broke three wheat pitas before finally getting one to work), and we had the beginnings of a disaster. Then, when adding the meat to my boyfriend's pita, the bread pocket ... well, it dissolved. I did get to watch an open-pita transplant, so that was pretty rad, and entertaining. But then my pita ripped as well. I guess I shouldn't be complaining. The fact that they're ripping means I'm getting a ton of stuff inside them, right? But still. Maybe I should have just asked for a fork. Either way, the food was still pretty delicious, and I've come to the conclusion that "when in doubt, add pineapple" is a good rule to live by. Also, feta cheese and BBQ sauce make a surprisingly delicious combination. If you're looking for an inexpensive way to eat semi-healthy, this is definitely a good option, but maybe you should try going in some of the off-hours so they're not quite as rushed.

When I went to Pita Pit for the first time, I thought that it is kind of like subway, but with a pita. After a couple of tries, it is way better. Their ingredients are fresher and they have more types to choose from. My favorite is the Philly cheese steak pita with some provolone, onions and green peppers. You can add more to it, but i think that is all that is meant to be on a Philly cheese steak. They have two different sizes, small and regular. I find that the small is just right to fill you up if you get chips and a drink. If you just want the pita, get the regular. The Pita Pit on 5th ave is right in the heart of PSU so it can be busy during the day with downtown workers and students coming in for lunch. The downside to this place is service can be slow sometimes when it is busy and I have had a couple encounters with not so friendly pita workers. The food is good though and I have yet to try a pita I didn't like.

I heart Pita Pit. I heart the other Pita Pit that everyone else seems to hate (I kill your hate hype as well, foo'z!). This example is larger and colder than the other one. It also seems cleaner but that might just be since it's newer. On its own merits, this place is... probably like every other Pita Pit on the planet. Decent meats, fresh veggies and morons in front of you in line taking way too long to decide if they want spinach or not.

I work at a hotel downtown and they deliver here, which is awesome! They are great taking orders and deliver quickly. I'm never disappointed when it comes to this location, the food is great and they are so helpful. I really recommend this place for lunch or a munchie hour, because you can load up on veggies and sauces.

Really? PSU, you failed with the customer service here. Really impersonal, the staff doesn't know how to stuff the pita right, and the portion size on the meat for the regular was ridiculosly small! I fell in love with the tasty pita from Pita Pit while attending OSU, open late night - bare minimum on carbs with lots of healthy veggies and a good amount of choices in meats. However, the one thing PSU's Pita Pit owns on OSU's is the option between a regular and a small (but the price? What's the point!). For some reason the white pita bread was more dry than most times so it broke easily. Most Pita Pits will replace the pita itself when torn, but they continued to stuff whatever I pleased. The gyros meat typically has 6 pieces, but they put 4; their excuse - changed meats. I guess it looked bigger and was sufficient, but they overcooked it way too much. The staff, especially the cashier pushed their point card on you without a kinder explaination ("all the information is on THIS card"). Maybe they receive points on how many they can pawn off to people? Overall, the place is nice - lots of space. The food was decent afterward, but the mere disappointment in customer service and the disappointing meat being overcooked and less than usual... I've experience better. C'mon PSU Pita Pit, get with it!

I like this place. The food is nothing all that remarkable, but the workstations seem clean, the staff is efficient, and they know how to handle drunks, which is comforting when there are several waiting in line in front of you. They also can make any of their pitas into salads, which is good for those watching their carb intake. A good quick and relatively cheap option, but nothing out of the ordinary food-wise.

It was food....I think. So baaad... I can try to justify or make excuses for them(like I went after the lunch rush), but SO not awesome. The food was hardly passable for food that you would want to pay money for (and I'm pretty pissed to have spent $7.30 for a SMALL combo), and they were out of ice and to-go bags(although they get a little credit for ingenuity and giving me a bag that the pita pockets come in). I'm probably lucky they weren't out of pitas altogether. It would have been one star, but the servers were really nice. I ordered the gyro thinking of the warm soft bread, creamy sauce and abundant meat of the gyro cart here on campus (between Neuberger and Smith), but what I got was a dry, store-bought pita stuffed with limp lettuce and tiny, sad meat that I had to search to find. Their tzatziki was probably cream cheese with cucumbers in it (not remotely authentic or delicious). The place was kinda sparse and dirty too, I opted to take my meal back to campus. Don't eat here, unless you revel in being extremely disappointed.

