Great bbq when they are "on." We were eating here once a week for a while but stopped because of the inconsistency of the food. When it is a good night it is some of the best bbq that I have had...and I have some of the best. I would recommend the brisket. When it is an off night we have had to order out for pizza. The back bar area is amazing ambiance if you are looking for the old school saloon feel. Service is very friendly and their margaritas are fantastic. Good luck!

Delicious!!! Someone in town recommended my family and I try this place for lunch. When you walk in, you get hit with a delicious smell of bbq! Their pulled pork is delicious! Great food!

Great food and prompt service. I had the smoked chicken, bbq beans, and chili. Enjoyed every bit of it.

Split the Roy Rodgers burger with a side of chili. The burger was amazing! Chili was very good as well. Food was plentiful; glad we split a meal.

My wife, daughter and I were looking around Jacksonville for a easy dinner and were lucky we found Back Porch Bar and Grill. I haven't had good BBQ in a long time and this place was just like going back to Texas. The brisket was excellent, juicy and smokey. We had wonderful service, the portions were appropriate. The BBQ sauce has a little heat, I thought it was delicious but my too much heat for little ones. Definitely would come back.

Its not Memphis, Kansas city or Texas... But it's still damn good Q... Staff is over the top... And you better bring an appetite cuz they load it up! It's a nice drive out to Jacksonville, but well worth it.. ***Eat Local***

One of our favorite places in one of our favorite places, historic Jacksonville, Oregon. The restaurant is decorated with a cowboy motif, and offers steaks and burgers named for famous cowboy actors. My daughter loved het Tom Mix burger, a large patty on a tasty bun. My warm spinach salad with bacon and mushrooms was also great. Recommended.

Holy crap. We are BBQ snobs and this place has blown our minds! The food is to die for. I had a brisket jelepeno melt on Texas toast that has ruined all other food for me. It's like heaven in your mouth. Also got the BBQ sampler and the southwest chicken rolls also delicious. Wish they didn't put BBQ sauce right on the brisket in the sampler because it already has such a great flavor. The German sausages were amazing! I was expecting some outdoor seating as the name is back porch BBQ but it's all indoors. Who cares. The food is to die for.

Good food. You're going to be full and you'll be back. Brisket, pulled pork and burgers in that order. Service has muched improved from my last visit.

Oh how I LOVE this place! BF and I went here last year (my first time) and let me just say - I think this is the BEST BBQ I've ever had. Now that's just my opinion (I'm from Texas, and I have eaten a lot of BBQ over the years), but it's truly that good. This time we came with another couple and we couldn't wait to take them there. We ate here twice over a long weekend: we had dinner here on our first night and our last meal (lunch) on our drive back to Portland. For dinner almost all of us got BBQ. I got a brisket sandwich with a side order of potato salad that is to die for. This potato salad is so rich and creamy, it reminds me of the potato salad my Mom would make occasionally when I was a kid. Tiny bits of purple onion and sweet pickle, and tons of mayo....YUM. Just the way I like it. And my sandwich was delicious. BBQ brisket was nice and messy, with a little kick. And I love how they use thick pieces of white bread, instead of a bun. So good.....I'm hungry again right now. They also have INCREDIBLE burgers. They use ground sirloin, and the meat just has such a good flavor. I love a good burger and this place is in my top five fav places for burgers in the U.S. The waitresses are always so nice and helpful, and the place just feels like so many of the restaurants I went to as a kid in East Texas. Great food, everyone is really friendly, and just a homey, comfortable feeling. If you are in the Ashland area, and love BBQ, you have got to try this place. I promise, you will not be disappointed. This is one of my boyfriends favorite restaurants in Oregon, and believe me, he's picky. Our friends loved it, and we can't wait for our next trip down here. I'm actually really glad that Back Porch is 5 hours away. If it was less than an hour away, I'd be in serious trouble (as in having to double my work outs) because of the calories I'd be shoveling in. But a couple of times a year.....totally worth it!

Spent the weekend in Jacksonville and wanted BBQ. Thought this was a good option since we could walk and the reviews weren't too bad. 2 stars for the service mostly. Service was spotty but good. The food on the other hand was not good. We had fish tacos and the Texas french dip. The fish was smelly, the brisket was over cooked and not cut properly to allow for a tender slice. The meat was tough and all you could taste was the burnt edges.

The food, as always, was excellent. We had the roy rogers burger with baked beans and a corned beef sandwich with sweet potato fries. Burger was fall apart good and the sweet potato fries were the best i've had. Unfortunately, I have the same single complaint that i have every time I visit, poor service. Our waitress didnt know the special off hand and had to run to get her "cheat sheet". Then after our meals arrived, we never saw her again. Let me warn you, the jalapenos on the roy rogers are hot, ask for 2 waters before hand or youll be sorry when she doesnt come back to refill it. Even had to go in search of a waitress to get our bill. Hope they resolve this issue because the food alone wont keep customers coming back for long.

