This is El Salvadorian food...I ALWAYS come here when I'm feeling like El Salvadorian/Meixcan food. I always get the pollo ala crema..I've never had anything better than the one that they make here. I love the family that owns the restaurant..the wife is quite a character and always makes me feel welcomed. The husband and son are the ones that make the food..he will come in early in the morning just to prepare everything..and they're not open til much later in the afternoon. They make their tortilla chips along with their salsa which you can also buy to go. During summer they open up their outdoor seating, their margaritas are really good..and it's so relaxing just sitting in the sun throwing back a few coronas/modelos or sipping on a margarita. She tries to teach me Spanish whenever I come in, I just love the welcome feeling, and she always always always knows what we want..even if I don't go there for over a year..down to the T. This restaurant is located in Keizer which is far especially if you're coming from S. Salem, but it is so worth it.

Los Dos is the definition of comfort food. It is greasy and delicious. Teresa, the owner has become a close family friend. I have celebrated every birthday here since I was born! My family is here at least every other week. I love how everything is always fresh and the recipes never change. I can always count on consistent amazingness. (:

Salvadorean AND Mexican food? Yum! Low key atmosphere with kitchy design might make you think twice about stopping here, but get over that faulty instinct and walk on in. You will not regret it! Great menu, with something to appeal to everyone. Starting with the requisite fresh chips and salsa (with just enough heat), then moving on to an appetizer (try the fried yucca root; fried but not greasy, and tasty with the shredded cabbage). Whole beans and rice with the entree were better than the average, and definitely try out any of the Salvedorean meals, you can't go wrong!

I truly do not believe you will find better Mexican or Salvadorian food within the Willamette Valley! Upon entering this time around, I noticed that they have made some recent décor improvements, with the typical festivities and feel of your typical Mexican restaurant. The owner (who always seems to be there) is absolutely fantastic. She's friendly, fun, remembers most of her patrons, and she was super sweet to my infant son. She also seems passionate about the food that is served (she frequently makes menu suggestions, some of which aren't yet on the menu.) I looked at the menu anyhow, considering that they have a large and wonderful selection of Salvadorian and Mexican dishes. This time around, I took one of her suggestions and ordered some sort of Chicken enchilada in a lovely spinach cream sauce. While waiting for that to arrive, we had the normal bean dip (it is spectacular here) and salsa (also drool-worthy) and chips. I have absolutely no complaints, although I would be slightly happier if the chips were a bit salted. Once the food arrived, I was in heaven. I don't think I have ever (out of the THOUSANDS of restaurants I've eaten at) had better food. Note - When you find yourself using every bit of rice on your plate, chips left in the bowl, etc, to soak up every last drop of sauce on your plate (because it's just too good to let go)....You KNO IT'S GREAT FOOD! If licking your plate wasn't frowned upon, I would have licked it clean. All in all, it's a clean, fun, and DELICIOUS dining experience that I highly recommend to anyone! Note - try the spinach cream sauce enchiladas, pork and cheese papusa, and really everything else on the menu. Come back several times if you have to :)

PLEASE READ THIS I have a bit of travel under my belt, and have eaten at many a different restaurant. Understand that this sentence does not come lightly: This is my favorite restaurant. Mind you, yes, the food was amazing. Everything is obviously cooked when you ordered it, but it's also PREPARED as you order it. For example, I had the quesadilla. The jalapenos, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and other vegetables were freshly diced at the point of order. The tortilla chips, tortillas, salsa, and and bean dip are all house-made. Everything is a personal recipe of the owner, from the chicken marinade, to the margarita (with strawberries from local fruit stands). And, of course, the service was incomparable. The owner was at our table every few minutes, checking up on us and telling us different things about the history of the restaurant. And when I asked for more salsa, the wait for a refill was under 30 seconds. The owner's daughter was also over occasionally just to talk, and was always very cheerful, insightful, and happy. Plus, the atmosphere was perfect. There was a party in the back room of raucous (but respectful) patrons all having a great time, and the tables were all filled with well-mannered people. It seemed as though everyone was on a personal-basis with the owner. At one point, a small child ran in and gave the owner a hug. It felt genuinely like a family-based operation. Lastly, this place has no advertisement. Nothing in the papers, no radio, no magazines, fliers, or anything of the sort. This place relies on word-of-mouth only. When I called this my "favorite restaurant," it's because of all these things. But I implore you, please pay this place a visit to see what I mean. Stay and have a drink, talk to the staff, and just enjoy. Also, thank you to everyone there for the most enjoyable dining experience I've ever had.

