I had a bad experience on a take out order where the service was horrid. I paid the bill with cash and the guy put my money in the tip jar and made change out of the tip jar. Doesn't seem like that was on the up an up. The food was good, but a "I'll be right with you," would go along way to improving the service. I think there's better service for dine in, at least on this particular night. I am a fan of the food, so I'll be back.

Near perfect Thai food served in a former loggers restaurant which originally opened in 40's. Large portions, huge menu, reasonable prices and an American menu for the kids. The owner is from Laos and is as sweet as can be. I stayed a week in Corvallis and ate there 4 times. A real gem!

Meah... I wouldn't come back. Got the pad Thai dish, was wayyy to salty and too much soy sauce. Big portions, but what's the point if you don't wanna eat it? Wouldn't recommend.

Great Thai food in a kitschy setting. The Woodsman still had its rugged appearance, with a revamped menu. There is also the traditional "American" menu, but come here for the Thai food. The Tom Kha (spicy coconut soup) is delicious and the presentation will impress your dining companions. I really like (and almost always order) the crispy chicken with basil and green beans (number 88 on the menu), but be careful not to break a tooth on the bones that are left in. The noodle dishes are consistently good as well. Most dishes are in the $10-15 range. Friendly service and a full bar seals the deal. I think this place would be great for a casual date night if you enjoy surprises. Highly recommended for an unusual, but tasty, meal.

Don't let the exterior or mill worker decor fool you, this place is one of the best kept Thai food secrets on the area. The portions are generous and the food is fantastic. If your a spicy food lover who is constantly disappointed by the hottest offerings this is your place...the extra spicy is out of this world. Unlike so many other places were spicy means more red pepper flakes here it means your meal is cooked in peppers and will be truly hot. The place looks like a dive both outside and inside but for spicy Thai food you simply cannot go wrong. Highly recommended!

Great Thai food where you would least expect to find it. Looks like a bar/lounge type building but actually quite nice inside. Had the Hot basil & chicked with rice stir fry and was very good. At first I thought the prices might be a little steep but after seeing large portions of food I realized it was worth evry penny. I will defintely stop and try another of theor menu items next time I'm in the aera. Was a great find!

Amazingly flavorful food. Short drive from corvallis, and totally worth it. Philomath's restaurant gem.

The Thai food is great bere, everything and you can choose how spicy and it does get hot!

Wonderful waitstaff. Great drinks; mojitos are fabulous there!! Food is delicious; my favorite is the mango sticky rice with coconut ice cream of course!!

  • Ashley L.

great menu, I just hate the prices... super expensive for Thai. Haven't tried the American menu. the decor is something else, it's unique without trying to hard!

This restaurant came highly recommended to me so my wife and I biked 6 miles from Corvallis to try it out for a fun date. We had high hopes but sadly it fell short of our expectations. The service was fine but the food tasted unlike any other Thai food we'd had before. The pot stickers weren't too bad. The pad Thai dishes were HUGE, which might not be a bad thing but if we had known that the lunch size would feed 3 people we wouldn't have ordered two plates. The sauce they used didn't taste like pad Thai should, it was more of a bbq flavor or something odd...all in all we spent $26 during the lunch hour for way more food than we could eat (again, great news if it's delicious!) and we ended up having to toss it because neither of us were into it. We wish we could give a better review!

Bring your appetite. You should not leave hungry. I tend to get one of the Thai options, but my wife just cannot pass up there great burgers. I always have to take a break before I can finish my meal. Whew that's a lot of food.

Do not let appearances fool you. This place is Thai yumminess bliss--a mouth-gasm. You would never expect such amazing flavors and Thai food from this place. A hidden gem that should be experienced daily. Oh my heavens! If you're a Thai food snob, this place will set your standard even higher. Yum, yum, yum.

As said in other reviews, this place is a hidden gem. Would not have guessed that Thai food was served here, let alone delicious Thai food. The food here is fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. My favorite dish is Pad See Ew, and they always get it right. The staff are also very nice.

  • Jennifer A.

I heard from the librarian down the road that the newest owners are Thai, hence the dichotomy of burgers & curries. I also heard that the staff can be very slow, but she was wonderfully friendly & competent. One person juggling the bar crowd & 5 tables with ease! The portions are huge & pricey $13-15, so be prepared for a full meal to take home.

