A very friendly hostess seated us in a lovely dining room with beautiful hand crafted Thai artwork decorating the walls. A few nice paintings of red ginger added to the atmosphere. After ordering we were immediately rewarded with a small salad with a rice wine vinagrette. The appetizer arrived next. Fried bean curd with a sweet and sour vinegar dip. Perfectly golden brown, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. We had the Cajun Asperagus and the Avocado Curry which was the days chef special. Both had perfectly cooked vegatables. The asparagus was still bright green, not crunchy, but not overcooked either. Both had tender, sweet shrimp and thinly sliced chicken. The cajun asparagus had a nice bite to it. I felt the curry was a bit mild, but my tastes run to a hotness that makes you tear up a bit. My sister likes spicy, but not too hot food and found the heat level perfect. Our waiter was polite without hovering and served us quickly and with a smile. Overall a great experience.

This is my 2nd time to Red Ginger. This time I was flying solo. I was pleasantly greeted by a gentleman server & since it was just after 5p (start of their dinner service) I had nearly the whole restaurant to myself (there were a few "to-go" people). I ordered the Salad Rolls, Thai Iced Tea & Drunken Noodles w/ Chicken. The Salad Rolls were very fresh & refreshing. The sauce that came w/ them had a slight spice kick which was a nice surprise (as I'm used to eating them w/ peanut sauce). My Thai Iced Tea was the perfect amount of sweet & I enjoyed it. This brings me to the Drunken Noodles. It was a good portion, could've shared if needed. The smell as the plate was set down was a little off putting but they had an overall good taste & I enjoyed eating them. Overall Red Ginger has an intimate atmosphere, good decor & great service. Their food is delicious, there could be a few improvements here & there in food but so does any restaurant. I would return to this restaurant for a 3rd visit.

Tried this place some time back Nice clean looking restaurant with pleasant staff. We tried the house soup which was complimentary. Very tasty Avocado puffs were great We ordered the green curry which was good but I have had better. Still provides a nice option for Asian fusion in this area

(3/2/15 - 8:10pm) Called to get carry out and the guy was rude answering the phone and to top it off $13 Pad Thai and $13 Drunkin noodles they must be CRAZY with them prices, that's the highest I've seen and I have ate at Thai joints from here to Chicago. I just simply hung up. I would never pay more then $10 for each dish EVER. I cant believe people would even pay that but to each is own. I wont be calling back.

Place was nice , very small and we were the only guest the whole time we were there. Ordered pad Thai , was so disappointed , it had a very strong vinegar taste, I could only eat two bite. Husband ordered drunken noodles and they had a horrible smell to them, also tasted awful . The yellow curry was ok. So very disappointed with the food, I don't really think it was cooked badly , maybe just not the way we prefer our Thai food. The man who seated us was very nice. Will not be returning though

The restaurant was beautiful and the staff was helpful and attentive. Thus, the two stars. Unfortunately, I don't go to a restaurant to enjoy decor or interact with staff. I go for the food. And this food was terrible. I had the Pad Thai and it was just awful. Sweet was the only way to describe the sauce and, in a disturbing turn, the chicken smelled and tasted like shrimp. It was very disconcerting. My aunt got the curry and the vegetables were very inconsistently cooked. They were either total mush or underdone. It just tasted....bland? Very one note and that one note wasn't a particularly nice one. I will not ever be returning here.

We were in Salem on business from Los Angeles and we stopped here because we read the reviews on Yelp. I eat Thai food about once every two weeks and I can say this place is as good as any of my favorites. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I had the basil stir fry with chicken and my buddy had the eggplant delight with shrimp. We also ordered Pad Thai noodle with chicken and fried rice. Everything was great! They had a party of 20 upstairs and 4 tables downstairs where we ate. There was only one cook and it was incredible how fast she got all the food out. I will definitely be coming back my next time I come through Salem, OR.

1st time there with friends who recommended it. Good job. Service pleasant, presentation nice, food great. Nice assortment, lettuce wraps nice (why do all restaurants serve apps for 4, cant they add 1 wrap if there are 5 and charge for it?). And we could actually hear each other during dinner. Very nice experience, will be back.

