I have never been so embarrassed!!!! I called and placed a lunch order for 5 people for delivery. The call was placed at 11:15 am and was told about 35-45 minutes. I called at noon and spoke to someone and she informed me that the delivery man had NOT left yet and it would be another 20 minutes. We waited 20 minutes and called back. I was told that they were very busy and that the CHEF/COOK was the delivery person and he is running late. I finally asked what time do you think we will get the food. She responded sometime after 1 pm. I have never been so angry. Why did she not say this on the first call that it would be this long. THEY WERE SURE QUCIK ENOUGH TO RUN OUR CREDIT CARDS. We had to call sever times to insure that the processed a cancelation for the orders. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dishes are hit and miss. The misses can be serious misses, but when you find the hits, good for you. Current hits: Pork noodle soup loaded with bok choy. Perfect for cold weather. House special chow mein. Lots of noodles, lots of meat. Greasy - like I grew up with. Mongolian beef This place is steps away from work, so it is possible I am more forgiving of the misses than others would be. But finding lunch downtown for under $5 is a serious coup these days not to be overlooked or dismissed.

Delivery service is slow, but there are few others.

Chose to eat here because it was close to the Keller but the service was horrible! We were a party of six. They brought one plate of food and 10 minutes later brought another. Then two more. Two of us sat and watched while our friends ate. Our friends were nearly done with their meals and we were STILL waiting! We finally canceled our dinner because we needed to leave to get to the show and would have no time to enjoy our meal. The waitress didn't seem to understand why this would be a problem. The egg flour soup was really good, though.

They deliver downtown and SW. It's cheap and fast. Now we're not talking gourmet, but for quick Chinese delivery it's great. It's not the healthiest, food's a little greasy, but that's what I'm looking for when the I get the calling for August Moon.

After waiting over an hour for the delivery, the food arrived and it was colder than the Coca Cola I ordered to drink with it. I made the g-awful mistake of calling the restaurant only to be met with a person with a limited understanding of English- (duh, what was I thinking, it is a Chinese restaurant). Needless to say I will not order from there again.

Holy Bad Chinese food batman!!! This place is just bad, bad, bad!!! I don't even feel I need to add more to this. Don't go here, period!

I ordered the generals chicken and the shredded beef and neither were recognizable as meat. When I called after getting the delivery order to let them know that the food was inedible the man who answered just said, "oh, sorry" and offered no other thoughts on the matter. Pretty screwed up. Never again. A waste of 25 dollars.

Not good at all... Service was poor... I was the only one there yet after waiting a long time I had to get up and find the waitress to order my lunch..when she brought my food I asked if she had any soy sauce and she appeared annoyed that she had to retrieve it for me.. Ordered the moo goo gai pan which should have been called moo goo gai bland.. I will continue my search for decent Chinese food in Portland.. August Moon was a waste of my time...

I personally love this place. the sesame beef and sesame shrimp are wonderful and the full order of the fried rice is the best I have ever had. Now for some reason the fried rice that comes with the lunches taste different. I have a love of their mushu pork. I like their hot and sour soup. I would have given it 4 stars however .... the few times I tried to eat there on my lunch breaks but alas it never worked out timing wise. It was just easier to have the lunch to go. Also DO NOT ORDER THE CRAB PUFFS... DONT DO IT, IT IS NOT OKAY. so a typical crab puff for those of you who dont know.... is cream cheese, scallions or shallots, crab and a little lemon in a wonton.... then fried.... these are the most disgusting thing I have ever put into my mouth... no ... really it is. It was cheddar cheese and crab. it was just not okay...... other than that.... I do indeed like the food.

It's cheap. Ok, I was going to stop my review there, but that feels like cheating. I eat here more than I want to due to it's very close proximity to my office and often needing to take a quick lunch. They offer lots of standard Americanized Chinese dishes which means fried. You can fill your belly with lots of rice and cheap saucy meat (all the meat tastes exactly the same: think frying pan.) You won't feel great after eating here, but for Downtown lunches, it's cheap. The service wildy varies. Friendly enough, but sometimes they will bring one diner a plate of food, and the second diner has to wait for ten minutes for their plate to show up.