  • Greg D.

Great variety in the menu and every dish is hot, delicious and PLENTIFUL. Wow it's a lot of food. The owner is awesome and accommodating, the flavors are powerful and awesome and you won't leave there hungry or dissatisfied. Best Thai in the Corvallis area and better than most I've had anywhere.

Nice service! And food taste great, however with a very large portion. Still love it!!

Ok, this place is kind of odd, it's American/Thai. Sandwiches and Thai food. That said, this was pretty good food. It had a kind of local feel, and isn't really a stand out Thai place. I heard this used to be a biker bar of some type before the new management took it over. I went here for a business lunch. Two of us ordered Yakisoba, one ordered a sandwich, and then a curry dish of some kind. The food was surprisingly good. I haven't been to other Thai restaurants around Corvallis, in fact this was my only meal there, but the food was definitely above expectations. Definitely worth a repeat visit. May be I'll try the sandwich next time. :)

Stopped by the Woodsman on a busy Saturday evening, the server was doing a good job in a busy situation. The food was slow coming out of the kitchen, lots of to-go orders going out the door. I had higher expectations for the food given the reviews I had read. I had the stir fried cashews dish, it was really heavy on whatever sauce was used on the dish, so much so that what I thought would be fresh vegetables were absolutely smothered in the stuff, just a little too much of a good thing. One of the strong points were the drinks, mixed well and not watered down. We will go back but will explore different parts of the very large menu. The interior of the restaurant needs little higher level of upkeep, don't look up into the round hanging fixtures, spider webs, and nasty looking spots on the paint. It wouldn't take much to make the interior more acceptable , also the traffic in and out of the gambling room was a little distracting.

Yum... Their apps, their soup, noodles, all delicious... As good as the Thai restaurants in San Francisco... Yummy

Kind of crowded when I was there but they have some good food good selection of Oregon beers. Pad tai can't go wrong.

  • Pam R.

Don't let the appearance of the building and interior sway you from the great Thai food. The yellow and red curries were both fabulous, and both unique in the flavor blend. HUGE portions, our party of 6 shared 4 entrees and 2 appetizers - and still brought home leftovers for lunch the next day! Good selection of craft beers, too!

What an incredibly warm and cozy place. The staff, the food, the atmosphere all great

  • Carol N.

Pleasant surprise. The food was good, not the best but surprisingly good. Everything I tried was authentic. The flat noodle dish was a bit too salty but the papaya salad was really good so was the mango sticky rice. With being half Thai half Chinese, I always looking for good Thai food everywhere I go. Surely didn't expect that from Corvallis but am excited to found this restaurant.

based on the Yelp reviews, I decided to have lunch at the Woodsman on the outskirts of Philomath. They purport to be a Thai restaurant and although they have an extensive menu, the dishes i tried were mediocre, at best....Their stir fried green beans were swimming in what tasted like beef broth from a can with a few spices in it.....and a flavor that I have to say, was uniquely unrecognizable. the crispy tofu was extremely rubbery I also had the Spinach Palam and this dish featured spinach drenched in coconut milk and curry...delicious fresh spinach, ruined by a bath of sauce...the few pieces of salmon i ordered to go along with this dish were completely masked by the overly rich flavor of the sauces. There was literally a pool of sauce in the trough of the very large plate that supported the food.. I was so disappointed. i love Asian cuisine, having experienced very good samplings in New York City, San Francisco and Seattle. i will give this place another try at one point, but i will steer away from these dishes and maybe now, ask a few more questions about how the food is prepared and served

I see a few not so stellar reviews and the people seem to be put off by the aesthetics of The Woodsman. This place may seem divey, things may not all match but it is clean and the service is friendly. If you can handle that you will have a great time. We had thanksgiving here last year with a friend from Corvallis. We love Thai food and we loved The Woodsman! My other half is a chef and Thai is his go to food, he has eaten it all over the country and he has eaten a lot of it. He asked to speak to the chef and tell him how this is the best Thai food he has ever had. I agreed! Perfect flavor and heat! We had the green curry, Tom Kah, drunk noodles, duck, mango sticky rice and the appetizer sampler. We were stuffed and went home with leftovers. It was thanksgiving so they were not busy, we had the place to ourselves. The service was great and very friendly. The server was in a great mood for working Thanksgiving and fun. This is going to be our Thanksgiving tradition each year! Seriously great Thai food. Thanks for the food and for being open on the Holiday!

