We came back to try it again: Better food and better service than last month. In the meantime we tried the new competing restaurant and it wasn't as good as this. We can hope for the best...
We did not know restaurant switched hands. I was ready for great, wasn't. We figured it out. The restaurant we want is across the street now. Was a good deception. If food was the same I would be back. As is we will be across street.
YES! Finding good Mexican food always makes me grin. Finding the tasty stuff in nearby Gearhart makes me downright giddy! The atmosphere at El Trio Loco is traditional Americanized and looks like any other chain outlet. The bottomless basket of chips are heated and the chunky salsa very tasty with just the right amount of heat, tomatoes, fresh cilantro and diced onion. The obligatory on the rocks, limey, salt rimmed, house margarita was large and filled with a generous pour of tequila. When consumed, a second one is on the immediate horizon. The thick menu is like a multi volume book that includes a page of appetizers, combination plates and a children's section which allowed my picky eater grandkids to have no problem zeroing in on their favorites, cheese quesadilla or cheese enchilada. I enjoyed the chicken fajitas. A generous portion of white meat chicken chunks with onions, green and red peppers packed with a sizzle! Choice of flour or corn tortillas and side plated with the traditional rice, refried beans and small salad. Service is brisk and attentive, you never wait long for anything! When I needed additional corn tortillas, our server anticipated my request and already had them with her!

"The lifeblood of a small town" really disappointed this time. First off--NO DRIVE THRU. I was a tad hungry and wanted a snack before the long drive back to Salem, so I stopped here for their delicious chicken strips and gravy. I ordered the four piece "snack" (w/o fries) and a small soda, and my brother got the cherry arctic rush and a flamethrower chicken wrap. We got our food in about 5 minutes and took off in the car. My brothers arctic drink was so freaking sweet that it was literally undrinkable. The syrup to whatever-else ratio must have been screwed up, because there is NO WAY that any normal human being could down this drink. His flamethrower was apparently pretty freaking spicy, as he was making all sorts of noises in the backseat about it. He's a spicy food freak, so I'll take his word for it. Then my chicken strips: four pathetic 3 inch long pieces. What the heck? For $4.09 I was expecting a snack a tad more satisfying. I was a little pissed, in fact, because the last time I bought this "snack" it WAS decent in size. I even ordered two sides of gravy because I was expecting a decent portion. Gosh.
This provides a vital product in Gearhart: soft serve ice cream. Nobody else sells it. In addition it has the usual long list of DQ ice cream treats. I can't comment on the burgers and other regular food. We only stop for ice cream. That is good enough. Unfortunately the service is usually not that great.
I will admit that I am addicted to their onion rings (still the best in the area) and hot dogs (better than the other DQ franchises). Lately, it seems that they have really got their act together. Awesome young lady is one of the managers and she is professional, efficient, and trains the others well. It is nice to see such awesome skills in a younger employee. Latest batch of employees have been really on top of things. As long as they retain their solid employees, things can only get better. The afternoon cook works his arse off and serves up quality fast food. Nice guy too. Te crews at the Astoria and Warrenton locations leave a lot to be desired. It always resembles Romper Room over there. The owner of those two franchises is a nutty loon. I have heard of many bounced checks to employees and poor managerial issues. Seaside folks were damn rude to us twice, so no more. You can keep your cotton candy infested tourists and their seasonal dollars and suck it during the winter when the locals in the know ignore you.
