It has been 4 years, time for an update: We stopped by for lunch today right before they were closing. Hubby and I chose Kung Pao, he chose chicken and I chose shrimp. The hot and sour soup that came with our lunch special was very good, not quite as tangy as I like but overall very good. The Kung Pao Shrimp and Chicken came with a bunch of zucchini, green bell peppers (which I despise), and water chestnuts and a shit ton of peanuts. The meal was mostly the above, and mine had about 6 nice size shrimps. It was delicious and had that ginger taste we have been looking for and the right consistency and color of the sauce. My only gripe is that Kung Pao should have three things, protein, peanuts and green onions, that is it. Hubby said if he had been really hungry it would not have been enough (he only eats a tiny bit of rice), but for around six bucks for lunch it is a hell of a deal. Next time I shall get a dinner portion and try the pot stickers. The only thing keeping it from a 5 star is the general run down appearance of the place both inside and outside and all the kitchy stuff scattered around.

This is a review for breakfast only. I'd driven by the sign for American breakfast at a Chinese restaurant any number of times. I imagined it would be a greasy spoon sort of option, a couple eggs and potatoes for a few bucks. Turns out it is an expensive menu with aspirations. Those aspirations are 'tis sad to say, not met. The place itself attracts middle aged and older men, half sitting by themselves in a mostly empty room. The decor--well a picture may describe better than words so please see attached. Sort of like a 1990's Entry level Chinese banquet hall that used to serve the San Francisco wedding market where it was de rigueur to feed several hundred family members with quantities of food aimed to subdue the body with numbing lethargy. I ordered the salmon hash. The potatoes were pallid with that repurposed leftovers twang that is such a personal pet peeve. The hash was at best lukewarm, which at thirteen dollars is not exactly acceptable. The full meal with coffee and a 16% tip came to eighteen smackers. While my server was prompt and pleasant, I still left with the feeling that I had been subjected to a shake down just on the north side of the law.

Only came here to grab a drink and happen to come during their siesta hour (off time between lunch and dinner). No biggie, the lounge was still open. Golf was on the TV and it sounded like there were a bunch of golf enthusiast enjoying a couple rounds of beers. I must say, listening to golfers talk landscape is completely different from your regular landscape conversation. I knew there was different kinds of grass but I didn't know know what certain grass can make the ball go faster, slower, etc. The drinks were strong. The space is your typical Chinese restaurant lounge. There is no Chinese food available during siesta but there are still other food items on the menu if you're really hungry. There is video poker in the back and the bathroom is in the restaurant side of the place. The outdoor patio is covered and quite nice. It has a large flat screen TV for those that want to drink, smoke, and socialize. There is even a little room off to the side where one can sit, drink, and watch TV. I learned that this little room was for the colder months and is like the warming room. Cool! I'm not going to lie, I had very low expectations. I am pleased to say that it wasn't as bad as I thought. I would definitely come here again for a drink or two.

It is a one of a kind place. They serve an American breakfast, and then at 11am it transitions to a decent Chinese restaurant. The service is attentive and friendly. I've been here many times on Saturday morning. All of their breakfast entrees are wonderful. Especially Frankie's Hash, which really feeds 2 people if you are normal. Their coffee is good stuff, and I love the omelettes too.

Take out order. We had broccoli beef, general tsao's chicken and pork fried rice. Overall, we had enjoyed the food. Our favorite is the broccoli beef which is better than most places. Least favorite is the rice, not much taste. We ordered General tsao's chicken based on the review here. The quality of the chicken is good, not too much breading, but super saucy. Not really our cup of tea, but perhaps for others. We don't usually order American Chinese dishes like these, but pregnancy craving won last night. We will go back, but will probably order more traditional dishes.

Ok so I'm not big into Chinese food but the food here was delicious. The staff is super friendly and nice.

Success! I had to meet the girlfriends parents for the first time. I needed the food to be good as a distraction; if the food is good I too am likely going to be seen as good. The host was funny and offered to let me pay (I'm hella broke) but the dad was like, "I've got it" (phew! That was close) The food was great! I ate with chopsticks and felt cultured. The Mongolian beef was how I remembered from my childhood, very good. I found a lucky cat statue with whiskers! Attached photo.

I'm kind of torn here as I'd like to say it's a 3.5 star but overall the food was just ok, although the General Tso's chicken was by far the best dish we tried and it was done just right. We also had the wor won ton soup, mixed vege, and ma po tofu, all of them being just ok but maybe for Portland they would be 4 star considering how lacking we are for good Chinese food around here. The owner is a nice guy if a bit quirky with his odd humor but I liked that part of the experience. The atmosphere kind of suck though, it's super bright and too quiet, feels like a diner so maybe it's a better place for breakfast food. We'll come back again and try a few more things to be sure and if you just want decent Chinese you could do far worse in these parts.