My lovely lady and I ordered our meal at 8:15 on a Wednesday night. I'd seen the delivery vehicles rolling around town and since chinese delivery is rare in Portland I figured I would give it a try. After scoping out the menu, we decided to go with some munchies; crab and cheese wontons and potstickers, which can either be amazing or disapointing depending on your frame of reference. I had to at least try the soup, because to me thats a testament to the legititmacy of a chinese joint, so I ordered a cup of hot and sour. As for the entree we decided to have some house fried rice and we'd might as well nibble on some pork ribs...... We're stoned and lazy in the gray winter months, and the convenience of delivery is mighty enticing, so we ordered, and we wait................ pros and cons people, pros and cons. I'll start with the good. The fried rice was really tasty, with lots of meat and lots of egg, it had good flavor and wasn't bad at all. The pork ribs were delicious, covered in chinese bbq sauce, all red and un-naturally. The potstickers were delicious, probably the best I've had at a chinese place in PDX, soft, doughy dumplings filled with pink and weirdish pork, if they had more ginger it would've been cool. The crab and cream cheese wontons were ok, tiny pocket of crab/cheese that they dangled on a crusty crunchy wonton. The bad: The soup, unmentioned as of yet, was inedible. It looked a few days old, and even though I specified spicy when prompted, I think the only spice in the mix was black pepper. Even though I'm not blown away, the convenience and tastiness of those dumplings might force me to try the sesame chicken sometime. After consultation with my star council, I'm gonna give this place a 3, only because I can't give it a 2.5 **Update whenever I try the sesame chicken**

This is not a customer service establishment. After waiting 45 minutes for food for a party of 2, we got up to leave. Mind you we complained twice and watch ideally as others seated after us were being feed. The owner of this establishment actually stopped us on our way out and insisted we pay. She actually told us it's not her fault it's so busy and she's the only cook. WHAT????? We NEVER received our food. She was extremely aggressive and pushy. She was actually yelling at us for money and calling us names as she kicked us out.

The food was good in general but not spectacular, it arrived an hour after I ordered it and I live within 3 blocks so not all that fast, and the portions were smaller than I expected. I would order again if it was the only place open.

I was dragged here by one of my best friends after where the place we wanted to go to was packed due to a UFC fight .. You would think that a group of 5 adults would have been smart enough to walk back out when you come at dinner time on a Saturday and NO ONE was eating at the restaurant .. But no. We took a gamble. And yes, we lost. This place has got to have THE worst Chinese food I have ever paid for in my entire life. The rice was old, all FOUR dishes that we ordered tasted the same (they use the same generic "gravy" on every damn dish) .. Freaking HORRIBLE and greasy. Oh and charging $4.50 for luke warm beer doesn't help either. Never coming back. And I will pray for all the souls that will lose hope in Chinese food after trying this place.

This place is like the McDonald's of Chinese food except they deliver. I ordered from the 11th and Clay location and they speedily took my order and had it to me within 45 minutes. It is fast considering that this is Chinese food. The food is acceptable; nothing award winning but considering you can get a lunch special and have it delivered for under 20 dollars and get a large dinner for the same price at 9 PM; yeah the Mcdonald's of Chinese food. That should give you an example of what type of food this is; it really requires no further explanation; even the service matches it; the person taking your order is expedient and prompt even if they are not 100 percent excellent at customer service; the person delivering the food is to the point and has slightly better customer service (even to thanking you for your order). Again; the fast food of Chinese delivery. Once again; its delivery, fast, cheap... Really all the highly negative reviewers; consider what you are ordering BEFORE you order; look at the cost; if you want an extensive high priced great service place; go search for one but if you want something that will just cure your need for Chinese fast with little else and no frills then this is your place.

All around bad. Delivery took an hour and a half. The food was overpriced for the quantity I received. The taste was pure salt, with almost no other flavor. The eggroll was a cheap, frozen, grocery-store style eggroll. I definitely will not eat here again.

  • Eric B.

