I go there with my son at least once a week to eat. Their food is amazing, and everyone is so friendly. We love all their food always fresh and hot.

They need to retire the old lady from their staff. She's extremely rude and unpleasant. Wouldn't even get us a straw when we asked multiple times. Finally another waiter (not ours) brought us straws. I ask for some more sauce to dip my egg rolls into and she rolls her eyes at me. Finally I get the sauce I tell her thank you and she looks at me says "HeH" and grunts. F**k you too.

I used to go here when I was a kid 15 years ago and it was a nice place to go and eat. Now the place looks like a dump. You would think the owners would do some renovation on the building. Food has also gone downhill. Last time I was here it literally felt like my arms were sticking to the tables. Bottom line....building needs better up keep and food would come along with it.

We had such a good dinner here! On vacation visiting my boyfriend's family we came here for a birthday dinner. They blocked off the whole back room, un-asked, and gave us great service. The food was awesome. Nothing fancy or different- just good food. If I lived in Portland I'm sure I would be there often!

The best and freshest Chinese food I've eaten. Great drinks too. The service is fast and friendly. Fun patrons.

This is your typical Americanized Chinese food restaurant. 4 stars for Chu's, nothing spectacular but everything you would expect, nothing less, nothing more. The food is good, prices are good, I usually get to-go but every time I have dined in I have had great service.

How disgusting, the food was so terrible. The ole' gal serving us was the worst, no personality whatsoever. How do they stay in business?

The service was great and food was good the only thing I didn't like was the food wasn't very hot. The soup was actually almost cold... But cheap and it filled me up! $28 for 3 ppl!

No doubt, some of the best Chinese I have ever had. My boyfriend's family has been coming here for years, and I can see why. Great good. My favorite is the shrimp and veggies, but the cashew chicken and orange chicken are VERY good.

Not a fancy place, but good Chinese food and service at a low price. I've been going to Chu's for years and have never had a bad experience.

More like 3.5 stars, the crab puffs here are money, the fried shrimp is good. The rice is about as bad as it gets, though. They lost a lot of their value they had going for them with the new menu price updates, I think the lunch menu went from about $5.75 to near the $7 range, which isn't great value for the quality or compared to other Chinese food lunch prices. The new price change doesn't reflect in the quality of the food, except for the crab puffs. The staff is very friendly, especially the girl that handles the to-go orders around lunch. She has been there for a long-time.

Not too shabby. Needed a place to grab a quick bite to eat with my Dad. Stopped in and ate a quick lunch. For $6.75 we got the usual spread (Egg roll, won tons, soup and a combo plate) and great service. Nothing really exciting to write about as far as far as the food or restaurant. Just your typical Chinese Food joint.

I'm so surprised many found this place so good. I only went there once for lunch, it was 2 years ago; right about time we moved to our new house a few blocks away from this joint; and was super excited to find a Chinese food restaurant so close to home...therefore the lunch. We ordered the usual: Kung pao chicken, fried rice, and my husband got the combination. Which, I don't remember. Price wasn't bad as I recall, but when I took a bite into the food, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED with the taste, not the freshness, or size per se. Yah, I cook the way the cook made the food, it even tastes the same way I'd make it at home! :( I'm not 'real' Chinese (mixed with other ethnicity and I grew up in another Asian Country so def. not a real Chinese person), and my at-home cooking experience of Chinese food is amateur at best. But I've had many traveling experience to China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and enjoy their cuisine that I know what I usually expect. I also frequent many Chinese restaurants in town (some of them I've not reviewed yet) and have had better ones, I know what I expect out of Portland's Chinese restaurants. For me Chu's was a sore disappointment because I want to love it so bad (well, we'd love take-outs!)

This place needs to be shut down. I grew up in this rough and tumble neighborhood so ive been to this place a few times each time thinking it would be better...wishful thinking. The restaurant is dirty and smells like mildew. The food is gross the sweet and sour sauce tastes like soap.the staff are racist towards anyone who isnt white. Our waitress was clumsy or had an attitude that would cause her to bang and throw our food at us.maybe she hates her job whatever but I know Im not the only one who thinks this place stinks since there were 2 bullet holes on our booth window.im shocked this place has more than one star.