Excellent huge burgers and fries reminiscent of McDonald's. Great service too. Would definitely go again next time we are in the area.

Our first experience here was less than spectacular, but hey, every place can have an off day so when I was told that a family dinner was being held there, I was more than willing to give it another shot. There will never be a third time. Easily the WORST dining experience I have had in a long, long time. Because our party was large (14 people), I was trying to be understanding about the looooooong time it took to get our orders taken, water refilled, food delivered...but this was excessively long. The waitress was harried, disorganized and completely unattentive. If we needed anything, we had to flag her down because she certainly did not check with us. Our orders were not taken until we had been there for at least a half hour then it took her 10 minutes to take everyone's order. We were there an hour and fifteen minutes before we ever got our food and once it came, the meat was COLD. I am talking refrigerator-quality. Ever tried to eat a cold pork loin? Sick. My husband and I were not the only one who suffered poor food quality; my dad's sausages had grill marks, but were cold on the inside and not fully cooked. My son had a burger, but as the waitress neglected to ask him how he wanted his meat cooked, it was dry and over-cooked. My daughter said her fish tacos were fine, but she sat there 10 minutes waiting for her fries....we finally had to ask for them...again. Also, the menu stated that you received two sides and homemade bread with your dinner. Not one person at our table received bread and when I asked, I was told they were out and was offered a dinner roll. She didn't offer it to anyone else at the table even though it was supposed to be a component of the meal and when the roll came, it was smashed and cold. Unimpressed. My father had to leave early and could not find the waitress to ask for his check. When she finally came, he told her he had to leave right away and asked for his check. She gave it to him and never came back to take his money. Ten minutes later, he left asking me to get his change. When we settled our bill, I asked for his change and she forgot to bring it. Twice. All told, we were there 2 hours and 20 minutes with the bulk of the time waiting to have our orders taken, waters refreshed or get our food served. Oh, I also have to mention having to listen to a couple of the employees complaining in the kitchen about how much they hated their jobs and one guy yelling at the other one that he "couldn't wait to quit this damn job!" Awesome.

Oh em gee!!!!!!! I could taste every flavor/spice in my jalapeno brisket melt, seared ahi tacos were also delicious! The ranch dressing was a huge plus I could tell it was homemade and so good. This is how bbq American style restaurants need to be!!! Ambience was so cute and clean and we had a reservation she led us straight to our table all set up perfect spot! This was an amazing experience. I WILL BE BACK

I was in Cave Junction at the Oregon Caves National Monument with my family when we decided we wanted to eat in Jacksonville. I searched yelp for help and found Back Porch. We made a reservation on Saturday (they don't normally take them) because we had such a large party. I got the back porch sandwich, omg shut the front door, it was knock out delicious!! It was 3 different kinds of meat on home made bread (from La Baguette in Ashland) and it had such flavor! It had slight spice, saltiness, just everything you could want in a sandwich. My husband and brother i law shared the brisket and they both really liked it (I thought it was slightly dry). The kids got mac n cheese and it looked like boxed stuff. Nobody else really made mention of their food so I'm guessing it was either amazing, crappy or I was too wrapped up in devouring mine I didn't hear a word... which is quite possible. We got the bread pudding, the peanut butter cake thing and the triple chocolate brownie for dessert. I only tried the peanut butter cake thing and it was good but it tasted boxed. I could be wrong. The bread pudding was home made and the reviews from my party were out of this world... same with the brownie. Service was nothing spectacular... Not overly friendly but on the ball. Our server barely said hi, then asked for drinks. I had to leave real quick to run home to Central Point and placed mine and my children's order. My husband called me while I was on my way to my house saying my food got there first so I told him to heavily heavily salt it and send it back (that way I knew if they gave me the same order again), because I wanted my food with everyone's I just was placing my order so someone else didn't screw it up... he said the server seemed pissed and was rude about it. But when I got there she put a fresh plate in front of me and was super nice about it. In fact, after that she was the friendliest to me and kinda ignored everyone else, haha. Parking isn't too great, the spots are tight and there aren't many of them. Location is nice being on the edge of town. Decor was rustic and nice enough. Bathroom was clean but they had that actual towel that spins in a towel dispenser instead of a fan or paper towels and I really, really disliked that. I would recommend this place and will return. I would rate 4.5 stars but will round up because of the sandwich I had and the prompt service.

We yelped restaurants looking for burgers and barbecue. We hit the jackpot! Had the rodeo burger...and my gal had the back porch sandwich. She thought it was the best ever! I loved mine too! Great for large groups. Have 4 TVs with the NFL package on. Amber was an amazing server too!

My husband and I were in Ashland, OR the last week of April for the Shakespeare festival and we went to Jacksonville on a Wednesday morning to explore the town. We were looking for a place to eat lunch and didn't want Mexican or Italian food. We found this little barbecue place and decided to try it. I'm so glad we found this place! We bought the brisket and had potato salad and side salads too. SO YUMMY! The prices were very reasonable for the amount of food we received. We left feeling full and happy. We will definitely return next year when we go back to Ashland!