Very good food in a sawmill themed joint. This place is like an urban legend. I like it better than the Thai places in Corvallis. I haven't tried their non-Thai menu. The portions are tremendous and the entrees are a good value simply by a price to calorie ratio. The food is delicious and you'll be glad to have gotten 3 or 4 meals out of your one entree. The staff are nice. If you live in the area, you have to try this place, if only just to know it exists.

  • Emilee D.

Great Thai food! I loved the pad thai and my friend's green curry was to die for! The staff was friendly. We really weren't expecting good Thai at a place like this... So we were pleasantly surprised. The menu is American and Thai and the decor inside is all logging themed. Worth the trip! An awesome find for sure!!

Had really good Thai food and very good service tonight. This place is such an anomaly for Philomath. Loses one star for atmosphere, splintery chopsticks, and wobbly tables. Ordered the Tom Kah soup which was excellent. We also ordered the pad see eew. It was really flavorful, but there was something wrong with the noodles. Most of them were broken little chunks. There were some good wide ones but usually they were spooning with another noodle or two. So you ended up with these wide noodle bundles. I would still give it 4 stars because I have had the same dish there before and didn't have that issue.

Awesome wait staff! Great food. Nice little hole in the wall tucked away. Must try. Good little Thai American niche they have going on.

What a hidden gem. If you haven't been there for the Thai food (haven't tried other American selections) you are missing out. All of the curries are awesome.

Absolutely fantastic Thai food! I'm not a gourmet by any stretch of the imagination, nor do I proclaim to be an expert on Thai, but I know what I like, and this place hits every mark. I usually gauge my initial opinion of a Thai place on two dishes: Pad Thai and Tom Kha Gai soup. A win is simple: The Pad Thai needs to not be "ketchup" Pad Thai and The Tom Kha needs to be a thicker-than-water soup that doesn't skimp on the coconut milk, and has a hearty mix of vegetables and whatever meat you order with it. Now, I don't know if that's "authentic" or not, but, The Woodsman doesn't disappoint on either count. Absolutely superb. I do wish they'd offer Mee Krob/Mi Krop, but I'm not going to mark them down for that.

Huge portions and good thai food. What more can you ask for?

  • Keith P.

The Woodsman is a hidden gem. The thai food is the best in the area and everyone knows it. Don't let the dank exterior fool you, come on in for some EXCELLENT thai food. I like getting the crispy tofu on most dishes, and my most recent favorite is the Thai String Bean with crispy tofu. You can't really go wrong with any dish here though. My only complaint is that they close at 9PM.

My partner and I were driving to the beach and stopped in for lunch. We were the only customers at the time. The service was prompt. The number of pages in the menu is daunting, but we settled on spicy fried rice and green curry. It arrived quickly and we were quite pleased. The spicy fried rice was redolent with Thai basil and was pleasantly spiced. The curry dish was excellent and served on a bed of rice noodles since my partner is gluten free. The owner and head chef Nang came out and sat with us for a while and we enjoyed talking with her. I lived in Thailand and know Thai cuisine and this is excellent! My only recommendation is that they trim down the menu and reorganize it. But, we will be back!

Thank you Yelp, looking at this place I never would have stopped here if I hadn't read the reviews first! Divey and the cook set off the smoke alarm but huge choice of food, which turned out to be fresh and delicious. For a vegetarian to find a place with so many choice in a small town like Philomath was a pleasant surprise.

A Thai restaurant with old saws, pictures of wood camps, and a huge old chainsaw is already pretty cool. But ... the massive platters of food here are very tasty. I eat a lot, and this is truly a ginourmous amount of food (as well it should be, 'cause it ain't cheap.) The service is great--they were happy to make vegan thai iced tea with coconut milk, and even though the food isn't spicy, they give you a bottle of Siracha to spice it up as wish. Tasty food, good service, interesting decor = a real win, and one of the best Thai places in Oregon that I've been to.

