A perfect pub for a rainy night of camping. The beer and food was delicious. Only exceeded by the service. The owner Theresa made us feel warm and welcome as if we were locals. The best pub in town.

This will be a short review as I only stopped here for drinks, but I loved sitting on the terrace. This brew pub offers a reasonable selection of microbrews. They say their selection is largest in E. Oregon, though I counted only 11 that they had in stock that day. (That number includes Widmer, the 9th largest brewers in the US at 450,000 barrels a year, so perhaps not quite a microbrewery) The best thing about this place is their charming wooden terrace out front and on a sunny day, this is it great spot for people watching. With a view over the beautiful, historic main street, Embers is perfect for a relaxing drink with friends. Not too loud either, because Joseph is a small, calm little town. I'll bet Embers is a lovely apres-skiing place in the winter too. Recommended!

We ate at The Embers on a lovely, if hot, late September afternoon for lunch. We sat on the main level of the three level outdoor deck which provides a perfect opportunity for people watching at Joseph's main street and a partial view of the mountains. Overall the setting and people watching were better than the food. We ordered the special of the day, a BLT with avocado sandwhich, which is a pretty hard thing to mess up, but we have to say the kitchen seemed to try to do just that. Although we ordered the sandwich with no mayo it was slathered on to the point that the toasted potato bread which was already pretty cotton ball in texture was made more so. The house salad that was the side was a disappointing composite of wilted iceberg lettuce and bottled (it seemed) dressing. The only thing more plentiful than the people on the deck were the flies. We realize that those pesky things are tough to control in an outdoor setting, but all the diners were swatting them away continually. Not a pleasant experience. The wait staff was very friendly. We'd go back to Embers for a beverage and people watching were we in Joseph again, but for dining we'd look to another Joseph restaurant or pick from a couple of very good options in nearby Enterprise.

After four days and three nights of backpacking in the nearby mountains, we were REALLY looking forward to some beer and pizza. Embers was close by and I had enjoyed a tasty pizza there before so we stopped on by. We ordered a large pizza with veggie toppings. Many pizza places are all about the meat and only have the usual mushrooms, olives, and peppers for veggie options, but this place also had fun toppings like sundried tomatoes, jalapenos, and garlic. They also have a really great beer list. The large outdoor seating area is great on a nice summer evening and it is mostly shaded. We would definitely eat here again.

We've been here multiple times. The food never disappoints. Their pizzas are made to order, we tend to get the BBQ Chicken. Another favorite is the pulled pork sandwich overflows with tender meat. for something a little lighter, i recommend the BBQ chicken salad, but note that it can be a little spicy for some.

If you want to top off your stay in Joseph this is the place to visit. Food, Staff, Service and entertainment (when schedualed) is always great. The entire family always has a blast when we eat here. If anyone has traveled through Joseph they know of the Embers Brew House.

My wife and I were delighted with the food, service and local flavor of this brew house. The pizza was very good and the variety of beers and wines great. This is a relaxing and fun place to experience the alternatinve to traditional chains.

Eating a spectacular Greek classic pizza with fresh basil and kalamata olives, outdoors, with a view of the Eagle Cap mountains, while enjoying a beer. It doesn't get better than that!

The menu had a wide variety of what looked like neat and decently creative choices from pizza to burgers to salad. I got the green chili burger and my wife ordered a calzone. My burger was OK, but nothing too special. There was a single, green chili laid on the patty. Flavor was decent. The fries were some of the best I've had. My wife's calzone tasted good, but a large portion of the dough was raw. The tea was brewed and tasted good.

Had beer here a couple times before, but this time had pizza as well. Nice beer selection with some focus on nearby breweries. Yummy pizza, slightly charred, generous toppings, tasty sauce. Very friendly service. Great place to be sitting on a sunny afternoon

Ok food with good beer selections. The rice bowl thing was way more rice than other toppings (beware -- literally about 4 cups of rice, 1/2 cup of black beans & chicken). The shrimp tacos were excellent!