Chinese food in this town is different. It's not east coast Chinese and for some reason it's not really that good. This town is successful with every other type of Asian cuisine but how is this one overlooked?? Where is my day glow Egg Drop Soup???? Why am I stuck with Egg Flower Soup? Where are the good spare ribs with sticky red sauce and the always funny Pu Pu platter? Well, I was out in the Beaverton area with friends and he told me that China Delight was pretty close to east coast Chinese food and that he really enjoyed it. Ok, works for me, off we go. No Egg Drop Soup. Bummed. But we did get some really good potstickers. No sweet chili sauce though. They had a nice lemongrass sauce that went with them and it was decent. We ordered a chicken dish and Orange beef. A simple classic. We ordered white and brown rice and I assumed we'd get a small bowl each, nope, we each got a large steamer full of rice. Wow. The Orange beef was actually really good with the exception that the slices of beef were huge, not bite sized. The chicken dish was good but there wasn't a lot of chicken in there and way too many water chestnuts and very little green onions. So basically the meal was hit and miss. Not the best, but better than some of the other places I've been to over the past year and change. It was odd that they sat us in the bar area. Some rather loud, drunk regulars were there, so that was different. The bartender apologized to us in her own way. She was helpful. As I said the place was hit or miss. Would I go back? Maybe, but I'd try some items that had more veggies and more chicken in them.

We went back on Friday (8/1) and once more, fab service and food! This time I got the combo plate with General Tsao Chicken, Noodles & Fried Rice. My husband got BBQ Pork as an appetizer and for his main he ordered Broccoli Beef. Everything was delicious and we got some leftovers. Bruce is such a funny guy. If you are in a bad mood or had a hard week and need a pick me up, go to China Delight.

Not only is the service from staff amazing, the food is not the "Americanized" version of Chinese food. When ordering make sure to ask for "ORIGINAL sweet & sour Chicken or pork", this order doesn't get you the chicken or pork pieces with a deep fry batter life vest bobbing in a red dye candied soup version; instead it's lightly dusted with a tempura batter and lightly coated (but not saturated) with the brown sweet & sour sauce (as it should be). A lot of food we have come accustom to being in batter with the "Americanized" version, here it's stripped down to the simplicity and amazing taste of how it should be. Hands down one of my favorite's.

First time here and got take out-potsticker s and pork fried rice. Good was excellent and the "Welcome Home" when you enter was quite endearing. I'll be back for sure!

General Tso's to go for lunch 5/5! The man at the counter was friendly and funny. I'm taking my parents here next time they're in town.

I was very underwhelmed by the food. Over breaded fried shrimp, which was also greasy, and the rest of the food was just forgettable. Not horrid, but nothing I'd go back for. The breakfast was very good. Friendly service, good sized portions, and really good food. So I'll go back for breakfast, but keep searching for my Chinese food.

  • Sandy N.

Ordered Kung Pao Prawns, General Tso's chicken and pot stickers. Kung Pao was lacking flavor and spice. General Tso's was the best item of the 3. Lots of peppers present but the spice wasn't really there. The sauce was tasty though. The pot stickers were very doughy but the insides were ok. Soy sauce definitely helped. It's hard to find good Chinese around here, don't know if I'd go back or try my chances somewhere else.

  • Rachel C.

I'm glad to have found a yummy Chinese restaurant in the area. This would be a 3.5 but for the General Tso's chicken and the friendly service. The MuShu Pork and pot stickers were great as well, but the Mongolian Beef was bland and tasteless. Warming the fortune cookies was a nice touch. We will be back.

If you want a comfy bar with amazing breakfast, then YES, this is as good as it gets. I normally reserve 5 stars for restaurants with a view of some sort. This is a rating on breakfast only, I have not tried their other items. Went to breakfast here with family, 5 of us in all. Everyone totally enjoyed their meals, only one of us was able to finish the whole plate. That would be my mom-in-law who loves her breakfasts ! Just simply delicious home made everything. Service was fantastic, waitress was fun & friendly. I had the mexican omelete loaded with taco meat, cheese & veggies. Ever plate I saw looked delicious. Got to watch the Seahawks game on their TV's while enjoying family & food. Great place ! I hope to go back next time we are in town.

I can't believe I just found this little gem! It may not look fancy but from the owners big "welcome home" when you first walk in to the fantastic food, this place was awesome! We will be back for sure!

No other words than disgusting. Greasy, and I do mean GREASY. Pork fried rice and chow mein were just mush on the plate. Worst Chinese food of the dozens I've had in the Portland Metro area.

What a nice surprise! Despite the positive Yelp reviews I expected very little out of this Chinese restaurant advertising "American Breakfast". Being Christmas Eve, and us home with new born twins, we decided to give it a try since it was close, and open. To begin with the service was very friendly and food was ready to go right when we requested. I had the pork fried rice, pot stickers and Hunang Chicken. None of the food was light, or any where near healthy, but it was quite tasty, especially the fried rice and pot stickers. The Hunang was advertised as spicy, but I didn't detect any spice, and it was a bit lacking in flavor... Nothing some Sriracha and soy sauce didn't fix. All and all, a good experience, and I'm looking forward to trying more things on the menu.