I'm not sure what you could want more in a great Thai restaurant. The food was amazing and the service was fine. Pad Thai is always the test dish. It was fresh and had that perfect balance of sweet, salty, and savory. The veggies were crisp so you also had a nice balance of textures. We also got the yellow curry with beef. Really well done as well. The curry had a heat that sneaked up on you and was just sweet enough, but not too sweet, as so many currys can be. We had so much Pad Thai that the curry is today's lunch! you. The potstickers for our appetizer were equally great. Freshly made and they stradled that fine line between chewy and tender. Yum! Whenever I come back to Corvallis to visit my daughter this will be at the top of my list.

If you know anything about Philomath, it seems weird to have a Thai restaurant in the middle of a logging town. But this is GOOD food. I get the Pad See Ewe every time and it is always phenomenal. My husband, not a giant Thai food fan, gets the turkey Reuben and loves it, and the kids split a chicken strip plate with no problems. (Incidentally, without admitting I've stolen food from children, the chicken strips are deliciously crispy, moist, and flavorful.) There's always more than enough food per plate. The one time there was a problem with my order, it was taken back with horror and the cook herself came out with a new dish and profuse apologies. I was even treated to some free house-made coconut ice cream afterward. I would never have thought I liked coconut ice cream, but it's great! Try some when you visit!

  • Weili Z.

The outside definitely fooled me. The thai food is amazing with lots of subtle flavors. Definitely a hidden gem in the local region. Portion sizes is huge, able to feed two people with normal appetite - sadly I'm not one of those and I finished the whole plate myself... with a very happy tummy and a very unhappy weight afterwards. O:) Yum.... P.S. I ordered my usual drunken tofu - mild.

I am sooo glad Woodsman is in this area! The other thai restaurants in Corvallis do not hold candle to this place. Like most Thai restaurants I have been to, they only seem to perfect one entree and the rest are okay! The one that woodsman has perfected are its curries! The green and red curries were awesome! Especially on those cold winter days where you just need some comfort food! I have heard their noodles are good too, but I haven't tried them yet! Their fried rice had a weird aftertaste to it the one time I decided to order something other than curry! Couldn't pin point what it is but I have never tried fried rice here since. So minus 1 star for that! The service is awesome! The chef is really nice and sometimes comes out near the bar area to chat!! A lot of times we order to-go but dinning here is a great experience too!

I drove by it once -- actually twice -- before deciding to turn around and give it a try. From the outside it looks semi-sketchy but don't let it deceive you. The inside isn't the most updated but it doesn't matter; the food is amazing. The room is divided into two parts - the bar and the family-friendly dining area. I ordered the chicken pad thai (during the lunch hour) and the portion was just as big as a dinner portion, but for like almost half the price. Staff is very friendly and there are so many options, I'll have to try something different next time.

Had it not been for other reviews, I would have never ventured in. The last time I in The Woodsman (Tavern) it was a logger and biker bar, mullets were in style (the first time) for most 'patrons' and it was the a time in college I knew I had ventured onto an unwise path. 'Nuf said. The Woodsman Dining, is a whole different world. I suppose the decor is similar (but frankly I can't remember), but that's where the similarities stop. The Woodsman is an excellent Thai restaurant with a vast menu. What you get is fresh food, nicely seasoned and large (really) portions in a no-non-sense setting. It was a busy Tuesday night after 7, but service was good. The restaurant is split 50/50 bar/family dining which is a plus for those who choose to eat without kids. Ordered too much food. Started by sharing pot stickers (almost a meal in itself) and then had Shrimp Pad Thai and Salmon Panang Curry as our two main courses. The Pad Thai had excellent flavor, such a generous helping had to bring more than half home. The Salmon Panang came with a really nice salad with a peanut dressing. But what really surprised me was the fact that the Salmon Panang was a very large salmon fillet in Panang sauce with very nice steamed vegtables. Not pieces of a Salmon, but a complete filet as large as any entry. The Panang sauce was excellent. Not terribly spicy (although you can ask to increase the heat), but really great flavor. Nothing was over-salted or over-cooked. It was really nicely done. The ambiance, while fine, isn't the best for a quiet, private dinner. Very casual, but totally fine. Food (especially at the price) is a five. Seating, is probably a 4 (especially if sitting in the middle of the room). If I could give 4.5 I probably would. I'm going to round up though, because I'm so blown away this was in Philomath and it's a restaurant that deserves to do really well! Because Yelp hasn't added my Business Info updates: Address: Woodsman Dining 529 Main St Philomath, OR 97370 Google Map Link: bit.ly/158Qmy Phone: 541-929-4500 Hours: Daily until 9pm

