I really do like Kwang Chow Restaurant. The service their is very friendly and they do enjoy their jobs. The egg rolls are to die for and I love the Chicken Almond Clow Mein. My wife craves the won tons with the sweet and sour red sauce, she always gets extra sauce when she goes and puts it on everything! Very good value for a family or a bunch of friends. Great take out service!

we go here from time to time, its your basic cheap American bad Chinese food, its not really authentic, but for this type of food (which for some reason i like) its in my top 3 in town... the staff is always friendly never had any bad experiences, bring cash because they don't accept credit cards which i do not understand i noticed a ton of NSF checks on the wall and i am sure they have lost more in NSF checks then the CC charges over time, as a business owner this boggles me......

The food is average. The combos are priced higher than they should be. But they were kind and the service was fast.

Service was great! This is Americanized Chinese food and that is what I came for. It was delicious. I will be back soon!

Some of these one-star reviews have me in stitches. Come on, people, you're on Southeast King Road, a branch of the sleaze artery that is 82nd Avenue, across the street from an OfficeMax and some dingy apartments...what did you expect, Judy Fu's Snappy Dragon? Kwang Chow isn't some hidden gem serving up brilliant, quirky gourmet bites for "civilized" foodies and their hipster satellites. That's not the crowd they cater to. Here, you will be served geological portions of delicious, sloppy, MSG-laden American Chinese grub that will leave you overstuffed and clearing your throat for hours. Don't forget to smother everything in that magical red sauce; it's a necessary flavor enhancer. As far as I'm concerned, that's all just part of the greasy Chinese food experience. In a nutshell (or fortune cookie), there's nothing terribly remarkable about Kwang Chow, and that's just how I like it. Just good food, and they're open late.

OK, talk about OLD SCHOOL Americanized Chinese food...I swear it was so old school that I could hear "Kung Foo Fighter" playing in the background. Seriously, now to the review. I can not (for the life of me) understand how anyone could give this place anything over 2-stars. You can not rate a place on service alone. Our waitress was fine. She came, gave water, took order, brought food, brought bill and that was it. That is her job. She wasn't super friendly, she wasn't awful either...just standard. I can't even understand WHY I stayed to eat. Probably because I had 2 hungry kids and a crank old lady with me...The little old lady LIKES old school Chinese, too! I haven't seen egg rolls rolled like the ones here since 1974! The spring roll was anything but springy! The filling in both rolls was like they had scraped the leftovers off someone's plate and stuff the egg/spring rolls with it! They don't even bring any sweet & sour with the appetizer plate. The BBQ pork was grey and lifeless (both in flavor AND color!). The fried shrimp & rolls were swimming in grease. My kids only like white rice when we have Chinese (can't really screw THAT up!) and egg flower soup. The soup was typical egg flower soup - nothing special. The Pork Chow Mein was gross! Seriously had NO flavor and the ground pork was super dry. I guess it was a good thing the rest of the Chow Mein was swimming in sauce. The (limited) veggies that were inside were limp and lifeless, too! The crispy noodles (which the old lady LOVES!) seemed and tasted stale. Even the fortune cookies sucked. They tasted like gasoline (I'm not kidding!!!) and 2 of the cookies had 1/2 a fortune inside...Now that's just plain sad!! The restaurant was dingy and dark. The floors were filthy and it looks like the décor hasn't changed in 30 years!! The bathroom was disgusting! I mean REALLY D-I-S-G-U-S-T-I-N-G! Anybody remember (back in the day) when they used to hang those pink or green "deodorizer" from the side of the toilet bowl??? You know, the ones that reeked of moth-ball smell? Yeah...Now you remember...Well, this place smelled just like a urinal with that nasty moth-ball smell!!! AND you could smell that smell BEFORE you even got to the bathroom! No toilet seat covers either. This place doesn't accept anything but cash. That's right - no debit - no credit! In a nutshell, I left with a gut AND butt bomb ready to explode. Needless to say, I will never be eating here again. To the other reviewers...SERIOUSLY, EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS and YOUR PALATES! THIS PLACE IS NOT GOOD and NEVER WILL BE!!! ****Question for my fellow Yelpers and Foodies: Is there a GREAT CHINESE restaurant in Portland area??? If so, PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT IT!!! I am dying for some GREAT CHINESE food!!!****

This place was out of some horror movie! All the food we ordered was greasy. We ordered shrimp and it was not even cleaned. When I showed the waitress she just shook her head. This is the worst restaurant I've ever been in. Do not go here, your hdl/ldl will jump 100 points! Stay away.

First impressions; Friendly service and flavorful tea. I ordered fried shrimp and had a choice of steamed rice or pork fried rice, i went for fried rice. My date ordered kung pao chicken with steamed rice in a small cup of hot and sour soup. She said she's had better soup but it was good. Back stepping, the restaurant was fairly busy Friday evening just before 7pm. There were booths available. This is an old place, but well kept up and very clean on our visit. Back to our meals. Kung pow chicken was very flavorful fresh with a little bit of heat but not burn your face off. (I tried it, and I'm a wussy when it comes to hot stuff) My date did comment, "There is an awful lot of celery here." She later commented, "There isn't a lot of chicken, but what there is was dark meal, tender and good." The shrimp, all 15 pieces, were actually very good, firm and fresh tasting, a little bit greasy, but what do you expect, they were FRIED. A good proportion of shrimp to batter. They took the shrimp tails off, shame, because I love fried shrimp tails. Pork fried rice needed a dash of soy sauce to liven it up. The red sauce at the table was too runny and the mustard was tummy. My fortune cookie read, "Your lucky number for this week is nine." (that's kind of an odd fortune) Would we come back, yes.

