Absolutely love the freshness of the food and excellent atmosphere at Cherry's Nagani in Keizer! Food isn't frozen, but extremely fresh and ingredients are of the highest standard (and I'm no stranger to sushi restaurants). Love Cherry and "Uncle Jack" and feel that I'm going there for a kind-of warm, inviting, family type experience, as they make me feel as if I am part of the family. She showed me a 100 rating from the health inspector, and says she has had that same rating for many years, and you can tell! The time and attention they spend to make their customers happy, translates directly into great, fresh and healthy Japanese food (not just sushi -- try the soups:) and an experience that has me coming back... See you soon guys!

First off, this restaurant claims to be over 4 stars which I'm just dumbfounded by because it's not even close to it. I came on a Friday evening. Super small inside and the Ac wasn't on, I was extremely I and my brother asked for some iced waters. The lady whom I think was the owner said that the faucet doesn't run good water and it's "not good" so she offered us some bottled water for $1. Which I quickly said no thanks. WHAT RESTURANT DOESNT SERVE FREE WATER OR HAVE A RUNNING FAUCET!?! We waited and waited finally got our sushi. I asked which was which they didn't even know. The spicy mayo was not. It was a pile of mayo with a splash of soy sauce. Got 3 rolls for $26! Never again will I return to this place. Wasn't satisfied, wasn't full and very disappointed.

Extremely nice wife and husband team. Cherry is an absolute sweetheart. The eggflower soup is housemade on the spot, which is very delectable. But coming from California the sushi is not up to par. Poorly executed and constructed rolls. The smoked salmon Pbilly Roll was topped with burnt sesame seeds which were awesomly over powering in a bad way. Also the smelt roe was so frozen it almosts hurts to eat. All in all we left unsatisfied and disappointed. Will we find good sushi here in Oregon? P.S. no free water.

This is a tiny place with only 4 small tables and 4 bar stools. It is run by a very friendly woman and her daughter. We sat on the bar stools and watched our sushi being made. It was really delicious. We were traveling from California to Washington and this place is right off the freeway. We wanted interesting, good, non-chain ethnic food and felt very lucky to find this place in a mini-mall. Very clean, too.

Tiny little place run by mom & pop. Super sweet couple who make all of it to order. Only a few tables, so don't be in a rush to eat! Very fair prices and decent sushi. Quaint decor, nothing very fancy.

Incredible, fresh, high quality sushi. Very authentic offerings. Small seating area, amazing service. This place feels like the Cheers of Sushi restaurants. Every time we go in, Cherry knows us by name, and always asks how we are. Sweet family, local business, excellent food.

Best sushi is the Salem area. It is family run. Love the care the owners put into the food. Small location creates a great environment.

It's definitely an authentic flavor. I've traveled many times to Japan, and this place is the closest to the real thing in this area. The service is very warm and homey.

Didn't expect to find a really great sushi place this easy and Keizer Oregon. Carrie is is amazing all fresh food easy to tell the cooked and the vegetarian from the raw. The shrimp Dragon was amazing.

Don't order to go. I went it once and had a good experience, prices were a little high but I enjoyed supporting a family business. So I wanted to return. I called in a to go order of 1 rainbow roll and 1 California hand roll - both with no sauces or sesame seeds. I even repeated my order a few times to ensure he wrote it down properly and he said he got it. When I got there I paid for my food while they finished making it ($17). I opened up my box and it was 1 rainbow roll (correct) and 1 California roll with sesame seeds (not a hand roll, and had seeds). I pointed out the mistake and she basically repeatedly told me that her husband didnt know English very well and must have misheard me, but that she would not give me my money back or make me the correct item. She kept telling me if I wanted the hand roll I would have to pay another $12 for them to make it. We went in circles about this until I got so frustrated I just left. I wanted her to either refund the money, or make me what I actually ordered. She basically admitted they probably took the order wrong, but refused to fix their mistake in any shape or form unless I was gonna pay another $12. Bummer.

Was ok. Grew up in LA. Have been to many sushi places. This was a mom and pop for sure. People were super friendly. Food was fresh small to average portion. Nothing exciting. Momoji and creps, on silverton rd. much better. My two cents.