Listen up kiddies, I'm only going to tell this story once... This establishment long held the dubious honor of being the orneriest logger bar in Philomath. Check out the establishment across the street or the one just up the road to the east to get an idea of the competition it beat out for this honor. The front door handle used to be an imbedded hatchet, fer chrissakes! To those of you confounded by the incongruous interior decor, it's a respectful nod to the history of the place. I think it's really cool that the current owners chose to do this. I've only eaten off of the Thai menu here, maybe 6-8 times, and it is good. Portions are huge. However, I've noticed that when re-ordering an entree during subsequent visits, the recipe seems to vary dramatically sometimes. It's always tasty though. Also, those who like to complain about other Thai restaurants serving "inauthentic" Thai food might be put off by some of the interesting, novel deviations the chef sometimes takes here. Apples in the Panang curry? I was shocked when I saw it, but after I took my first bite I was quite OK with it. This is a great place to stop on the way home from the coast, by the way...

Whoa there. This is one of those places that's extremely hard to rate. On one hand, I want to give it five stars because it's...well...hmm... unique... and I love places like logger bars slash Thai restaurants. On the other, I am judging its Thai food against that of a lot of other places in the Valley which are honestly quite a bit better taste-wise. We ordered Pad Thai and some spring roll appetizers to split. The spring rolls were handmade. Mostly deep-fried wonton-type wrapper with some lettuce thrown in, but hey, nothing wrong with deep-fried goodness. Really good goodness. The Pad Thai was enormous. Plenty for two people, even two pretty hungry people. As it should be for $13.95... Unfortunately it's one of those dishes that you really should be able to get right, and I wasn't a fan of their version. The noodles had been overcooked and oversauced - sticking together in huge gelatinous globs and not all that tasty despite all the sauce. There was no spice in the dish that I could find. A little bit of chili or even sugar to sweeten it up would've gone a long way. For $20 or so for two, it was an okay dinner, and an, um, cultural experience. Glad we didn't order a second dish though, as that would've made for some serious leftovers. To top off the odd experience of eating Thai in a logger bar in Philomath, the waitress/bartender was also super-out-of-place... absolutely scorching hot and had what I think was an eastern European accent. Maybe I should stop trying to make sense of The Woodsman and just accept it for what it is.

  • Em C.

It has to be called "The Woodsman" because "Actually We Have Really Good Thai Food Here But We're In Philomath So We Have To Have A Name With A Logging Reference" wouldn't fit on the sign. Best Thai in the Corvallis area, though it's funny there are two distinctly different clientele seated in the same diningroom- those who appreciate mildly spiced food, and those drinking their dinner.

Love this place. Extensive menu, generous portions, historic Oregon decor. Driving past I never really co nsidered stopping in because it looks like a standard burger and streak joint, but after enough people recommended the Thai menu I decided to give it a try. I've been glad ever since! The pumpkin curry is amazing, definitely my favorite dish.

Being out in Philomath, don't really get to come out here that often. When we do though, it sure is worth it. Had the 88 Crispy Chicken and Green Beans after reading how good it is in another review and it was really good. Decently spicy sauce and chicken was nice and crispy, just make sure you watch out for bones as it is chopped chicken pieces. Tried their fried appetizer combo too, which was ok. Out of the assortment, their crab wontons, which they called cream puffs, were better than average, and the little vegetarian rolls were pretty good. Summary: huge portions of really tasty food. They don't skimp on the good stuff either, at least 1/4 of my crispy chicken dish was some kickin thai basil.

