bad customer service over an obvious glitch in their system. i will never order from this location again. dude, seriously, jimmy johns is all about delivery. the commercial led me to believe this. in actuality, they refused to deliver to my location which is 6 blocks away from the restaurant.. i should rat the guy out for being a lump, but i don't pick on people making min wage. b.s. if you can get a sandwich from them, it's great.

Working downtown, I generally try to avoid chain establishments for lunch. After all, there's so many great carts to choose from! But I'm a sucker for sandwiches, and of the chain sandwich shops, Jimmy John's reigns supreme in my book. The sandwiches are tasty, hearty, and often are ready before you've finished paying! Price-wise, they're in line with the rest of them, but something about the Jimmy John's flavor has me walking right past Subway and Big Town Hero to come back for more.

Was walking back to my hotel when I saw this place. Ended up getting a #17 the Ultimate Porker. It was very delicious and had no problem holding the mayo. While they have seventeen other options for sandwiches I would definitely get the Porker again. They made the sandwich faster than I have seen at Subway.

Faster than a speeding bullet...that's how quickly you'll get your sandwich at Jimmy John's. When I'm in need of a quick, good bite to eat, this is my go-to place. Often times I'm still paying when they're already calling my order for pick up. How is that even possible, especially when I placed a special order? Not only is the staff quick, they're friendly too. I'll certainly be back when my lunch break is cramped for time.

I love the JJ Gargantuan Unwich. It fills me up without loading up on carbs. I ordered my lunch on line today and 8 minutes later the delivery guy was at my door. Fantastic service. They'll be feeding me at the office more often.

For a chain they have a good product and a good price. The crew here was quick to help, quick to make it and quick to get me on my way. For a fast food place this is a good one.

Meh. I do like me a tasty sandwich for lunch. While I won't say JJ was bad, it was quite good, I will say that if you deviate from their menu at all, you'll get the icy, annoyed stare from person taking your order. I want my lunch experience to be quick and easy, and while I admit that I can be a picky sandwich eater, I don't like only having to be a pain in the ass to get what I want. As to the sandwiches, yes the bread is good, yes there's plenty of meat, but definitely not enough veggies for my preference. I'll stick with Subway or Big Town Hero.

Super friendly staff! And fast! This place was immaculate at the lunch rush, which is really hard to do. Tasty-beats the heck out of a Subway sandwich. It's not gourmet food, so if you don't have ridiculous expectations, you'll be pleased with a nice deli style sandwich, made accurate and fast. Bonus: if working downtown, they will deliver even one sandwich.

  • Buck G.

They say they deliver, but can't seem to deliver 2/3 of a mile away. I was half expecting my sandwiches when they called me that less than a mile is too far. I would never call this place again. Too strict of delivery rules.

Standard practice... enter Jimmy John's... order sandwich... just about to give a credit card and my sandwich is already done - wrapped - placed in my hands... GLORIOUS!!! People may try to avoid the chain mentality, but they still employ locals and serve up consistently tasty fare. I'm a big fan of keeping things simple. Sometimes I just don't want to journey to find a reliable lunch in P-town. Plus: SmartPark is right across the street. So here is the story morning glory: order the #4 Turkey Tom with Dijon Mustard (and/or ask for Yellow Mustard packets to be included).

Let me say this off the bat: if you are from the east coast or a place with great delis and sandwich shops, you are probably going to hate jimmy Johns. If you are against big gaming hunting or shooting elephants for sport, you are probably going to hate jimmy johns. But, if you like buttery soft French bread slathered in mayo and crammed with shredded lettuce with a side of meat, you are going to love jimmy johns. The subs in my opinion are more about the bread than the meat, and I enjoy the bread. My go to sub is the beach club with bacon and sauce, which comes with not only a half jar of Helmans mayo, but also a grotesque helpings of avocado spread which I have to believe is also made with mayo as the main ingredient. Let me reiterate: if you hate mayo or are more of a miracle whip kind of guy you are going to HATE this place.

i love the italian night club on wheat. my goto for probably a decade. and will probably be the same for the foreseeable future. but i went in this saturday (1/31/15) around 5pm to order a few sandwiches. i asked for one with salt and pepper, and the lady working said they didnt carry salt and pepper. are you serious? the 2 most basic spices?!?! she offered oregano as a replacement. seriously, wth? maybe they were messing with me, but either way, it just seems ridiculous. and to follow it up, i had ordered 3 sandwiches and 3 bags of chips. i asked for a bag and the girl just looked at me, said help yourself and walked off. very rude, and honestly surprised at the lack of service....especially considering i was literally the only customer in the place. thats all.