Chinese dinner: Ehhhhh... but American breakfast? OH MY GOD. We have been coming here for six years, and my heart will break a little if I ever live too far away to frequent it. This is hands-down the best breakfast place I know in Beaverton or Portland: their portions and prices are amazing, the servers are so friendly and positive, and their omelettes just can't be beat. For $9.85 I get an ENORMOUS omelette stuffed with onions, peppers, chicken, beef, sour cream, salsa and pepperjack cheese, a side of seasoned red potatoes, and English muffins with a side of deliciously thick, warm sausage gravy. It's easily two meals, sometimes three, and my colleagues are always envious when I bring my amazing leftovers to lunch. The CD Scramble (formerly called Carma's Scramble) is a delicious blend as well, and better for those who favour lighter meals. Yes, the atmosphere is ordinary or downright plain. They're definitely not selling you an interesting environment. But it's bright, airy, open and clean, and what more could you want for breakfast? No, it's not for health fanatics. The food is definitely rich and heavy and high in all of the bad carbs. But man, your tastebuds will dance in delight if you give in to the temptation. Yes, Bruce's direct, familiar humour can take some definite getting used to, but it's all harmless ribbing. Bruce and his staff remember you and are always willing to make accomodations. Heck, I handed them my Create-Your-Own-Omelette order typed up on a slip of paper (can you tell we're regulars?) and they keep it, remember me, and make it wonderfully every time, even when the chef has to cry a little to make it (because of the spice!). Now, *that's* customer service. Everybody I've ever brought here over the years has been impressed and begged to return - and who am I to deny them?

I always take price into consideration when writing my reviews. Beautifully affordable Chinese food. 13 dollars got me a 23ounce IPA and a huge plate of lamb on rice. If you are looking for quality Chinese for a fantastic price...this is..your place!

I eat here regularly, this is our go to family Chinese place. I've lived in the Portland area for over 10 years and this is for sure on my list as one of the best places to go. The service is quite good as well - the owner is usually there, and as soon as you walk in the door, he will say "Welcome home". Nice touch. I have never had the breakfast but the menu looks great and I have read and heard good things about it. They have excellent lunch specials , that include entree, rice, and tea. Most of them are under 8 dollars, and it is much much better than any chinese "fast food" option. I stick with Orange chicken, sesame beef, or general Tsao chicken usually, but other menu items are good too. We usually have family style dinners, and again I am never disappointed. the food is fresh, flavorful, and well portioned. Try the honey walnut shrimp, sizzling beef & scallops, green beans with pork, and the other staples noted above. The kids love the sweet & sour chicken, and the kung pao is great as well. I have lived in China, and the food here has similar flavors but better quality than what I would regularly get there. Enjoy :)

Marginal food, lousy service. We stopped in here on the way home from the coast, encouraged by the positive reviews here and the full parking lot. Don't let the latter fool you: everyone was on the bar side, with not a soul in the restaurant. Even though the restaurant was empty, we were seated way in the back. Service was prompt and friendly for the ordering part, but once we got our food, no one came back to ask us if we'd like more water, needed anything, or when we were done to ask if we wanted dessert. We had to go up to the front to ask for the check and to go boxes. Then we sat and sat as no one came back to collect our payment. Where was the staff? The manager was up front yukking it up with some to go customers -- and get this -- the wait staff was out front doing gardening! Cheesy man, really cheesy! If the food had been fabulous maybe we could have let this go. But alas, the food was bland and uninspiring. Needless to say, we won't be back. PS: This place wouldn't last five minutes in Portland or anyplace else that knows anything about service or cooking Chinese food.

I hate to leave negative reviews but this is a restaurant that I frequented until today. I had an hour for my lunch break. In the past this has never been an issue. Though they were a bit busier than normal I was sat immediately then watched as table after table was served before us. After the third group that arrived after us were served and after stopping the waiter twice to ask to place or order we left. Sadly this will be out last visit here.

Wow! What an awesome find! Saw the reviews on yelp and decided to throw my hat in. We stopped here after a weekend trip to the coast for a quick lunch. The people were friendly and prompt. We felt right at home. Had just a couple of things to share from the lunch menu, orange chicken, broccoli beef, house special chow mein, and some hot and sour soup. All wonderful. And plenty to share with the wife and daughter. The prices were plenty reasonable for lunch, in fact I thought it was a great deal, even thought it was too cheap! I can't wait to return and try their huge breakfast menu! I would take folks here for sure.

Wow. Maybe I've been spoiled by living in the SF Bay Area for so long that my expectations for Chinese food have become to high?? I think my 92 year old WASP grandma would consider this food too bland. Ordered take out. Decided to go with some Chinese take out staples for a 1st time trial run. Chow Mein, pot stickers, fried rice, Wonton soup, pork fried rice, etc. Tried the chow mein first. Noodles cooked OK but no cabbage or green onions or any other visible mix. Just meat and noodles. Not even a hint of soy sauce or ginger in any of the dishes. Totally uninspired. Wonton soup base was just like salt and warm water. Made it through a little of each dish and then unceremoniously tossed the rest. Looking like downtown Portland only offers viable Chinese food. Nuff said.

First time trying thanks to yelp. We were craving Chinese food as we had been out all day without anything to eat. As I read reviews I was sort of skeptical , 'American breakfast' @ a Chinese restaurant. Im guessing Bruce is the gentlemen who seated us. He is definitely interesting, and has a sense of humor. We asked for crunchy noodles for our soup, he asked if we were from the east coast (totally not, from vegas but now Portland locals) and said that they were too cheap and laughed. hmm haha. but we ordered the crab puffs, tasty good. but a little small on the amount of stuffing. Chow mein, tasted just like panda express. Then the honey walnut prawns... so not prawns , VERY SMALL shrimp 20 to be exact. but good, not great. good tho. We started our meal with Hot and Sour soup which came with the meal, im not a fan of it. but it wasn't too bad. Similar to other places i have come across.