I didn't think there was really any good barbecue in So. Oregon but I was wrong! This combo plate was awesome! Had brisket, chicken and ribs and it was so delish! The ribs fell apart and were so tender, as well as amazingly tender brisket! I'll try the pulled pork next time as it looked great too. We'll definitely be back! Yum

My husband and I were so thrilled to find out there was a good place for bbq in Southern Oregon! I had the pulled pork sandwich, and he had the brisket sandwich. We shared potato salad, and baked beans on the side. The potato salad is traditional and delicious. And the baked beans had a kick (which we love) And the brisket was melt in your mouth delish

Visiting on business I ate here a couple times in a large group and on my own. I got to taste several main courses and sides. Excellent all around. The BBQ is on the dry side, not sauced a lot prior to plating. I prefer it that way when it's so perfectly smoked, moist and flavorful. I smoke an excellent BBQ but this guy's flavor is a step beyond. Service for our group party was excellent. Service on my own dawdled some. I was bumped behind "regulars" who showed up after me. Heck, I had the only cowboy hat in a cowboy bar but that didn't gain me anything. Not a big deal. It's fairly normal on the road. The food is kind of high and deserves it. The drinks are high and don't pour any better here than any where else. With the average service that costs them a star. Of course, Jacksonville, like Sisters, is a piece of FantasyLand in a relatively working class state. Prices fly here that wouldn't have much of a following in Klamath Falls. I doubt even the drinks are high for Jacksonville. At least there's no sales tax!

Half pound BLT was amazing! Added avocados, cheese and onions. The Mondo burger was huge. Almost had to step on it to eat it. Great staff and nice atmosphere. Definitely going here next time we are in Jacksonville.

Sports bar and grill, and what's nice is the restaurant area is well-insulated from the bar area so if it gets noisy for a game the sound is mostly contained. And the staff are awesome. We loved our server and the random employees we encountered on our visit. But the point of our visit was to try the barbeque. After reading the Yelp reviews we thought we'd found our spot, and sadly bypassed Cartwright's in Grant's Pass. So how was it? My husband liked his ribs, but he let me sample them, which he only does if they're okay. If they are good to excellent, I'm not getting a thing! It was also $18.95 for a dinner of four ribs, bread, and two sides; definitely on the pricy side, as I'd expect to pay $18.95 for a rack. He neither raved or ranted about his sides (salad and beans). I had the brisket sandwich, and the brisket was also only okay. It had some smoke, but not the ring of color I love and appreciate in a good smoked brisket. And while the sandwich came with onions and pickle slices, I would really have loved some bolder pickle slices and a thick slice of yellow onion instead of the thin shaves of red onion on the plate. My potato salad, however, was super-yummy. I missed the mustard in the dressing, but still, very, very good. Texas-style (except for the lack of mustard). The iced tea...sigh. The iced tea was some cinnamon-zinger concoction. Perfectly fine as a cold tea, but when you're sitting down to a plate of barbeque, it is not the iced tea you want. Lipton's, please! I'd definitely try the burgers next time. And we loved the decor.

Nothing special. I was excited to give this place a try due to the reviews, however I was disappointed. Called to order pulled pork sandwich to go 1 min before they closed & the man told me they were closed. I said according to my phone you aren't closed and all I want is a pulled pork sandwich. He should have wanted the easy $ for the business. It's not like I was walking into the restaurant to eat at 8:59, I wanted food to go! It shouldn't be so difficult to put already made pork on some bread. I feel like because I have an out of state phone number they didn't give 2 shits about my order. Although, I am a local and do not plan on trying this restaurant again. Obviously the employees don't care about making the business money or customers happy. They use large slices of sand which bread and they didn't even toast it. A toasted bun would have been much better. The sandwich was completely soggy and gross and ultimately was dog food. The steak fries were more like 1/4 of a potato and weren't seasoned, way to big and flavorless. When I got there to pick up my order I wasn't greeted by anyone and I had to wait several minutes to ask the bartender for a pen to sign my credit card slip so I could leave. This business needs to learn that your last customer of the evening should be treated just as good as your first customer. Unfortunately, this place left a sour taste in my mouth. I'll have to find somewhere else with decent bbq and employees who care.

Our server was really nice and the food came quickly. For the price though the food was low quality and generic. The huge portions are ridiculous and wasteful. We walked over from our hotel but just didn't feel great on the way back. Not only was the food really heavy and greasy but the bill gave us indigestion.

I love this place. Whenever we are in Jacksonville we have to stop in and have some chili con queso. The plates are always heaping with plenty of great food. I haven't had anything yet I don't like. They have a full seperate bar, which is nice too. Locally owned and operated and you can tell there is lots of love put into the good. They are also great around Britt time for to go dinners at the show.