The Good: friendly staff. Clean restaurant. The Bad: the sandwiches. I really think you'd have to try hard to create a lower quality sandwich than Subway, but Jimmy Johns takes it. Whether it be the flavorless bread or the dependence on low quality condiments, all their sandwiches taste the same and that flavor is more suited for a child's simple palette. I've given them the benefit of the doubt, but after 4 visits now, they've disappointed every time. I'll neglect getting too off topic as well, but the founder of this chain is a despicable big game hunter, who has faced criminal charges for his practices as well. Though this is not specific to this one location, it's important for people to understand what they are supporting.

Tried to place an order tonight with a girl over the phone. She seemed new and I was very patient. I work in The customer service industry so I completely understand being new and don't mined waiting at all while she learns. However she was very rude. Didn't listen to my order and kept cutting my off to talk to people in the background. I really don't mind her taking her time but I do mind her lack of customer service. I ended up never being able to place my order and went with something else for dinner. I don't plan ordering from them again

Need a quick bite? You're going back to work or school? Are you looking for cheap and fast eats? Then stop going to McDonald's and grab a decent (health wise & taste) sandwich from jimmy's! You can get you protien low carb with lettuce rab! And its quicker than taking a piss! Haha!

This is Portland so, yes, opting for more local fare is popular and common. But in comparison with other sandwich chains - Subway, Quiznos, etc. - Jimmy John's really stands out. Their service is outstanding; oftentimes the employees are young teenagers, but they're always friendly and dependable, and better behaved than some adults I know! If you are lucky enough to be in the delivery area, you'll be blown away with how fast they are! I love that they offer 7-grain bread as well as the standard sub bread. My favorite is the #12, Beach Club: Turkey, provolone, avocado, cucumber, and tomato. TIP: Get ALL of the freebies! Onions, hot peppers, Dijon, oil & vinegar, oregano, and sprouts.

Simple, inexpensive, quality sandwiches, Jimmy John's delivers. Nice atmosphere and fast, friendly service. All the food carts in the area were swamped for lunch, so we decided to try Jimmy John's, over by the Central Library area. Colleen The Vinyl Queen got a Tuna Sub and I, Mark In The Dark, got a Turkey Sub, chips and 2 soft drinks. Our total... about $14. CoLLeen's Tuna Sub was cool, with cucumbers, sprouts, tomato and lettuce. My Turkey Sub was quality turkey, lettuce, tomato, mayo. The bread stood out, it is really fresh and tasty, reminded me of how special the bread used to seem at SubWay, back in the day. The chips and soft drinks were basic. You know how at SubWay they have maybe 1, 2 or three people working? At Jimmy John's they had about 6 people. Stuff moved fast. I've been checking their menu online, already planning my next visit! There are many choices and extras available.

I would really rate this 3.5 stars. First of all when you order your sandwich you will get your order faster than you can say sandwich. The food is on the pleasant side of standard. The jalepeño chips are great. Big negative for me is no toilet seat covers in the bathroom are offered and I find that pretty gross. I improvised but I feel like that should be a standard item offered in a bathroom.

What is it about those JJBLTs that make 'em so doggone good? The club LuLu is another classic (turkey-n-bacon), sublime in its simplicity. The gigando deli pickles are an excellent complement. The Ultimate Porker is even better heated, and the Gargantuan leaves neither appetite nor dignity standing in its wake. Don't forget to order hot peppers on the side! They whip up large group orders so very fast, and will even deliver within a reasonable radius! So take that, Quiznos! En Garde, subway! The competition just got way tougher, eh?

Worst Jimmy John's I've ever been to. Staff has a lot of bad attitude coupled with zero customer service skills. You couldn't pay me to come back here!

