I AM SO IN LOVE! After reading some of the other reviews, I am fairly certain that when my boyfriend and I went to Terra Cotta it was under new ownership. This was a week ago, May 2015! NEVER have I had more delicious food! And coming from a family with a mother straight from Mexico that loves to cook, this is a high compliment! My boyfriend and I were absolutely starving, so we quickly ordered an appetizer, the Cajun Shrimp. I don't deal too well with spicy food but I was craving seafood and was hungry enough to give it a go. The dish came with plenty of sauce, bread, and butter. It was nowhere near "too spicy" for me, just flavorful! Each of our meals came with soup, and as there were two options, we each chose a different one. I had a tomato-y shrimp bisque and bf had a seafood chowder. While they were both delicious, the winner had to be the seafood chowder with its creamy deliciousness and large chunks of shrimp and crab! My bisque was also delicious but lacked substance. It was great for dipping breadsticks into though! We then received our meals, I had the seafood alfredo and bf had the steak with mushrooms on top, rice and asparagus on the side. WOW! I ordered the "safe" and "plain" dish because I was craving noodles and shrimp, expecting a rather boring experience but I was blown out of the water. There was so much flavor in this dish, and the shrimp were massive! The steak was even more amazing if that was possible. We also immediately asked for the recipe for the asparagus as asparagus is usually delicious but plain. Can't wait to make it myself! (Johnny's Seasoning and put it on the grill) We made it about halfway through the tender medium rare steak and buttery noodles before we were just full to bursting. Our lovely server came by to offer us a piece of dessert (all beautifully laid out on a tray so as to be ultra tempting!) and we decided to take the Reese's cheesecake slice home that she had made herself that day! We had it for breakfast the next day and it was beautiful. :) Apparently she also works at the pie shop that was next door, and that is where she was headed to prepare the pies for the next day after we left (we were her last customers but we NEVER felt rushed or like we had to leave). The restaurant is labeled as "casual fine dining" and it is fairly expensive. I would say the food absolutely justifies the price, as well as the fact that we did order seafood and steak. The inside is definitely "casual" but definitely cute and quirky. Definitely don't pass this little place up if you are going through Manzanita or visiting the cute little town!

Please ignore the repulsive and RUDE negative reviews below (I don't find someone's personal opinion of an "annoying" server to be of general use to me in selecting a restaurant). This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Oregon, and that's saying something. I feel the need to defend this place as it's quaint, charming, and serves delicious food. Not to mention the very friendly waitstaff. I have no idea how someone could come to this restaurant and give it a bad review. My husband and I vacation in Manzanita for 1 week every summer and always have dinner here at least once or twice. Just take my word for it and enjoy your dinner here!

We're back in Manzanita and came back to this restaurant after a wonderful experience here last year. All I can say is - see last year's review. Everything was just as good, and the service was perhaps even a little better. We love this place.

Visited Terra Cotta Cafe awhile back with the highest of expectations. Locals and other Yelp reviewers recommended this place. And it's located at the edge of Manzanita in a cute old house. So while we were in town, this was the place we chose for our dinner. What a mistake. First of all, the service. The server (who I believe may also be the husband of the owner/chef) waited on us. He was nice enough, but I could tell he just didn't seem comfortable being a server and dealing with him just felt...tedious. This is hard to explain, but I just found him kind of annoying. He brought us some bread twists that were supposedly fresh baked. They had an almost chemical flavor and reminded me of something I'd probably buy at Grocery Outlet for 99 cents. They just weren't good. The server then basically begged us to try the peaches with prosciutto. It was their special appetizer and he told us that we would love it. I thought it was one of the most bizarre things I've ever tasted. The texture was weird and I could only stand to take a few bites. Both of us hated it. Main course. I ordered a parchment wrapped halibut and my partner ordered a steak. Again, the halibut was something the server just raved about. (After the terrible bread and bizarre peach thing, you'd think I'd have learned not to go with his suggestions, but nope!) anyway, fish was quite bland. Partner's steak tasted rancid. He complained about the rancid flavor and the server took it to the chef and supposedly had her taste it. The server came back a moment later and said "no, it tastes fine...we both tasted it and think it's great." Well, my partner and I come from Oklahoma, "beef country," so we know damn well how a steak should taste, and it tasted just flat out wrong. It had a sourness that just shouldn't be there. Rancid! They comped the steak. I paid for the bland fish and everything else. We didn't stay for dessert. We just wanted to leave. I am sure the owners are nice people and maybe this was an "off" day for them. But this just wasn't a good experience..