This was our first time here. I loved the atmosphere, but first off, there were a couple ants here and there ON our table. My husband ordered a burger, which was very good, but I ordered the Cajun veggie pasta, which was less than delicious. It was too saucy, and there were only about 6 mushrooms, and it was barely "Cajun" at all. I got the side salad with my meal, as did both of our young children, and they put pepperincinis in the salad! Those are very spicy peppers, and the menu didn't say anything about that, especially in kids' salads! Also, the service was VERY slow and spotty, I had to ask for our bill, and then sat for 10 minutes just to have it picked up. Suffice to say, I only give it 3 stars.

First, a comment on the one star rating recntly given this establishment. I'm familiar withnthe circumstances and the patron got just what he asked for; it's true that some people never grow up. That said, I've been dining at the Back Porch since it opened in Jacksonville and before that In Ashland. I also travel exrensively throughout the soutwest and have enjoyed all sorts of BBQ on my trips. In my experience, the Back Porch rates the highest in both courteous service and excellent, well prepared food. Try it, you'll like it

After you have cut and chopped the winter supply of firewood and find you're too tired to cook, mosey on to Back Porch Bar and Grill for a huge meal of BBQ. We returned for an excellent lunch: I had the chili burger with too much meat and their outstanding Thai coconut milk chicken soup (just $9.35) while the wife had the BBQ chicken sandwich, 1/2 of which she took home to eat later.

Sadly we were fans of this establishment have been there quite a few times and always treated kindly until last night when we orderd take out. The man who took the order was very abrasive and hurried my husband through his order. When he went to pick it up he was basically ignored at the bar where he had been standing for a while. When a man who worked there noticed him he said sorry i didnt see you there my husband told him he was there to pick up and would have a beer while he waited and was told take out was the last thing on the mans mind and he walked away. my husband sat there for a while when finally they brought out the food it sat on the bar so he walked around trying to find someone to pay. I wish he had just left the food was cold and incomplete. I am so disappointed in the treatment he received we wont be spending anymore money here or taking our visiting family here again unless this guy is addressed for his attitude with paying customers. Here's a hint you are not doing us any favors guy by "serving" us.

Delicious BBQ, definitely the best I've had in Rogue Valley. I have been to Roscoe's and Tim's and while Roscoe's is superior to Tim's, Back Porch is better than either. This place is cowboyed out in western decor- it's cute. It was completely empty when my coworkers and I went for lunch the other day which basically meant we got some great service and attention! We split the Texas black bean egg rolls and we all loved them. Next, I finally decided to take the waitress' recommendation and go with the beef brisket sandwich with a side of potato salad. This place loses a star for having too many tasty-lookin' options! ha ha ha! The sandwich was wonderful. The brisket was very tender, the bread was lightly toasted and sauced. We were given more sauce to make it to our liking. Sandwiches are also served with sliced pickles which were excellent on the sandwich-- that sauce really stands out when eaten with the pickles, I must say. The potato salad was very creamy and had lots of hard-boiled eggs in it, which is fine by me. I very much enjoyed it; HOWEVER, I realized my mistake in ordering once I tried my coworker's baked beans-- holy moly, this is what to order here for your side! Seriously spiced and seriously good. Oh, and for burger folks: this place has huge burgers that looked amazing. My coworker devoured his and said it was fantastic! I can't wait to come back here and try the dinner platters that come with 2 sides! So much more to explore on that menu if you are a carnivore. For vegetarians, there is not much to eat other than a few appetizers so probably best not to even bother.

Great food, nice atmosphere, and really friendly staff. I had the beef brisket sandwich with fries. On a whim I added a side salad. Wow! Do yourself a favor and DO NOT skip the side salad. How one little item can be so perfect and yummy is a mystery...but Back Porch makes it a reality. I took a slice of banana coconut cream pie to go. So delicious. Everything here is clearly made fresh in-house. Don't miss the Back Porch!

Best BBQ in Oregon. May well be the best BBQ I've had anywhere. I freaking love this place. I get to Ashland (from Portland) about 1x a year and I always stop in when I'm anywhere near. Twice, if scheduling allows. Everything I've had here is excellent. My favorites are the brisket and the pork ribs. Perfectly done. The ribs have this excellent finish on them. Sides are also top notch here. Potato salad is homemade and perfect. And I absolutely love their baked beans. This will tell you how good the beans are. I have a friend that does not eat pork or beef. These beans have pork in them, but she eats them anyway. This is the only exception to the rule I've seen with this friend of mine. On my most recent trip, my girlfriend and I went twice, Friday AND Saturday. I'm really glad we did- I went exploring on the menu. I had never had a burger here before, but they always looked excellent on other peoples plates. I asked the waitress if they were good. She assured me they were. They have many select from, but I got a (relatively) plain one. Just a bacon cheese (but double the bacon). This burger went straight to my top ten list. (I can't delineate any greater than that. It'd be like picking favorite children, I imagine) This burger was delicious and succulent. They grind their own mix of beef and it is perfectly seasoned. Servers have always been very friendly and welcoming. I really REALLY wish Back Porch BBQ was in my hometown of Portland. But at least I know when I get down to the Ashland/Jacksonville area, I'll be eating like a king.