My better half and I were house-sitting for my dad out in Philomath, and after scanning Yelp I was surprised to find there was a Thai place out there. We decided to go get some take-out, as we both love Thai food a lot. The decor inside leaves something to be desired, personally. It felt really run down. My bf handled all the transactions with the waiter as he placed our order and paid, and he felt like the guy was rude. He said he basically threw his card on the counter after running it instead of handing it back to him. I wasn't present so I can't attest to that, but I didn't get the feeling that the service was particularly welcoming or nice. We ordered the Pad Thai and a basil string bean tofu dish. It was EXPENSIVE. Like $25 for two dishes. We're poor college students, so this seems substantial to me. After getting the food home, I thought the Pad Thai was awful. And I feel bad saying that, because Pad Thai is probably one of my favorite dishes on earth, and I really really wanted to like it. But it had a weird taste...like they threw an old boot into the pan with it or something. The bf insisted he liked it and I happily allowed him to keep it to himself. The basil string beans were very tasty as was the tofu in it. My bf incidentally did not enjoy it so we ended up keeping our respective dishes to ourselves. My only complaint was there was a huge puddle of oil in the bottom of the box after I was done. Now they DO give large portions, which is great...but to me the price did not match the quality.

I never would have thought to try this place if a friend hadn't recommended it but I'm glad I did. We went there for lunch on a Tuesday and it was very easy to find. upon entering, we were greeted by a please seat yourself sign and found a table by where they keep the coloring books and crayons, always a great kid friendly sign! I had barely grabbed some for my son when the waitress came bringing water and menus. The menus were huge! They have a whole menu full of American food and a second slightly larger menu just for the Thai food. I was overwhelmed looking at the menu but had come here for the Thai food so I limited myself to looking only one menu over. I eventually decided on the Thai peanut dish from the lunch menu: veggies and protein smothered in peanut sauce served with a side of rice and my husband got the Drunken Noodles. You get to choose what kind of protein in your dish and I chose tofu while my husband chose beef. They had a kids menu but it consisted of American classics only (pasta, chicken strips, burgers, grilled cheese) so we decided to split my plate with our son. Our food came quite quickly given the size of our group and the waitress was very attentive. She brought out spicy sauces before the food came, I'm not into spice but the guys were very delighted at the prospect of killing themselves with burning food even faster. The peanut sauce on my dish was delicious as were the Drunken Noodles my husband ordered, though a little spicy for my tastes. the veggies were perfectly cooked and a little crisp. I also tried the Pad See Ewe with chicken my friend ordered. The chicken melted in your mouth and the sauce the dish was slathered in was like a sweet teriyaki and wonderful. The plates were huge and we were too stuffed to try any dessert. We ordered just 2 plates from the lunch menu for myself, my husband, and my son but we still brought home food - plan to go when you're very hungry! All in all, the friendly fast service and the awesome food deserve 5 stars and I can't wait to go back!

This isn't the first time I have been in a bar and have been amazed at the food even though the atmosphere is nothing to write home about (i.e countless bars in San Francisco and ALL of the Chinese food in PDX). The Woodsman fits perfectly in the "don't judge a book buy it's cover" category, the only reason it is at the top of that list is that it is in Philomath, in an old biker bar. The menu is quite extensive. I went in there looking for my favorite noodle dish though but they didn't have Pad Kee Mao :( so I decided to go with the standard of Pad Thai. Any dish on their menu can be ordered with chicken, beef, pork or tofu. Dishes can be upgraded to shrimp or mixed seafood. I went with the beef. I ordered the dish to-go and after paying I thought it was on the expensive side until I picked it up and noticed the box was filled densely to the top. The dish was great, fresh with a nice lime flavor and of course a good peanut flavor, they didn't skimp on the meat in the dish either, it was done perfectly. On future visits I found the service to be warm and the food portions continue to be huge. It is worth the trip.

I go often to this place. Menu is really long and portions are huge. Its a Thai'ish restaurant. The taste of dishes is good. I love this place and the owner lady. she is very friendly. It has a different decor (lumber saws hanging from the roof - safely of course).

I heard about their Thai food for a long time before i finally tried it! It is the best Thai food in this area. I have Pad Thai, my husband had the sweet basil pork. Both were great. Mine could have used a bit of spice, but the portions were HUGE and the taste was great. So glad we finally have a great place to get Thai. I didn't give them 5 stars because i feel it is a bit overpriced. #corvSMB

This place is great for comfortable thai food. It's certainly not traditional but the food is good. If you claim to be a thai food fan and you only eat pad thai, it's time to man up and eat something real. This restaurant is the perfect place to do it. They cater to American's so the dishes are not 100% authentic but your sure to enjoy. Lastly, huge portions, try to share.