Astonishingly bad delivery Chinese food. Lemon chicken was leathery and dry, surrounded by a flavorless, mushy breading thicker than the meat. Florescent orange sauce, cloyingly sweet, like a reconstituted jolly rancher. Trust the crowds on this one, steer clear. Two stars is too generous... not even if it were free.

I ordered online from this place at 6:30PM. It is now 8:10PM and my food still isn't here. OH and I live 2 blocks away from the restaurant. WTF? I called the restaurant to ask why they are so late, and instead of apologizing the woman just goes "its a busy delivery night". No apology, nothing. I asked for an explanation, and she just repeated that its a busy delivery night. One hour late when I live two blocks away, AND they have the audacity to charge me a 75 cent online ordering fee? NO THANKS.

"I hate that food," says Ms. A. "It's Gummy and Salty and kind of Gross." Umm, yeeaah. You forgot Hot Cheap and Fast. Its the GSGHCF compound. This is why August Moon is still around, with neighborhood office dwellers hovering around the take out window like seagulls, even on a frigid, slushy day. $4.25 gets you a meal of some sort on the lunch express menu. Just don't expect gastronomic ecstasy. For example, because I was craving something along the GSGHCF continuum today, I got Szechun (sic) Chicken from the express window. $4.25 and less than 120 seconds later, I had crunchy fresh broccoli and edible chicken in some kind of vaguely spicy sauce, some steamed rice, and a fortune cookie. I thought I'd finish this review before I read the fortune, in case it says "That wasn't chicken."

  • Rachael S.

The food is so-so. It's definitely not satisfying my chinese food craving. I would still eat here if everything else was closed, but not after the service today. It took them over 2 hours to deliver food to me. So I would say if you have no other option, then a walk in would be alright. But never order delivery!

    (2)
  • Felicia L.

Cheap Chinese food -- lacks luster, most dishes taste similar. Only thing I think is worthwhile at this place is if you are craving that crunchy day-glow orange sweet and sour chicken or pork. Mmmmm....day-glow. Sometimes you needs it!

  • Heather H.

This place is close to my office, so it's convenient. It has a walk-up lunch order window that certainly makes getting a quick lunch easy. I also eat inside and have never had terrible service. The service here is average. Nothing to write home about. The food is standard Americanized Chinese food, but even my Chinese friend says it's not bad.

    (3)
  • Annaliza S.

its cheap chinese food. granted its not "authentic" but its good for the price you get it at. Whenever my friend and I need a place to eat thats cheap and quick, this is our spot. quick service, polite staff, and it is good chinese food!

A co-worked wanted to try out August Moon for lunch one day, as she heard it was really good. I agreed to go with her, but didn't have any expectations as I had previously read the yelp reviews to see what I was in for. I started with a hot and sour soup. It was way more "sour" than it was hot. Ewww, had to push it aside. My co-worker ordered the Egg Flower soup, but after one bite realized it was raw egg yolks and started gagging. I had the sweet and sour chick and fried rice - lets just say that I ate one piece of chicken and the rice. Although the rice wasn't tasty, I had to eat something. The chicken seemed to be microwaved and then some sauce thrown on top. It was disgusting. I will never go to that place again...

Marginal, Cheap Chinese. An explosion of bland. Not too many high points here. Most of the food items taste about the same but somehow look surprisingly different. I recommend you look elsewhere.

I usually don't write these things, but just want people to know not to order from this place. I ordered pork fried rice, chicken chow mein & sweet & sour pork to be delivered to my workplace. It took an hour and a half. I don't know if that's good or not, but I'm only a mile away. That isn't the worst part. I ordered $22 worth of because there is a minimum $20 delivery. I took a few bites of each and ended up throwing it all in the garbage. The pork fried rice was mushy & greasy, the chicken chow mein was something I've never tasted or seen before, but believe me when I say "yuk"! The sweet & sour pork was the only thing sort of edible, but most of it was dry & hard. I called them and really didn't expect a refund because they don't know me and if I was trying to get a free meal or not. I asked to talk to the manager and was told they were not in. But when I explained what happened and just for the heck of it asked about a partial refund, she said she had to ask her manager. Okay, the one you said was not there? Of course her answer was they couldn't refund and sorry. Although they were willing to give me a restaurant credit, but there is no way I'll ever eat there again. The little bit I ate really messed with my stomach. I work in a large office with over 200 people. The company is very generous to it's employees and they are always order food to be delivered. I'm talking 35 pizza's when they do. This place just lost a lot of business.

