    New owners and now called Pop's Gingerbread Smokehouse. We had the pulled pork, chicken strips and brisket. All were very tasty! We'll be back!

    Everybody who's spent any time at all in Lane County has driven past Gingerbread Village, though few people I know stop with any regularity. It's a quaint, iconic spot to stop on those occasions you just need a break from driving, whether headed for the coast or points east. The last time we went, about a year ago, the waitress had an attitude and manner bordering on brusque. Most times the people have been nice enough, but slow and not very attentive. Gingerbread Village is not a destination restaurant, it's a place people stop on their way to someplace else, and considering the unimaginative, greasy-spoon food they serve, the staff really needs to work harder at making the visit a consistently pleasant experience. The menu is crying out for a makeover, because the type of customer who embraced the sort of stuff they serve here is dying out. It's edible if you're 8 or 80, but the baby boomer set and pretty much everyone else old enough (and young enough) to have fully-functional tastebuds is more discriminating. I'll probably stop again at some point, if only because there are so few restaurants in the area, but my visits have become less and less frequent over the years. A person can only eat so much packaged food-service iceberg salad and thousand island dressing in a lifetime. There's a lot of potential at Gingerbread Village, but it needs a lot of help.     I'm very forgiving where food service is concerned, but not when the food doesn't make up for long wait. Our orders were bungled, my grilled veggie sandwich came out cold (not that it was anything special to begin with), the side salads were bitter, bagged blends, and everyone was generally disappointed. The french fries were mind blowingly delicious, but as far as I can tell, that's all that's worth ordering. The staff was friendly enough, though.

    I cannot tell you the total disappointment I experienced by stopping here with my family (3 of us, so not a big party)on Monday. The service was mostly non-existent. The wait time was incredibly long, the food was cold, and the order was wrong. Every time we requested something, they would forget to bring it. When they went around with the coffee pot, they would by-pass our table. They dropped off our check without asking if we wanted any dessert (the place is known for its Gingerbread, of course we wanted some). Then, at the end, they gave us three gingerbread cookies to "thank us for being so patient." I would not suggest anyone waste their time with this place...Florence is not that far away, just go there instead.

    Well unfortunately I do have to give this place one star. If I could I would not give it any. my family came here on Memorial Day weekend on our way home from vacation. When we walked in we could not find any workers, and there was no sign that said seat yourself so we went ahead and sat down somewhere anyway. When I got to the booth I realized the whole seat was pulled out. I pushed it back in and sat down. About a year and a half later (20 minutes give or take) we realized the waitress was not coming. we asked her for menus and she replied "oh, okay." as she took our drinks she apologized for taking so long and that they were super busy earlier. I would have understood except for the fact that there were only 2 other parties in the restaurant. Throughout the meal she kept yelling at us from across the room. This is not a way to talk to customers. I couldn't hear her, and it was frustrating and annoying. Her and the cook also had a relationship that was quite interesting, yelling back and forth in disagreement. Our waitress also had people calling her throughout her meal. Some of her conversations revealed again how "we've been slammed all day, I can't talk right now..I need to go...ya I need to go." I'm guessing that wasn't a customer? Either way, her conversation was not interesting to me. When she took our order she was telling us about the economy and how they usually close at 5 (it was 6:30), and that they have to accommodate for that. Understood. Every small business has to adjust for these things. She told us this story multiple times. She was clearly tired from the day, and frazzled from it. I figured the food would make up for that. She came over to tell us there was no fish available for the day. I said I wanted the New York steak. She said their main cook for the day went home and that she wouldn't recommend ordering it. I wondered why. I was now scared. When she brought out our salads (I had asked for balsamic vinegarette) she said they ran out but handed us two bottles of balsamic vinegar. REALLY? When the food came out it already looked terrible. I ordered Malibu chicken. My chicken was not cooked all the way through. It tasted terrible. Some parts were still cold. My brother ordered pork chops and cut his mouth on a sharp bone that was left in the food. It looked like a sharks tooth. My boyfriend ordered a cheeseburger. They put the wrong cheese on. The waitress told the cook she forgot to tell her he wanted pepperjack cheese. The cook rolled her eyes angry at her mistake. The cooks hair was loose. She didn't look as if she should be in the kitchen. As our dinner went on the waitress failed to refill our waters. I was chewing ice waiting. Terrible service, awful food. I doubt that cook was certified. If the owner is a good person, I feel bad for him or her for choosing poor workers. Small businesses rely on their employees to survive. Although the manager does need to regulate who is cooking. They can't just send their cook home for the day. They should've closed at 5 because I'm never going back.