Cool place, great thai food and they also have more "american" cuisine for those that don't like thai. I love the Pad thai and the drunken noodles are good as well.

We ate there again tonight and it was excellent. We both had the appetizer platter. Everything was great. Nothing was too spicy, but if you want it hot their chili oil is smokin. They give you a lot of food. 1 order of Pad Thai feeds both my girlfriend and I for at least 2 meals. Coconut ice cream is delicious. we ordered 2 ice creams to go and there was about a pint in each. We have gone several times over the last few years and has always been great. I would rate the American food as average. I agree with the reviewer who said this is the best Asian food in the area.

When my parents told me that they had amazing Thai food at the Woodsman, I thought they must be on crack, because driving by - I have to say - The Woodsman looks like a biker bar on your way to the middle of Jabooty-Nowhere! This is not the case! Don't let the fact that the Woodsman is housed in the oldest building (being used for commercial purposes) in all of Philomath fool you. Yes, it has a full bar within it's humble frame, but it also houses the best Thai food I have ever had! Portions are gigantic (I must say!), the food is wonderful (though I have to say the Thai entrees they make beat the pants off some of their other dishes), and the staff are all lovely! Word to the wise: don't let the little owner's demeanor fool you. Do NOT challenge this woman's credentials in the spicy department. She will mop the floor with you, smile sweetly, and just walk away.

The decore at this place is very different but i liked the food. The pad thai was to die for and i liked my beer. I also think its cute that they have basil plants on the tables. Very unique

Why haven't I been going to this place for years? Stopped in last night with the SO for dinner in the middle of a driving rain storm. Service was fast and attentive. At the Yelposphere's advice, I had the Drunken Noodles, and she had the pad thai. Best darn Thai food in the valley, for sure. The servings were huge, delicious, and tasted fresh. We decided to save room for dessert by packing up half our dinner (it made a great breakfast this morning). Right choice. The coconut ice cream with mango and sticky rice is divine. Word to the wise: Woodsman it up soon.

What a crazy place. Definitely an old hangout for timber guys. It's been bought by some asian women who kept the old burger, sandwich, soup, steak menu, but added a complete Thai menu. Wow. You can't eat drunken noodles under an old painted cross-cut saw very many places, but you can here. While I've had better Thai food, this ain't bad for Philomath.

This place looks like a plain tavern in Philomath, tucked in alonngside the highway 34 to Newport. But...don't drive by.....stop...Amazing, fresh, delicious, authentic REAL Thai food -- had the drunken noodles with shrimp and pad thai - extra spicy and zesty.Large portions, too. The best thai food in the Willamette valley area for sure. This place also has a full bar and real, American food! With almost 100 items on the menu, you will find that perfect dish.... #Corvsmb

Not bad at all. Best thing on the Thai menu is the Thom Kha Gai soup, but you must share with a group. If everything was that good I would give it 5 stars. The rest of the food is only so so on the Thai scale but the cute little Loatian owner is so sweet, the service is great and the price is right, I give it one $ cause you can definitely share with a friend or two (once shared soup and pad thai with 3 others and we went home with leftovers). Enjoy!

First, the service and the iced tea were great. Now, the food. I had chicken strips and it appears as though they are not hand done but some Sysco/Food Services of America-type that one buys frozen, keeps frozen and pulls them out of the freezer when needed. I have had MUCH better chicken strips at a number of places in the valley so these were not the best. The ranch dip was the same. I would suggest that they hand bread their own and make their own ranch dip. Price was actually more than the better chicken strip places I have ate at. My business lunch account agreed and he had a hamburger and was less than pleased. I have not tried the Thai food there but have heard it was OK from some of my accounts. Don't think I will try, however.

This place is a dive, but the staff are always friendly and the food is great. Good variety and well, I won't repeat the other reviews, but this is the kind of place that we'll drive 10 miles just for take-out.

The mango/fried banana and house coconut ice cream platter is ridiculously awesome. Everyone that lives in, or visits Benton County must try it!