Hubby & I had dinner here last night. Unexpectedly great meal!! The service was great! The food was fresh and flavorful. We started with an appetizer of peaches marinated in balsamic vinegar then wrapped in prosciutto and grille. It was then plated with some feta cheese. It was really good and a nice light start to the meal. I had the halibut special which was wrapped in paper with crab & white wine , lemon and Boursin cheese- yummy! The halibut PC was a bit small but soooo tasty. With the sides and an appetizer it was just enough. Hubby had the chicken which he said was "dynamite" we will definitely be back! Best place we've tried in Manzanita!!

Awful. Just awful... I've NEVER been to a place that tried to serve me spoiled food before.

We've been coming to Manzanita for about 15 years and hardly ever eat out. The few times we've done so we've felt "ho hum" about the experience (which is probably why we hardly ever do it). The other night we tried Terra Cotta Cafe so I didn't have to cook on my birthday, and we we're so happy we did. The service was great and the food even better. As I understand it, they are under new ownership/management and the menu has changed a bit. There we're old favorites but many new Asian-inspired goodies too. All of us LOVED our meals... Salmon baked in parchment paper with blue cheese and sliced apples, grilled halibut with assorted dipping sauces, beef pho, and chicken yakisoba. Eclectic to say the least, but all excellent. And the waitress (maybe owner?) paired our wines well which is always nice. I would highly recommend trying Terra Cotta!

Adequate -- some weaknesses. The service was attentive, good. Pesto on the linguini was tasty. The added shrimp were . . . added. Nothing special. The stuffed chicken breast (one of the specialties) was very tasty, although the chicken breast was just a touch dry. The stuffing and the sauce compensated well. There is a nice wine selection. They offer some of the small wineries around the state, which I appreciate. The apple pie dessert was disappointing. The filling was fine but the crust was not crusty at all -- it was soggy and mealy. The management offered to comp us that dessert -- as I'd eaten all but the crust I declined and paid -- but I appreciate that customer sensitivity. There is not a lot to choose from in Manzanita if you want more than cafe food. I don't find the prices overpriced and the food was well thought out, if slightly lacking.

We came here as a table of six. We were generally happy with the experience. One of the owners waited on us. He has had serious health problems and it shows. Service from him was not good but he was knowledgeable and congenial. The wine list is not long but it has enough choices. There were misspellings on it that could have been attempts at humor, at least I hope so. We had a decent French red. The wine prices are excellent: mostly about $25 per bottle. There is also a full bar. I started with a good grey goose vodka martini and a friend had an 18 year old glenlivit scotch. At the end I had sambuca. My clam pasta was good, not great, with lots of garlic. My wife was less happy with her pasta with shrimp: thought the pasta was not well enough lubricated by sauce or oil or something. Several at the table had parchment wrapped salmon or halibut. They enjoyed the meal. Salad is included. You get the lettuce and a server circulates offering toppings: tomato, onion, bacon, etc.: it is nice but was time consuming. A tomato soup and New England clam chowder were offered as alternatives and each was enjoyed by one of our group. There were several desserts offered. The fruit tart was shared by my wife and one friend. They loved it. I shared peanut butter and chocolate pie with another friend and thought it good. Desserts are made next door by another business. There will be a new owner soon. He was in the kitchen learning the recipes and procedures. He has about a month before he takes over the business. What that will mean is not known. The current owners are ready to retire.

Nice touch of homemade bread twists brought first thing to the table. Three flavorful soup options for dinner: wild mushroom, clam chowder, and tomatoes artichoke (there were luckily three of us). Halibut, lamb chips, and special of grilled beef and chicken sausage were all good and good value at under $20 for entrees that included soup or salad, veggie, and potatoes or rice. Only criticisms are maybe a bit too attentive and beiges a bit over cooked.

