So My parents grew up out here, and I lived here for a few years as well, over 15 ars ago. Back then this building was the post office. In fact when you enter the wall to the kitchen was the PO boxes, as they have no delivery service in town so you had to go the post office daily to get your mail. They moved the post office down the street and left this tiny building empty. So in moves the chicken! I read the reviews and had to try it. We happened to be returning from McMinnville Sunday at dinner time and gave it a shot. I have to say the waitress, who is the owner as well, was one of the kindest people you will meet. She was funny, engaging, and even let me change the channels on the big screens to the blazer playoff game! It was full except for one table when we arrived, it is a small place with maybe 8 or so tables and a bar that seats about 8. The parking was full and we were on the street parking, but with the bar next door it is hard to tell how full the chicken is. We got lucky and had a table when we got in. The service took a while, watched all of the third quarter before we got our food. But it was worth the wait. I elected the Philly cheese steak with the tavern fries. Both were awesome! just the right amount of cheese, melted to perfection. Don't forget to get the fry sauce, it is as good or better than the old arctic circle fry sauce. My wife had the BIG BOY. The portions are very big! be ready and be hungry. The prices were fantastic! every meal comes with a drink as well, so out total was under 20 bucks! A little more after the tip for this great waitress! we will definitely hit this again!

I stopped in, a few days before 2014 Thanksgiving and it is truly a great local, mom and pop diner. The majority of the food is (home)made right there (no canned, frozen, packaged stuff). I loved my breakfast and the potatoes were perfect fresh, home-style ones...which is one of the ways I personally judge a diner by. :-) If you're looking for a fine dining experience, where the waiter hovers over you, with 'über healthy/fairly tasteless' food that resembles small pieces of art... then don't bother. HOWEVER, if you don't mind salt-of-the-earth, (some grease included) home cooking...then you've hit the jackpot! :-)

Okay, I have to say I love small diners. Homey, sometimes campy, yet there is an ambiance about them that take me back to when I was a kid and diners were all you had to eat at if you brought your kids. Fancy restaurants were for adult date nights, not small children. Well, I found a great place to go if you're looking for great food, wonderful prices, and stuff that will taste like it was prepared just for you. Mostly because it was...this place doesn't do pre-made food. My sister and I took the kids to the Oregon Aquarium one Sunday morning and stopped here for breakfast. I'd read the reviews on yelp and had to come - mostly because of the name. The drive for us wasn't long, but I'm in Hillsboro. The parking lot is small, but there is some on-street parking. We went fairly early so we were seated immediately. What we found was a cute, campy, clean and homey diner. It used to be the old Gaston post office, but has since been sold to create this place. It's small with only 8-10 places to sit. The menu isn't fancy, but it's chocked full of great eats! The portions are great - maybe too much if you're a small eater, or take it home for lunch! They are totally kid friendly - the waitress brought over a small plastic container with little toy treats for her and said she could pick one! The kids' menu is proportioned just for their little tummies! While the grown up menu has got some chuzpah! You better be hungry - or share! My little one had the Jr. French toast which came with one egg any style and her choice of a bacon strip or a sausage link and potatoes or fruit. She ate it all, because it was right-sized for her! She's ten, eats like a mosquito even when she says she's really hungry! My boy had pancakes; the short stack which meant there were two. Yeah, two, but they were the size of an eight inch plate!! They came with eggs, which he didn't order because he's that picky about how his eggs are made. They came with the usual, warm syrup and bacon. He is a hearty eater, but the size was overwhelming - he did his best. My sister had the buffalo steak and eggs. The steak was small, but very filling - about one inch thick; the other usual sides, but she opted for fruit, which they accommodated with a smile. I had the corned beef hash and I have to tell you, it was delicious! Real corned beef, trimmed of all fat, cut into bite-sized pieces with cubed russet potatoes and green pepper. DELISH! The waitress was so pleasant and accommodating and the cook in the back was your favorite grandmother! She was the main cook and boy can she do it proud. If you're on your way to the coast, or just in the neighborhood, then I totally recommend this cute little diner. You definitely get your money's worth!! How can you resist the name - Screaming Chicken!!

This place started over with a new name recently but seems to be the same owners... it had lots of bad reviews on the former site, and i think they started over with friends giving these 5 star reviews. Maybe things are improving now, but a few months ago it was BAD. Cook didn't show up one day, overcooked toast, greasy hash browns, undercooked meat... you name it. The photos on here are misleading from my experience.

3 5 I was really excited to come try this place. I love the sunny country drive out to Gaston. The diner is easy to find, west side of road right after mini mart and the bar.The tiny parking lot has 6-8 spaces. At 11:00 am on Sat there were plenty of open tables. Service was friendly and cheerful. Little slower paced than Portland but that's ok. Breakfast choices are many. Omelettes, pancakes, waffles, french toast, grits two ways!!, taters, meats. Most anything you could think of. Dining companion got deep fried french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, oj and coffee. He was satisfied. I ordered the ham and cheese omelette with pineapple salsa, hash browns, wheat toast, orange juice and coffee. My omelette was delish as was the salsa. The hash browns were crispy and not greasy. There are good lunch and dinner choices too. Loaded angus hamburgers??Buffalo burgers? Fried chicken gizzards? A blt? Chicken and dumplings? Think I'll come back for lunch or dinner sometime soon. New hours 7am-8pm. Daily I think.