  • Ashley S.

I've been to jimmy johns probably 50 times. Today was my worst experienceI work and I wasn't even there! I work in a corporate office building downtown where jimmy johns delivers and there's this one gal that I've seen dozens of times that just cuts everyone off when she's on her bike. It doesn't matter if it's a car or pedestrian. Well that's her problem if she gets hit or yelled at. Then when 10 people were waiting to get on an elevator today at about 12:30 she sprints into the elevator to be first when she was running down the hall and everyone else that works in the building was being polite to let the first comers get on. When she should've been last and who runs down a hall/stairway? How do you not know those common manners? Well jimmy johns should teach those apparently, because her parents didn't.

Let me say I love JJs so it breaks my heart to give it 3 stars but this location prepared my Turkey Tom with stale bread. Not even the beautiful view at Director Park could ease my disappointment.

Its a hundred degrees outside, and the last thing I want to do is cook dinner! That's why I love Jimmy Johns! The sandwiches are great (and of course, fast) but its the little things keeping it from getting 5 stars. I don't get off work til 9pm, and when I call at 9:30, half the time they're already closed, even though its supposed to be open until 10. Also, because its the end of the night, the bread is always stale. I'm talking rock hard. If they could fix those things, it'd be 5 stars all day long!

  • Alex D.

But more like 2.5 I'm getting over Subway, so it would be great to have a great alternative that would put Jared to shame. After trying this place, I'm still waiting. I give them points for baking their bread fresh, but their menu is so boring and unremarkable. If you aren't going to be creative with your menu, you'd better do the things you do offer better than anyone else. Jimmy John's does not do the things they do better than anyone else. The sandwich itself is just fine. There's a little too much mayo, and you can find better ingredients elsewhere. Just not worth the money. There's not that "it" factor that keeps you coming back. People rave about this place, but I see it as spectacularly marginal.

Sandwiches were not that good at all. Bread tasted like 2 days old. Normally I have no issue with Jimmy Johns. Never going to this location ever again. I am sticking to the Tanasbourne location.

Worst Jimmy Johns I have ever been to. If your expecting meat in your sandwich, think again. I had 1 slice of Turkey in my sandwich. Might as well be a veggie shop. Talk about cheap.

Okay, I had never heard of Jimmy John's before... but... now, I have. And, I'm looking forward to the one day they open up in LA! Was flirting with hunger for a few hours debating if I could wait til the morning to eat and/or munching on a lot of snacks (and sugar...) in my hotel room... then got urgently desperate to find a delivery option nearby that was open on a Sunday evening. Jimmy John's popped up first and though I don't LOVE vegan/veggie sandwiches, the reviews were pretty good and (duh) they were still open, so I took the plunge. My sandwich (Veggie Club on whole wheat with extra lettuce, no cheese, no mayo, with a pickle) says "World's Greatest Gourmet Sandwiches" and TBH I don't know if that's exactly what they are... like, THE GREATEST? That's a pretty tall claim! BUT, they really did give extra lettuce, the bread was pretty yummy/soft, and they got my order exactly right. I did think it was a pretty solid sandwich and that quick delivery? LOVE IT. I think from receiving the order confirmation in my inbox to when he knocked on my door with my sandwich is was TEN MINUTES. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! in LA, I don't know what I would have to do or pay to get something to my door in ten minutes. AMAAAAZING. (Quick note: $3 minimum, but that's pretty much a like, please-don't-be-ridiculous-and-ask-us-to-deliver-you-soda. Anyone ordering an actual sandwich can get free delivery.) A great option for delivery and/or just a good ol' fashioned sandwich.

I had the Turkey Tom sub and I loved it! I work downtown and they delivered it so quick it blew my mind. They took only four minutes, the delivery guy was really nice and their overall quality is magnificent! I recommend these guys over subway any day!