Pita Pit = Pocket "Subway" Eat Fresh? I understand that this joint is in the college area so expect shitty customer service, I know kids that work here probably hate their jobs and don't want to be there, but still you get paid to do what you do which is food service. This was my first time to Pita Pit, always want to try and after the gym tonight I thought hey Pita Pit let's get to know each other. I walked in, the girl behind the counter asked me what I would like to order without any smile. That's fine, I'm not smiley person either. I told her this is my first time and she just stared at me. She didn't offer to explain how it works, so I opened my mouth and asked her "So do I just order and choose my toppings and sauces?" She answered "Yup." Then she asked me which one I want and I said Turkey, Bacon, Avocado. She didn't ask what size do I want even though they have two sizes on the menu board. I told her I want small and she told me that small is like kid size and showed me the small pita bread which is about 5" or 6" after they fold the pita. Whose kids will be able to eat that size of food? Must be a giant 4 years old. I told her I stick with small for $5.70. Then the other guy helped me to create my pita pit. He grabbed the pita and opened the pocket. I thought neat! Then he asked what toppings I wanted. After I chose my toppings and sauces, I thought this is exactly like Subway. They have most Subway toppings and sauces. I thought oh well, maybe it will better than Subway since this is Pita Pit and cost more than that subs place. I took a bite out of my Turkey, Bacon, and Avocado pita and I was disappointed. Not only because it tasted like subs but in burrito or rolled pita form, but it's also because the pita is kinda stale. I don't understand why they can't heat up the pitas even though they have grill where they cook the meat. Anyway, I think this place is overrated, over priced especially considering it's at PSU area. I guess the only good thing is that they open until 3 am everyday except Sunday. Just for that I guess I can be generous and give it two stars.

Close to PSU, open until 3am and while its a chain, they do a decent job of deciphering drunken slur. I had the benefit...er...misfortune of going here after a night out. They handled my order without issue and I was a happy person. Always quick, attentive and polite. While this is a chain, I am giving it 4 stars. Compared to the other chains in the area, this one is worth eating at.

My ex and I always ordered from this Pita Pit when he was staying late at school. It was very nice that they were willing to deliver to the building we studied in. There was one time when his phone was on silent (I always told him putting his phone on silent was STUPID when he has a girlfriend and/or he's expecting a delivery) and the nice Pita Pit delivery person could not reach us. I was furious with my then-boyfriend and a little peeved at the Pita Pit people when they wouldn't come back, even when I offered to tip generously. We never ordered Pita Pit together after that, so I never found out if they blacklisted us...Well, if they blacklisted my ex. We used his phone number for all our orders.

I was a diehard Pita Pit junkie in Eugene when I attended UO -- the drunchies have never felt healthier. Any delivery you can get at 2:40 in the morning is a great delivery. As Leo said, the older Pita Pit closer to central downtown is in an awkward location, and I've never tried it. It was to my outrageous joy that a Portland State Pita Pit opened a couple months ago! It's a bit bigger than the Eugene location (and with fewer drug addicts giving you the eye and robbing you repeatedly...yes, I'm quite spiteful), and not nearly as dark and creepy -- both major plusses, of course. My first round with this Pita Pit was on a Sunday evening. I was working at 60th and Foster -- no, not on the corner, ha ha -- and I didn't get my meal until 9:30. Not knowing the area well, I pondered for a moment. Where to get my dinner at 9:00 on a Sunday night? Do I go fast food? No, I'll just regret it later. Do I wander into a Muchas Gracias and hope for the best? Um, hell no. Then it hits me -- Pita Pit! Yes, I'm 60+ blocks and a bridge away, but it's open! I sped down Foster, my 30 minutes ticking. Fortunately, it being a Sunday night, I was able to get there and park with relative ease. I'm not a vegetarian, but I always go with a hummus pita -- spinach, romaine, banana peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, feta and tzatziki. A giant pita for $5? Works for me. Now, if only I didn't live 15 miles away...it sounds good now.

The gyro.. don't get it. It wont taste anything like a gyro should taste like. There is a TIP jar, that says "pita spell backwards is?" Service can be fast or slow depending on the time of the day. I have to say that usually only one person does it all. My personal favorite is the pulled pork. Hugeee pita, chips and drink for only 6.99! The downside is that it is in downtown so I see homeless people using their restrooms.. be aware.

Definitely not the best falafel pita I've ever had. I found the falafel to be dry and way too salty. The prices are somewhat cheap, but there are definitely other, better places in town to go to.

Screw Subway! The pita pit is a great place to get a quick, healthy bite to eat. Their falafel is delicious and they have a huge array of veggies and interesting sauces. You can really get creative here. Prices are fantastic and customer service is good. I'm a fan.