Salem/Keizer, Oregon is almost an Oriental food desert. There are plenty of Oriental restaurants, just darn few that you'd eat in more than once. Red Ginger is one of the few good ones. They have a pleasing variety from which to choose, including their specialties. Then there are daily specials. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere -- cloth table clothes and rolled, upright red napkins. A pleasing atmosphere in which to eat. Our waiter was friendly and engaging, striking a nice balance of friendliness and wait-desired attentiveness. I opted for an Avocado, Yellow Curry with chicken and shrimp. Yes, avocado. My spouse had Swimming Prawns -- also with avocado, in a peanut sauce. Her dish was not spicy, other than a little heat in the peanut sauce. It was listed with vegetables. We thought they were part of the prepared dish, but were served as steamed vegetables, as you would in an American restaurant. We thought this a little quirky but not bad. Her plate was beautifully presented. The Curry was the better of the two dishes. It had more substance. Avocado, shrimp, chicken, peas, basil, bamboo shoots in the curry. I'm particularly looking forward to the left-overs, when all ingredients have a little more time to marry. The lettuce wraps/spring rolls were fresh and refreshing with a nice, slightly edged sauce to give it balance. Sorry to be so wordy, but wanted to give a good flavor to the place. Well worth a try and better than almost all the other Asian restaurants in the area.

Wonderful food! The owner of the place is so pleasant and warm. We have been eating here frequently because of both the food and the service. There seems to be a new (?) male server during dinner time. We have been served by him twice. We have been having the ABSOLUTE WORST experience with this server. He made me not want to eat at the restaurant both times I was served by him. He presented us with a complementary salad with a sarcastic comment how of course the salad was not Thai but the older customers "love it". I thought the comment was unnecessary. With our meal we were presented with a "large" bowl of rice to share among three people with dishes that came with rice... 5 inch diameter bowl of rice for three sauce dishes and no other starch. I could probably eat the entire bowl myself. We waited patiently as he chatted with some customers it seemed like he knew personally but we couldn't eat because we had finished our first bowl of rice and needed more to continue eating our food! He then proceeded to charge us for the extra rice we requested without letting us know about the extra charge on the rice. At checkout, we inquired about the rice and he explained that rice costs money and that the extra rice needed to be paid for. To an extent this is understandable if advertised that extra rice costs more and if the rice given with the meal was an appropriate amount for the dish. Neither was the case. He repeated the reasoning for this charge but then stated "but you dont have to pay for it." When he was taking our payment, he charged us for the rice... we were willing to pay for the rice if it is advertised and clearly stated, not placed on our bill "secretly" and then were told that we dont have to pay for it and then charged for the rice we were just told we did not have to pay for. All this text and ranting over rice! I understand that rice costs money... DUH! This experience would have went better if he had handled the situation better. I will NOT be returning or bringing friends/family here if I find that he will be serving. I was SO EMBARRASSED and ASHAMED at the experience my out of town friends AND family had while eating here. Take-out from now on... maybe.

Don't let the outside fool you! I've lived in Keizer for several years, and always drove by, thinking it was just another Chinese restaurant. I was wrong!!! Who knew that Keizer had such an amazing Thai restaurant! I've been here twice now, and both times, the food was amazing! They have perfectly blended flavors, a knowledgable staff to help in your ordering, fresh ingredients, and a wonderfully romantic, intimate setting. This is a great place for a romantic night out. My new favorite eating place!

I absolutely love thai food and I recently moved to Salem and so far this place has the best food all the way around. Their Tom Kah Gai soup is to die for!!! Of course, their pad thai is very good and most of their curries are delicious. The spring rolls and fried rolls as an appetizer are very yummy as well.

I like coming here every few months. The atmosphere is quiet and the resturant feels authentic. I believe its a small mom and pops resturant. The food is slighty better than Oregon's general offerings of Thai. The price is on par for what you get and I will continue to frequent this place. My order has been wrong once or twice such as getting tofu instead of chicken on my pad thai and while not the end of the world, I felt it was easier to accept my tofu rather than attempt to send it back. Often times small resturants like this are known for being slow, but I havent noticed that here. If you're looking for world class Thai you wont find it here in Keizer, but its a good resturant. Order the Golden Bag's as your appetizer. You wont be dissapointed.