My partner and I dined here the other day. What an amazing place. Cherry, the owner was friendly and helpful with our choices. The sushi was flavorful and filling. I had her lemongrass chicken and my partner had several rolls. The lemongrass chicken was absolutely amazing. Warm flavors and sweet undertones made this dish like no others I have ever tasted. Her side salad was also amazing, not too sweet and nicely balanced against the chicken. Before leaving she encouraged us to try the eel. I declined but my partner dove right in. He said it was spectacular. Seating is limited, and as this place gets more popular, it may become an issue. As we sat there dining, many folks came in and got orders to go, so that may be a way to get your sushi and eat it too! The prices are about average for the Salem area, so you won't break the bank.

I was welcomed very warmly upon my first step in. I chose a seat by their menu board that had some pictures of their popular rolls and combos. Prices are excellent and the food is fresh. The crab is real crab! So delicious. I went for the Keizer roll with crab, next time I need to order it spicey. Not quite filling so I went for the Unagi Caterpillar, fresh and light. Very refreshing taste. They appear limited on their spicey rolls, but the fresh everything earns them a four :)

Great sushi, one of my favorite places to go for sushi. Only thing that I don't like is they aren't open on Sundays.

When we arrived, we were grumpy about unfruitful house hunting, but this little sushi place and the wonderful owners turned all that around. We left happy and full. Good, flavorful sushi. Outstanding service. A guaranteed cure for the grumps.

It's a very small place, but thats the beauty of it. It's very homey and the owners are very kind and helpful. The restaurant was empty when I arrived and they were very welcoming, they pointed out their favorites on their menu and engaged in very pleasant conversation. I decided to order a curry rice bowl, a spicy tuna roll and the well known California roll. The curry was very delicious. I would say their portion was rather small so it seemed a bit pricey for the bowl. The sushi was very fresh, I can tell they used higher quality ingredients, not only in the texture but in the taste as well. I would recommend this place for a nice evening out. Bringing a date here seems like a good idea because the owners are so friendly they can help out if stuck in an uncomfortable moment. Lol.

We loved this quite clean place. The service was excellent and the food was terrific. The tuna maki and red dragon were favorites

Small shop, very clean and pleasant. Owner and husband run the place, and she's very friendly and enthusiastic. If you're new to sushi, she is happy to teach you what you need to know. There's a good selection of options. We had the rainbow roll (it was awesome), hand rolls (one ahi, one salmon), sashimi (ahi, salmon, yellowtail, and one more variety, served with a bit of rice on the side), and nigiri plate. All of them tasty, well made, and pretty. There are pictures of all the items on the wall, which is helpful. The menu clearly marks which items are cooked, and which are vegetarian. Highly recommended -- one of the best restaurants in Salem!

Came to this place for the first time today and was very impressed. The owner and her husband were very nice and helpful and their food is made fresh and good priced. I don't care for sushi too much, but I really enjoyed what I had here

Absolutely fantastic food and service. My fiancé and I were craving sushi yesterday and after reading a bunch of reviews, we decided to try out Cherry's for ourselves. The rolls and the nigiri we ordered were beautifully presented and the taste was outstanding. Cherry was very friendly and even made us some customized sushi rolls with a combination of house sauces sauces she thought we'd really like; they were absolutely superb. The amount of fish to rice ratio was great, unlike a lot of places we've been, Cherry's does not skimp on the fish. Speaking of the fish, you could tell it was all fresh top quality stuff. The fact she also uses real crab was amazing. When getting ready to leave, Cherry was sweet enough to give me a to-go cup so we could take the remaining tea we had in the pot with us. We will definitely be back!

Really good food. From a Japanese person, this is probably the best sushi and sashimi in town. The color is good and the preparation is top notch. I have no problem writing good reviews for this place.