My wife and I visited this establishment once in the past and decided to give it another go last night, here are my findings... FOOD: The food options here include the regular Mexican food fare as well as some Salvadorian options that I think most palettes might find enticing. The quality and freshness of the food is always good. The preparation methods of the food here is definitely different from other Mexican places in Salem/Keizer - I would say that most of the food here seems to be prepared a bit on the lighter side, by that I mean nothing is greasy, as it tends to be at similar establishments... also, they are the only Mexican restaurant in the area that has a little kick to the salsa, and I thank them for that. SERVICE: The service here is always top notch, very friendly and the owner always remembers you, even if its been months/years since you've been in. AMBIENCE: similar(ish) to other Mexican restaurants in the area but I'd say a bit more cozy. BEER/LIQUOR: They have a great cadillac margarita, and they have a nice variety of "Mexican" beers(bottled). they do not have a bar area but the margaritas surpass most others in the area. ALL-IN-ALL: If you want a slightly different preparation of your favorite mexican food, stop in and give it a shot.

Love at first bite. My my my! Was in town for work and we all went here. My anything-south-of-the-border outlook on food is pretty critical being from Texas. This place delivers. Everything we had was amazing. The service was a bit slow, but we didn't mind, because it was so friendly and pleasant. Mexican AND Salvadoran. PAPUSAS!! Yes yes yes, YES! The owner (I cannot recall her name) seems to know all of her customers and took time out of her day to explain to me (almost Venn diagram style) the difference and similarities between Mexican and Salvadoran tamales. Oh, and salsa is actually hot (good thing).

One of the owners of my company invited me here for dinner last Sunday, and was I ever impressed with my meal. I lived in Salem for18 years, and I can't believe I hadn't given this a try until two years after I moved away! Sorry I didn't discover it sooner. When I first pulled into the parking lot, the building reminded me of some run down fast food place turned restaurant. Do NOT let the outside turn you away. What awaits you inside will charm your taste buds! I have to give a rave review of what others before me already discovered, the Pork Pupusa and Tamale combination. After reading over the entire menu, I decided to branch out and try something with a Yucca root. Never having it before, I thought what the heck. I can also say I never had 'Salvadoran' food before this night. The Yucca root/Cole Slaw mixture was very different but exploding with great taste. I could of asked for seconds all around if I hadn't eaten so many chips and salsa before hand. Oh, and that's another thing, the Salsa was great tasting and the chips were very, very fresh. My meal was very satisfying, and I will definitely make it a point to come back here when I am in the Salem/Keizer area.

The staff is very friendly. The food is smothered in enchilada sauce so it all tastes the same. The re-fried beans are watery you have to eat them with a spoon. We ate here because of the great reviews. I don't know if we were here on a bad night, or if people have that low of standard of food. Either way, we wont be back. I was surprised when my tamale and burrito were were sitting in a pool of this sauce and it was the only flavor to my meal. My wife's enchilada and chile relano were the same. Watery, and very tough to eat.

Finally someplace good to eat when my husband and I are visiting Grandma in Keizer. Adorable warm Latin decor and an owner who waits on tables all help to make this a memorable place. I have only had Salvadorian food a few times in SF and was eager to try it again. This places serves both Salvadorian and traditional Mexican food. The chips and salsa are homemade and crazy good, they even had a small dish of warm beans for the chips which was fabulous. I tried the Pupusa filled with pork and cheese it was delicious. I also had a combination plate with shrimp and a skirt steak, beans, rice and tortillas. The shrimp was cooked to perfection plump and moist, but the steak was a bit tough. Their tortillas are fresh and I could eat those all day long with their black beans. I washed it all down with a thirst quenching margarita on the rocks. Yum! This looks like a great place for large groups too.