I really wanted to like this place, and will give it another try because they seem like wonderful people and I like supporting a locally owned small business. The prices are very high, considering the similar Asian options in town with comparable food. Curries and noodles are $13, the specials top $20. The chicken and bamboo shoots in my curry were clearly pre-frozen and low quality, although the eggplant and bell peppers were fresh and cooked to perfection which is a critique I often have of curries. Frozen shelled peas were an odd addition to the curry that didn't mesh well. The avocado puffs appetizer on the other hand were delicious. They were on special with several other avocado based dishes, which is nice because you can tell they use what's in season. I will come back and try lunch, hoping that the prices are more reasonable and maybe I came on an off night.

Went here with a group of co-workers and we were all satisfied with the food and service. It is a bit pricey, but the portion sizes are large. I will definitely eat here again.

Had lunch here for the first time. Owner Amanda was incredibly nice and helpful. We loved the lettuce wraps for an app. I had the drunken noodle spicy, which was lovely. Large egg noodles with perfectly cooked shrimp and crisp, fresh vegetables. My husband had the seafood soup. Amazing flavor and lots of fresh seafood. The ambiance is very nice. Tablecloths and cloth napkins. We were so happy to have tried Red Ginger and will definitely be back!

Great little restaurant! Definitely difficult to find in the dark, so keep an eye out. Had the savory brown rice and the mango chicken deluxe. Great flavor, a lot of it. Only thing id say was that the savory brown rice was a little too sweet.

A very nice dining experience that exceeded my expectations. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted by the owner, Amanda, who was also the sole waitress that evening. Very friendly and warm, she made us feel welcome right from the start. The decor is comfortably elegant. Red Tablecloths accented with black runners underneath provide a warm and peaceful environment. It is fine dining, yet not at all pretentious or stuffy. Very welcoming. My 9 year old son and I started with the Golden Bags (aka crab puffs). The presentation was beautiful and these little bags were actual works of art. The wrapper was delicately thin, creatively twisted at the top and perfectly prepared. A slight hint of curry in the mix gave the filling a curry color and flavor. Dipping sauce was tart and sweet, but not at all overpowering. For our entrees, we shared Shrimp Pad Thai and Pra Ram Peanut with Chicken. The Pad Thai was also beautifully presented. A small amount of egg, generous portion of large prawns, lime, spouts, and an nice sprinkling of ground peanuts on the side made all the flavors of this dish come together. As the menu states, it is prepared with a traditional tangy tamarind sauce, and it is a bit tangier than I was expecting, yet when the salty peanuts and fresh, crisp bean sprouts are brought into the dish, it all works together nicely. The Pra Ram was absolutely delicious. A perfect combination of thinly sliced chicken breast, fresh tender broccoli, green beans, onion, just a few little tasty baby corn and an absolutely delicious peanut sauce that earned a place on my best ever list. Served along side with a bowl of fragrant basmati rice (I am not certain, but I believe it was basmati), this dish is perfect. I wouldn't change a thing. I first ate Thai food 21 years ago at Thai Pepper in Ashland, OR with my father. It was love at first bite, and I believe my son had a very similar experience last night. I'm thrilled to have shared it with him. I highly recommend Red Ginger. I have compared all other Thai restaurants to that restaurant in Ashland. Red Ginger is without a doubt every bit as good as Thai Pepper, Thai Orchid, Typhoon, the list goes on and on. I am very eager to continue to explore the menu at Red Ginger and look forward to dining there again soon.

The food is overall good, however, the wine section is very limited and the place was cold. We had to ask the server twice to please turn up the heat a bit. Royal Thai in Independence is an overall superior option for Thai food.