It's sad to say . . . but we live in a very superficial society; where it isn't about what's on the inside, but what's on the outside. And this foods outside did not look appealing. In fact it matched its insides . . . BORING. Typically an asterisk on the menu means hot . . . spicy . . . proceed with caution and have milk handy. Well, maybe if I had bitten directly into the pepper I would have gotten a spark, cause there was definitely no fire here. In fact the Kung Pao Chicken, Fried Rice, and Garlic Chicken were all equally flavorless. Overall . . . disappointing.

The above reviewer has the wrong August Moon. They're talking about the one on the 23rd and this one is nowhere near that. Anyways in my opinion this August Moon (the one on Clay) leaves much to be desired. I've had three different dishes there and they've all be way below average. The atmosphere is dark and dreary. The service is spotty at best. I typically go there with 3 other people. All four people get their meals at different times. I'm typically done with my meal when the others at my table have theirs arrive. I would say skip this restaurant and find something better. Downtown PDX has many many great choices. I'm actually surprised this place remains in business.

We are relatively new to the Pacific Northwest, and I have been told it's hard to find good Chinese food out here. So, we had low expectations when we ordered delivery from August Moon. We ordered through grub hub. We ordered shrimp fried rice, pork pot stickers, beef with broccoli, and mushu gai pan. All of it exceeded our expectations - the pot stickers were soft and flavorful. The shrimp fried rice had good sized shrimp (U-25's). The mu shu was savory and delicious and the plum sauce was a great compliment to it. The meat in the beef with broccoli was plentiful and tender. None of the dishes tasted the same, as other reviewers have complained. Service was great - they delivered 10 minutes earlier than what they had estimated. We were satisfied with the service, price, and quality. Maybe we hit them on a good day, but we will certainly go back for more!

  • Sharon A.

A group from work went for a birthday lunch at August Moon. We appeared to be the first people in the place. The tea that was served was bitter and overly strong. Our orders came out in dribs and drabs - there were 8 of us so not a herd. Two people at the table were waiting for their meals while another table was served and these weren't exotic dishes. The food itself was..well...horrible. I had house special fried rice. Overly salty, overly greasy underly good. Going back? Nope. Especially when I was revisiting that fried rice for the rest of the day.

  • Miriam M.

I don't know how it stays in business. The food is OK, but I only go when the person I'm with insists. I've never gotten sick, and it has relieved the feeling of hunger, but that's about all I can say. Oh yes, and it is cheap. But then, greese doesn't cost a lot.

I usually Yelp to relay what I really love, and steer users in the right direction. This review, however, is meant as a warning. Quite simply, this is the worst Chinese I've ever had. And that includes the joint I used to order from in college, which was no Jean-Georges. I ordered the dry, flavorless crab wontons and Chicken with Cashews that was slathered in the most disgusting brown sauce. It was so salty that it made my lips pucker, and started to knot my stomach. I spent $14.50 and threw all but five bites in the trash can. Trust. It's Portland, land of cheap, innovative, healthy eats... spend your dough elsewhere!

Speaking of Papa Haydn's, the westside branch is located on NW 23rd Street. Tree-lined and usually dripping wet with rain, NW 23rd Street is a mecca for cool stores and even cooler patrons. For pre-dessert (otherwise known as dinner) stop by August Moon (405 NW 23rd) for Chinese. If there is a wait at Papa Haydn's, duck into Music Millenium and browse their selection of new and used albums--they boast a pretty extensive collection. It's no Amoeba, but it has the same vibe for those who like to "keep Portland weird."

Ordered from August Moon for the first time and it is just about the best Chinese food I have ever had. (And I lived in China!) I highly recommend their seafood, potstickers and salad rolls! This will be my go-to Chinese restaurant from now on!