I love this place. Their sign indicates American Breakfast and I was very surprised at their expanded menu. They almost offer too many choices. Ambiance -we entered via the lounge, it looked pretty happenin' at 8:30-ish, couple of old boys having "coffee" and chatting. Low lighting, TVs on, cozy. We proceeded to cafe/restaurant area. Bright and welcoming. Service - Humorous and diligent. Only once, a little miss on coffee refill, but otherwise pretty efficient. Quality -Like I mentioned earlier, they had a lot of choices. I had a hash mixture and my folks enjoyed polish sausage breakfast. Great portions. $4 Mimosa. They let me distribute my own 187ml ------ Good crowd of locals, mostly of the older generation. A great time. I recommend and would return to down some beers in their lounge. Their outside patio/smoking area looked cool, too.

Service was a bit lacking and the food was only ok. It was somewhat busy in there for an early Sunday so the slowness could be forgiven, there only appeared to be one person taking orders at the time. When it did come time to order the man who helped us was rather curt, walking away before I could answer that I did not in fact want hot and sour soup, only taking my friend's "yes" to mean for both of us. The General Tso's chicken had pretty alright flavor but several of my pieces were mostly breading/seasoning. The tea, although free, was pretty weak too. Maybe I'd go back to try the breakfast but there are definitely better choices for Chinese food.

When I first moved here, I was on a quest to find the best french toast I could get without having to make it myself, so the first time we came here was for breakfast. On that, I would recommend mimosas and avoiding the french toast. I kind of wish they served Chinese breakfast, as I'm not at all familiar with breakfast foods from that part of the world. Next I tried the Szechuan Bean Curd and Ma Po Tofu (without pork) for lunch, and I suspect these might be the same thing but I ordered them both too far apart to tell. I didn't like them. They definitely had the signature Szechuan peppercorn taste, but I just don't like soft tofu - vastly prefer it fried, but that seems far from the norm in this part of the country. Although fried tofu wouldn't have worked very well in this dish anyway, so I don't know what I was expecting. For awhile, Best of Szechuan was my number one spot - they actually had a couple fried tofu dishes and they were delicious. Sadly they seemed to have closed their doors recently, and with China Delight being across the street I decided to give them another shot. We ordered the lunch portions of Mongolian beef as well as the sweet and sour chicken for lunch. The beef didn't impress, but the chicken was the best I've had in years, since I left the east coast at the very least. It was tender and delicious, fried perfectly, and you could taste all the vegetables (primarily onion and bell pepper) in the sauce. It was so amazing that I had to grab it again two days later, and this will definitely be a regular spot for me. Unfortunately the fried rice isn't that good, but what can you do?

Great American breakfast, huge menu and awesome freezer jam (not awful Smuckers)! So many options, there is something for everyone. Make an omelette your way, truly anything you can think of, they make it happen. It is popular, so a small wait is expected on weekends, but they move you in quickly. Service is good with friendly ladies who probably worked there for years. Can't wait to try the Chinese. But breakfast is hard to match!

Read a lot of good reviews about breakfast here so my husband and I decided to try it since we were in the area. Food was good (the almond french toast was good). Service was EXTREMELY slow. They definitely treat the regulars better. A table that was sat 30 minutes after us got their food right after us. Probably won't be back.

We liked the food tasty and fresh. We had sweet and sour chicken it was very fresh and had a thin crusty chicken, one of the best. Service was excellent, the soup was brought out fast and the sweet and sour chicken came about the time we finished our soup.

Welcome Home! Awesome basic Chinese restaurant. We stopped in for lunch and everything was great especially the service. I lived in NYC for the last 15 years and this place beats most Chinese fare there. Then again most food here does. Looks like they have quite a range for breakfast as well. We'll be back for sure.

Best Chinese food in Beaverton & best value lunch combos. Each combo comes with fried rice, hot tea and excellent hot and sour soup (a must, in my opinion) to start. The service is always terrific - Bruce is great and always there to welcome you home and. I'm sad I don't work as close by anymore, but I still make an effort to get out there every once in a while. I haven't had the breakfast, but want to try it as well - it looks good!

Love coming to China Delight! I've been here a few times for the Chinese food, but that's just mediocre. I come here for the American breakfast... Yes folks, breakfast! CD has leisurely breakfasts at fantastic prices. The menu isn't giving you any fancy Portland fare, just simple, straightforward breakfast foods. I usually get the Italian sausage omelette but they have so many other good things. Try the shrimp and a avocado omelette and the sweet potato pancakes! You won't be sorry. The portions are large and the waitstaff and owner are very fun and lively people. If you need something quick, simple and tasty, I encourage you to go!

I wasn't impressed by this place. The food was very bland. It tasted like Panda express, just more expensive and the guy who served us was a bit weird. he tried to be funny at unexpected times, then went to being blunt and loud. I even witness him calling the female customers cute, and babe at times. Thats not professional at all. When it came time to order the food, I asked if it came with rice and he said white rice and pointed to the menu. I asked if I can get fried rice instead and he said "no you pay extra" so I went with white rice. I was not gonna pay an extra $6 for fried rice. Its sad that they do no substations here. When the food came, I was was not impressed. As I said above the food tasted closer to cafeteria style and had little to no flavor. I have yet to try their so called "breakfast" but I don't think I will. For Chinese, I'll stick to Happy Garden in Cornelius. (see my review of that one)

Ate lunch here today. The kun pao chicken was spicy and flavorful. I would have liked an egg roll with lunch but it was not offered as an option. My husband had the prawns with vegetables and said it was ok. A lot of people were having the breakfast menu. There were a lot of families and teenagers (probably because it's across from the high school). It was a good cheap meal.

