It's embarrassing to admit it but I love a good Mongolian Grill. I grew up eating at several Chang's locations. Over the years, I stopped because better one's opened across the river that have way more flavor options to chose from and better ingredients. A couple of weeks ago, I was reintroduced and my food was way better than I remembered. However, I went to a different location (another one between Portland and Gresham). Now that I work RIGHT BY this place, I was stoked. However, today I was let down. This location is downright dirty. The food bins were scarcely filled. We were told that we had at least 20 minutes before last call but were actually given 10. They close at 2:30 for dinner (which I find to be awfully early). It is $7.95 for a lunch buffet with no option for a cheaper one time through to-go option (they do this in Vancouver). The food still hit to spot though. Just a note about the guy that said add 5 scoops of oil- Just know that if you do this, you WILL be in the bathroom. Its one of the unfortunate things about the only spicy seasoning being chilli oil. They do have siracha to top this off when it's done.

You're relatively overpriced for what you get. You're not the cleanest joint. You make me work to eat. And I don't see many smiles within your walls. Yet, I'll return. Maybe not monthly, but I will return. Why? Because the food is so freakin tasty and it's fun to create my own delish dish. Here's a tip to add a bit of excitement to your next visit. If you like your food on the spicy side add at least 4 scoops of the hot oil. Not only do you get your tongue tingling but you get to see flames thrust up from the grill about two-feet high! Very cool. The cooks won't appreciate it as much as you do, but give them a few bucks in tips for the trouble.

We went out to Chang's tonight at about 6:45pm. The place was packed. They had to "find" us a table. The food was great, as it always is. It was cooked to perfection. The ingredients were well stocked. As things were starting to show the bottom of the pan, they were being replaced. Our waitress was very attending. We didn't have to wait for anything. Great service, as well as the wonderful food.

Good food! Walls & fixtures are dirty I think because of the cooking grill is in dining area which the kids love to watch.

Those who've given this place one star don't seem to grasp the concept of the Mongolian grill. If it doesn't taste good that's on you, you select all the ingredients! It's not Benihana and they don't do fancy tricks. The grill chars the food, it doesn't burn it. The offerings are fresh and varied, there's something for everyone. They keep the bar clean and stocked and give prompt service. Good iced tea, too! I just wish they didn't close in the middle of the day!

I love changs! The food is always tasty for a good price. Upon moving to Gresham I was glad to know that there was one close by. I got my plate and dug in... but happened upon a hairy situation. Yes, there was a long black hair in my noodles maybe from one of the prep cooks. You know it happens all the time! Just be a bit wary before you eat. My service was terrific! I reccomend coming in right when they open for lunch. To the reviewers who complained about not having enough room for their party- not every restaurant is designed to cater to your every need. They can't fit large tables because the place gets so busy! That's that. To the people complaining about the place closing at 3-- that's actually normal. The restaurant I work at does this as well.

Food is good. Cleanliness & Service are in dire need of attention!! Which can ruin an appetite as well as good experience. None of the staff smile, hostess walked by us Twice not even acknowledging that we were standing there. Then a few minutes later was sitting behind hostess stand reading a book! Seeing how filthy everything is why not grab a sanitized towel and wipe the buffet area down???! Hummmm? Management is definitely lacking big time here!!!

What is it that I love so much about this place? It's pricey for having to serve yourself and stand in line while it cooks. $13.95 for dinner without a drink. Yet I come back time and time again. The Gresham location is clean, and service is good.

Went there for my son's birthday. Food is mediocre at best. Not much flavor even when loading up on garlic, oils etc. Uninspired low paid cooks (tip jars at cooking station?) We came as couples and paid separately, yet rude host charged us a gratuity for being a party of 10. (His job consisted of seating us, bringing water and soda, pointing to the buffet) Tipping is not to be taken as granted. It is given for exceptional service, which we did not get. Being guilted into leaving a tip for cooking your food? I'm not a cheapskate. I leave generous tips when deserved. And I have tipped cooks for an exceptional meal. But stir fry? They didn't even flip the (low grade rock) shrimp into their hat! Grade D-. I will NOT be going back.

This location is a little bit out of our way to travel but I think it is worth the time it takes. Its not nearly as packed as other locations especially the one 122nd. They also seem to use more of the liquids from my bowls more and use less of the water to cook my food. I also enjoy the soup here more then the other location. I don't know if they use the same recipe or not. The soup here is not as sweet and more sour which I really enjoy.

We have rediscovered this place recently and I notice they have some staff changes going on. If you get there at noon it is going to be busy getting to the line to have your food cooked, but it seems once the line dies down, you are in the clear, all at once. Service is good and the food is fresh and always stocked. From my first review they have not updated anything but it does actually seem a lot cleaner. They are always nice to us when we come in and make sure we have our drinks on the table before we get back. Two people can get out of here for around $18 and that isn't bad for an all you can eat, fresh food buffet.