My family has been coming here for a long time, love it. Their number is saved on my phone, this is the go to take out when I don't want to cook. My family is never sad to see me walk in the door with a box full. Great prices, friendly staff. Kinda weird to say but their red sauce is my favorite of any Chinese restaurant. Of course the food I dip in it is good too.

Best Chinese I've ever had!! Best crab puffs ever. Food is great. Service is great. One lady been there forever loves kids very friendly! Last night service was slow to order but knew its be worth the wait. Generals chicken and Kung Pow are so yummy. I could live off crab puffs and spring rolls. I love Chu's. I've tried other places and always waste my money. Always pleased when we leave!!

The best in SE!!! Honestly, you would never guess!! this is the best! We live in lower SE so we either go downtown to one other place or here!! Very worth the drive! YES it does average $10 per person(without tip) with leftovers if you order family style like we do.

We haven't been to a good Chinese restaurant in a long time and this is in our neighborhood. EVERYTHING we ordered was hot, fresh, and delicious. We will def go back.

Where do the real working men and women in Southeast Portland go to eat, drink, dance and sing? Here. It's the neighborhood bar with a very low 'meat market' quotient. The food is good. The bartenders are fun and personable. Singing and dancing allowed on weekends only unless someone decides to play music and start dancing during the week. Competition for karaoke is stiff, but everyone is allowed to sing unless you're stringing the cat. Frequent guests become extended family members or part of a large neighborhood. Like other bars, occasionally we are treated to meth heads who stumble in with severe twitches. But that's real Portland with real people away from the limelight.

Okay, this is going to be a long one. Buckle up and get ready for a crazy ride. We went here for my friends suprised birthday party. We rented out the banquet room for her party. The waitress started out being a little flustered and annoyed with us, which I understand, we were a party of about 20 people, so we definately made a ruckus. The waitress forgote a few drink and appetizer orders. Which happens. There was an aweome high school boy who was super polite and sweet and really helpful. And the bartender Danny was really awesome. Knew the family and was giving us strong drinks. And delicious drinks. Anyway, as they were passing out the soup, the waitress dumped a bowl of hot scalding soup on a 9 month old kid and his aunt who was holding her. The poor boy started screaming and we took of his clothes so it would not continue to burn him. Although it was an accident, what happened afterward was rediculous. The manager never came out to say anything to the couple who's son was scalded by the soup. We even asked to talk to the manager, and she refused to come out. The lack of professionalism was rediculous. We did not want to get the waitress fired or even free food, the parents just wanted the manager to show that she was aware of the situation and to try and help out. The main dishes came out, someone ordered chickn fried rice and got a noodle dish with a different meat in it. Drink orders were wrong. The restaurant did not have a first aid kit, and the bartender went out of his way to buy anti burn spray for the little boy and offered to call us an ambulance. The other staff gave us ice, but besides that nothing was done. My food was decent, crab puffs were really good. Broccoli beef is okay. Chowmein is kind of bland, but did have alot of different things in it. One of the members ended up getting food posioning from their food. Overall it was a bad time.

DISGUSTING. Typical, no wait, below typical. Orange sauces (what IS that stuff??), dry, overcooked dishes, big chunks of onion and peppers. YUCK. This is NOT Chinese food. What is wrong with you people?? Learn to cook. And at least don't call this stuff Chinese food because it in no way, shape or form resembles Chinese food.

I went there one hung over morning (ahem.. afternoon) on a road-trip to Portland. I ordered the salt and pepper squid, which was a little too dry for my taste so I asked them to toss it in some kung pao sauce - very tasty combination. If I'm ever back around that part of Portland I will definitely come back (hopefully this time it won't be after pulling an all-nighter...).

YUCK! This is by far the worst Chinese food I have ever had. I've lived in this area for a good half of my life and this was my first time there and my last. Service was not bad but the food was gross and over sauced. Mongolian beef was basically beef, onions and oyster sauce--the beef was swimming in it. The noodles in the house pan fried noddle was stir fry noodles. Even the fortune cookies were stale. I know that this place is not an authentic Chinese restaurant but seriously panda express is better than this. Sorry Chu's eatery I will not be coming back.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