I love this place! It has some great food! Hot and sour soup, sesame beef, kung pow chicken, and fried rice are some of my favorites. I have never been in the restaurant to eat, but always get take out. When you walk in your always greeted by the owner, he says, "welcome home." Always so nice and tells you to "put your food on the passenger side floor!" Great food, good take out service!!!

The food was mediocre and generic. I eaten this food half a dozen places and prepared better. Food was served quickly and friendly though. The cost was very cheap, but I was not happy with the product. The greeter was nice but calling my wife "cutie" is a bit much.

This place isn't much to look at from the outside, but has solid street cred. Loved the staff almost as much as the food. Four of us had dinner here. First time for the wife and I, a repeat visit for the other two in our party. They lived in San Francisco for many years and as such crave a certain level of chinese food, fortunately they discovered this place at the recommendation of a coworker. Upon entering the owner greets you warmly, then entertains the whole evening with bad jokes that are somehow very funny. Through his antics we tried a new menu item (scallion pizza - tasty but has a bad name), and received excellent service. The food came promptly and we received quick and frequent refills of water and later rice. We tried the orange beef (crispy and citrusy), the old fashioned sweet and sour pork (the sauce is brown rather than neon red), and eggplant in a clay pot (soft and savory). Rumor has it the pot stickers are to die for. If you're into such things, there's a special menu with dishes like pig intestines with tofu. Not for me, but one of our party was interested.

I came for brunch on a Sunday and this restaurant is a bit peculiar in that it is a Chinese restaurant that serves American breakfast - Eggs Benedict, Hash, Scrambles, Omelets, Sausage, Pancakes, etc. I did not order the American breakfast, but my friends did and it looked pretty American and yummy. I ordered the CD wings - lemon grass with garlic. Not bad, pretty tasty. The Chinese waiter described it as a rendition of Pok Pok's chicken wings. Incorrect. I didn't tell him that their chicken wings did not taste like Pok Pok's, but it really didn't - far from it. The service was friendly and made sure our water cups were filled. They informed us that if we ordered American food that it would take 45 mins to make, as compared to Chinese food (if we wanted it) which would take 10 minutes. My friends meals actually did not take as long as they said. I didn't try the Chinese food, so hope its good if you eat it!

Bruce the owner is hilarious and incredibly inviting, he makes this restaurant! I was nervous to try this, due to them also serving "American breakfast", seemed like an odd mix to me, but was presently surprised. When entering the decor is very outdated, but overall very clean. The service was great and the food came out quickly. I had an asparagus and beef entree and my boyfriend had fried rice, we both really liked our choices. I'm actually curious to try the breakfast, it looks like there are a lot of choices.

China Delight = Chinese restaurant that serves American breakfast. Oh wait let me rewrite that... Chine Delight = Chinese restaurant that serves great & delicious American breakfast. Great standard American breakfast fare and they have specials for early birds as well. Coffee is hot and strong. Service is excellent. The owner is very funny, he greeted everybody that walk in to the restaurant "Welcome home!" Decent size of portions too. The decor of this place just your standard Chinese American restaurant. Nothing to rave about, but the food yes the breakfast is so damn good! That's something to rave for!

Stopped just before they closed the other night while staying nearby at an hotel and was not thinking it would be great but the owner is very friendly and makes you feel welcome . I wanted to order the Mongolia beef but he convinced me to order the Hunan beef with black bean with leeks and I asked for some scallions . Omg ! It was so good ! Would have to say one of all time favorite Chinese dishes . The Hot and Sour soup was also very good .

My wife introduced me to this place oh about 3 years ago, she had been coming here years before that, and we have been coming here consistently ever since whenever we have a craving for Chinese. I was never a huge Chinese food fan until I came here, we are pretty stubborn when it comes to trying different things on the menu, but I can tell you there's a reason we order Broccoli Beef, Orange Peel Chicken, Chicken Chow Mein, Egg Rolls, and The Green Beans. All of it is simply amazing! The food alone would earn this place 5 stars forever in my book. The staff & owner are very friendly and provide excellent service. You cannot ask for more! I would highly recommend this place to everyone, if you haven't tried it, and your in the mood for some really good Chinese, stop in and enjoy a meal, you will be back!

Update! I usually eat in the lounge area so I missed this tidbit: China Delight offers a special, authentic menu that is available by request. This information should make those looking for a more authentic experience delighted! Also, I shouldn't say this because I don't want the secret out but- their breakfast is great. Breakfast pizza is huge and ridiculously cheap.

Well...I"m not from California or Oregon for that matter but I do know and love Chinese food. We've only been here once but were very pleased with the food and the service. We started with basic Chinese fare and it was solid. A welcome find in PDX where good Chinese food is rare. The owner is an great guy with an awesome personality. I personally love his no cell phone policy. Using your phone in a restaurant is rude. Trust me, you're really not that important. We'll be regulars for sure!!