By far one of the worst Chinese Restaurants ever Had the "Peking Duck" No scallions, crepes too much flower and stale (broke apart), sauce bad, duck with no flavor

My boyfriend and I always eat here and have never had any issues with the quality of their food. In recent ordering online however, the last 3 times all the containers were leaking horribly and dripping on the outside of the bag when delivered. Very unhappy customers here. Like I said there food is wonderful, their to-go containers are not so wonderful. This might be the worst Chinese food I have ever had. I actually spit the meat from one dish out. The other edible dish was far below average - not to mention the delivery took 2.5 hours

  • Madison W.

Had delivery again, it was good! As a general rule of thumb I try not to order fried food to be delivered because its hard to keep hot and crispy. So I ordered salt and pepper beef which would have been better in the restaurant. I like that you can order delivery online. Its so easy. The food does take over an hour to get there, but I don't mind the wait as I plan for it. And its never later than the expected delivery time they send you in the confirmation email. Guess it just takes a bit. 4 stars though, good noodles

Steamed dumplings and Peking duck are outstanding and worth five stars. Rest of the food is rather blah.

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant for lunch yesterday. As soon as we sat at the table, I reached for the tea cup to turn it over as I wanted some hot tea. Both cups were sitting directly in the tabletop, without a saucer - and they were both stuck to the table. The server brought new cups and we had our tea while perusing the menu. Unfortunately the tea was only warm, not hot even as it came directly out of the spout. Strike one. We looked over the lunch menu and it had the standard fare, so I went with the Curry Chicken while my husband had the Mandarin Shrimp. I also ordered a cup of egg drop soup, which was pretty good. Then the food came to the table. The shrimp still had its tails on- I've never understood why restaurants don't remove tails from dishes that are covered in sauce!y chicken dish was marked on the menu as spicy and it did have a slight heat to it, but I have No idea where they put the curry, because it wasn't on the dish. Also, the "chicken" had the oddest texture I've ever seen. Strike two. The lunch menu mentioned that the meals would come with rice, egg roll, wonton, and fortune cookie. We got the rice and cookie, but the egg roll and wonton were probably hanging out with the curry...somewhere. Strike three. We won't be visiting the August Moon again--three strikes and you're out! Pros: the egg drop soup was decent Cons: everything else

Ordered from here for the last 15 years. Said no green pepper. Allergic. Green pepper in the dish. Dumped it. Delivery? Bring it to the apartment door. Everyone try Ling Garden. Been swapping back and forth. Much better at LG.

Made an online order at 8:30pm, an hour later it had yet to arrive. We called just before 10pm, unfortunately that was closing time. They said sorry we're closed maybe you ordered from a different August Moon. Well, I've never had the food and sadly I probably never will.

My friend and I ordered dinner tonite. My friends meal was cooked perfect and was correct. I ordered the Chicken and Broccoli. What delivered to me was Chicken Noodle Soup with a tiny box of rice. And there was no flavor at all.

SO SALTY!! Potstickers were average, moo shu pork and Happy Family were so salty we could barely eat them. Overpriced dinner for what it was, should've gone to Mandarin Cove.

  • Felicia D.

I've never been to the locations but I have ordered online, it does take some time, but food is usually delivered hot. The egg flower/egg drop soup was disappointing. Another reviewer nailed it when they said it was just concentrated bullion with stringy egg after thoughts. The cashew chicken wasn't terrible but...not the greatest, and the house special chicken crispy noodles had a ton of cabbage I had to dig through and bland in flavor. dumping a ton of soy sauce did the trick though. If you want delicious Chinese, ditch August moon and try ling garden on nw 21st.

I've ordered via GrubHub from this August Moon location twice thus far, & each time my food has arrived ahead of schedule (once was around forty five minutes, & last night's delivery took right at thirty), & it's been assured to meet my vegan specifications. Although it's far from fancy or gourmet Chinese food, it's quite affordable (pints run $5.25 & quarts $8.95 mostly) & the quality is reminiscent of the now-closed all-vegan Vegetarian House (meaning it's fairly standard, Americanized Chinese food yet less greasy than many of its similarly priced competitors). I've ordered the General Tso's tofu, the Buddha's Delight, the Tofu Homestyle, the Broccoli Mushroom with Garlic Sauce, & the Ma Po tofu--all of which I've enjoyed, with my favorites being the General Tso's tofu & the Tofu Homestyle & my least favorite being the Ma Po tofu (it wasn't quite spicy enough for my taste). As long as their delivery remains timely & they keep providing inexpensive vegan Chinese food that doesn't unsettle my stomach, I'll keep ordering.