Great selections of craft beer, delicious made-to-order pizza, and stupendous Wallowa Mountain views await at Embers Brew House. It's an oasis of beer (wine, too), food, and views in a place that you must visit in your lifetime - the Oregon Alps, in the heart of nowhere but in the center of everything that is good in life: honest brews, fresh food, and panoramic views. yelp.com/biz_photos/embe… Also, there are nice people here. That's not to be forgotten. Friendly without being intrusive or cloying, they welcome you to Joseph with freshly poured pints (think: Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA, Big Sky Moose Drool, that sort of thing), an excellent house pizza (the Embers, w/ Canadian bacon, pepperoni, sausage, olives, mushrooms, and green peppers yelp.com/biz_photos/embe… ), and an outdoor patio seating area that has million-dollar views. Multimillion, really. Just look up occasionally from your food and beer and you will be wowed. We certainly were. yelp.com/biz_photos/embe… Plus, there were fried pickles. And Swill. Lots of Swill (a 10 Barrel summer brew, an "American Radler"). All in all, a worthy road trip stop, for 4-wheeled or 2-wheeled adventurers. You don't need to climb Eagle Cap or hike the High Trail in Hells Canyon to appreciate the value of a place like Embers. But it sure helps!

Fast service and friendly which brings me here over the years. Burgers are pretty good. Nice craft beer selection. Pizza was not my favorite though. Just crust preference. I tend to like thin crust. My wife likes it your way. Thanks guys! Will be back again and again.

Would have given them 4 stars..... Atmosphere and food are terrific but the waitress must be going through a divorce... Very curt to the point of rude and made it clear she had better things to do. Great selection of beers burgers pizza and apps. A real gem for a town the size of Joseph. Update!! Sante Fe rice and beans was terrible.

Decent tap selection. Food looked good. Nice staff. I like it.

Service was excellent! We had a calzone and Greek salad and it was delicious. Tried their hard cider, best I've ever had! Great outside and inside seating. Will be back next time we are in town.

Yum! Great pizza and Thai chicken wrap. Great beer and cider choices. They even ran to the store to get more milk for our kids. That's service!

The outdoor patio here is awesome. The food is also fantastic pub fare. The service is friendly and was great at first. Then some guys my server knew came in and she was too busy to notice my card sitting out for 10 minutes. That's fine though. I wasn't in a hurry. Just a little annoyed. I had the local calzone which was super tasty and hit the spot after a long day of hiking. I sat Inside just because I felt like it, and the flys were out of control. They had all the doors to outside open and the pests wouldn't let me eat in peace. The flys and the mediocre service are why I only gave three stars. I would come again though.

This place has awesome Calzones best ever! Plus definitely make a point of trying Ds Wicked Cider not to mention the mozzarella sticks, all in all great service and great food! Definitely recommend!

Been in there a few times recently, and the service is terrible. I can't even review the food because the server was so rude once I didn't want to order food, and the next time I was not even offered a menu. Plus of their '17 brews on tap' and 'largest selection in Eastern Oregon' they seem to be out of half their taps half the time. Don't bother.

Friendly service and good beer. The pizza was okay -- a bit too oily and thin for my taste, but I wouldn't be embarrassed to recommend it to a friend.

Don't miss this place. We stopped there twice during our stay in the area. We found the service and food to be excellent. The beer selection was great and the prices fair. We appreciated the free wifi.

Just ok... The fish tacos shouldn't even be on the menu. The loaded fries were a little soggy. The only saving grace is that I've had a burger here before that was alright. The fish tacos were so greasy I could have wrung out oil and returned it but I was in a hurry so I didn't.

The perfect place to end a day or just get a beer, we will return to Joseph and return to Embers!

We earned our Embers visit with a multi-day backpacking trip in Eagle Cap's beautiful Lakes Basin. The pizza was a welcome relief after backcountry dehydrated meals. Embers offers plenty of options for the discrimating vegetarian. Their beer list is surprisingly extensive. After the backpacking, my body was not prepared for a pizza binge so I ate myself into a food coma, but it was as pleasant a coma as I could possibly imagine!

Fun little place with a good selection of beer, wine, and cider. Pizza was awesome and the servers were friendly. You cannot beat the view from their outdoor patio right on the main drag in Joseph.