    I used to go here as a kid with my parents on trips to the coast. I will be discontinuing that practice. It has a casual atmosphere and is located on HWY 58 amongst the trees. But that is where the good things end. We were a little tired after spending the day at the coast and just wanted a quite bite to eat. We sat where we wanted and had to wait for a while for the waitress to take our orders. I ordered the Clam Chowder, Mozzarella Sticks, and Fried Shrimp. My fiancé ordered the roast beef sandwich. When the the shrimp, sandwich, and mozzarella sticks came out the waitress asked if we would like anything else. I asked for some ranch (good thing I did also), and some Tabasco, some silverware (as none was on the table), and lemon wedges that were absent from the order of shrimp. After delivering the table next to us and talking with, what appeared to be, her friends. She finally stopped by the table again. She had the lemon wedges. She then asked us if we needed anything else. We replied with silverware, ranch and Tabasco. She came back with the ranch and silverware and I decided that the Tabasco wasn't that important, I gave up on it. She then proceeded to walk my Clam Chowder around to 2 of the 6 tables seated to figure out who had ordered it until I caught her attention and related that it was mine. Now to the food. For some reason when I was a kid I loved their clam chowder, now not so much. It was bland and tasted a little old. The sandwich that my fiancé ate was decent. and so were the shrimp and mozzarella sticks. But the first bite after a dip into the Marinara dipping sauce revealed that the sauce had fermented. I spit it out and had to walk the sauce and the stick up to the counter. They apologized and asked if I would like any different dipping sauce as that was the only Marinara that they had. They offered Blue Cheese, I said no. Now this was on an order of 5 sticks and I don't think that it is unreasonable that they try to do something to remedy the situation. They did not. They didn't even try to offer a dessert. Horrible Service and Horrible Food, I will NEVER go back. All those good childhood memories, I must have not had taste back then.

    We have stopped here before and looked forward to our visit today. Today however was a very bad experience. We fought to get more than a half cup of coffee at a time, mismatched and late orders. A club sandwich late because they put mayo on it after she specifically wrote no mayo on the ticket. This was cafeteria food at best this time. The coup degrace however came when asked if we would like dessert. I had never checked in before on Yelp until this time. When I did, the app advised me that I would get a complimentary piece of gingerbread and scoop of ice cream for the first check in, and to show the waitress. So the waitress asks if we would like dessert, from 10 feet away from the table, and I hold up my cell phone and mention the Yelp promo. She stands there and says 'I can't see that.' And makes no effort to come over until I state that I bet she CANT see it from that far away. She finally comes to the table and I show her THEIR promo on Yelp. She reads it, and begins making comments to the effect of that's not us, we didn't put that on there, yelp did that - not us... She then goes to the kitchen, telling me she is going to go check on that and discuss it, making me feel in front of my family and friends as if I was trying to pull a fast one or something. She eventually came back, and again from about 10 feet away, for the whole restaurant to hear, began a diatribe about how they must have gotten 'hacked' and that 'the internet is out if control' and said 'you've heard about that right? The internet and media is out of control!' After all this, she says they will go ahead and honor this, but again says THATS WRONG! And tells me they will be contacting Yelp to make them remove that. She then brought a tiny piece of gingerbread with a spoon of mostly melted ice cream. Poor service and public humiliation in my book does not deserve a tip. My wife later told me when she was at the register paying the bill she totaled out the receipt without adding a tip. This same waitress then made a snide remark regarding that, not knowing whether we had possibly left a cash tip on the table as people sometimes do. I'm sure she lost tips from others in our party of 8 as well over her rediculous comments and service. I'm still curious how the out of control internet and media knew an actual menu item to offer as a promo...

    Five star breakfast. Best pancakes I've had in some time. Very friendly service. Not super busy when I was here so service was very quick. I don't understand other reviews ? I'll be back

    Personally served by the owner (love a boss that works alongside the rest of the team). Had the gingerbread waffle special. Delightful!
