Super good food. From the doughnuts to the burgers and everything in between. Food is always fresh and never disappointing. Amazing place to have breakfast and or lunch. Staff are great, a little quiet, but nonetheless super friendly. The owner John and his wife always greet us with 1000 watt smiles. It's a "Mom n Pop" joint that you will enjoy!
Came here to sample their lunch menu and tried the daily special of spinach and strawberry salad and cold rock (fruit) soup which were both outstanding. The salad was one of the best I've had in the area and the soup was tangy, unique, light, and refreshing. Their doughnuts may be the mainstay here, but the food menu is not to be missed! Also, it's super affordable.
Was looking for a donut and found better at NutCakes. The folded pies with filling(s) are so unique. I had the one with strawberry filling. Man was that a good choice. Perfectly baked with springy dough. The glaze wasn't overwhelming which was great. Also, had a maple bar which was average. Improved icing to dough ratio would be better. Had a few other donuts which were good flavoring. The biggest pit fall was the price of the donuts. 6 donuts for $9.50 is a little high. Overall this place is great to try but not for everyday unless you're getting small quantities.

Delicious! We had the taco salad and super burrito and both had fantastic flavors. The owner was very helpful and made sure we had the best. This casual place is fast. Is worth the drive into Philomath from Corvallis
Usually love this place but service seemed off today. Got questioned when I ordered salsa on the side rather than in my burrito, and they forgot my sour cream.
Most menu items are decent but they strangely have no grilled jalapenos or spicy carrots and the burritos are all rice. I mean, the burrito was huge but every bite was a mouthful of rice. I realize burritos aren't typically Mexican but ease up on the starch and be a bit more generous with the protein. Americans are fat enough as it is. Pros: cold beer Cons: did I mention rice?

I had a bad experience on a take out order where the service was horrid. I paid the bill with cash and the guy put my money in the tip jar and made change out of the tip jar. Doesn't seem like that was on the up an up. The food was good, but a "I'll be right with you," would go along way to improving the service. I think there's better service for dine in, at least on this particular night. I am a fan of the food, so I'll be back.
Near perfect Thai food served in a former loggers restaurant which originally opened in 40's. Large portions, huge menu, reasonable prices and an American menu for the kids. The owner is from Laos and is as sweet as can be. I stayed a week in Corvallis and ate there 4 times. A real gem!
Meah... I wouldn't come back. Got the pad Thai dish, was wayyy to salty and too much soy sauce. Big portions, but what's the point if you don't wanna eat it? Wouldn't recommend.

Ixtapa Mexican Restaurant

Recently moved to Alsea and Ixtapa is the nearest Mexican restaurant (about 20 miles) so was happy that we had a good dining experience during our first visit. The food was excellent, salsa and chips weren't too spicy . Service was good and the decor was better than expected. I would agree that the ceiling tile needs some work. My wife had a terrible gin and tonic but my margarita was good. We will be returning.
As a recent transplant to the Philomath area and a Mexican food junkie I was very pleased to find Ixtapa. Not authentic by any means but still very good. I love the lunch fajitas ($9.50)! I always end up with at least two sometimes three meals from them. All the accoutrements are there in generous portions - rice, beans, salad, tortillas, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo as well as fresh crunchy chips and delicious salsa. The marinade on the chicken is crazy good, the beans have that "clay pot" taste and everything is fresh, fresh, fresh!
Even though I live only five minutes away, this was my first lunch at Ixtapa in four years. If you like traditional, fresh Mexican food at a good price, this is the place to go- locally, authentically owned. They have a daily $5.00 lunch special - today we had the chicken chalupa. The beans are fresh and not laden with lard, the chips hot and toasty,. the salsa spicy, and the guacamole delish. If you're thinking of breaking the rules with an afternoon margarita, you should do it here. Service with a smile, too.

On our way to Newport this past Saturday, my family and I stopped in the CD&J Cafe in Philomath. We have gone by this place for Years and thought it might be a great place to get breakfast/lunch. We went in, sat down and when the waitress came over, my husband asked if they were still serving breakfast. The waitress said they served breakfast all day since they were only open until 3. So with that, my husband ordered the B&G with a side of bacon and sausage. Would you believe...they were out of gravy!! How do you run out of gravy if you are Making sausage or bacon ??!! They were also out of wheat toast...so he ordered the Denver omelet. The omelet was nothing to write home about. I ordered a basic turkey sandwich, one daughter ordered the hamburger special and the other daughter ordered a garden burger. Both burgers were okay, but lets talk about the "turkey" sandwich... I'm pretty sure the sandwich was made first because the bread was wet & soggy and smothered in Way too much mayo. If that wasn't enough to turn my stomach, the turkey was Not turkey! It was some sort of processed meat with an incredibly "spongy" texture. I was not able to get past the 2nd bite and I believe I may have offended the waitress when she asked if I was finished, the answer was yes and no, I do not need a to go box!
I stop here every time we go to Newport. This place is amazing for what it is. Podunk greasy spoon with classic diner fare, chipped tables, torn seats, mismatched plates, and breakfast until closing. One diner noted that they run out of gravy, which is true, since they close at 3, and they make it every morning. All the more reason to show up early. My favorite is the weekday special; $6 for an American breakfast before 11. If you get there early enough, you can see tables of old-timers in Dickeys and suspenders shooting the breeze, talking about the war and how gas is too expensive. These kinds of places won't be around in the future, so enjoy it while you can :)
This is a great breakfast spot, the biscuits and gravy were very good and the bacon lives up to their sign. Not fancy but a great breakfast and friendly service.