Followed another reviewers suggestions on the calamari salad and miso soup appetizers. I enjoyed them, my wife who is very sensitive to salt and spicy thought they were a bit too of each. The edemame helped with that. They were happy to accommodate my dislike of avocado - using carrots instead. They also de-spicy 'd the Rainbow roll for my wife. Drinks consist of a variety of bottled beverages - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. One of the few places outside of Costco I've seen Mexican Coca-Cola. My wife thought the Rainbow Roll was excellent - and just the right amount of heat for her, since they left off the Sirachi (sp?) at her request.

Excellent sushi served by the cutest couple ever. We'll definitely be back. Can't wait to try their rice bowls and curry dishes!

Freshest Sushi in Salem. Cherry makes you feel as if she is serving you right from her kitchen at home. She was in the restaurant business for 25+ years in Honolulu, so her food is a Pacific/Asian Fusion. I find it delightful that even though she is originally from China, she can make anything after living in Hawaii, and is especially good @ Japanese food. Her place is small, and very clean. You will like the experience of her sweet outgoing personality as much as her authentic local food. Give it a try.

This is one of my favorite places to eat. The food is fresh, delicious, and healthy, and the calamari salad can't be beat. The owners are wonderful, and every time I eat here I feel like I'm sitting down with family. Thanks Cherry, Jack & Linda for a great dining experience!

Very enjoyable experience. Definitely a must for sushi lovers! Food: Best sushi I've probably ever had Service: The owner served us and was the sweetest person and so attentive Venue: Odd location in a low end strip mall for such good food. Odd decor. Very clean!

  • Steven C.

Very nice people, it is like being served by your mother and you cannot find better sushi in Oregon. All the food is as fresh as you can get and they don't skimp on the meat! No watered down tea either! The only problem I have is, being a small place with 3 tables and a few bar seats, there might not be enough room for all the people if too many learn how good the food is! I usually order Tea, Miso Soup, Keizer Roll (Crab), Caterpillar Roll, and some Tamago for desert. ^_^

My husband and I have been here several times. We go here whenever we are craving sushi. It is definitely in our top 3 (the others are in Las Vegas). Try the rainbow roll, Keizer roll and the spicy tuna. You will not be disappointed!

Food is delicious. Very fresh. The place is clean and super friendly. Food made to order. Was our first time there and we were very flexible, never having tried some of the items before. Owners were helpful and friendly and pictures on the wall helped too. Definitely will go back.

my boyfriend and I are new to the area. moving from an area where sushi was popular, i was in search of a new favorite! I looked on yelp for some help :) I saw that other places although many reviews, didnt have good reviews. I suggested this one afternoon and super glad that we stopped by! It was quite but we had a good talk with the owners, nice pot of tea on a cold Salem day & yummy sushi that makes me come back for more! :) my boyfriend tried tried the rainbow roll which he LOVED. I forgot what I had being it was awhile ago but whatever it was... it was delicious!!

Cherry, the owner, was very friendly and really pushed for me to try her sushi, which she calls the best in town. I had a curry craving, so I ordered the chicken curry bowl instead ($4.95). I really liked the color of the curry. A very deep brown-yellow color reminiscent of the way my mom prepared hers. I would have liked bolder curry flavor, but instead I got hit with a bunch of sweetness, probably from the sweetness of the carrots and perhaps some sort of sweetener added to the entree itself. Perhaps adding some onion, celery, and/or some more spice could improve the dish. The curry just felt and looked a bit too one-dimensional. The sushi prices can get quite pricey, so if I do try that, I'll be expecting some top-notch stuff, especially after the hype the owner gave.

Second and third visits were both very good although the sushi/sashimi was not as perfect as first experienced. The curry noodles with chicken and shrimp were amazing though.

We stopped at this VERY clean little restaurant for dinner on our way to Sisters. The owners are very friendly and the food was fresh and well prepared. My husband is a vegetarian so the color coded menu was very helpful as he knew right away which dishes were meatless. I highly recommend this little place, it was a very pleasant experience!

This place seems out of place in terms of location but it's definitely a hidden gem! It's a small but very clean and cute restaurant run by a husband and wife. Upon entering we were greeted by the owner and were treated great. She gave us tips on what to order and was making nice, small conversation with us. Food was delicious. We started with miso soup which was made fresh! Not premade nor was it instant. Also got soy beans which were served hot and salted. The sushi was fantastic, you could taste that the fish was fresh which made it that much better. My friends and I highly recommend this place! A bit pricy but what sushi place isn't? 5 stars!

