I've heard a lot about this quaint little spot but my first impression today was not good. Upon arrival, the gal at the counter made it pretty clear that she likes to close everything down by 2:15 (they close at 2 and we arrived at 1:20 and she had another job to get to). Ok- I'm in the service industry too but I never make it that obvious that I want people to leave quickly. Our food arrived pretty quick - remembering the deadline to get out by 2:15 no doubt. I order a small chicken salad and my husband a large. The only difference between the two sizes were that his had more salad greens. But both had a very small ice cream scoop size of chicken salad in the middle of salad greens. It was good but very small for the price. When our orders arrived to our table, the same time-aware staff person said we could pick up our cutlery at the front counter. Wow- good thing we left her a 20% tip - only to be told to get our own cutlery, and - oh, by the way, you need to bus your own table after you are finished! I realize that it was our first time there and we didn't "know the ropes" but her lack of professionalism was tacky and left a bad taste in our mouth. The food was ok but I'm not sure I would go there again

This was a treat for my. Mom and I on our drive in the country, a few weeks ago. We each tried their lunch special, half of a turkey/pesto sandwich, along side of a cup of their tomato bisque soup. Yummy! We also shared one of their apricot/white chocolate cookies. Very nice and friendly country cafe. Is one of the stops on the Valley and Vineyard Scenic Tour.

The South Store Café rests among the apple orchards and berry fields of Scholls. The address is Hillsboro but the area is actually called Scholls. In the old days there were two general stores in the Scholls area: one to the North and one to the South. The Northern store is still a working store (now called Petrich's) and The South Store Café is now housed in the Southern store. Hence the name, "The South Store Café." The building itself is over 100 years old. The interior is a delightful mix of antique chairs, tables, pastry counters, and signed art work for sale. My server tells me that she enjoys working at The South Store Café so much that she drives all the way from Dayton to work here. I can see why. Among the offerings at The South Store Café are espresso coffees, pastries, sandwiches, soups, quiches, and breakfasts. On our visit we sampled an egg salad sandwich, a meatball sub, beef barley soup, and hot apple cider. Everything we had was outstanding. The beef barley soup tasted just like your Mom's best homemade soup. Delicious broth and a generous helping of beef and barley. The meatball sub was the best I'd had since I left New Jersey. Tasty meatballs, delicious marinara, and quality provolone cheese all served in an artisan baguette. The hot cider was perfectly seasoned and oh so delicious. The staff at The South Store Café is delightful. Talkative, friendly and helpful. Please note that The South Store Café is not open in the evening. This is strictly a breakfast and lunch type of operation. Whatever, The South Store Café is a wonderful find out among the beautiful farmland of Scholls.

For what this place is and where it's located, it's pretty good. It's a far cry from the amazing café food you can get in Portland, but it's a solid place with good food and good drinks. Food: I ordered the Café Club. The bread was a bit on the dry side, but the turkey, vinaigrette, bacon, and avocado were all really flavorful. Drink: I don't know what roast they blend, but it was fairly weak. I know white mochas are generally sweet, so I ordered one with half the syrup and it was still very sweet. The "barista" at least attempted some latte art, which I appreciated. Service: the servers were very friendly and helpful. I didn't feel rushed making my order and they brought my food out to my table and also bussed it when I was done. Price: Reasonable prices overall. 4.95 for a large half sandwich with a side of chips and around 3.50 for a medium white mocha. Overall: While the coffee was their weakest point, besides it being too sweet, it was decently made and not terrible tasting. I understand that it is not strictly a coffee shop so I don't expect them to have master baristas. The food was what I'd expect from a small town cafe. It's a nice little place, but I probably won't drive out of my way to go again when Portland is just as close.

This place absolutely rocks. Warming during the winter and friendly solace during the summer days. Great coffee, amazingly creative pastry and baked goods. Be ready to talk with people who are happy to see your family and to share in life. From the staff to the patrons--people are just so happy to be here. This is a bit of utopia. A piece of country life as its meant to be lived. With very well thought out menu items that are straight forward and tasty.

The cutest little cafe. Staff was very nice and helpful. We had the breakfast sandwich: one with avocado and tomato and one with bacon. Super amazing. Plus I love that they have gluten free options. Their gluten free bread was good and their gluten free apple scone was delicious. To drink I tried their soy mocha which was perfect. Atmosphere is very welcoming and there's tons of seating with dining tables and a few comfy chairs. I'd totally come here to study or read if I wasn't just passing through.

