We live one town over and this is where we always go when we want Mexican food. The shrimp tacos are to die for and the people who work there are very nice. It won't win any awards for the decor but the food is good and the price is right. To be blunt, there are nicer looking Mexican food places in Newberg/Dundee - but none of them come close to being as good.

Have you ever needed nachos? I mean like really needed nachos and just nothing else would do? That was me a couple of days ago after being out all day wine tasting. We found Taqueria Guererro on Yelp and were impressed by the positive reviews and also by recommendations from folks in the wine tasting rooms that we visited. What sealed the deal for me was the photo of the nachos. The restaurant sort of reminds me of a cafeteria; very bare bones sort of decor but the food is awesome. The chicken nachos were huge and was plenty for two people. They also have a really good salsa bar. In addition to the nachos I ordered a chicken enchilada with mole to go and had some of that this morning and it was really good as well. Next time I'm in wine country I can definitely see myself heading back to Taqueria Guererro for lunch or to pick up something to go for later. 2014 - Review # 93

Authentic food. Not tex-mex. good prices and pretty fast service. I would never have thought about trying, but I was thoroughly satisfied. Big portions and I would come again.

This place was surprisingly awesome! The burritos were fantastic and I loved the many salsas to choose from. A great place to visit after a day of wine tasting.

This is my new go-to place for tacos after my other place recently let me down. SO many awesome hot-sauces to choose from, and their tacos are GREAT. Reliable hours, fast and friendly service AND it's a store/deli!!!!! I love it!!!! Speaking of which, lots of reviews take off a star for decor....IT'S A DELI/STORE NOT A FULL-ON RESTAURANT!!! One of the reviews said "they didn't even ask if we liked the food afterwards"....? Ummm......because it's the equivalent of a taco truck. You get food, eat it, throw the utensils/containers away yourself and go. They don't have waiters. Just sayin'. I think the place is awesome.

Great tacos, burritos, nachos, as well as a decent selection of Mexican candies & grocery items. The only place for your emergency taco & nacho needs!

Not very fancy looking, on the inside, but we come for the food. The girls had tacos and I had the torta. I probably wouldn't do the torta again as I didn't enjoy the ingredients. The bread was excellent. Salsa and chips were tasty. Had one of the house drinks, which I enjoyed.

My absolute favorite mexican food anywhere. The adobada burrito is amazing. I like to try the burrito on special, because at $4.95 it's worth experimenting. Every one I've tried has been awesome. I like the wide selection of drinks, and the salsa bar. All of the sauces they make are incredible. To give you a point of reference, I often make my own Mexican food, al pastor, adovada, etc., and always make my own tortillas. I am very picky about tortillas, generally I stay away from flour tortillas because they are gummy. I like the flour tortillas. They are chewy and a little crispy. If I moved somewhere else, I would come back to Newberg just to get my burrito fix. The service is super friendly and food comes out very fast. I can't say enough about this place, give it a try and you won't be disappointed. Oh, and you're welcome.

Newberg Foodies: Tortillas made from scratch, amazing authentic mexican food with a salsa bar. Fresh prepped meat to purchase to cook too. Yes theres seating! Great prices and mole sauce and Enchiladas are out of this world! A must try! Luis and Cristina the owners came to our table to chat. Super nice family owned business.

5 stars all the way homes.. Fo real. The pastor tacos are off the chain. Jumping in my Caddie and taking all the homies here!

I went in to get take out for me and some friends. One of them has never had mole chicken enchiladas and he declared them to probably be "the best" mexican food he has ever had. I had a burrito and it was really tasty. While it took a little while to get the food, the quality and price I paid for it made it well worth the rate. The service was great - very helpful and cheerful - which I think is crucial for any place I want to bring my trade. Seating inside is pretty basic - I'd probably go somewhere else if I was looking for a "dining experience" - but for good food at a great price, I'll be going back again.

Excellent and well priced food. Delicious chicken fajita burrito, and the shrimp fajitas are to die for.

Chicken quesadilla was pretty great. Ingredients tastes fresh and the price was beyond reasonable. Definitely recommend.

I was totally torn as to what to order. Ended up getting the carnitas huarache, mostly because I love them, plus they're a bit more challenging to find than some other Mexican dishes (enchiladas, posole, tacos, etc). I do not regret this decision - the masa base was the perfect crispy/chewy balance. And I love that they have cortido on the salsa bar. Definitely the best Mexican food I've had in a LONG time; we're planning on making the drive from PDX on a regular basis just to eat here...