This has been a place my family has been going to for years. As Bruce the owner says, it is like coming "home.". We haven't had anything on the menu that we haven't liked. Our favorite item on the menu is the spicy mushroom and string bean shrimp. The bar next door seems really popular. I have not been in it, but the drinks are good (which we ordered from our table). When we aren't sure what to order, we tell Bruce some specifics (like spicy, fish, etc.) and let him take the lead. Although it might be something we have passed on the menu, it is something we look for in the future.

Average breakfast. I stopped in for breakfast with my daughter and grandson. Service was very friendly, but food was very slow in coming out and just average in quality. Restaurant was not crowded and we didn't order anything particularly fancy, so it should not have taken 25 minutes for food to come out, and it was nothing special. I'm only reviewing their American breakfast.

Reviewing "American Breakfast" only. Ya know, if you're going to plaster "American Breakfast" all over the windows and hike banners advertising how great it is, you ought to consider serving good coffee. It is a staple of the breakfast, and I think maybe the coffee I had today was brewed just from that...staples..rusty staples perhaps. In any case, it was amongst the worse coffee I have ever tasted--oily slick floating atop the cup, pucker lips bitter that even 4 creamers and a couple packets of sugar couldn't help. I gave up and drank the lemon flavored water instead. I wanted something light and simple so I ordered hashbrowns and eggs, side of toast. No one should be able to mess up such a simple dish - am I right here? While I don't slam the quantity -the slab of hashbrowns covered half the plate, they were tasteless and greasy. Beneath the hashbrows was a puddle of oil and honestly, it smelled rancid. Eggs, over easy, were eggs over easy, Rye toast was very good but the off brand jelly packet was not. My suggestions for this place--clean the coffee machine daily. I've worked in the restaurant business and I know that coffee brewers need a good scrubbing out-not just the glass decanters, but the brewing parts too. And perhaps invest in a better blend of coffee. I am NOT a coffee snob, and usually order a cuppa joe black-I can pretty much drink anything. This was just bad coffee brewed poorly. 2nd suggestion is to consider changing out the cooking oil more often. Hashbrowns shouldn't smell and taste rancid. The waitress was great however-she offered to delete the cost of the coffee from my bill. I gave the place 2 stars because she was efficient, thoughtful, pleasant and knew how to please the customer. I left an almost full plate of food-it cost me $8 bucks. I wont be back and suggest you try someplace else also.

Our first time, and it was great. Hot and sour, Hunan beef (beef with black bean sauce), and General Tso's chicken were all just right. Service was excellent and we can't wait to try other menu items -- or come back for the lounge. Their A/C kept us comfy during the heatwave, but I do wish they delivered.

The best chinese food I have ever eaten. The restaurant looks like 80's decor, but the food is to die for. Bruce tells you "Welcome Home" when you walk in the door. They used to have this special menu with really authentic chinese food that you could order if you asked for it. They have a bar attached so you can have real chinese food and real alcohol. They also have some ladies come in and do American Breakfast which is just as good.

Yesterday was Christmas so we thought we'd change it up a bit and try a new place. This place was recommended by friends and had good reviews here on Yelp so we attempted to eat dinner here last night but alas, never got that far. We walked in at about 8PM and were seated promptly. This turned out to be the only positive thing that happened. The dining room was full, but not overly so, with several open tables. If they had experienced a dinner rush it was apparently over by the time we got there. As we sat, I noticed some slimy food remnants still on the table, ostensibly left by the prior occupants. I asked the server to please clean our table. I proceeded to pour some tea for us and noticed my teacup was covered in lipstick and also had not been cleaned. I looked down at my plate and, yep, dried food stuck to it. At this point, we had not yet received menus. After about 30 minutes of waiting at our table, a man (the manager?) came by to drop off menus and tell us that it would be at least another 30 minutes until we could order food - and that he had told us this when we were seated (he had not). That was it for us. It will be a hot day on Christmas when we go back there again.

It looks as thought most of the bad reviews here were from a while ago, so fingers crossed that my experiences are what it's really like now. This Chinese food is great. The guy who runs the store is very personable. They are a little goofy with their "No cell phones - only outside" signs, but hey, I know what it's like to want to punch someone in the face for being rude on their cell phone in a restaurant. They don't use msg in their food, which I didn't know made such a big difference. General Tso's chicken is YUM YUM YUM. Food is great, service is great. It's pretty great. Now, on to breakfast. Wow. It's a completely different restaurant at breakfast. The prices are completely reasonable and the portions? Good lord, it's like they are singlehandedly trying to kill me. Standard American breakfast food, and excellent at that.

"Welcome home" is the theme of this outstanding Chinese restaurant in Raleigh Hills. Owner/Chef Bruce Chen will greet you with his "welcome home" and then keep you entertained throughout your meal with his sense of humor. If you can't decide what to order then Mr. Chen will even plan a meal for you. I've traveled throughout the Far East and I've never seen Chinese food so elegantly prepared and presented as it as at China Delight. Some outstanding items from the menu are the honey walnut prawns, fresh crab (alive in an aquarium), and dry sauteed beef. China Delight even offers it's own version of French prime rib! The interior of China Delight is elegant and comfortable. The rest rooms are so clean that you could eat your dinner in them. China Delight has a bar in the back that is well decorated and quite popular. China Delight offers the very best of gourmet Chinese food.

disclaimer: this is a non-i'm from california- review this place is definitively more American Chinese. the guy is very friendly and service is fine. however, i was fairly disappointed in the food. a few things like the eggplant dish were good (a bit oily though). the calamari dish was half calamari half onions / calamari was extremely dry most of the meat dishes disappointed.