It's been awhile since we've been here and we noticed some changes. On the plus side, there's more parking with the driveway looping around the back. This was greatly needed and is much appreciated. The garden sandwich is still just as good as ever with yams, cucumbers, roasted red peppers, tomatoes and cream cheese-- so flavorful! The downside is there was considerably less baked goods. We were there just before noon and eyed some big chocolate chip cookies. The two customers in line before us bought what was left of the chocolate chip so that left maybe a dozen total of peanut butter and snickerdoodle... and the lunch crowd was just coming in. We asked about the chocolate chip but they didn't have any more and were not baking any. Also disappointed to see they didn't have any seasonal favorites yet like the cobbler. It's strawberry season now and the hoods are readily available. So if you're going, don't count on dessert.

Love love love this cute little place! So rustic and country plus the customer service is impeccable! It's 20 minutes away from me and it's still so worth the drive. Plus it's gorgeous out there!

Hands down our favorite breakfast spot in the area. We come here every weekend as a family to enjoy the masterfully crafted pastries, quiches, stratas, tarts, cookies, and espresso. There is literally not a single bad item on the menu - whatever you get will be your favorite and you are guaranteed to enjoy it more than you've enjoyed anything in a long time! This cafe is not to be missed.

We went here once before on a weekend and it was so crowded Since we have the day off we decided to try it on a Wednesday morning Such a nice comfortable relaxing little neighborhood place Homemade granola was fantastic Really wonderfully made and very tasty Also had a scone with raspberry jam that was delicious Here is what keeps us from giving it five stars ...they they limit coffee to one refill or else you have to pay again For us not being able to sit and leisurely have coffee with breakfast just doesn't seem right. Would rather they charge more if they need to so that you can have as much coffee as you like when you're buying a meal. This is a great little place though and has a really nice vibe.

Curious to see what lay inside this lovely old country building, I stopped for lunch on my way home from morning's work in Hillsboro. Great comfy atmosphere. Staff know many of the customers, who appear to be regulars, They take time to chat with many. My order of half sandwich, BLT, with cup of chicken artichoke soup, was yummy! I would love to get the recipe for that soup!!! The sandwich was good sized, really three quarters. My tea came in a pot. I can' t think of a single negative thing to say about this place. Not one. Happy I stopped! I will be bringing visitors to my home here for late breakfast or lunch in the future!

Shhhhhhh! Oh my, I absolutely HATE reviewing this place - it's my secret hideaway and I don't want anyone to know, But, WTF, Iseems like the word has been spreading based on the ever growing line on Sat/Sun morning. I love the women who run this place - too cool for school as they bring out baking sheets (just like momma) of freshly made pastries to cool on their big antique counter (droool) - scones, quiches, cookies, muffins and such - all lovely and FRESH! But, I come for 3 things besides the atmosphere is absolutely perfect situated near the town of Scholls - in a 2 story house converted to a downstairs breakfast/lunch eatery with a fireplace, couches & mismatched chairs and peeling paint. To begin: They make some damn good COFFEE (that's 1 of the things). Things 2 & 3 (in no particular order) are: #2) SOUPS - oooooh yeah...homemade, unusual, not your run of the mill crap like chicken noodle or broc cheese - these are kill for soups and they run out alot!! #3) The best & last thing is the FRENCH BREAKFAST SANDWICH -if you haven't had a 'croque monsieur' then you don't have any idea how spectacular this sandwich is - I DREAM ABOUT YOU YUMMY FRENCH 'WICH - dream of your lovely bechamel sauce, the tasty ham from Carlton Farms (I asked) and the perfectly cooked egg, quality bread, side of cute little fruit and a refill on your cup of joe! MOI: I come from Alaska and believe it or not, these are the kind of places that I took my first step towards a lifelong addiction to java. This kind of feeling is still alive South Store - good people, good prices, small ass menu (done right) and a gorgeous drive. Keep this on the down low!!

I just loved this place. Perfect setting, tasty sandwiches - I had the veggie sandwich and the special ingredient was a surprise, yams (as well as avocado, cream cheese spread, roasted red peppers on a lovely Grand Central Baking bread)...it was so garden fresh I bet all the ingredients were from local garden, maybe the one across the road? They also offered wonderful in-house made baked goods, what looked to be a beating red, local fresh strawberry tart and a chocolate chip cookie to live for! Totally wallet friendly, and rightly a touch rustic. Anyhow, this is a quaint, just perfect find in the middle of one of Oregon's wine country outposts! A winning combination.