Very dirty sticky tables...not my first time in. I love the food but the service has just sucked every time. Waitress left us for 7 min without greeting us, no drinks, etc...and when she came she didn't say anything just pulled out her book and starred at us until we initiated an communication like we had a problem? What the hell??? Felt very unwelcome until she wanted a tip while dropping off the check she turned into a very different person and chatted us up like we were best friends? She wasn't a new waitress either same people working every time. Sad cuz food is actually good a little over priced for the portion but tasty. I don't think we will dine in again only Togo orders until I see a different staff out front and clean tables

Wonderful food and friendly staff. I had the smoked chicken sandwich with onion rings. My husband had the bacon burger. We were given a bowl of BBQ sauce on the side to use as dip. Everything was wonderful. They grind there own hamburger meat and the onion rings were home made. Amazingly yummy wonderfully filling food.

We travel to Jacksonville to visit family and try to make it a point to eat here each visit. The food is always fresh and excellently prepared. Have tried numerous things on the menu and never disappointed. Try to save a little room and share a dessert. Worth the calories!!

I have eaten at the back porch and make it a point to stop here every time we go through Jacksonville. Whether it's the gene autrey burger or my favorite back porch, the food is great. The oak flavoring is strong and powerful and I enjoy the consistency. Staff is fun and it's a very down to earth atmosphere.

Nina and I started eating at the Back Porch BBQ when it was by the creek in Ashland. We used to eat dinner there at least once whenever we were in town. Our favorite dish was the Pollo Loco, half a chicken marinated in lime juice and then grilled. I don't think I ever tried anything else once I tasted it and I can't remember what else I ate there before I discovered it. Twelve or fifteen years ago it closed and moved out to Jacksonville. Five or six years ago we had dinner there and both remembered being a little disappointed w/ our chicken, which lacked the tang of lime. Last night we decided to give it another try. We made reservations for 5:30 and, more important, we reserved two Pollo Locos. The woman Nina spoke to said that was important, because they often sell out of them early. Pollo Locos are served only on Friday and Saturday nights. As Lexie notes, the decor is totally cowboy, w/ lots of old implements and a cardboard cutout of John Wayne standing guard. We were seated in the front room where John Wayne could watch over us. There's a larger back room and maybe an outdoor eating area. We ordered our chicken, which is now called "grilled lime chicken" and comes w/ a choice of soup or salad and two sides. We both chose salads, Nina's w/ a honey mustard dressing and mine w/ a red onion vinaigrette. We both chose sauteed vegetables and Nina chose the baked beans, while I chose potato salad. All that food was $19 each! Nina had a Pilsner Urquell and I had a glass of RoxyAnn Pinot Gris. Beer and wine prices were very reasonable, $3 for the beer and $5.50 for the wine. The salads were crisp and fresh and the dressings were delicious. The chicken was the star of the show, plump, hell, HUGE, moist, tender and tangy. We agreed we should have shared because we both ate about half our chicken or less and the leftovers are sitting in the refrigerator here. The vegetables were a mixture of yellow squash, onions and carrots and were tasty, if more than a bit past al dente. I liked the potato salad, which was homemade and flavorful, if a little heavy on the mayo and Nina liked the beans, which she described as sweet and spicy. We were both so pleased w/ our meal and to find the chicken just as good as we remember from the old days. Service was warm and friendly and all in all we felt very well taken care of. They also cater, an all you can eat buffet of a variety of BBQed meats and sides for $25/person, kids under 8 free. Nina and I agreed that if we lived around here we would use them for the occasional big gathering.

Love this place! Food is always tasty and accurate, waitresses are always nice, prices are on point, and the atmosphere is relaxed. We will continue to come back whenever we have a craving for good bbq.

Great food at a good price! They accommodated our large group with little notice. I had the fish tacos and was pleasantly surprised by how good they were. My husband had the BBQ combo plate with chicken ribs and brisket. It was all delicious and he brought home leftovers! The potato salad was good too. The kids were also happy. Next time we will have to try some of the desserts!

First time here, I love the ambiance very clean and old west memorabilia garnishing the walls. Our server she was friendly and attentive. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich as well as the meat combo plate. The pulled pork sandwich was great pork on incredible fresh thick bread, defiantly homemade. The pork was lightly sweet and tender. Not a ton of pork on the sandwich though. The sides we had were the coleslaw which was very average. We also had sweet potato fries, wow they were awesome. They were light crispy and very fresh tasting. One of the best I've had. Secondly we had the meat combo choice of 3 meats. I ordered the pepper crusted smoke pork loin, the St. Luis ribs and the beef brisket. The pork loin was the top choice, nicely smoked and great flavor. Secondly the ribs were meaty and yummy, a little fatty though. The final choice was the beef brisket great flavor and quality.. This plate was very generous portions of meat.. I loved it, to go box please... Overall I was very pleased with my experience and will be back, great job guys...