This place is so good. I have been going here for so many years and its one of the only Mexican restaurants I will go to. The prices are really good and the food is all good. I haven't had anything bad yet. It isn't all pre made either, so I am able to ask for customizations if I need to. It is owned by the nicest lady and she is always out there working, and greeting you with a big smile.. I definitely recommend going here if you want a good Mexican restaurant and especially if you don't want to pay really high prices!

The food was AMAZING! Hailing from Portland, I'm a bit of a food snob, but ventured out to Keizer hoping for a decent meal. I was not disappointed! The food was fresh, homemade, and delicious. Don't expect speedy service, but the dishes are worth the wait. The staff are friendly, attentive, and the atmosphere is inviting. My new favorite Salvadoran/Mexican restaurant ever!

Fantastic restaurant. We just happened to find this place but are so glad we did. The food was delicious, reasonably priced and delicious. The restaurant was very clean and the staff both pleasant and helpful. Both my wife and I are happy to recommend this restaurant and we will be sure to return.

First Time for Salvadoran food! Very good. Loved the bean dip and salsa that came with the chips. I had the combo plate with a tamal and pupusa. It came with fried yucca root which had shredded cabbage and a nice red sauce. There were red beans with a great flavor and a nice rice side as well. The flavors were wonderful. My partner had a chicken enchilada in a creme sauce that was very good. The portions were reasonable. Our waitress (the owner) informed us that everything is scratch made on the premises. It certainly tasted like it. Oh, and don''t forget that they made a very nice margarita. But even better, they really know how to make a mojito. The pace was slower than you might find in a norte americano joint, but that is part of the ambiance, enjoy,

I tried this place when visiting Portland a few years ago. A friend highly recommend it but I was skeptical since it was a bit of a drive. Plus, I have lived in Southern California all my life and we have tons of great Mexican food here, so I wasn't sure what to expect. To my wonder and surprise, the food was excellent!!! Probably the BEST Mexican food I have ever experienced. But I think it was the Salvadorean influence that really impressed me and made it different than standard Mexican food. The owners and family were very nice and I would recommend this place to anyone! I try to make it a point to visit anytime I am in the Portland area.

Hey, the Pupusa here is great! Never had it nor Salvadoran food for that matter but glad I did. From the time you walk in, you are greeted by a very friendly staff who does a great job "waiting and explaining". The chips were some of the best I have had in a restaurant in some time, the salsa while VERY fresh and tasty, was a bit hot for me. I had a Salvadoran dish, the combination Tamale and Pupusa. The Tamale was tasty but they cook it differently from Mexican style. Theirs is more a softer, rubbery corn meal case where as Mexican style is firmer. The beans and rice were VERY different, with the beans being more firmer and larger and a color like a kidney bean. The rice was yellow and both beans and rice were cooked to perfection. The Pupusa's with this meal are like cornmeal pancakes with finely shredded chicken in a light sauce mixed. WOW! Also, the restrooms are clean as were the overall condition of the place. Value? Fair for what you got and worth every cent. A must stop when in Keizer!

My Wife and I walked in and the people here just stared and pointed to where we could sit. then we looked at the menu to discover that there are no refills on the soft drinks, stupid, but forgivable. Our waitress, however, was not forgivable. She had an apathetic mood to our presence and barely said a word, then after the check came we waited for 10 minutes while she fiddled with a plant to charge us. All of this would have gone without much of a fuss, exept we saw how they treated another couple people when they showed up to the store. Pleasantries a plenty, but for my Wife and I we got the cold shoulder. Needless to say, we will not be going here again.

One thing to note about this family-run operation is that it is a Salvadoran restaurant as well as Mexican. This is the place to go if you're jonesin' for papusas. Even if you're not jonesin' for the papusas you should go and at least try them because they're the best. And cheap too.