Guerrero is the best taqueria for miles. Everything is homemade. I usually get the fish tacos or the taquitos, but the burritos, soup, and everything else are absolutely amazing. This is my local Mexican place that I get cravings for at least every other week. One of my regular stops- give it a shot and you will see why.

Great stop on our way to McMinnville. Everyone was very friendly and the food was very delicious, authentic Mexican food. Yum!

Hmmmm! Super reviews from everybody! Maybe I hit them on a bad day or something. They were out of tamales at 3pm which I thought was odd, so I ordered the Mole Enchiladas plate instead to-go. Took a bit to make and it was just me and another guy there. Was it fresh? Yes. But honestly it was super bland. I'll go back and give another shot though.

If this place was in Portland it would be slammed. Unfortunately, it's usually pretty slow when I'm there, but damn... these are some of the freshest, most flavorful tacos around. The seafood tacos (they have shrimp and fish) are excellent and grilled without breading. They have a diverse offering of sauces and relishes, and on one visit, an employee took pride in telling me about the quality ingredients, including using olive oil instead of cheaper oils for the sauces. 99E has other quality taco options, but this place is the tops for me.

  • Lori H.

I didn't care for the food here at all. I had carnitas tacos which were gristly and dry. The fish tacos were just ok. Awful atmosphere, TV was blaring the whole time I would not go back.

Stopped in for breakfast while in Newberg, Oregon. The place is actually a deli that also sells food. That said, my meal was lacking . I had a breakfast burrito, it tasted like the what I ordered plus anything else that had been on the grill prior to my order. As a result, it wasn't particularly tasty. I've read the reviews and unfortunately this visit didn't cut the grade. I plan on being in Newberg for the next four years to see my daughter while she is in college. Hopefully the breakfast burrito will be better.

This little gem in Newberg was great! The asada enchiladas were delicious! I'm not a huge fan of enchiladas normally but next time I'm here I'll order my own because my husband was being rude and did not want to share! :) Decent prices and large portions.

  • Katie K.

I was looking for real Mexican tacos and this place did not disappoint! Between my husband and I, we tried the shrimp, pastor, chorizo, and asada tacos, all of which were excellent. We've been going to a taco truck in Beaverton for years but this place is so much closer and will definitely be our new taco place. The shop is a grocery, butcher, and restaurant all in one. You order at a counter then your food is delivered to you. The service was friendly and helpful and relatively quick. We will be back and tell our friends to stop too!

  • Cy W.

Recommended by Yelp reviews, we stopped by for a quick lunch on the way to the wineries. I ordered shrimp tacos and fish tacos. I had to say the yelpers were right and both were excellent. Shrimps and fish were seasoned and fried just right. The only negative is the lack of decor at the restaurant. But the tasty food definitely made up for it.

Great place for cheap, but delicious Mexican food! Pretty much everything is tasty and you never have to spend over $10 to be satisfied. They usually have a couple daily specials and these are always a good bet. Nothing elegant or outlandish here, just no-nonsense, tasty Mexican food!

  • Isadoro M.

It's a small Mexican grocery and meat market that also makes a full range of tacos, burritos, tortas, plates, etc. Fun place for lunch. Breakfast burritos sounded great as well. My chicken torta cubano was delicious, especially with the great salsa verde. Nice soft bread. Abundant avocado. Lift the lid next to the cash register for an assortment of all kinds of condiments and add-ons like the salsa verde and others. Very plain space, the opposite of pretentious, but friendly staff that's anxious to please, and does.

The best authentic Mexican restaurant, located in downtown Newberg! They also have the most delicious horchata drinks, taste the most fresh. This is a must try if you're in the area. Try the meat lovers burrito.. it's amazing.

    (5)
  • Molly S.

LOVE this place. My husband usually gets the meat lovers burrito and I go for the veggie burrito or carne asada burrito. They are huge and one can easily feed two people. Be sure to stop and grab some of the various condiments they have. The cilantro cream sauce is really, really good. Also try out their meat market. We buy regularly from there. The chorizo is to die for.

    (5)
  • Jennifer S.