Two totally different experiences at this place. The first time was fantastic, and our server was great, but it was also slow and quiet. The Friday experience, however, was beyond horrendous. We rightfully left our server well below the normal tip. She spilled water all over us and then had the audacity to say "At least I didn't spill salsa on you like I did a child earlier." We wound up flagging down another server to bring our check after waiting 15+ minutes. She was inattentive and disengaged from her job. An unbelievably terrible experience, one of the few worst service experiences I've had in my life.

We had dinner there the other night and was disappointed. I ordered a burger and What I received was meat that appeared and tasted like turkey burger or tofu. The waitress also appeared to dislike her job and\or was having a spat with a co-worker, Not a single smile. Although we were just traveling through, we'll do something else next time.

Every time we come to Joseph we come to the Embers. Always a great and rotating variety of beers. Always friendly and good service. Always good food. We came in tonight just about the time everybody else came in. One energetic waitress was frantically trying to serve us all at once. She never once lost her smile or friendly attitude. If you come to WALLOWA Lake or Joseph, the Embers must be a spot to stop. No I do not work for them. I live in Portland and think this place is better than most of the same type in Portland.

Eh - you could miss this place. The patio is awesome, and friendly more or less. The food is trying to be creative, but not quite there. A tourist spot for sure. But, overall, it is a dependable meal and the service is ok (depending on the server you get).

  • Bob D.

Came here 3x times in a month and thought it was good every time - burgers, pizza, and beer. Their food selection is pub worthy and leaves little be desired when finished. They have about 15 beers that come from all over Oregon and Washington.

We ate here last night (myself, my mom, and my one year old son) while in town for business. The service was great and the waitress was very nice and friendly. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. They have a long list of beers and cider. The food was really good. We ordered a large rustic pizza and added chicken. I would definitely return to eat here again. Highly recommend!

This is a busy joint where people love hanging out for the micro-brews. We ate the pizza and it was exactly average. Nothing to remember or speak negative about. If I ever go back, it's going to be for the ambiance and not the food.

My husband loves this place when we are in Joseph on vacation. He's a big fan of the chicken pizza. I'll typically get the vegetarian calzone. This place has THE BEST OUTSIDE SEATING and good beer and pretty good food. I like this place more for the outside seating than the food, but it's good for eastern oregon. Service is good except when they are busy, then you typically have awhile to wait, which is ok after hiking in the eagle caps for a few days. This is a great place to bring large groups when the weather is good as they can typically handle it. Service is very friendly and environment is pretty clean.

Friendly service, great beer selection, and food choices for our multi-generation family--in fact all eight of us, ranging from 5 to 70 years old, enjoyed our meals. The patio seating provides amazing views of the Wallowa Mountains. Calzones, fish tacos, and quesadillas were all a hit. Southwestern wrap was definitely spicy.

We chose this place after we were turned away at 7:30 at the saloon across the street for dinner. Our rejection was actually a blessing because this place was great! We had a pizza, half garlic chicken and half taco, which was delicious. The service was great and the atmosphere was wonderful for a summer evening meal with fire pits in the outside seating area. My only complaint is that the strawberry lemonade was made with what seemed to be a powdered strawberry mix, I was hoping for actual berries. We would definitely return.

Great beer selection, good people, fun place, but the food left me wanting. My BLT was underwhelming, and not much else on the menu looked appealing. That being said, if you want a beer, this is the place to go.

Embers was a nice relaxing place to drink some beers. They had a lovely dog friendly patio and a nice selection of Oregon drafts on tap. Some of the service was a little questionable (complete disregard for customers) but most of it was good. One young gentleman was exceptional. We also tried some food. It was alright. Nothing special and that is why I only gave them 4 stars. The salads were both limp. I would pass on the food here, maybe just stick to the beers and appetizers. For the appetizers we got the sweet potato tots and the beer battered fries, both of which I strongly recommend. If you are in Joseph, this a great place to stop in the afternoon before heading to dinner.

Good selection of food and beer on the menu. Serviced was a little slow but the atmosphere is relaxed. I had the bbq burger and it was great. Just passing through town but would recommend this place for sure.

Pretty good food. Beer selection is ok..but they have Terminal Gravity so what else do you need? They have an awesome patio area to sit at with an excellent view of the Wallowas.