Amazing place. Fresh food, great atmosphere, friendly staff. The whole family enjoyed it! Such a random spot though and unfortunately we never go that way, otherwise we'd eat there all the time!

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Best Meatloaf sandwich in the universe. To die for pastries, and soups, great coffee and even the Salads are above average. Everything cooked daily and from scratch.

Homemade Biscuits and Gravy. Go on Sundays and order this. Sooo good. Really good, tasty gravy, filled with sausage and flaky, soft biscuits with a crispy top. I did have to add some Tabasco though, that's just me though. Better than Pine State b&g? I am going to say, yes. Also, homemade berry cobbler. Tasted very fresh, just like moms. Only problem is that it was too fresh and natural, missed all that sugar that other places add to overcompensate for their inferior, stale berries. Sorry, I have been pre-conditioned from years of living in the suburbs but have really been trying.

I live close to the South Store cafe and stop by at times for lunch and get take out. I recently ordered the muffaletta sandwich and the broccoli soup and loved them both. I would also highly recommend the snickerdoodle cookie, it's a real snickerdoodle not a cinnamon coated sugar cookie in disguise. I have never had a bad lunch here and in the winter I always enjoy waiting for my order in front of the wood burning stove.

The South Store Café is delightful experience far from the hectic suburbs. This café opened several years ago and offered a morning coffee break and a high quality lunch for the locals and the commuters. The building is over 100 years old and while a bit off plumb it has survived as a landmark. The interior is furnished in period style furniture with a pellet stove for ambiance in the winter. The restaurant is busy for a weekend lunch but at other times the café is very laid back and you will often find people utilizing the free wireless Internet. I typically stop for my morning mocha and occasionally have breakfast. They specialize in their pastries but they also have quiche and breakfast burritos. Lunch is the target meal for this restaurant and they always have a special sandwich and soup each day. The breads are made each day for the restaurant and there are always several delicious choices for dessert. I really like the chicken salad sandwich although I do not pass up the meat loaf sandwich when it is on special. And, the BLT is made with the delicious Carlton Farms bacon and has to be tried now and then. While you are in the area, you can visit Smith Berry Farm right across the highway for fresh organic fruits and vegetables. And, you can buy some truly free range chicken eggs.

Good coffee, food was okay at best. My husband ordered the Sunday special of biscuits and gravy. The gravy was thin and watered down. My breakfast was better. However, our coffee came about halfway through our breakfast. The real kicker was that they picked up our silverware and put it back the drawer without washing.

Stopped by the cafe again today, this time for a sandwich. The sandwich was okay but I would highly suggest asking them to be light-handed with the mayo or whatever other spread they use. I had the sandwich of the day and half the sandwich was mayo and avocado spread. Way too much for me. Same problem with my husband's ham and swiss. I still really like the little place though, and will try some of their pastries the next time I stop by.

This is in the country outskirts of the burbs and what a gem. My mom - in-law raves about this place. The food is homemade and you can taste the love. It's also known for its baked goods which are also homemade. It serves breakfast and lunch and closes at 2pm on most days. I want to try the breakfast here sometime. Today it was lunch. Upon entering the place, you'll probably notice the furniture doesn't match and the chairs are all different. I like it. There is a nice charm to this kind of decor. Towards the front is a couch and chairs if you are ordering to go and need to wait. You have to line up to order food. If you're dining in, you are given a number to set at your table. I ordered the soup and sandwich combo. It was any kind of sandwich and the soup of the day was Roasted Cauliflower. The sandwich special, which is also posted in the marquee board outside, was a Turkey Romanesco. It was delicious. The soup was savory with bits of soft cauliflower. I can still taste it. Oh so good. Mmmmm! Part of me wants to say "yea! Come try this place." But the other part of me wants to keep this a secret for you but alas...it's not much of a secret if I'm telling you about it now.

Love everything about this place: sweet airy farmhouse decor and ambiance, good sandwiches on fresh bread and great coffee, nice staff, great shopping for fresh produce and cool gifts across the street at the berry barn. It's in the middle of nowhere but it's a great afternoon destination if you can remember to get there by 1pm. I just wish they were open later into the evening.

The lattes are excellent - get the hemp latte. the 16 oz is a bit expensive (with the hemp) at $4.00 but it is really good and worth it. I wouldn't be able to go every single day and buy one at that price but I love it when I do get it. I'm eager to try their lunch menu now.