OMG. Just, go here. Perhaps the best Mexican ever. Sauces are all homemade and super flavorful. The enchiladas mexicanas were flipping to die for. My husband got a steak burrito that had the perfect balance of ingredients. Nothing was bland, all was well-cooked and you can't beat the pricing. Please don't pass it by because it seems a little dingy on the outside. There may be no stereotypical, multi-colored frescos in stucco on the walls, but the food is amazing.

  • Vanessa G.

Very friendly people working there, clearly a family run business. The food was delicious. My husband got a burrito and I got the tacos . They didn't taste like they were dripping with grease and the price was reasonable. The table next to me all were eating the posole so I'm going to assume that's a favorite of some. Will definitely be coming back!

Oh my goodness!!!! Best Mexican tacos EVER!! Homemade corn tortillas, sauces, and fresh meat sautéed to perfection!! My favorite are chicken street tacos. Fast service and very kind staff. Outside store front looks a little sketchy but don't let that bother you. Go inside and give this place one shot and you will be hooked!!

    (5)
  • Suhasini J.

The best Mexican food I've ever had!! A hidden gem of a place and now it's become a regular haunt. Their burritos are juicy and succulent! And of course they have the best salsa bar ever!

  • Mar C.

Awful service, mediocre food. My husband and I stopped here for a bite to eat but the server was totally distracted and served awful food. No silverwear either. Ordered at counter, food was brought in but nobody asked if we liked it. No service here ?

  • Jubilee C.

Absolutely delicious. I can't remember ever having a burrito that good. I got the burrito mojado and it blew my mind! Its filled with rice, beans, cilantro, onions, meat, and some sort of yummy sauces. It came with rice and beans on the side as well and all for under 9 bucks. It doesn't have the aura of a restaurant because you order before u sit down, and there's a meat case and food items for sale, but there are several tables to sit at so you can dine there. I don't live in Newberg but I know we will be back.

Great place for quick and authentic mexican food. The fajitas burrito is hands down the best burrito I've ever had. Homemade horchata also petty tasty

  • Tim A.

Extremely friendly place that doubles as a Mexican meat market with delicious meats that are very reasonable. They have a great variety of sauces made in house that are fantastic and spicey! Their carnitas torta is the best I've ever had in Oregon and is a bargain at $6 bucks! Highly recommend!

  • Jennifer H.

The food is great. This is not a romantic being your date and sit in a booth restaurant. It's a meat market that turns out fantastic Mexican food. The shrimp taco's are a family favorite. I love the fajitas and the tacos also. I have eaten in three other Mexican places in Newberg and this is by far the best quality and service I have had. Prices are great my family of four ate for 27.00 with drinks.

This place rocks! Two words. Shrimp Tacos!! I am surrounded by great taco shops where I live in So Cal. But I have to say this place is great. Can't wait to come back when we visit Newberg again!

A hole in the wall with the most amazing Mexican food. My husband had the beef burrito and I ordered a variety of tacos (chicken, shrimp, tongue, and fish). The tongue taco was the best - well marinated and super tender. I wish there was a place like this near Seattle. I would go there every week.

My favorite place for authentic Mexican food. Best carnitas sopes. Lots of variety of salsa too. The portion of the pesole soup was humongous and very delicious. Must try and recommended.

Salsa made fresh daily, and they have an in-store butcher counter. The food is incredible, the staff is super friendly, and the whole place is spotless. Not like I'm an authority on "authentic" Mexican, but in my mind this is it- not a greasy, cheese-swimming plate (which also has a time and a place), but fresh, carefully prepared dishes with complex flavors. Do not miss!!!!!!!!

Absolutely the best shredded pork sobes we have ever had! So good, we got an order to go for breakfast tomorrow.

Awesome food! The spicy shrimp burrito is fantastic. Salsa bar has a great selection, but the chili oil is the best. I'm looking forward to trying the Fajitas next time. Highly recommended!