It's been a long time since I was treated so rudely. No "Please wait to be seated" sign so we went looking for a table. After getting all settled into two tables one that seats 8 and another next to it that seats 4. Then a staff member came up to us and told us that she had to seat us. As she took me back to the register the woman behind the counter said she could seat a party that size. I informed her of the two tables we found, she rudely told me they can't seat us separately. I asked how long it would take to get a table ready a she said rudely again that they could not serve a party that big. So we left.

Good option if you don't know what you want. Can get busy with a long wait but hey what do you expect. Soup, rice, wraps, ice cream after, what else can you ask for.

I crave Chang's on a weekly sometimes daily basis. I've tried out a few locations but the Gresham one has been my favorite so far. Don't come in expecting a fancy fine dining experience, the almost run down look to it they have makes it feel like home. Hands down my favorite meal.

We used to go here all the time - but the last time we tried we were refused entry!!! They closed at 3 to open again at 5 and we showed up at 2:30. We were told there was already a "last call" and we couldn't eat there. Contrary to my initial reaction's inclination we came back 2 weeks later and tried to eat there again. They let us in! Wonderful! A restaurant that let's people eat there while they're open - who knew?! Sarcasm aside - once we ate, it was nowhere near what it used to be. The good wasn't bad - but I REALLY liked the rice paper before. It was super dried out and cracking this time. Not the fun chewy texture that I remember. All in all, it wasn't bad - but I'm definitely not as much of a fan as I used to be. It doesn't help that they refuse to serve you during open business hours.

We came at 2:22 and they were closing at 2:30. No problems no attitudes! They cooked our food to perfection and we ate! Thank you Changs!

I liked the concept. I also liked... -The hot tea -The complimentary soup with our meal -The friendly waitress -Noodles galore -The sauce possibilities -Getting it cooked and grilled on demand -The unlimited portions -The meat/tofu selection -Sesame seeds in a cheese shaker -A squirt bottle of teriyaki sauce My grandma didn't understand how it worked- but other than that, I was content.

It's really more like 2.5 stars but I'll be nice and round up. I have a very restricted diet, as close to Paleo as possible and Chang's is one of the few places I can control the ingredients I put in my food while my boyfriend gets to eat noodles and rice to his heart's content. Granted, I really only go if I can get there right when the dinner hour starts, be first in line, and have my food be first on the grill to help minimize gluten & soy contamination, but it's a small price to pay to get to let someone else cook for me once in a while. That being said, this place truly has plenty of room for improvement. Most of my issues are the same ones anyone else would have, as I ate here many times before making my diet changes: the soup is terrible - as in inedible. I don't even understand why they bother offering it, as I imagine most of it goes uneaten. They bring out rice wraps completely uncovered so within 5 minutes they're stiff and unusable. The cooks ALWAYS overcook your food. I'm not sure what that's about - maybe they're waiting for the veggies to be soft? I've never had any of the shaved meats like the beef not handed to me totally well done. If you stick with the fish, which they cut into hunks rather than slivers, it tends to not be quite so terrible. The service can be really hit and miss...it's pretty typical to go way too long without a water refill. I like the creative challenge of creating my own flavors. I think a lot of people overdo it and cram too many different liquids into their bowl and then complain that everything tastes the same. The more I go the more I realize simplicity is key - I get better, tastier results when I pick just one strong flavor (ginger OR garlic, for example) and then just a couple of supplemental ingredients like salt water or wine to fill it out. I think it's fun to make 2 different dishes and make different flavor profiles for both of them (mmm, ginger beef! or garlic & lime fish!). Added bonus - just this last time they had squid on buffet! I hadn't seen that before and was very excited. Yeah, they overcooked it, but overcooked squid is still squid!

Oh goodness, I love this place. It could have something to do with me being a good cook, so I combine the perfect ingredients and mix my sauce up like a pro. A mouthwatering, sweet/spicy mixture of heaven on a plate. Anytime someone tells me they don't like Chang's, I tell them, "if it tastes bad, you're doing something wrong!" You pick the ingredients, you mix the sauce! If you don't do it right, follow one of their sauces, then add a little of things you like. Don't go crazy, or that's how your food will end up. Chang's is a guilty pleasure, because it is a bit expensive for not having leftovers. I'm lucky if I can eat a second plate, or maybe not so lucky if you measure by waistline standards, so I wish they'd do a single plate price. It does come with soup and ice cream though. And the selection of additions is amazing. Salmon, all kinds of meat, good looking shrimps, delicious paper thin meat that soaks up the sauce as it sizzles on the grill, right in front of your eyes! This is my favorite buffet, nice atmosphere for a buffet place, clean, wait staff is always right on refills, checking on us, etc. And it tastes delicious. If you don't like Changs, bring me, I'll make your plate for you, you buy my dinner! =)

This is stuff yourself for a cheap price place. I have been to a couple of Mongolian grills and this one is mediocre. This is the place to come when you are hungry and want to make a few rounds to the grill with some average ingredients. Good for families and large groups. Cool to watch the guys grill up the food. Staff kind of forgets about you once you sit down. OK Food, OK Staff, OK Atmosphere, come here if your hungry and not expecting much.