Great little stop in wine country/farmland. Try their breakfast sandwiches...insane tasty. It's simple food, done well. They make a mean cubano, surprisingly. It's a no-brainer in this part of town, since...there is really nothing else. But even if there were other options, this is a cute, friendly, and consistently solid place to stop and get a bite.

This farmhouse cafe is not to be missed! Well worth the drive. Show up at opening (9:00 am) on weekends for first pick of fresh cinnamon rolls, fruit tarts, scones and turnovers. Lunch is awesome too. The staff is beyond amazing!!! Great for a group! Outdoor seating in the summer. Best latte in town!!!

I LOVE THIS LITTLE PLACE!! baked goods: beautifully presented & home made. do NOT miss out on that berry cobbler. breakfast: i'm a breakfast Nazi, & this place has my win. their take on a croque monsieur is DEVINE! lunch: they have a different sandwich special EVERY week!! this week is the muffellata, last week was a tuna melt, a few weeks ago was a smoked turkey w/ apple, brie, bacon & bechemel sauce (OMFG). all their sandwiches are to DIE for. parking & the main street it's on is a little dicey, and they only serve breakfast items until i *think* 11:30, which with my schedule is a little early. but i must admit, this area of town has many 50+er's, so i forgive ;-) i will continue to go here frequently; you just can't deny true love.

I can't stop thinking about this adorable cafe. The atmosphere is comfortable and quaint. The menu is simple and straightforward, but with enough variety to please every palate. Based on the menu description, I wasn't expecting much from my garden sandwich but the first bite just blew me away. It had a thick stack of greens, roasted squash, tomato, and pickled onion. Everything was so fresh and I'm guessing most of the ingredients are locally sourced from the surrounding farms. There was also a nice selection of homemade pastries (I had a perfect lemon bar) and the coffee is delicious.

  • Chris H.

The food and staff at this cafe are awesome. The coffee is unmatched and the building has lots of character including stories of almost falling down in a wind storm. Viewed from the right angle and you can see that things are slightly tilted.

What a lovely way to start a day! It has been a while since we have been in and each day not here is a missed opportunity to relax and relish God's gifts. A great cappa, a fine drip and then, oh gosh! He had the strata: A crusted mistura of artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, prosciutto, spinach, eggs and cheeses. I had the biscuits and gravy, at once warm and milky but with a spicy sage pork sausage that you would want to lick off the last bit from the plate. I note that there are more small two tops for the seating, less of the big round quarter sawn oak tables, but a change people expect. I miss the bigger tables where conversations would ebb and flow with whomever sat down to add to the discussion. The baked goods looked out of this world, as they always do. We were enjoying a two day staycation, and this is just the nicest way to begin such a thing. Please, if you have not enjoyed a breakfast, a late morning nosh or a lunch here, treat yourself.

What a fun little place to spend a Saturday morning. We have been known to drive over an hour to find good food. I work in the fine dining food industry and we are very selective about the places we frequent for food. This is somewhere we will be back to and it's only a 20 minute drive from home. The food is really good and you will leave satisfied. They are doing it right. Oh, make sure you the pear tart, it's to die for.

I came here for breakfast on a weekday with my husband. It is close to our house so I was really excited to check it out after reading all the great reviews. I really wanted to like this place, but I just did not. I had a breakfast sandwich, it was fine, the bread was toasted a little hard for a sandwich, you know where it scrapes the roof of your mouth.... Unpleasant. The coffee was hot, serve yourself, one free refill. The ambiance was fine, but overall the food and experience did not feel like much of a departure from eating at home. Someday I'm sure I will make it back for the weekend breakfast.

Cute little cafe in the country. We ate here with a group of 9 on our way to get Christmas trees. The food was tasty (especially the marionberry cobbler) & the atmosphere was eclectic in a good way. I had the chicken salad- yum! and my husband had their argentinian beef sandwich- yum!

Not many great breakfast spots in Beaverton that have good food, coffee, sweets, and atmosphere - EXCEPT South store Cafe. We come here with our baby at least once a month and always get the biscuits and gravy, and cinnamon roll! Right across the street from Smith Berry barn when it's berry season, nothing is better!

LOVE this place! Went with an old friend today we had the "Torta" Had to be the best egg dish ever! A pie like concogtion of egg, Portobello mushroom and roasted red peppers as well as other secert ingredients. Thw owner comes over to chat what a wonderful place!