You couldn't have done worse if you tried. I was looking forward to enjoying a delicious lunch with my mom and sister in-law and we left feeling nauseated and offended. We called to make sure the place was open and after we arrived an hour and a half later the owner was sitting at the table wondering what took us so long to arrive. Strange we thought but went ahead and ordered 3 miso soups, I was confused when the soup arrived and there was no sign of tofu, instead the consistency was dark and had tiny white chunks. In my current state of hunger, and against my better judgement I took a sip. Not good. I passed on the soup and hoped the spicy tuna roll and caterpillar roll would be better. The spicy tuna roll arrived and to my surprise it wasn't what I expected. It was chunks of tuna with a drop of hot sauce on top. I waited for my sister to try it first and she said it was ok so I proceeded. It was not horrible but not good either. Although, she said she was hungry enough to eat dirt several minutes earlier, I'm not sure why I trusted her judgement. The next roll arrived and it was great if all you like is avocado. The Unami was the size of a pea and smothered with avocado. I decided to go for a 2nd piece of the spicy tuna and to my surprise and disgust I found a hair in it!!! When we confronted the owner about it she was apologetic and said it may be one of her eyebrow hairs which I find suspicious considering her eyebrows were completely shaved off and tattooed on. Although the owner is a sweet lady and didn't charge us for the hairy spicy tuna, she should keep more hair on her face and less on her food! If you love sushi, skip this place!!!

You don't even need to like sushi to enjoy eating here. Have been a couple times for lunch and both times the food was great. Love the chicken and shrimp noodle soup...perfect for a cold day. Owners are friendly and the place is small but clean.

Cherry's is the best Salem sushi that I have experienced so far. I have been there 3 times and have always been impressed with the taste, friendliness and freshness. We usually start with the cucumber salad which is cold and fresh prepared. Always a nice way to begin. Any of the rolls or sashimi that we have tried so far have been excellent. A few times she has recommended letting her prepare it "home-style", which basically means a heaping helping of roe on top :) Cherry and her Husband are from Hawai'i. I don't know enough about sushi to know whether or not Hawai'i has developed it's own signature, but it's definitely unique in terms of Salem/Portland's offerings. The curry is also excellent. I was hesistant to try it at first, as from my experience curry dishes in a restaurant that offers primarily sushi are generally somewhat of an after-thought. However it is very obvious that her curry is thoughtfully-prepared and has a very stew-like, satisfying quality to it. I would highly recommend Cherry's Nagani!

  • Kim L.

Nagani Sushi is my next door neighbor. I send ALL of my customers to them. They opened about the same time I did. I love ALL of their home made soups. They have the freshest sea food around. My clients have become repeat clients of theirs. It's very small and the service is great. Cherry is so friendly and has been doing this for around 30+ years. I have clients who tell me it's the best sushi they have EVER had. My favorite: fish soup with fish, shrimp, rice noodles, spinach and green onions. Fills me up for the whole day. Also the shrimp salad rolls, the keizer rolls and the california rolls are all really good. Oh, and the EGG FLOWER soup, is the best I've EVER had. And just $3. She makes her own broth. No MSG in any of her food.

  • Catherine H.

Oh...MY GOD, this place is amazing! By far the best sushi restaurant in either Salem or Keizer. Went there with my parents and we had the California roll, Philadelphia roll, smoked salmon roll and green dragon rolls. Every roll was better than the last, and the smoked salmon roll was the best I'd ever had. Very friendly service, very fresh food, and well worth the cost, if you think it's pricey. We couldn't stop raving! Highly, highly recommended and I can't wait to return!

Seriously good sushi and service! This was my first trip to Cherry's and I'm impressed. It's my new favorite sushi restaurant. The food is very fresh and lovingly prepared by the family that owns the restaurant. The restaurant is very clean and tidy and the staff go out of their way to make sure that you get top-notch customer service. I'm looking forward to visiting them again soon!