My husband and I drove to Manzanita on this glorious sunny Mother's Day afternoon and stumbled upon the Terra Cotta Cafe. They were indeed a bit befuddled when we walked in, but the server regained his composure and showed us to a table. He recited a long list of menu items and sold us on a fine bottle of pino gris from Dundee, Oregon. We started with the stuffed mushrooms. They were perfectly done, not over cooked and filled with creamy crab. I had the Waldorf salad and it was just like my mama's, served on a leaf of lettuce and on a decorative glass plate. My dinner was grilled skewered scallops on creamy polenta. It was divine, but not a big helping, so my husband took pity on me and shared his huge juicy perfectly done pork chop. For dessert I had a little peach pie warmed with vanilla ice cream . The pie was amazing and was made in the pie shop next door. Everything about this little restaurant is homey and exquisite. Even the restroom was immaculate and tidy and decorated in perfect, unstated good taste. I can't wait to come back and try the steaks here. Perhaps the server and hostess were a bit "hovering" but the restaurant is small and cozy and well, there you are all nose to nose. We arrived just after 5 pm and it filled soon after 5:30. This is truly a little gem, on a long coastline of very tired and mediocre restaurants.

My husband surprised me with suggesting an overnight at the beach with no cooking. Sweet! We looked up Terra Cotta and were very happy with the entire evening. we had appetizers, a bottle of wine and our main courses all for under $75. We were delighted at the cost considering what a nice meal it was. We are looking forward to our next visit.

This was actually a 3.5 star rating for me...but I rounded up to 4 star, since the evening we dined there was such a nice evening! The first night we were in Manzanita, we forgot the dog food and had to stop at a grocery store to buy dog food. We were pondering on where to eat dinner, when I saw a cute restaurant across the parking lot. We checked out the menu posted outside the door, and decided to stay. We walked inside, and felt a little too warm and stuffy. I noticed the outdoor dining tables, and decided I would rather dine al fresco. The host asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. He asked us to wait while figuring out seating arrangements. When he came back, he asked if it was ok if we ate outside...which is exactly what I wanted! My dining partner already knew what he wanted to order, based on the posted menu. He wanted the Cobb Salad. I decided on the Linguine and Clam Sauce. Soup or salad comes with the entree, so I decided on the clam chowder. The clam chowder was flavorful, but wasn't thick enough for me. My dining partner received a salad when I received my soup. The salad lettuce came on a small plate, and the server had a tray with different toppings to choose from. We looked at each other quizically, thinking this was the actual Cobb Salad. It was rather small for $15.95! But when I received my entree, he received his full Cobb Salad! The server offered to toss the salad tableside, but my partner declined this service. I have been to many restaurants, and I've never seen a restaurant offer a salad before an entree salad...I find this a little strange! I think the option of soup before the entree salad makes a little more sense. Anyways, the food was good, though a little overpriced.

The service was outstanding -- everyone who served us in any capacity at the table was super friendly and accommodating. The food is as fresh as can be, everything is made to order just for you. The alfredo is out of this world. Good menu variety and EXCELLENT food, great tasting and well prepared. Conveniently located from several popular beach towns. I cannot imagine why anyone gave it less than at least 4 stars, unless they were blinded by The Pink -- it REALLY does need to be redecorated BADLY. I will definitely share this good review on other sites, and will definitely return!

We walked into a nearly empty restaurant, and the host/main server seemed put out and flustered that we didn't have a reservation. He made us feel like he was doing us a huge favor to find us a table. He would have done us a BIGGER favor if he discovered he couldn't accommodate us because we would have eaten elsewhere. (As it was, the "fully booked" restaurant still had four empty tables by the time we left.) For our appetizer, we had the prosciutto-wrapped barbecued peaches, which the server talked up as a being based on a special family recipe. Nothing special. The peaches were unevenly grilled and flavorless, despite supposedly being marinated in Grand Marnier. The prosciutto (which, as a vegetarian, I removed) was inordinantly thin, and my dining companion wasn't impressed by it. Vegetarian entree options were limited. I opted for linguine and pesto. The linguine was cooked perfectly, but the pesto was bland, not terribly creamy, and just sort of glopped onto the top of the pasta. My friend chose the sockeye salmon in parchment. The salmon was cooked with chopped zucchini and summer squash--perhaps I should say overcooked since, in order to get the chucks of squash done, the salmon was left in too long, my friend said. Both of us could have done with less wait staff involvement with our plates. Rather than wrapping the parchment so that the diner could easily open it himself, the waiter brings out scissors and cuts open the packet. And the dinner salad is actually plain, undressed greens; the server brings out a chip-and-dip-style platter of salad toppings, and doles out your choices of toppings. Perhaps Terra Cotta Cafe considered this a mini table-side salad bar, but it put me off. Service was adequately attentive, despite being disorganized. Terra Cotta Cafe had three servers for the nine indoor tables and the four outdoor tables, and no one seemed to have an assigned section or role. I can't characterize anything as terrible, just not good. We won't be going back.