This is one our favorite places to chow down in Keizer. Mama Maria has brought authentic Salvadorian food to our neighborhood and it is delicious. I consider myself a food snob and the slim choices of quality food in the greater Salem area is disappointing. We can always count on a great meal, good drinks and amazing service.

I had some very tasty pupusas. I did not overly enjoy the tamale as it felt overly hydrated not like others I have had. They have cute out door dining area but the traffic from the main road can be distracting if looking to have conversation. Service was OK but I had to find the waiter for water. I understand being busy but it did not appear to be busy at all. Overall decent experience. I would recommend the pupusas and will try another dish next time. I will say that the Cadillac Margarita was a stiff one. Definitely won't be driving after one of those whoo iee

Fabulous food!!!! I had arroz con pollo and my hub had enchiladas a la crema and a chile relleno. Best meal in a long time... Our new favorite in Salem/Keizer! GREAT service! I went here after going on a long hike with my girlfriend. Needless too say I was hungry when I first got there since I planned poorly and brought no food on the hike. The service was quick and perfect. Chips, salsa, and beans! Oh, and did I mention we were super hungry? We burned through the first basket of chips in no time and they had another basket in front of us while literally picking up the last chip from the first basket. We were very please to see they brought us another round of brands and salsa as well. The food! It came quickly and was pretty tasty. Since it was a salvadorian place, I tried the Papusas and was pleasantly pleased. Gf had enchilada and burrito and also was happy. Left stuffed and not broke. 4.5/5 stars if I could! The $1.50 sodas with no refills is the only thing keeping this place from a 5 stars. Seriously great service though!

I've eaten here a few times, but always stuck to the standard burrito, which was good, but about what you'd expect....it's a burrito. The last time I went, I wanted to branch out a little. It helped that the waitress helping me was not only extremely friendly, but very knowledgeable and was absolutely devoted to the restaurant (I'm pretty sure she was part of the family who owns the place). I asked her a few questions this time. Specifically about the fried yucca root and just what exactly a pupusa was. She said that the yucca root is very similar to a potato, and that the pupusa was a corn-based toritilla, sort of piled flat around shredded pork and cheese, beans and cheese, or just cheese. I went for the shredded pork and cheese pupusa and chicken tamale with fried yucca root combo. It came with their El Salvadorian beans and rice. She was so excited for me to try their signature dishes (especially the pupusa), it made ME excited to eat it. She also told me that since they were hand-made when ordered, it might take a little while. This did not worry me, as I had a cold Dos Equis at my side and a basket of some of the tastiest corn chips and spicy salsa I've had in a long while. Despite being warmed of a long wait time, my dish came out quickly. I will say that I tried the beans, and I am simply not a "bean person." I've never been fond of them. The Salvadorian beans definitely had a different flavour than your regular refried or black beans (which they offer as an option), but beans in general are just not to my taste. The rice was fluffy and very flavourful. The chicken tamale was a chicken tamale...nice and dense, with a great taste to the chicken. But the main event was definitely the pupusa. It's texture was flaky, almost like a pastry, but dense...you could definitely chew it. And it wasn't crammed full of stuffing...it was a thin, very tasty layer that perfectly complimented the hand-made tortilla. And combined with the yucca root, which was like a much denser potato, with a great texture and taste, made it simply perfect. I can see why the pupusa is a signature dish...it is absolutely delicious, and I was craving another one almost as soon as I left the front door. The tamale was good, for a tamale, but next time I will bypass that and just go for the two pupusas. I was sad that the sodas cost $1.50 and they do not offer refills. Usually this drops my rating down a star...but not this time. Water is plentiful and cold, and a great Mexican beer makes the perfect compliment to this wonderfully unique restaurant in Keizer.