I have been standing outside of their door for thirty minutes. The sign claims that they are open as of now, however it seems like the staff can't be bothered to show up to work. If they can't manage time, how could they manage a working kitchen? As someone who works in the industry, I find this intolerable. You show up to a dining establishment well before a shift start. I can't judge food that I can't eat. Though I imagine it would be unimpressive considering the chef doesn't even bother to show up to his shift on time. I will be discontinuing years of patronage, and suggesting this venue to friends as of today.

Ordered takeout for dinner, first restaurant we found after getting into town at 9pm. We probably shpuld have checked yelp first! The price for 4 people came out to 58. Its basically very salty, oily, Americanized Chinese food.

  • Len S.

Tried this place for delivery. Not a good start when they list a time of over an hour to get it to me, and blow past that by another 15 min. So I got it, and it was hot, so that at least was good. Then came to eating it. Ick. Some of the worst chinese food I've had. The Gen Tso's chicken tasted nothing like what you'd expect. It was more like Sweet N Sour Chicken. Awful. The fried rice was much too salty and had a huge amount of smoke flavor. Couldn't even pick out the pork in it the pieces were so small. Suffice it to say I won't be getting anything here again.

    (1)
  • Megan B.

Please. Don't waste your time or your money here. The chicken was some strange awful unlike chicken in every way kind of chicken. The sauces were so bland. My boyfriend and I got our money back and left and honestly I didn't feel as bad as I typically would have because it was overpriced and just plain disappointing. Just skip being adventurous and go to Little Big Burger.

This place is the only "Chinese" restaurant I could find that delivered. Delivery took over an hour during non busy hours. The food was horrible, I wouldn't serve it to a death row inmate. I ordered orange chicken, chicken egg foo yung and house special lo mein. The orange chicken was mostly undercooked vegetable's, very little chicken, and tasted nothing like orange and no breading. The egg foo yung was missing chicken, and was an ugly, soggy mess, it did not resemble egg too young, no flavor. The house special lo mein was nothing special, it was the best dish out out of the three that I ordered, again it lacked flavor and was very bland. The only reason I am giving this establishment 1 star is because the price was right, however you get what you pay for. I won't be back!

  • Lisa W.

I just started working a block from here and was glad to find August Moon on my break. They had decent pot stickers and good, if not a little greasy, Szechuan green beans. The prices are incredibly good too. I'll definitely be back.

Unfortunately, this is probably the worst Chinese food I've had in Portland. I've been here twice now. The staff is really very nice, but when it comes to the food, it's very disappointing. The quality of the meat/seafood is not great. The shrimp was verging on funky both times. The beef was bland and chewy. The couple of dishes I've ordered have had so much watery sauce, it just ruined it. I'm used to rich, thick sauces coating everything, and that's just not the case here. I'd say everything is pretty bland and underwhelming. I would really recommend just skipping the place.

DO NOT EAT HERE!! Aside from the worst customer service the food is horrible. Well, what food you receive. My husband and I had delivery and they didn't give us our soup. When we called about it the lady hung up on me.Really August moon, REALLY? Let's not forget about the 2 hour wait time with cold cold cold food. Such a disappointment all the way around. Save some time. DO NOT EAT HERE!

I ate here in February, 2014. Because I'm trying to avoid GMOs, I asked them what kind of oil they use in a certain dish. They told me vegetable oil. I asked them what kind of vegetable oil. The server went to ask someone in the back. She came back and said they don't know what kind of vegetable oil they use. If restaurant management doesn't care enough to know specifically what kind of ingredients they use in their food, I'm not interested in eating there.

We have had delivery dudes deliver this Chinese several times. It is great. It tastes like the ingredients are fresh and less msg or none is used. It is not inexpensive as a very good dinner for four might cost $50 with tip and delivery. But you will likely have lunch tomorrow too. And it's even better the next day! A Casa DeMarco B&B recommended place.