One of our favorite lunch & dinner spots. The service is always great, and we've never had a mediocre meal at the Back Porch. I especially like the red hots with BBQ beans and Cole slaw for lunch. Add a Arnold Palmer and you've got a great meal. We visit the Back Porch for both lunch and dinner about every other month.

The Back Porch is awesome. I eat there often and take friends and family to eat there. The Nuevo Laredo is my favorite, perfect brisket with guacamole on homemade bread. Friendly down to earth staff make this a great place to have lunch, dinner or go watch the game.

We have been going to Back Porch for about 5 years now. We live in Grants Pass but it is worth the trip to Jacksonville to eat here. We always get great service from Sue (the former owner, her daughter runs things now). When her daughter took over they remodeled a bit and now it doesn't have as much memorabilia as it use to. The food however is as good as always. We love the brisket sandwiches. I always get the French Dip and add bbq sauce as I want. The fresh bread REALLY makes it a great sandwich. We like all of the sides that we have tried. This is just a great place to eat and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants wonderful BBQ.

Dang good service, dang good food! Fried green beans to die for! Pulled Pork Sandwich, just killer!! Great Ribs, great wraps! Everything you order here will probably satisfy and portions big enough to share. Great for large families or small.

Excellent and consistently good. Casual, decent drinks. Cowboy beans, brisket and potato salad are super tasty. Real food, good service always. Love it. We get take out brisket and beans sometimes for family/parties for large gatherings: good pricing when you don't want to do alot of work. We just add in our own salad, bread and ice cream and have a great meal. Seriously great burger from their own fresh ground. Never had dessert, always too full.

This is quickly becoming our go to place. They were out of prawns, so that forced me to order the crispy seared ahi tacos; yum! The whiskey pork shank another Yum! Service always a pleasure. If only they went more natural-hormone free on their meats ... then Divine. Hope they are reading!

Good food. Casual dining. The BBQ is awesome. The steaks are ok, I wasn't overly impressed with it. The taste was just ok. Not sure if it is a seasoning thing or type of preparation. I would definitely go and try again though. The rest of the food was really good.

Thankfully the only BBQ restaurant in historic Jacksonville is a great one. This 22 year old BBQ joint slow cooks their meat for 12 hours plus over Oregon oak giving it a rich and local wood smoke flavor. I recommend going with one of the BBQ sandwiches made on homemade sourdough bread and served with pickle and onion slices and choice of potato salad, coleslaw, Texas chili, french fries, onion rings, baked beans, homemade soup, garden salad or Jo Jo's. I went with the BBQ Beef brisket sandwich and onion rings. Big portions of delicious smokey brisket cooked to perfection coupled with super fast and friendly service. I got stuffed on 5 star BBQ for 8 bucks.

Thanks to Yelp, and all the previous reviewers, I had, what I can easily say, was some of the best BBQ that I've ever had! If you're in, or around Jacksonville OR, DO NOT MISS Back Porch BBQ, and don't leave without trying the brisket with beans and JoJo's! Unbelievable flavor and perfectly done! Wish I were there now! Friendly staff/owners and patrons as well. A can't miss if you're a fan of BBQ, friendly people and a great, small, historic town. backporchbbqinc.com

Aha! Now I know where my girlfriend got the John Wayne tapestry that she gave me last Christmas!! She used to bar tend at the Back Porch a couple of years ago. I've been there for lunch a couple of times; the sandwiches are pretty tasty and quite substantial, and the service is friendly. It's easy to find on the east end of town (right on the main hwy in from Medford)and not too expensive. They have the bar, so you can get whatever, but the lemonaid is excellent, too. I felt much more comfortable and at-home here than at some of the ritzier places uptown.

Visit to the homeland brings with it the inevitable trip to Backporch. Absolutely outstanding- I usually get a burger, and I have half to take home for tomorrow. also this leaves me room to sample everyone else's. The brisket simmered all day, the BBQ sauce so great, it's even good as a salad dressing if you decide to put your meat on some lettuce like my mom does. They have recently gone through owner changes, but still friendly service.

THE best BBQ, dessert and service you'll ever find. The brisket is SUPER outstanding and the family who owns & cooks are good human beings. The feisty beans, cole slaw, dessert, all homemade.

This place is pretty awesome. The decor is pretty neat and is western style and themed. It wasn't that busy when my buddy and I went there. We were there on business and this place was recommended to us...subsequently I spend the rest of the day waiting to grub down. The portion size is very fair. The BBQ was excellent. We got there later in the night as well so i'd be interested to go there for lunch. Two Budwiesers were also a perfect complement. I thought the price would be cheaper or that there'd be a cheap option on the menu. But it's still a place to grab some BBQ and perfect for a guys night out or for when you need some soul food. And that's the truth pilgrim.