Begrudgingly my boyfriend and I dragged our hungover butts out of bed this morning for some breakfast. We got there and we seated right away. I think every employee in the building asked us if we were ready to order before we actually were ready, it was kind of funny. The no cell phone signs were really weird. Why can't I use my cell phone, am I in school? I am paying YOU to eat here aren't I? Confusing, but moving on... The coffee was good. The portions were way too big for me to finish (yay). My french toast was amazing. My boy's hash was amazing. You can really tell that they use fresh ingredients and make almost everything from scratch. Overall the staff is helpful and friendly and the breakfast was bomb. Can't wait to try the Chinese food, haha.

One of the best things about the place is how the owner Bruce personally connects with you and is always the showman. Food is on the whole what you want from Chinese food. It rarely deviates in quality though there are some dishes I can do without. For me the must have is the sesame beef. The flavor and the way they cook the meat drives me crazy. Additionally both the chow mein and pork fried rice are the best we have encountered in the city. Sweet and Sour chicken suffers from being breaded to much and coming out soggy but the sauce which is complimented by green peppers almost convinced me otherwise. Also the "original pizza" is nothing but a fry bread with chives in it. Not at all what I expected or would want. Water is great with a very strong flavor of lemon in it and is cold. If there can be a best water in the city this would be it. Food is priced very reasonably and there is always plenty of seating which is generally DIY.

ok I first thought.. no way can this place have such a nice staff as other reviewers stated.. but the owner greets you with a " welcome home" and a huge smile.. he chats with you as he takes your order.. friendly friendly people. I had the green bean mushroom chicken... amazing.. really the best food I have eaten in forever. I ordered mine without the mushrooms.. ick.. hubby had the General Tso's .. and it was ok.. nothing to right home about. Pork friend rice was great! My girls ordered potstickers.. they were kinda icky.. they were huge and my girls were not a fan.. I tasted one and I was not a fan either..

We've been continuing to return for breakfast and have been consistently happy each time. Atmosphere aside, still hold this out as one of the very best places for breakfast in PDX. Delicious, made-from-scratch, yum, yum, yum. P.S. And re: the only negative breakfast review -- sounds highly suspect, or a very strange off-day. Noticed that she (the reviewer) has created a whole list of places she "avoids like the plague" including the Apple Store? Whatever, enough said. Try China's Delight breakfast for yourself. You won't be disappointed in the food -- and no, I don't own the place, or work there, or know anyone who does.

I have driven by here many times and had just read some really good reviews about China Delight on Yelp so we decided to give it a try. It was wonderful food and everyone who works there is a lot of fun. It was a very pleasant experience and we will go back again soon! Also love that they use no MSG in their food!

I used to go here often. It's just fantastic. The food is delicious and a fantastic balance between Chinese and American cooking. I highly recommend the orange chicken and beef with asparagus. I unfortunately have celiac disease. It would be awesome if they got gluten free orange chicken. My one complaint is the price of a side of steamed veggies. It was way too much. I enjoy extra vegetables and I think it should have been half of what I paid.. However, I will probably be back. This place is awesome.

Welcome Home! We love this place! Best General Tso's chicken in town. Everything is fresh, hot, and substitutions are NO PROBLEM! Hot and Sour Soup gives has the right amount of heat! Walnut Chicken is kinda sweet, but we like it anyway. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Had a Chinese friend visit from San Francisco, took her there and she loved it too! Must be good.....

Absolutely delightful and one of the best in Portland. I am Chinese-American from San Francisco and I have been searching for decent Chinese food in Portland. I admit that the Chinese food is MUCH better in California but this place compares with ones in San Francisco and is one of the best of Portland. What I love about China Delight is that they try to keep things real. They made the best compromise. They have two menus: one for basic customers and one for people that request the authentic menu. Both menus are excellent but the authentic one has the most amazing black bean chicken. You can even go in there and tell them what you are in the mood for and they will bring you dishes that they created for you. Just like "House of Nanking" in San Francisco. I eat there on a regular basis and every dish that I have had there was fresh and delicious. The owner is a riot as well. He is funny, friendly, and you can tell that he puts a lot of pride into his work. Sometimes I go there just to laugh with the dude. If you are looking for a good Chinese meal that is fresh, hot, and as authentic as it gets in the PNW and you want to meet the hilarious owner, definitely go to China Delight.

Chicken Chow mein: They use chicken like I us Tabasco Sauce. A little dab will do you. Hot and Sour soup: Not so hot, not so sour. Pork fried rice: rice cooked somewhere near some pork close enough so a few shreds fell in. This is definitely cuisine for Gweilo only. An ethnic Chinese would look elsewhere. I went here based on Yelp reviews. Either they dont know authentic Chinese food, or they are used to extremely Americanized Chinese. In any case, I will not donate any more of my hard earned money to this establishment.

Wife and I have frequented this restaurant for about 8 years now. Love the owner, Bruce. This guy is awesome. Always look forward to seeing him. Food is yummy! Service is personalized. Become a regular here and you won't be sorry. If you don't know what you want, prepare to be asked, "two leg, four leg or underwater?" Bruce will then have his team whip something up for you that you're going to enjoy. Oh, and go ahead and get that double martini.