A hidden gem it is so great. The Tai food is the best and they have food to take care of everyone's craving. Do not miss the homemade coconut ice-cream. It looks rustic from the inside & out but it is all apart of the great experience. The best selection of local wines around. #CorvSMB

Can not get enough of the sweet and sour tofu! Its is crispy friend and to die for! Drunken Noodle is also really good and super spicy. The best I have had around this area. I also love that the place looks like a biker bar and is totally confusing. Not your typical thai place.

  • Lee W.

So glad someone told us about this place!! We never would have tried it, otherwise. Amazing food, and I love it that the old Woodsman cozy-biker-bar decor remains the same. I won't repeat all the glowing reviews already up here, but I could. I would make no changes. If you go when it's in season, do NOT miss the coconut ice cream, mango and sweet rice dessert.

The best Thai food in at least a 50 mile radius. My only qualm would be the moderately high prices. If it was a tad more affordable I would be here once a week. As it is, I think of their food at least that often. At least you get huge portions...

Yelp, why have you forsaken me. Perhaps it was an off night. Everyone else on Yelp seems to think this place is worth 5 stars... can't say I agree. Food was overpriced -- which would be fine if it knocked my socks off. Socks stayed on. We tried items from both the Thai and the *American* menus. I really don't need another local burger place. Tom Kha is good, but not any better than the canned variety I get from Safeway. I'd feel less bad about this meal if I'd spent less on it.

This restaurant has just shot to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in the Corvallis area. The crispy basil chicken was outstanding...great flavor and texture, with lovely crisp green beans. The owner is delightful. She stopped by our table to ask how our meal was. When we informed her that it was our first time there, she brought out a large sampling dessert plate of her homemade coconut ice cream and purple rice pudding. Both were delicious, but the coconut ice cream (with chunks of coconut) was divine. The menu was very extensive, and had both American and Thai items. I was particularly impressed at the selection of local Philomath area wine on the wine list; very reasonable by-the-glass prices. Portion sizes were large, prices were reasonable, and the spiciness level matched what the menu had indicated. Service was good and also quick. We will definitely be back!

One of the best kept secrets in Philomath. Great food, interesting decor. Good beers on tap, all in all a good place to visit. A few of our favs: Basil Chicken is great, spicy and hot...love it! Drunken noodle, I'd never had this before and was not dissapointed, spicy and delicious. Sri-ra-cha, sweet and spicy and oh, so good. If you're a desert kind of person, or even if you're not, you've got to try their homemade coconut ice cream, sometimes they serve it with mangoes, but by itself it's a special treat. And, for those at your table who are less adventuresome, there's a good old fashioned American menu, with burgers, salads and chicken strips. Try it, you won't be sorry!

I was in Philomath Saturday helping a friend pack, and she offered to take me out for lunch to The Woodsman. Anyone who knows Philomath knows The Woodsman is the best place in town! I have to admit, I am a bit overwhelmed with the amount of food choices on the menu; on the Thai side, you have 58 items to choose from, not including the dessert menu, and on the American side, you have another 58 choices! My friend ordered the special that day ~ stuffed chicken wings, and I ordered the Thai Cashew Nut with tofu. I was impressed with the portion sizes! The chicken wings my friend ordered looked more like large drum sticks ~ I'm not sure what they were stuffed with, but they looked Really good ...and she had no complaints! My cashew nut was pretty good; I didn't care much for the texture of the tofu, but all in all, it was good and the portion was Huge! I brought home enough left overs to feed my daughter and husband dinner :~) The Woodsman is definitely the place to go if you are looking for great food in Philomath!

Had my first beer in Philomath here. Love this old biker bar turned random secret Thai food place along HWY 20 to the coast. We always stop and get dinner here when the opportunity arises. Very comfortable, laid back, great food and large portions. Not to mention the atmospheric is great for our kids (7 and 3) or the sudden 3 family road trip stop for dinner.

Meah... I wouldn't come back. Got the pad Thai dish, was wayyy to salty and too much soy sauce. Big portions, but what's the point if you don't wanna eat it? Wouldn't recommend.

Near perfect Thai food served in a former loggers restaurant which originally opened in 40's. Large portions, huge menu, reasonable prices and an American menu for the kids. The owner is from Laos and is as sweet as can be. I stayed a week in Corvallis and ate there 4 times. A real gem!

  • RJ C.

  • Sally N.

  • Bob M.

  • Nichole S.

  • Nora B.

  • Meggie W.

#corvSMB