Four of us stoped for lunch on a day of wine tasting. If you have ever been to a small market in Mexico, you will immediatly recognize the format. There is a board on the wall showing all the offerings in picture and words. A small register table is just right of the menu board where you place your order and pay for food and drink. You can select your drinks from the refer behind you and find a place to sit on your own. They have the oldtime sodas imported from Mexico, remember the Pepsi in glass bottles made from real sugar? I don't remember if they served beer, we were on a wine day and did not want to confuse ourselves. Further into the store there is a meat display case stocked with all types of cuts, not common in USA markets, and a good amount of Mexican groceries available for purchase. I can imagine most of the meats and groceries are sold to locals from Mexico, not the local gringo's. Your food is prepared behind the meat display and delivered to your table as it is plated. Tables are simple with no decor, (not a problem), we were there for the food. The servings are large and prices are cheap. I kind of remember the four of us eating for about $30. While I appreciate the authentic format, the food was not up to the best I have eaten at my favorite Mexican places. The food was pretty good, but not great. That's why I only gave it four stars. Not every place needs to be the best. I would gladly return to get that authentic Mexican experience and loved the low prices. If that is what you are hankering for, this is your place in Newberg, Oregon

The chicken nachos are the greatest life choice I have ever made! My husband understands. He's not jealous. Nachos are serious business.

35 minutes for 4 tacos and 1 tamale? Really? Never going back there again. Absolutely ridiculous no matter how good the food is.

  • Heather E.

Granted, there are several Mexican restaurants and food carts in Newberg. I've never counted them up, but it's substantial. Whenever my husband and I visit anything other than Guerrero's, we're always a little disappointed! Especially when it comes to burritos. I don't know what kind of magic they perform in that kitchen, but everything just tastes SO GOOD there. Service is always friendly, and everything is kept beautifully clean. They also have an awesome selection of beverages, including Horchata and glass-bottled Coke. Between that, the salsa bar, and the catchy Latin tunes, it satisfies 100%.

What an unexpected find. Mexican meat/food market with small, no frills restaurant. Spicy pork burrito, chicken quesadilla and tamale where all awesome, the burrito one of the best I ever had! Great salsa bar, too.

I grew up in San Ysidro, California. TIjuana was just across the field from the house where I grew up. Given that I lived in this region, Mexican food, authentic Mexican food, is comfort food for me. Taqueria Guerrero has the best Mexican food in the state of Oregon. Yes...I am going to make that claim. The ingredients used are incredibly fresh. The dishes are light and extremely flavorful. The sauces are incredible. Angel (the owner) has installed a 'salsa bar' so that you can add additional flavors to your already flavorful dishes. I crave their food. In fact, I must have their Pozole once a week. The regular size is HUGE...so I have asked to have a half bowl with fresh tortillas. Just thinking about this makes my mouth water...... My favorites, beside Pozole, are: Chicken Enchiladas - huge portion with rice and beans, with flavors so huge you will remember them for days. The spicy sauce is so good but doesn't keep coming back up....so the flavor memory is from that first time your tastebuds come in contact with the sauce. I could drink the sauce. I have. And will continue to do so. No apologies. Chile Relleno - Amazing. Tostadas - All kinds of meat choices...add some additional veggies from the salsa bar for additional flavor. There is also a grocery in the restaurant with a butcher as well. Fresh cuts of meat from beef to pork to chicken. And everything in between. Gotta run....Taqueria Guerrero is calling me!!!!

  • William R.

A good place but 5 stars is really questionable. A take out joint with tables is a better description. The spicy pork burrito was very good but the fish tacos had little flavor and for that matter not too much fish. It is clear that most of the customers were regulars so maybe that is why service was minimal.

Food was so authentic, great tastes. I loved the sopes and shrimp taco, as did my kids. The atmosphere would be lacking if looking for formal dining but at the price it was fine.

!!!AMAZING!!! Highly recommend this place. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this is your place!

They have the best burritos in town! I crave them on a daily basis. The service is great, it's clean, and it's affordable. They have a good selection and great specials as well. I had never stopped by because I thought it was just a market, but I'm so glad I did, because it's my new favorite food place in town, and that's saying something.

Delicious, fresh and high quality food at a great value. This is the style of Mexican food I love that's often hard to find: great seasoning on the meats and lots of limes, cilantro and radishes on the side. Yum! The guacamole was outstanding as well.

  • Joel A.

Yep, its that good! First rule in Mexican Food, is go where the Mexican people go. I do refrigeration service in a lot of restaurants. Not only is it the best Mexican food I've ever had, but this place is incredibly clean. My wife grew up in Southern California, and knows good Mexican food. She agrees that this is the best ever. We will drive out of our way to get it. Yummy!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