Red Ginger offers the best Thai food in the Salem-Keizer area. In addition, it vies with pricier restaurants of every kind for the area's best all-around dining experience, including a pleasant atmosphere with upscale decor, low sound levels permitting easy conversation, and tablecloths with real napkins! Our only complaint is that Keizer has a twenty-year history of attracting the area's best Thai restaurants while Salem, where we live, suffers down-market MacThais, sort-of-Thai-fusions and noisy, hard-surface take-out joints. Red Ginger is worth the drive.

Since I've raved about Red Ginger for years in social media and to our friends, I feel a responsibility to update my review. Something has gone awry at Red Ginger. The food is now average (at best!) and the portions are far smaller. The ingredients aren't fresh and the prices have gone up. Really sad to see our favorite little locally owned restaurant decline to this point. After three bad meals in a row, we're on the hunt for a new favorite Thai restaurant.

So this was a happy mistake went looking for another place and drove by Red Ginger and said " that must be it. It's in a house and looks nice!" We went in sat down I realized we went to the wrong place and started to greek out. Hoped on yelp and they had good stars so I said lets stay and check it out. It was amazing I had the Drunkin noodles and they tasted great! The staff was great the owner cam out to the table ask how everything was we even got to talk to the cook. It was a blast. I will be back again to try some curry!! So if you are looking for good food go into a place that looks like a house they don't disappoint!

Great little Thai place. I ate here 3 times while I was in town. One night they even made a special meal when I wanted a dish they don't have on the menu. Next time I'm in the area I would go out of my way to dine here again.

Great service, we showed up at 9 and stayed until 10. We were the last in the restaurant and the owner provided fantastic service, encouraging us to linger and shared some of her life background. The special appetizer was a fresh salad roll with excellent avocado. I had the pad zee ew (sp?), the green beans were excellent and the fried tofu tasty. My boyfriend had the red curry, which he ate all of, so it must have been good! We will definitely return. I was also impressed that Red Ginger has received a perfect score from the health department.

This is a newer restaurant and the cook and waitstaff are both eager to please. I came in with a party of six and we were constantly rotating the plates in front of us. None of us left hungry or with a bad thing to say. Decor is nice and it is a little more formal than the Thai Cuisine up the road (which is my favorite Thai place), but the staff here is far more attentive and helpful.