Chinese food! It's simple, its yummy and it can go VERY VERY wrong. China Delight was an interesting experience, not because of the food, just the atmosphere and people. Very welcoming, interesting personalities but not the overbearing "I'm a bored server so I am going to sit here and chat with you, blah blah blah" The food was good, not dry, not saucy and not from a deep freezer. They serve a decent breakfast menu, although lets face it, I was there for dinner (a growing boy has to eat.... growing sideways that is.) Any way, I digress, worth a trip and experience. If you are in the mood for decent chinese food, try them out.

China Delight is truly a delight--however you can't tell from the outside. I had driven by this restaurant for 5 years without ever giving it a second thought. Then, out of desperation on evening we went in. In general the food it good--it is pretty Americanized though. The other hidden delight is that in the mornings it is a totally different restaurant (Carma's American Breakfast). Normally I steer clear of any "American" breakfasts at Chinese food restaurants. However, you will love it. Crispy hashbrowns, yummy bacon, fluffy pancakes, decent coffee. It is a favorite of ours now.

Pretty much the same basic American Chinese food you will find in any strip mall in America. Went here on Saturday night for the first time, and from the outside, it appeared promising, it was packed full. However, I didn't key in that the patrons were all, well, the buffet-style patrons. You know what this means. I've lived in China, so my standards for Chinese cuisine are admittedly more picky than most. Service is never a big deal for me, and here was pretty normal,. We ordered two dishes, the Hunan Lamb and the Orange peel beef. The lamb was *maybe* lamb, we actually could not tell. Ordering it 'extra spicy' meant that it had three pieces of pepper, and was quite bland. The Orange Peel Beef was really overly sweet, the beef pieces were huge and dry, and also quite un-spicy. If you're in the mood for the average American-ized Chinese food that is familiar to any low-budget takeout, you won't be disappointed here.

This is my new go-to Chinese restaurant! One of my favorite things in the world is General Tso's Chicken, and China Delight's is awesome. The Kung Poa is killer too. The owner is a kick, especially after that double martini.

Great food for take-out. We ate In house the other night and I had a hard time with the sodium drenched taste I kept getting in multiple items. MSG I guess but they advertise msg free?? I hope it was just an off night

I've been frequenting China Delight for a year now and I always have a great dinner when I go there. The owner and staff are always friendly, the restaurant is kept clean, and the atmosphere is relaxing. Most of all, the food is delicious! Easily the best Chinese food I've had in the Portland Metro area. Welcome Home!

I too am originally from California.(don't tell any one lol) I don't know where the previous reviewers were from in Cali, but where I came from we had rockin' Chinese food. It's probably the ONLY thing I miss. The food served at China Delight was extremely bland, and the quality was disappointing- I am being kind. I should have known better than to eat Chinese food at a place that also has a 'Trucker's Breakfast' on the menu. The most positive thing I can say is that it didn't give me food poisoning, and that the service was passable. Though it was funny to watch the waiter tell the same joke to every table that came in to be seated.

Took my daughter for her chosen birthday lunch. We haven't been in a couple of years after having been regulars since 2002. Were greeted by Bruce like long lost family and greeted my daughter as little princess. It really made her day. Her favorite has always been (Original Recipe) Sweet & Sour Chicken since it has the rich brown sauce rather than the nasty bright red sauce you'll find elsewhere. Absolutely delicious lunch and I'm not suffering from it hours later from being greasy, like other Chinese restaurants. We've had numerous different selections over the years and have enjoyed them all - even my Korean friend who had the Kimchi, or Chinese friends who have the whole fish with the head and all share it. Before the kids would touch Chinese, we would bring Wendy's chicken nuggets and fries in for the kids and Bruce was fine with it - as long as he could steal a few fries!

I've been to both the breakfast and the dinner. My family regularly goes to breakfast here without me and loves it. I have found it to be a little too greasy and ordinary. As for dinner, I agree with everyone who loves the owner. I think he's cool, too, but that can't really save the food, which is just plain American Chinese. Last time we went, the appetizer was served last. My mu shu pork was OK but not impressive. My son's chicken fried rice was a bit too greasy. My husband's orange chicken was not very good. Granted, it may have been an off night. I have had the steamed pot stickers before and was satisfied by them. There are better places for Chinese in SW Portland/Beaverton area.

This place was horrible! We had waitress that had blonde hair was mean! And we too are from California! I came there normally and they have a good steak. I was not impressed and did not like how we were treated! They need to fix there racial problem. My mom went there with her friend and were totally discriminated there! I never want to go there again! Find a new attitude Waitress!

Bruce the owner, is always very welcoming & friendly! He says, "Hello cutie, welcome home!" Service has always been great, food is served fast, it is a very clean restaurant and the other reviewers I don't know where the hostility comes from I have never been treated poorly and I have been eating there since I went to high school across the street. The Hot n' Sour soup is great, Kung Pao, Brocc Chicken and so is everything else.

  • Daniel C.

The food is decent. I'm new to the area so this is the first one I've tried. Coming from California, this restaurant would be considered average. The service isn't particularly fast, and the materials can be a bit fresher. The prices are about average. A dish usually runs you between 9 to 12 dollars. It has its own parking lot, which holds maybe about 15 cars.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