Give me a plate of food, flavor, and stuff to add in and I'm super happy. :) My friends in Portland took me here for a fast meal. Ummm you can't go wrong with an all you can eat noodle grill place. I think I had like 4 plates of food. And I cleared them all out. haha, so what, I like food =p. AND you can't blame management if your plate sucks. YOU MIXED IT YOURSELF DUM DUM. I did learn to add a lot of salty flavors or else it sorta gets lost during the grill part.. I'd skip any soups. You don't go to a grill for soup. You go for meat and noodles. Sorta makes me think of a Sacramento buffet place I went to once, minus all the variety. Makes it easy to pick what to mix though!

This place is always a good bang for the buck, I just wish I could eat more. Great lunch for under $20 for 2 which is getting tougher and tougher these days. This is a place that you better be hungry or you will overpay for dinner. Not the cleanest or nicest place but still a fun place to grab a bite. You make your own food so it's always kinda fun and they cook it right in front of you. Buffet style which isn't usually a plus but if you don't make it perfect the first time grab another bowl and run through the line again.

I don't know what to say. The food taste good, but the last three times I've eaten here it's made me very ill. I'm not sure what it is. Service is so-so, about the average for an all you can eat buffet. They set you up and leave you alone.

I just love this place, especially after coming here again from a long absence. The service is not a part of the experience really. they provide refills, soups, extras, and the ice cream; but other than that, it's all on you! LOVE to make my own stuff, love that they fresh cook it, love when I make something that I adore and if I don't, well, next round. Always make is spicy and when I feel like it, wrap it up in a rice wrap. Usually dine once a month and never been disappointed with anything. The only reason I give it one less star...well, I do have to do everything myself and sometimes the line is long as hell, waiting to eat your food that you HAVE in your hand really sucks if you're hungry.

The food is good. I like places where you can customize your whole meal. Don't understand why people don't like the place, you pick out what you want.

I love the food and the variety of ingredients. The only reason I give it 3 stars is the cleanliness and it was really, really hot in there. We arrived before they opened for dinner service. The waiter service station was filled with dirty dishes from lunch, the chairs felt sticky and there were spiderwebs all over the ceiling

Even the most picky eaters will get full here. You never go home hungry or bloated. The price I'd fair for the variety of food you get. The servers always seem to be happy. Try the lamb with the chefs sauce. Make it as hit as you want. Soft serve ice cream is for you to enjoy at the end of you meal.

I don't even know where to begin. The inside looks dirty. The veggies an meats were pretty fresh looking but the counter and plastic guard could use some cleaning. The service was below sub par. The waiter seemed annoyed we were seated in his section and you could barely hear him. At the grill the two cooks seemed more interested in talking to each other than watching the food. They also tried to cook at least 8 different bowl at once which meant burnt food for everyone. This is not the kind of place where they walk the circular grill moving your food along so the it won't burn. They basically throw it down and come back to it after the meat has charred and the veggies are black and the noodles have to be peeled off the grill. It was so bad I actually gave up trying to eat two of the bowls I made. Lucky it's an all you can eat restaurant The upside, if you can call it that is soup which was supposed to be hot and sour but was more like cold and bland. It had giant chucks of the shaved meat in it which made no sense to me. The rice was cold as well and the crepes they bring to the tables already have hardened sides from sitting out so long. Apparently your dinner includes a scoop of ice cream but I was so taken aback by this place I didn't have any. Which is to bad because it was probably the best thing about the meal. I will not obviously be coming back to this restaurant but this experience has completely turned me off from the whole. Chang's chain. They need to remind themselves of what Mongolian BBQ is supposed to be.

One of my top 5 favorite places to eat. Huge selection of toppings to put on your food, and I've never had a problem with customer service. The restrooms are always clean when I attend, and the cooks usually look like they're having a good time because they like to show off their plate handling maneuvers before handing you the food. (Spin around, upside down flip gestures). Haven't met anyone that dislikes this restaurant. Priced fairly.

The kids and I have made a habit of coming here after hikes to add back any calories we may have burned off. We love it and it's an easy way to get the kids eating lots of vegetables. Tip- at the end they offer you a choice of chocolate or caramel for the ice cream. They'll give you both. :)

Great Asian food, especially for a buffet. Don't understand the negative reviews. It's a little spendy but it's a buffet so you get your money's worth.