As I've stated in other reviews of mine... there is limited availability for eating dinner in Manzanita Beach. The options get even smaller if you're considering a place for fine dining. Which is exactly what I was hoping for on a beach get a way with my new husband. I saw a brochure for this place in our motel's binder and I noticed at the bottom it read, "Reservations appreciated" I made the call and got an answering machine saying if we wanted to dine there, we had to leave a message with the date and time we would prefer, so I did. It was about 5:30 pm and I spoke of possibly a reservation for 7pm and I asked if there was a dress code (we only had shorts and flip flops, and God forbid we make a fashion faux pas in Manzanita Beach!) I kid! I kid! Anyway, so I didn't hear back from this place until about 730pm when we were being seated at the Big Wave Cafe, about a block down the street. I would've loved to sample this place, but I got the impression that perhaps this place was a bit of a drama queen. If we're back in Manzanita next year and it's still open, I'd still love to try it and possibly change my review, but as of now, I'm skeptical.

I am not sure why this place only gets 2.5 stars. It is fabulous! The grilled peaches and salmon on parchment paper is to die for. The wine list is a little small but the local wine they suggested was excellent.

I read Kady B's review and could not believe we had the same experience. We got there at 4:45 and they were so put out that we did not have a reservation! After a few minutes they told us that they had one table left. The waiter dropped 2 1/2 dried cold breadsticks into a glass on our table ( we were a party of 3). Other tables were brought handfuls of warm breadsticks. One person in our group ordered linguine with a meatball. It was quite horrifying- a giant blob of meat which was not good. They said the clam chowder was "award winning" but the awards must have been given out by someone with poor tastebuds as it was milky and bland. The highlight was the dessert- peach blueberry cobbler with a almond macadamia topping and ice cream- it really was delicious, but would not go back. You can't food a foodie!

I really, really would like to give Terra Cotta Cafe a good review. The Manzanita area needs more good restaurants, like in the good old days of Blue Sky Cafe, Jarboe's, et al. Unfortunately, Terra Cotta is just okay with prices too high for what they serve. Plain iceberg lettuce salads where they bring a Tupperware container of salad fixin's to throw on top (including old bacon); pasta you could easily make a home; specials that just are not special. We last visited with a friend we hadn't seen in a very long time, so we lingered over wine and appetizers. The restaurant was mainly empty so we weren't taking needed space, nor was it late in the evening. Yet the owner and server continually interrupted us, every 4 minutes to take our order. Even when we told them we wanted to wait. Not a very relaxing experience. It is time to up the quality, join the revolution and serve fresh ingredients. Summers at the beach should not include old lettuce and tasteless tomatoes. Manzanita needs good restaurants. And we would love to give you a great future review.

Cute little out of the way house 7 blocks up from the Beach. Everyone we talked to in town said this was the only good place to eat for miles around. The owners, Harvey and Sandy, are long time restauranteurs who know how to treat customers. Warm bread sticks are a great start. Salads have a special touch - lettuce comes on your plate, then you pick other items from their salad carousel such as tomatoe, cheese flakes, nuts, scallions, etc. Their specialties are parchment paper baked fish - Halibut and Salmon "en papillotte". They are excellent dishes. Our party also enjoyed the grilled Halibut and several chicken dishes. For a small restaurant they have a great wine list and Harvey recommended a great small family Oregon Pinot Gris which we loved.

It's worth the drive down from Cannon Beach. The food is very good. I had the halibut wrapped in paper. It was well cooked, and the veggies and potatoes were just right. The breadsticks are a nice touch- served warm and fresh. The service is a bit clumsy, but seemingly well intended. They do give you lots of attention, but it just seemed a little awkward at times. Dessert (bread pudding witha Grand Marnier sauce) was very good, and the ice wine they serve was delicious. Oh- one thing about this place is they do not serve customers under the age of 21, so leave the kids at home.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