Tried this place for lunch today, and I'm not impressed. Admittedly, I chose it because of the cheap prices and convenient online ordering, but they fell short of even my low expectations. First, it took them nearly half an hour to make my order, leaving me sitting in the restaurant when I thought I'd have time to pick up and eat on the waterfront. (Sorry I tipped ahead of time.) I got back to work to find my tofu and veggies has zero tofu. So much for protein for lunch. The sauce is bland and thin. The egg roll included is old and mushy - no sign of crispness - and even a little sour tasting. I don't think I'll give August Moon another chance.

Tried to like this place as it's tough to find Chinese delivery in Portland. I ordered through their website (Actually the horrible Eat 24 service) and after 2 hours of waiting was told they needed 10-15 minutes more. Waited another half hour, was told the same story. Cancelled order.

Decent food, they're quite busy & that says something. I was seated immediately & had my meal in about 5 minutes. I would definitely make a return trip though there are a lot of options nearby that I may try.

I have been a regular of August moon, through the Grub Hub app. A punch on my phone and Chinese food at my door in 30 minutes. Awesome! I have always been happy with the food and delivery. Unfortunately this last time was so awful, I won't order again. It took 2 hours from the time of order, and there were items missing from my order. Grub Hub's answer was to send me $5 in grub bucks that has to be used in 30 days. Right. First of all it was about $9 in food that was missing, and I waited 2 hours! I doubt I am going to use Grub Hub again, and even if it were to happen again, it won't be in 30 days. It takes longer than 30 days to forget how frustrating that experience was......

This is one of my favorite places to get lunch at in the downtown area. They have a really good lunch special at about $5.00 and the portion is overwhelming for the price. The sweet and sour chicken is my favorite. Try to get there before noon, it is a popular destination for lunch and can get busy.

I wanted some Chinese delivered, and decided to give this place a try. First off, delivery time: 41 minutes. Longer than I expected, as I live ten blocks away and it was a Tuesday evening. Food quality: I got shrimp lo mein, sweet and sour shrimp, potstickers, and fried crab wontons. All of it was mediocre at best. It wasn't bad, and the portions were okay. I'll give them two stars. Not terrible, but it could be so much better. I'd order again if I were desperate, but I'll be trying every other Chinese place that delivers first.

**UPDATE: So, I ordered the same thing this weekend while I was at work, but in bigger portions. I ordered the Broccoli Mushroom w/ Garlic Sauce and was told it would be ready in 10 mins. I went downstairs, picked up my order and came back up to work. I started eating the Broccoli Mushroom and realized there was nothing except broccoli. So basically, I ordered a huge portion of stir fried broccoli for $8. Mad (and confused), I called the lady back and told her she forgot my mushrooms in my dish. She was confused (or acted like she was confused), and tried to lie to me about the straw bamboo being the "mushrooms". I told her, "No, those are NOT mushrooms. I ordered this last week and I received actual mushrooms." Her: "No no, the stringys are mushrooms!" Me: "Um NO, I have ordered this dish before and this is NOT how it looks like. Where are my mushrooms." Her: "Oh. Oh okay..." *awkward pause* Me: "So, can you fix this?" Her: "Oh oh.." (???!!!) Me: "I'm upset, I don't like this." (I didn't know how else to tell her I was unhappy) So basically she told me she was going to refund me so I went downstairs. I see her and she opens the cash register and tries to give me a $1. I said, "I paid $8 for that dish." She shakes her head and tells me she can't give me any money. I tell her to make me a new Broccoli Mushroom dish and she goes, "Fine, have a seat." I waited for my order and when it was done, she handed it over in a to-go box for me and apologized. They got it right the second time. I heard the August Moon on NW 23rd is better than this one, so maybe I will try the other location if I get desperate for Chinese food again.