I saw these all over the place when I was in Seattle a while ago. It took me a bit to drag my ass down here and the result: A-Ok. I got the #16, Club Lulu. The French bread was hard, the bacon tasted like the kind of chopped bacon that you find next to the salad dressings, which isn't a bad thing, I'll eat that shit off a spoon. Everything else was good. The veggies were crunchy, the fountain has Mello Yello. The staff is FAST. I got my sandwich like thirty seconds after I ordered. I was greeted when I came in but I spent so long staring at the board they all went back to work. Oops. I'll be back I suppose. Even with all the Horatio Alger nonsense on the walls.

These folks are trying hard and I love that. They have come to my downtown office not once but twice offering everybody free sandwich samples, tempting us to sample their new location a few blocks away. And every time they come the whole office lights up. Ham and cheese! Turkey and sprouts! Gimme one! So here and there I remember to go to their spot for lunch and I gotta say I am always satisfied. The service is the absolute fastest lunchtime service I have ever seen downtown. They are pushing out sandwiches constantly. Even if there is a line, it moves fast. It helps that the menu is simple and that you can't go wrong with anything on it. Great bang for your buck. And they have a place to sit too, if you wanna hang out there.

After several months of being in the Portland area, they still only deliver in very limited areas. I don't know what the problem is, but it does not inspire me to want to give them a chance at redemption by checking out their delivery service and perhaps upping their rating by a star.

    (2)
  • Keith H.

I got the gargantuan and I wasn't too impressed. It was big, but definitely not big enough to be called the gargantuan. The sandwich lacked a lot of flavor as well. I'm giving 3 stars because it super fast and it was better than most sandwich shops in the area.

    (3)
  • Rini S.

Just ordered my sandwich and I'm eating it now. I asked to have it cut in half. It's whole. I asked for mayo packets on the side. I didn't get any. I asked for very light lettuce. Got a ton of lettuce. No napkin. But the sandwich is bomb.

I know it's a chain. I know it's a chain. I know it's a chain. But I can't help it. And the staff at every location in Portland (trust me, I go to ALL of them, and maybe some of the ones in Vancouver too) are super helpful. This makes a difference. There's nothing worse than a chain store with zombie workers. But you won't find any of that here. Nope. I was on vacation for two weeks out of the country, and I caught myself regularly thinking about Jimmy Johns. Like the dog that I had to leave behind because I couldn't take her on the airplane, I missed it. I missed Jimmy Johns. I'm a huge fan of the #12 and the #4. But I usually customize the #4 into a #12, and I save a few cents, and a couple hundred calories. Don't forget the peppers! Yup. Jimmy Johns is my place. I don't know what I did before Jimmy Johns. The end.

Just like any other location. The service was fine and so was the food. I did like that they have cherry coke available.

I was walking around downtown and wanted to pick up some quick sandwich. It was okay. Nothing too special, but certainly better than something i would get from subway. I really don't have a huge review to give. Its certainly just a standard sub-shop. But a step above others.

  • Bartek K.

Limited menu of freshly made sandwiches. You're already very familiar with the concept having a Subway, Quiznos and Big Town Hero nearby. What makes JJ's different is mostly their bread. It's just French bread with the guts taken out. Their goal is to make your sandwich in about 30 seconds with average ingredients. They don't make hot sandwiches. They do deliver which might be a factor for you. They also cater. The service is boisterous and loud. The atmosphere is a little hipster with alt rock playing in the background at a slightly too loud level. It's worth checking out but in the end it was just a sandwich comprised of processed deli meats and cheeses.

Oh my gosh, downtown delivery. It was SO FAST. I don't know how they did it. The food was pretty good, too. Not the BEST as far as vegetarian options go, but tasty nonetheless.

They always greet you with a warm welcome. The food is great and you can even do a little wifi action while you eat. Hit em up while you are out and about downtown.

I love you Jimmy John's. I rocked you thrice weekly in Chicago and now my sandwich addiction can be fulfilled in Portland. Top 3 reasons to check it out: 1. Hot peppers-ask for them 2. 50 cent delivery fee to my office. YES 3. It tastes like real food.

  • Derek V.

Talk about fresh, Jimmy John has some of the freshest sandwiches around. Why go to subway and choose from their small variety of sandwiches which may I say are not very fresh or appetizing, when you can go here and pay just a few bucks more and choose from a very large selection and even receive an even better sandwich.