Directly across from Smith Berry Farm! Perfect location for lunch after we picked our fill of yummy berries. I had the sandwich of the day, Curry Chicken Salad Sandwich ($7.50) which was made with cashews, grapes and mango, on Grand Central Bakery whole wheat. Very tasty! My friend enjoyed the South Store Club($8.25) - turkey, bacon, Swiss, avocado, mayo, tomato, greens on toasted bread, and a House Salad ($3.50) - mixed greens, blue cheese, hazelnuts, cranberry, and apple tossed with house-made bistro vinaigrette. Everything disappeared and was truly enjoyed. Their baked items looked super yummy, it took serious will power not to go there. I am thrilled that I don't live anywhere near this place or I would go all the time which would not be good for my figure. You order at the counter and they serve your at your table. Very charming exterior and interior.

Even though this is a cafe, their food is good. Food: I had a Lentil soup and my boyfriend had a sandwich (sorry, I don't know what kind it was, but it was very very super dooper delicious. I only had one bite lol :( sad). The soup of the day was Lentil Soup (I didn't catch the whole name of the soup, so it's called Lentil soup). It was very delicious. I don't really want to say it but, I felt like it was made from the bottom of someone's heart. Very good soup. Service: It's a cafe so there's not much service except the cashier lady and the person that brings out your food. Water is self served too. :) Ambiance: It looks like what a cafe normally looks like. Tips: *They don't open all day. Only morning til lunch time. *Small parking lot. *Gets packed on Sundays.

We were in town visiting a med student. Needless to say she doesn't get out much. So looking to expand her territory and wanting to explore the countryside of Oregon (so beautiful) I sought advice from my Yelp brethren and came here. We had a late breakfast of the most amazing food, but let me tell you about the tea. I'm a tea drinker. It's hard to be a tea drinker in the USA. But here they bring you tea in a pot. Oh how simple and amazing to be treated like a real person! After breakfast we got a couple of pastry to go for our roadtrip and then wandered across the street to pick up some fruits to go too. This is a great location and I love the dining room tables too. It's all works.

Over Spring Break, I had a day off and decided to take a family drive and we stumbled upon this quaint little cafe. There menu is limited but the food is quite tasty. I had the meatloaf sandwich, to die for, and homemade Tomato soup both of which were full of flavor. I am rating this only four starts do to the size of the menu but I would give it the last star for a larger menu. Do just pass this one by, you'll truly miss out.

Another fine hidden gem in the countryside of Hillsboro! Such a quaint cottage-like atmosphere. We found this cafe through another highly rated site. We've only been here for breakfasts on numerous occassions. Their fruit pastries are freshly baked and the quiche dishes are delicious. Everything is made there so it's like a homecooked meal with friendly service and a warm homecoming greeting. We love to take our out-of-towner guests here and they fall in love with the place as well.

We found this place on Yelp after a couple of great hiking trips in the area. So glad we did. We loved the quiche and the granola and bought a couple of pastries to eat later in the day. One was even gluten-free! The friendly staff also recommended another Metro-owned space to explore that was close by. Highly recommend it. We will be back.

If you just got back from picking berries right across the street, then you need to try this amazing cafe/lunch shop. Everything is good! The meatloaf sandwhich is my husbands favorite. All the food tastes so fresh that it must be local! Please support your local restaurants!

Charming old house in Scholls serves up delectable pastries and tasty sandwiches. My South Store Club was jammed with goodies like a slice of ripe, flavorful tomato, crisp bacon and peak avocado with turkey on lightly toasted whole grain bread. The apricot blueberry galette I shared was fresh and crisp, leading to fork-wars over the last crumbs.

We stopped here after picking berries down the road at Rowell's and were pleasantly surprised. We weren't expecting much but they had delicious sandwiches and desserts to die for (the blueberry cobbler was delightful!). The atmosphere was nice and laid back, loved the big wooden tables.

Stopped again on 7/10 for some breakfast before our ride. Our ride was supposed to go about 90 miles, but after breakfast we decided to go about 190 miles. Worth the trip. But I digress. I had the french sandwich, and it was delicious. The coffee is fresh. My wife had the pecan sticky bun, which she has been wanting for quite some time. This was a very dense sticky bun, had nice flavors, but was a bit tough. So what. Sat outside in the country and enjoyed the view. I still contend that this is a great stop before a long ride or a trip to the wineries.