Pros: Excellent Pad Thai and Yakisoba noodles Great service from delightful people Well appointed restaurant in a cozy atmosphere Cons: I was compelled to tip more than normal because of the great experience we had We arrived at around 1 pm on a weekday and noticed fresh Basil growing in a flowerbed next to the restaurant. We took this as a good sign and immediately upon entering were greeted and seated. From the lunch special menu we decided on Pad Thai for me, Yakisoba Noodles for my wife, and Pad Thai for our daughters. When we asked for an extra plate so we could split the Pad Thai for our daughters, our server asked if the kitchen could split the order for us and serve them on two plates. I had never had that offered before and it was a very considerate thing to suggest. Each plate was only $7. We all went with chicken as our meat. Note: I ordered my Pad Thai "medium spicy", and our server informed us that they serve their food "mild spicy" unless the customer specifies otherwise. We were immediately served with a delightful Kim Chi soup with just the right amount of spiciness for my pallet. The chef (sister of the owner) brought our children small plates with fresh and crunchy sliced apples, explaining that she felt the soup may be too hot for them, which was another very considerate thing to do. The restaurant is nicely decorated in a red theme, including linen table cloths (no plastic or glass cover) and linen napkins. Our main dishes immediately followed and were garnished and visually appealing. Portions were very generous as noted in another review, and they were noticeably larger than Thai Lotus's. Our daughters received their Pad Thai on plates that were shaped like ducks, which I don't think was an accident, and they absolutely loved the uniqueness. I prefer my Pad Thai just a little on the sweet side, with slightly dry and sticky noodles, and tender meat. Although I am very particular about Pad Thai, this dish was as good as the best I've ever tasted. They make their very own sauce and the use of Tamarind is evident. The Pad Thai noodles were cooked perfectly, and along with the stickiness of the sauce, provided a nice tactile experience in addition to being delicious. The chicken was tender, which some chefs can ignore during the preparation and serve dry and hard. My wife's Yakisoba was similarly prepared and was also delicious. My wife makes her own Yakisoba at home at least monthly, and Red Ginger's Yakisoba receives her stamp of approval. Spiciness Note: Each bite of my meal was better than the next, but towards the end my nose began to run and my eyes watered more than normal. Remember how macho man ordered "medium spicy?" It wasn't until I finished the dish that I realized how spicy it really was. It was just too delicious. Next time I will go with the "mild spicy" and forego requesting medium. Not sure if I just received an abnormally strong dish, but at any other Thai place in town I'm fine with medium spicy. Our server saved me as throughout the meal she kept our water glasses constantly full, which was a chore considering I had five or six glasses. During our meal we had a delightful visit from the chef who came to our table to inquire about the food. She has a genuine pleasantness and desire for her customers to be happy that simply cannot be contrived. A visit to the restrooms showed them to be clean and stocked and smelling great with the glade oil plug ins. We wrapped up our great experience with a pleasant sendoff from the staff and were pleased that they accepted American Express. Although, my lovely wife and I are regular consumers of Thai Food in the area, and we drive by this restaurant almost daily, we had never stopped in before. After such a great experience, I wished I had tried Red Ginger sooner. After pondering what may have prevented us from trying it before, I became aware of a few subconscious misconceptions that we had. Parking is difficult - Although the restaurant is on River Road, parking is in the back off of a side street just south of the location. Don't let this deter you as you only need to take the side street and the next right gets you in the lot. You can also get to the parking if you take the back way out of Dutch Brothers. There must be limited seating and maybe it is full - Although the restaurant is a converted residence and appears small, there is ample seating and even an upstairs seating area. They did mention that reservations are accepted and necessary around holidays. "Asian Fine Dining" = overpriced and leave your kids at home - Nothing is further from the truth at this place. $8 for my Pad Thai lunch special and our children (4 and 6 years old) were welcomed and treated very well during the lunch hour, although our children are very well behaved and were actually more quiet and respectful than a couple of middle aged women seated near us.

I have mixed feelings about Red Ginger. A couple months ago when I tried to eat here it was closed for remodeling. So I have waited patiently for another opportunity to experience what the rave is all about. A couple of things were good, a couple not so good. First, I had not had a chance to eat here before the remodel, so I can't comment on how well it was done or if there were any improvements or not. As Aaron W. said, the lighting is dark, too dark for a restaurant of this type and caliber in my opinion. Seating was limited, made more limited on this particular night by two large groups of about 6 and 8 taking up the majority of inner table space. Leaving only the small outer edge tables open for anyone else who happened to walk in. As is my customary beginning to any Thai restaurant, I ordered the That iced tea. This was good on the first sip, but there was an unusual aftertaste I am not familiar with and could not place. It wasn't bad, just different, and distracting. I still finished the whole glass though. Taking the advice of some reviewers, I ordered the Avocado Divine Puffs for starters. This was probably the most disappointing point of the evening. It took an exceptionally long time to arrive, I would guess this due to one waiter and a full dining room. The wait could have been forgiven, but the fact that they arrived cold could not. They were so cold, the cheddar cheese on the inside had not even been melted to begin with, you could see the individual shreds (if it had been melted, then cooled, it would have looked more combined). This was way beyond acceptable, and the waiter was made aware of the situation very quickly. The replacement Puffs were actually hot and gooey, and tasted great. My beef Red Curry, "Thai Spicy" (their ultimate level of spice I guess) minus eggplant was good. The slices of beef were very tender and juicy, much more so than in any curry I've had before. Because I am so used to slightly thinner, drier slices, I actually found the larger, juicier portions not as much to my liking. Flavor was terrific, slightly sweet, and fantastic over the rice. Unfortunately, I was not so impressed that I would return to Red Ginger alone. If someone wanted to go, and wanted to take me, I wouldn't say no however.

Found on Yelp. Glad we did. We will be back. The ingredients were fresh, the presentation was good, the meal was flavorful. The price was a bit high, especially when compared with say Tai Orchid which has similar quality food.