This is solid BBQ! Good smoke flavor in the meat (not just in the sauce). I was not expecting to have good BBQ in Jacksonville, Oregon of all places. I have had good Q from all over, and this is rock solid. If or when I visit Jacksonville again, I will defiantly make another stop. The service was fantastic, very warm and homey! Our waitress was top notch and I think the mother of the family run operation. She said the picture of the guy flipping the ribs on yelp was her son (she had never heard of yelp and was shocked to see me holding up a picture of her son on my phone :-). The portions were generous and the food was tasty! They smoke there meat well and they make most everything themselves (bread, sauce, fantastic blue cheese dressing with big hunks in it, desserts,, soup...)! The decor was exactly how a BBQ place should be, most places try so hard to try to recreate what they have naturally. You can tell that this place just evolved organically over years and years. This is your grandpa's BBQ joint, not Bobby Flay's or Buster's!!! It is so good when it is done right!!! Is it the best BBQ you will ever have, heck no. Doing it right takes hours! I am shocked that people are coming down for them for not pulling it fresh off the grill! That is only done at competitions and friends houses folks!!! This stuff takes 5-12+ hours to smoke!!!!!!! Of course it is going to be made ahead of time! If it were made to order, it would just be grilling, and not real Texas BBQ. If you have a problem with that, just get some baby back ribs at Chili's or TGIFridays!!! If you want the real deal (yes smoked ahead of time) eat here. If you have ever really taken the hours, and 2-3 day process to make GOOD Q, just pull out your Weber and grill a good steak. Good BBQ takes time, and a lot of it! By the way, I don't know these people, but am just defending the good name of proper BBQ because I put my own blood and sweat into it as a hobby!

This place serves what for me (who grew up in Texas) is the best Texas-style bbq on the west coast. Try the sampler plate, and split it with your companion, unless you are a champ chowdowner. And be sure to save room for a piece of home-made pie. The beer selection -- as you would expect in almost any restaurant in Oregon -- is quite good. The ambience of the place is very much in sync with the food -- cowboy memorabilia, pictures of John wayne, etc.

The food had ok flavor but was not what was described in the menu. Our waitress NEVER checked on us and even commented on our tip to our face when we were walking out. Not good service.

I really wanted to love this place. It's exactly the kind of Place you hope to find in a small town in Southern Oregon. The decor is authentic Texas saloon with cowboy boots, saddles, and old time cowboy photos all over the walls. My favorite touch was the cowboy jeans that are strung up through their belt loops over the windows to make cowboy curtains. I was there on a Wednesday night just before closing and had the place to myself. The server was great and recommended several things. I glanced at the back of the menu for drinks and was suprised to find a wine list that included some local wines as well as a few if my favorites from the Bay (Rosenblum). By the time she returned with my wine, a bell went off and my order was ready. That's a good and a bad thing all at the same time. Good because I was starving but bad because nothing should be quick about BBQ. Here's the 411: - the Brisket was not as tender as it should be for slow cooked BBQ. I'm pretty sure it was cut earlier and reheated for me. A bit disappointing. - the BBQ sauce was good but not great. Not quite thick enough for me but good flavor. - the baked beans were FANTASTIC! They were "sweet and spicy" and Might be the best I've ever had. - the potato salad was good but had just a touch too much mayo. - a thick slice of bread came on the side but it wasn't toasted. Do I have the wrong idea of what Texas Toast is? Is it more authentic when fresh? I need to look that up. Portions were great and I was amazed that the total was under $24 with entre and wine. Good enough for a second visit but Im still searching for a new favorite BBQ joint.

The service was quick (recognizing that very few customers were in that day), friendly and the food terrific! I had the pulled pork sandwich on homemade bread. The crust on the bread was as soft as the inside of the loaf itself and the meat was soft and tender and there was no fat whatsoever! The cole slaw was great... I think their secret is a bit of pineapple juice in it. My wife had bbq chicken and it melted in her mouth. Great experience, left us wondering why we don't drive 20 miles out there to eat more often?!

I was shocked to see such high marks for this place. Don't get me wrong. The menu is perfect in that it has everything you'd expect with good old Texas BBQ. The portion size will knock you out as well. For these two points, the joint earns a solid 3.5 stars (but we can't post half stars just yet as Yelp has yet to enable that). Here's the rub. Most of the meat dishes are prepared in mass batches in advance and heated via microwave or flash-heated on a return trip to an oven - at least, that is what what was obviously done on the night I was there. The flavors and meat tenderness could stand to be improved and it just didn't have the polish of fresh BBQ. It has a tourist flair within the "western movie" decorations style - over the top, actually. My sense is that it does appeal to tourists and those that haven't had the opportunity to taste BBQ at 50 or more establishments to develop a true sense of what IS and what is NOT outstanding BBQ. I'll have to come here once in the summer when they fire-up the outside grill. Maybe my visit in October was timed when they are more inclined to have batches of "stock" in prep stage and not as fresh as what rolls out of the outside grill. Who knows.... But until such time, I'm sad to say this place - while good - is totally over-rated by my fellow Yelp'rs.