Got takeout with a friend. This is your standard Americanized Chinese fare in a dump of a building but I think what sets it apart is the owners. They know people by name and are very prompt. I didn't find it overly greasy as some have mentioned, however it leads me to believe this place may be hit or miss. This is good for exactly what it is and prices vs. portion are great.

I always pass this restaurant as it's right down the street from my house, so decided to give it a try one night. I couldn't find much as far as a menu goes online, and I don't think they have a website, so I called in and ordered the most standard Chinese fare I could think of - General Tso's Chicken, Crab Puffs & Egg Rolls. My food was ready quickly but as soon as I walked in the door, my heart filled with dread as I noticed all of their "NO CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED!" signs. "Oh no," I thought, "please, if there is a God, let me have enough cash on me to afford everything I just ordered." A heavenly light began to shine upon my purse and I was mercifully able to afford my bill and leave a whopping $0.55 tip after emptying out every crevice of my wallet. I'm not sure if it was the feeling of shame that I left with after giving such a poor tip (even for a to-go order), or just generally mediocre food, but I wasn't particularly impressed with any of my order. My standards aren't high for a Chinese place just off 82nd, but I'm not sure that the food even met my admittedly low expectations. Suggestion to business: let people calling in for to-go orders know that you don't accept credit cards. It's strange enough for a restaurant in 2015 to have that policy that you need to be proactive about letting customers know. Being able to access a website with your menu on it would be awesome, too, but I'm really reaching for the stars with that request.

The food was alright for a dingy Chinese place aside from the fact that there was a hair fried into one of the shrimp so we know it wasn't of ours. I was somewhat enjoying the meal until then. Lost my appetite and then some. I will definitely not be coming back. The inside is also old as hell and they don't take debit or credit. You must use the atm and be charged a fee. I don't recommend.

Crappy food for unreasonable prices. Also don't take cards whatsoever. Oh, and the workers are completely racist and rude. Will never go there ever again

Best. Egg rolls. EVER. Kudos for the late night hours, too! The food was great, the prices are fair, and the order was ready when my husband arrived to pick it up. The egg rolls are HUGE and soooo good! I doubt you will find a better egg roll anywhere in the area. Oh! Bonus points for bagging the food in plastic before putting it in the paper bag! There's nothing worse than picking up a bag of food when you get home and discovering that it leaked all over your car's seat or floorboard. No worries when it's bagged right! Other restaurants could learn from Kwang Chow! :)

I've been looking for decent Chinese food in the Portland area since I moved here from The Silicon Valley 4 years ago. This isn't it. We got take-out Low Mien and Kung Pao Chicken with fried rice, everything was a uniform shade of brown and was tasteless. I'm not expecting gourmet food at a small Chinese restaurant but I've had far better food from numerous steam table buffets, Kwang Chow's chow is barely edible. On the plus side the place looked clean and the people were friendly.

I LOVE Kwang Chow, been coming here since I was a kid. This place has been in business forever, so you know it's gotta be good. Best Chinese food in Milwaukie. Lots of food, greatly priced and delicious. Although their decor has not changed since they've been there, that's the only drawback to this restaurant, don't let it deceive you though.

Before I ever set foot on the plane I was told by my boyfriend that the first place we were going when we landed was Kwang Chow. He has been a frequent customer since childhood. We went with a large group of family and ordered more B for two's than I can fathom. Everything was delicios and the egg rolls are as big as my head... kind of. I'm sure this will be a spot I go to on every future Portland visit and I will not complain one bit.

I have been coming to this place since I was a kid! I live in Tualatin now and will still make a special trip to come here. Their egg rolls are something I crave on a regular basis and their egg flower soup is the best I've had anywhere. I love their chow mein and egg foo young too. Not a huge fan of the fried rice - I find it a little dry and flavorless. Yes, the decor is far from fancy, but it's clean. True comfort food to me. The lunch buffet is great too, but I usually just come for dinner because I like to be able to take leftovers home.

Kwang Chow's is local and has the best chinese in town. its the comfort food I crave since I've moved from Bend. The egg rolls are gooey goodness. The sweet red sauce with BBQ Pork it just always hit the spot. I appreciate the home cooked meal.

I absolutely LOVE this place. Years ago my husband and I always went to Lung Fung Restaurant until they closed. We started the search for something similar... and after many disappointing attempts we grudgly decided to give this place a try (we weren't impressed with it's looks from the outside). WoW! We have not regretted that decision. We finally found that replacement for Lung Fungs. Once in awhile (like 1 out of 10 times) we would have a less flavorful experience, but the other 9 times the food was VERY full of flavor. This is what I consider Americanized Chinese food, but it is the kind I have always had, and love.

Do you have a hankerin' for grease? In the mood for sticky plastic gingham tablecloths? Ever wanted to go to a Chinese restaurant with ketchup and mustard bottles on the tables as well as faux wood paneling on the walls? Have I got the place for you!! Kwang Chow is just gross.

I have dined at Kwang Chow many times and always leave happy. I came here last week with a hankering for delicious egg rolls and barbecue pork, and also ended up getting standards like pork egg foo yung, kung pao chicken and chicken lo mein. All the veggies were very fresh, the serving sizes were enormous, and the bill was about 35 dollars. What more could you want from a Chinese restaurant?

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