Just have to add that I recently visited Red Ginger with a family member who is intolerant to gluten. Many restaurants have become aware of the growing number of celiac diagnoses and gluten intolerance. Red Ginger is no exception to this and they were able to accommodate us wonderfully. Most likely it's as easy as replacing soy sauce with wheat free tamari so I'm quite glad they have caught on. Bravo! Everything was fabulous and we left very happy.

Seeking something spicy, I ordered their chicken cajun lunch special ($7.50): a medley of stir-fried vegetables and chicken pieces in their spicy sauce, served with a side of white rice. And of course, I told my server to make the dish extra spicy. FYI, Red Ginger also offers a brown rice option. The atmosphere is a relatively formal, dark, intimate setting, While it could be nice on date night, I frankly found the place too dark for my liking. Red Ginger does a very good job with making a flavorful dish pack respectable heat. The perfectly cooked stir-fried vegetables made the dish very vibrant. The rice was cooked perfectly as well. Some of the chicken pieces were a bit dry (overcooked), but that's the danger one may face in that situation (as opposed to a whole cooked chicken breast or chicken thigh). The spicy sauce had a tang to it, certainly not Southeast Asian in nature. I swear there had to be some type of Mexican hot sauce in there instead. It was unexpected and off-putting at first (it's a Thai place, after all), but I did get used to it as I continued eating. I'd give it about a 6 (or slightly higher) out of 10 on my spicy scale because it left spice burns on my mouth and made me sweat a little (no bad physical pain, though). My server was very professional and friendly. Definitely a model employee. Despite what I felt was overcooked chicken, I had a wonderful overall experience at Red Ginger.

It has been quite a while since we have been here. A few years back we dined in and, from what I remember, it was good but spendy. Decided to give it a shot again today as it has been a while and I needed to give this place another fair shot. We ordered the special- Avocado Red Curry and 2 salad rolls. The food, as I remember it from before, was very good. We especially enjoyed the rolls, and the curry was actually spicy, which is something I can appreciate. Again, the major detractor is the price. I guess it would not have been near as bad without the extra salad rolls. However, just go into it with that in mind and you wont be disappointed! FYI: If you get food to go, they give you a cardboard crate to carry out with. SOOOOO much better then a crummy plastic bag that is sure to leak at some point before getting home.

Great Asian fusion cuisine. They gave us a house soup to try which was awesome. Decor is nice and endearing. The avocado puffs were great for appetizers. Will definitely try again

Based on the reviews, my expectations were fairly high walking into Red Ginger. Which may explain a portion of my overall disappointment. My girlfriend and I ordered a lettuce wrap to start, followed by Pad Thai and their special, Avocado Curry, for entrees. The appetizer came quickly and was passable, but didn't impress me as having a markedly unique or fresh taste. It was standard. The entrees were a long time coming because of a mixup in the kitchen. Normally, I understand those sorts of situations, but when we had arrived, we were the only people in the restaurant, so we were at a loss as to how our meals could have been completely forgotten. As a result, one of the entrees was free, and that was a nice gesture. However, the food was nothing special. The Pad Thai was generic. The Avocado Curry was watery and the avocados themselves were well past ripe. It just didn't strike me as fresh or flavorful. I think "bland" would be the best word for it. I couldn't eat much of it. I should mention that the curry was ordered "gluten free", but I got the impression that it was a naturally GF dish, rather than being prepared that way specially. I normally don't like to report negatively on local businesses, but I felt the rating really needed to come down a little on this restaurant. It is decidedly not as good as Lanxang or even Thai Lotus, so I feel it shouldn't be ranked comparatively. But it should certainly be noted that individual experiences can vary greatly, and it could have been that they were just having a very off night.

This place was great. It was a bit fancy for the lunch I came in for, but the prices were right. :) I got the Pad Thai and it was delicious! I loved that there were bits of tofu in my Chicken Pad Thai. The service was prompt and friendly.

This place is a Thai-leaning Asian fusion restaurant. I've never been for dinner, but the lunch menu offers a variety of reasonably priced dishes. The presentation is clean and elegant and the food is flavorful. The pad thai is good.