I work not too far from August Moon and have walked past the restaurant dozens of times. At lunch, the place is often packed. It looks inviting, most of the place under a glassed skylight attached to a high rise building. The menu was pretty standard for an 'American' Chinese restaurant, and the fairly priced lunch special came with an egg roll. The service was decent. The food, however, when it showed up was lackluster. The egg roll was mostly made up of the crunchy shell with hardly any veggies inside. The chicken dish I ordered was drowned in sauce making everything a soggy sticky mess, The rice literally had a bit of scrambled eggs in the middle of the rice pile. We received no fortune cookie, that made me sad. I'll probably walk past the place another couple dozens times before stopping in again.

Not the worst Chinese in portland, but definitely not great. Pretty greasy, a little too expensive for what it is, but satisfies msg cravings and the mushu is actually really good. Their online menu says no delivery fee but we ordered by phone & they charged us an extra $2. My only real problem here is it took 2 hours to get here and I live less than a mile from the restaurant, otherwise it was not an unpleasant experience.

Where do I start with this place? This is a type of place that if you have a craving for something this might some what fill it in until you go home to your local Chinese restaurant. For instance, you have a craving for Kung Pao Chicken, yeah you go to the window and ask for it and pay $4.50 for it. It's not great, but it's not terrible either, it just fills your craving. The problem with this place is that the food will either be tasteless, salty, spicy or too sweet...and that's for a typical same dish if you order the same thing over and over. You get what you pay for, that's August Moon for you. The service is rubbish, the menu is tacky and the food is...mysterious. There is no way a table of two should have their food not come out the same time. It's simple. The food should be given to the table of two at the same time, not in ten minute intervals. It's the same way each time, whether your the first table or the last. Don't go there when it's completly packed unless your not afraid of calling to your boss telling them that your going to be late coming back from lunch as you wait for your food. This happens a lot when it gets busy at lunch. The wait staff and the cooks don't appear to have any commnication with each other. The food taste the same. Beef brocolli, Kung Pao, cashew chicken, if it's all the same. You want spicy chicken chow mein? Expect to drink a gallon of water, it's either not spicy enough or too spicy. Asking for soy sauce is tough. They have it in the fridge for some reason which is beyond me. The minute you add any sauce to a meal, your meal will be cold. The fortune cookies tastes like cardboard. If anything this place is consistant at, it's being inconsistant.

I posted here a few years ago so I though I would post again. I know this place gets bad reviews but this place has always been good to us. They seriously have THE BEST sesame chicken in Portland. They make it with a thick sweet sauce and it is to die for. Yep, it's sweet, almost like candy sweet. I will always go here to get my sesame chicken. I find the staff very friendly. We usually call ahead and to take out and it is ready in 15 minutes.

Made an online order at 8:30pm, an hour later it had yet to arrive. We called just before 10pm, unfortunately that was closing time. They said sorry we're closed maybe you ordered from a different August Moon. Well, I've never had the food and sadly I probably never will.

After waiting over an hour for the delivery, the food arrived and it was colder than the Coca Cola I ordered to drink with it.

They deliver downtown and SW. It's cheap and fast. Now we're not talking gourmet, but for quick Chinese delivery it's great. It's not the healthiest, food's a little greasy, but that's what I'm looking for when the I get the calling for August Moon.

All around bad. Delivery took an hour and a half. The food was overpriced for the quantity I received. The taste was pure salt, with almost no other flavor. The eggroll was a cheap, frozen, grocery-store style eggroll. I definitely will not eat here again.

NO THANKS.

The food is so-so. It's definitely not satisfying my chinese food craving. I would still eat here if everything else was closed, but not after the service today. It took them over 2 hours to deliver food to me. So I would say if you have no other option, then a walk in would be alright. But never order delivery!

Cheap Chinese food -- lacks luster, most dishes taste similar. Only thing I think is worthwhile at this place is if you are craving that crunchy day-glow orange sweet and sour chicken or pork. Mmmmm....day-glow. Sometimes you needs it!

This place is close to my office, so it's convenient. It has a walk-up lunch order window that certainly makes getting a quick lunch easy. I also eat inside and have never had terrible service. The service here is average. Nothing to write home about. The food is standard Americanized Chinese food, but even my Chinese friend says it's not bad.

its cheap chinese food. granted its not "authentic" but its good for the price you get it at.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