We just ate an incredibly delicious BBQ meal here. Discovered it as we drove out of Jacksonville. My boyfriend who is a deluxe bbq'er himself was also very pleased. They even make their own sourdough bread. Excellent service as well. Generous sides too. I'd come back here definitely- best meal we had on our Ashland/Jacksonville trip by far.

Driving through the area, we stopped by to try this place and it was quite good. When you walk into the place, the BBQ smell hits you and gets your anticipation going. The place is decorated in a cowboy-movie theme, kind of kitschy but fun. Had the beef brisket with Texas chili, and the hot wings were pretty good too.

when you're ready to eat way more than you should and love every minute of it. it's classic southern food with Texas flair. the spicy sausage, beans, and coleslaw cinched the deal for me. in full disclosure, my wife (who is no fan of unrestrained portions and meat-heavy dishes) was not so pleased as I. consequently, we don't visit often :(

We've been eating at Back Porch since its original Ashland location, where it was basically a giant back porch. It was great then, but the Jacksonville incarnation far surpasses it. It is impossible to leave this restaurant still hungry, and if you order a "Texas size Longhorn combo", you'll have enough leftovers for another meal. Two or three more meals if you're tiny like my honey. The pork ribs, pork loin, chicken and texas red-hots are all fantastic, as are the steaks. The cole slaw is the best I've had on the west coast. There's a full bar, but I often just drink the great home-made lemonade. I think their desserts may be a weak spot, but I'm always too full for that to matter. Their peach salsa was the best I've ever tasted, and we used to buy it by the pint when it was available. The only thing I'm not fond of is the cowboy decor, and musically I think they only own three CD's, but this is just nit-picking and can be ignored. This place is tops!

Absolutely Amazing BBQ Stop In Jacksonsville! SITREP I was blitzing down the interstate, but looked for any opportunity to connect with my friends Alexis & Ma and they suggested stopping in at the Back Porch Bar & Grill. Man, am I glad they ever did! THE SETUP The decor is absolutely amazing in this establishment - it just exudes a rustic, Western environment with a lot of legit old-Western antiques, cowboy & ranch implements, and some of the most fun decor & art. THE DINING ROOM The dining rooms are large, with vintage old-style wooden chairs & tables, the kind you would expect to see from an episode of "Little House on the Prairie" or "Gunsmoke". Plenty of room to accommodate large parties. THE BAR The bar is fun, and this is actually where we had our dinner. Very casual, with TV showing some sports, and Keno gambling machines! (Ma made good use of these!) ;) LE MENU The food is what will keep you coming and coming back to this restaurant. Considering what you get in their combinations, I find it far less expensive (for what my Sacramento peeps will understand) than the dishes and combinations you will find at such illustrious local places as Dickeys and Tank House. The menu of delights included on this occasion: * BBQ Pulled Pork * BBQ Beef Brisket * Uber-sized dinner rolls * Potato Salad * French Fries * Cole Slaw * Monterey-style Clam Chowder * Seasoned Grilled Vegetables atop a Garden Salad * And the pièce de résistance, the bread pudding with a thick cold cream! The BBQ meats were tender, cooked & spiced to perfection. The sides were fresh, steaming & filling, prepared to order - cole slaw with a great spicy tang and the fries with a healthy garnishing of garlic. The salad were crisp and cool underneath but with delicious grilled veggies on top. My clam chowder was thick and yummy. When I come back I really want to try the tri-tip, the mashed potatoes and the onion rings! THE LOWDOWN A great BBQ stop in Jacksonville!

Fricking awesome!!!!! I heard they had great burgers so when my Dad was in town we ventured over to Jacksonville. Walking in the door, it smells heavenly. We were both starving and drooling. Our waitress was a total hoot, friendly but sassy. We loved her. Ordered the queso dip and good lord, it comes with huge chunks of brisket in it! Had I known how large our portions would be, I would have passed on the app. We both got burgers-- my Dad got the Doc Holliday with potato salad. I got the Roy Rogers with Jo Jo's. Omg, so unbelievably good. Can't wait to go back!!!!

It's been years since my last visit..BBQ and burgers as good as I remember. 2 for dinner.. We started with the southwest egg rolls..delicious One had the Gene Autry burger...the sandwich was about the size of his head and burger juicy and delicious. I had the brisket (as others have suggested get the sauce on the side). I got a large portion of meat and it was tender, juicy, and great flavor...don't spoil it by adding the sauce. For my sides, the potato salad-very good, and the beans...they had a kick and was flavored great! Service was great, pleasant atmosphere. Only bummers... Limited parking. They'd been busy that day and were out of sweet potato fries and all the good desserts....