We had salvadorean food the night before after we underestimated the drive time it would take us from Seattle to Portland. The place we went to tho doesn't even get close to Los Dos Hermanos food selection and friendly service. I was surprised when friends mentioned a salvadorean restaurant in their neighboorhood of Salem which is quite a ways from Portland. Willing to try just about everything once we went for lunch and it didn't disappoint us. The owner also waits on the tables and it's a cute little place. I really liked their decorations. They serve both mexican and salvadorean dishes and have quite a big selection. Our friends never had salvadorean food so this was a good way to try it. The plates are really big. I had the camarones acajutla and they were very good. The plate is served with rice and beans and the shrimp were prepared with onions, bell peppers and tomatoes. The price for four was very reasonable and we'd love to come visit this place again.

Best pupusas in Salem or maybe all of Oregon, served by efficient, friendly family folk. I've only tried the Salvadoran selections (it's not hard to find decent Mexican, after all) but it's all been fantastic! I ordered pupusas de queso con loroco (not on the menu, but they ought to be) and they happily made them for me. Perfect choice for casual atmosphere and phenomenal food at super reasonable prices. Try the yucca or the platanos. Enjoy!

Been here once before and it wasn't bad. Came back for a bday occasion and the service was definitely lacking a lot. Never got a second cup of water even after seeing them walk around with a jug. The food was definitely mediocre. My burrito was very plain with little flavor and the enchilada was definitely just a soggy tortilla with chicken. The sauce was very weird, almost like some pasta sauce. Most likely won't come back nor recommend it, I do know others enjoy it just not for me. Love the owners vibes though, very happy person.

Pretty small restaurant and I liked the decor but the food just wasn't what I was expecting. Lots of pulled/shredded meat in the dishes (I got a burrito and my wife had a taco dish) but I'm not really crazy about shredded meat except for at BBQ joints. This is the first Salvadoran restaurant I've been to so maybe it's not totally accurate to compare it to straight Mexican dishes. The lunch specials are cheap and I believe the owner may have greeted and served us. She was very nice.

From service to food to cocktails, this place is one of the most amazing, family run, establishments in the pacific northwest. Amazing from start to finish, a must place to eat. Tell the wondrous owner Teresa that Edward sent you. You won't be disappointed.

Los Dos Hermanos was a great find for me. I was driving from LA to Canada and had stopped in Salem OR for the night. Found Los Dos on Yelp and headed on over. What a treat to find some Salvadoran food on the menu in addition to the traditional Mexican Fare. The service was excellent and the owner seated me. I had platanos as a side with my Salvadoran dinner. After dinner I spoke with the owner about Salvadoran food and some places in my home town. She was great and we had a nice chat. If you go to Los Dos - I would recommend the Salvadoran menu items. You an get traditional Mexican almost anywhere - but to find Salvadoran food is indeed rare.

The food is good, and so are the drinks. The service is slow to order, and slow to come but is worth it. In any case I would come back to eat again. The atmosphere is a bit above average, but the noise is exceptionally low. Over all it is a good restraunt. PS just a warning although very good the burritos come wet.

I'm not really sure why I haven't reviewed this place yet! I am SUCH A FAN!!! This seriously is as good as it gets for service and food! This is the one place where I try to order something new or ask the owner what she recommends every time. The mango margaritas??? Ummm, yes please! The salsa? Yum! I just love this place. It's my favorite "Mexican" restaurant, even though its Salvadorian. I have been here many times and any chance I get when going out for mexican I try to talk someone into driving out to Keizer for a meal with me! I'm all about good service combined with good food and this place gets 5 stars for both!

Usually this drops my rating down a star...but not this time. Water is plentiful and cold, and a great Mexican beer makes the perfect compliment to this wonderfully unique restaurant in Keizer.

I implore you, little, lovely restaurant, shed the unnecessary tex-mex concoctions and embrace your delicious salvadoran roots! Don't be afraid! Take the leap of faith and I believe your customers will follow, enticed by the aroma of tasty papusas.

Love this place. I have never been disappointed. I've even introduced it to tons of people. Try the pupusas, and the platanos con crema; they are great.

The owners make you feel like family. Amazing service, fantastic food, and you have to order plantains!!! They are why I come here every time I'm in town. I ask for mine extra crispy. Great for groups and also great for lunch.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
