Best onion rings I have ever had. Very friendly wait staff. Today we had bacon cheddar burgers with onion rings. We enjoyed our visit and have been back. The food is very reasonably priced. The atmosphere is not too bad. A little noisy, there is an open alcohol service area, and there is a lottery room. Pool table and some video games. Great food felt more like being in a fast food/bar. Very clean will be going again.

Stopped for the first time after a backpacking trip. The pizza was pretty good but I was disappointed in the service and the price. Who charges 24 dollars for a medium pizza but doesn't give free refills. I've worked in the food industry and I know the syrup goes forever. Not to mention that we waited 40 minutes for our pizza and no one stopped to refill water. I had to go to the counter and ask for water where three people were standing and all ignored me. I asked the young man of he could fill our water and he said that some other gal does that. ..I proceeded to tell him that she was clearly busy and that is ridiculous. Finally someone got us water. So long story short I might eat here if I'm hungry but is hope they hire some different staff!
Great pizza and highly recommend. Our entire group loved it. The place needs some love (remodeling) but understand that takes a lot of money and restaurants are expensive to operate.
New to living in the canyon. Been here about 2 years. The food is decent.. Fairly on time. But the customer service in most establishments in the country out here are lacking in personal customer service. Not one... "Hello, thanks for coming in", "welcome to Giovani's" I will not drop any hard working money back into any place out here... Just because there isn't another pizza place for 30 miles. Oh yea... They "thanked me" after my payment. Giovanis... Teach those youngsters some better customer service around here. It's embarrassing Oregon.

Poppa Al’s

We stopped in at Poppa Al's today and the place was hopping! Mill City was having city wide garage sales and there were a lot of people out and about. The cafe is a small place with a diner feel about it. The sound system was playing tunes from the 50's and 60;s . My wife ordered a Mama Al's burger and I had the Papa Al's burger. Both were served up on fresh in-house made buns. The burgers were fantastic! It took about half a dozen napkins to get through each burger. I ordered tater tots with mine. They were golden brown, crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. My wife had onion rings that I think were made in-house also. They were even better than my tater tots, next time I'll be having the onion rings too. The one draw back was the wait. Like I said before this place was busy when we got there. But staff was working hard, taking orders, refilling drinks, and serving food as fast as the kitchen could turn it out. We will go back again - the burger was well worth the wait!
I would like to give them 3.5 stars but there is no way to give half a star so I'll stick to 3. After a rafting trip on the N. Santiam river we yelped and found this place. It was a 1min drive from where our rafting trip ended so we decided to grab something to eat. Its a small place, looked like its family owned. I wouldnt say its an awesome place - but what made it worthwhile was it had it all - the food (we ordered mainly burgers and fries with shakes/floats) was good and tasted fresh. It was pretty cheap and most of all the service was great. The owner was friendly, service was prompt - overall a pleasant experience. If you happen to drive past Mill City in Oregon and are looking for a place to eat - give this place a try.
I absolutely love the drive from Salem to Central Oregon along Highway 22. You have the stunning beauty of the mountains, rivers, lakes and even a dam dotted with little towns along the way. One of my favorite places to take a break from the drive is Poppa Al's in Mill City. This is an old fashioned hamburger joint. They will proudly tell you that they make it good, not fast. So leave your big city expectations behind (this ain't Salem). They also pride themselves on service with a smile. The burgers are served on wonderful fluffy homemade buns and they have a good selection of Cascade Glacier ice cream and shakes. Moosetracks is my personal fave. The only reasons this isn't a five star review is that I'm sure some just won't swoon like I do over the place and maybe I won't mind if you head somewhere else, since I don't want to share.

Well worth the stop for lunch. Quick friendly service. Really good deli selections and homemade salad and soups. This is more than a coffee house. Lots of parking, seating out door and in. I ordered 1/2 of a roast beef sandwich on ciabatta roll. Really good, but a little small. This also included a small bowl of tomato basil soup. Delicious. This was just the right amount all for $8.95. I will make sure to stop again next time I come over the mountain.
The food and beverages are excellent! The staff was very friendly and on top of things. I highly recommend this place.
Very crappy service customer service was terrible had a snotty attitude did not feel important as a customer coffee was just ok I won't be stopping in here again not a good place to do business with I suggest a staff overhauling