In short...this place is a local grease spoon that serves real home cooked meal. On a beautiful Oregon day, I decided to drive into the country after taking a morning class. Before heading out, I checked to see if there is anyplace that was serving breakfast in the Forest Grove area. Never heard of this place, but being from Jersey, I miss my diners. First impressions, clean shop with an open kitchen and looks like 'mom' is in there cooking. My server was friendly and gave me time to look over the menu. Ordered the biscuits and gravy with no meat and a side of scrambled eggs with a coffee. Not much time went by before I got my meal nice and hot. The eggs were FANTASTIC. I despise overcooked eggs, it really shows a good cook when someone can pull them from the heat. These were perfect. Not too runny and not overdone. Really, just right. The biscuits were tasty and I kinda wished I ordered them by themselves because the gravy was so so. I'm sure the ones with meat taste better. Will I go back, absolutely. My man likes his meat and seemed excited on the roadkill patty. Apparently it's a mixture of beef, buffalo, and pork. He didn't accompany me this time, but I don't think it would be too hard to get him to feast. Oh, and it was nice that the bill for my meal only came to $7.50. I think it is well worth the price.

This place is fantastic! The service is quick, helpful, friendly, and attentive! I've never had a bad meal here and I'm incredibly impressed to find a location where they do gluten-free well! I have a dear friend who can't do gluten and we're now able to meet here instead of driving 45 minutes in to Portland. The owners are so kind and fun, and have fantastic stories to tell if you ask, too! :-) The butterscotch milkshakes here rival any I've had elsewhere, and I'm always stoked to find places with good butterscotch.

I've traveled much of the country over the last 45 years and I always look for small diners, since that is where the best (or worst) food can be found. The Screaming Chicken Diner in Gaston, Oregon is one of the best that I have found. My wife normally doesn't finish her meal because she is a light eater. Plus she is gluten intolerant (gets sick for a couple of days). She got the omelette special with a gluten free pancake and she ate it ALL! I've never seen her eat so much food. I had a classic chili & chips and OMG it was good. Root beer float with lots of ice cream and a second glass of root beer, just in case there wasn't enough. We were going to split a piece of home-made banana cream pie, but we were both too stuffed. So we now have an excuse to go back and we definitely will. Highly, highly recommended!!!!

When I first heard about this diner opening, in an article in our local newspaper (we live in Forest Grove, OR), I thought it would be a nice place to try. I liked the idea of great breakfast food made with fresh local ingredients. I liked how it wasn't too far to go. And I liked the name. It has taken us a while to go but this morning my husband and I both said, "Today's the day." The diner is right on Highway 47 and the sign just says "Diner". We walked in and glanced around. Though the space is small, it isn't super crowded. The decor is simple (not at all a chicken overload) with rustic pictures and it looks clean and organized. We waited for a little bit as the staff cleared some tables. We sat down and glanced over their menu. There were lots of good breakfast items, including chicken fried steak, omelettes, Belgian waffles and buttermilk pancakes. But if you feel so inclined, you can order lunch menu items any time of the day. My husband got their chicken fried steak, eggs sunny-side-up, country potatoes and a buttermilk pancake. I got the buffalo ground steak, over easy eggs, hash browns, and a buttermilk pancake. The portions are great and we definitely didn't leave hungry (as our server said we wouldn't). Everything was really well cooked- the eggs and meats were perfectly executed, the pancakes were light and fluffy, the potatoes were well seasoned and crispy. My guy loved his chicken fried steak and the gravy that came with it. Normally we are very picky about gravy as it is either way too salty or simply tastes like flour. Their gravy was a great smooth consistency (not runny or gelatinous) with really great flavor. I really liked that they offer a buttermilk pancake instead of toast. The best part about the pancakes? The outstanding syrup they make in house. It has a beautiful caramel appearance and flavor and was literally the best syrup I've ever had. The staff here is helpful and nice. There aren't a whole lot of them but they did a great job today. I really appreciated how attentive they were. Good service, great food - we will be back, Screamin' Chicken!

Cash Mob in the Grove held one of their get-togethers here and talked it up on Facebook. This morning after a drive around Hagg Lake I decided to give it a try. This review will not just focus on the food and service but my overall impression of the place. It's in good location, well marked and has a good amount of parking. Going in, a cold blast hit me as I went to my table. A waitress pointed to one by a big window. The a/c was on. It was only 10:45, so I was chilled and uncomfortable the entire time. I'm sure if it was later, and the diner was crowded I would have appreciated it more. The service was sub-par. I always had to ask my server for this and that instead of her coming back to my table and asking me if I needed anything. Oh yeah, there were 3 customers in the diner. Sad. You can have breakfast or lunch all day. I chose a Patty Melt with green salad and Bleu cheese dressing. It took forever. The grilled marble rye bread was so greasy it flopped over when I picked it up. Yuk. I cut one half into thirds to be able to pick it up. Greasy. Greasy. Greasy. I used my fork to eat a Patty Melt! The Bleu cheese dressing was so salty I asked my server to give me a different salad with Ranch dressing on it instead. I told her about the salty dressing. She must have told the owner as another lady came to my table to apologize about it saying she needed to go over the correct recipe with her staff. I heard her say later the Bleu cheese dressing was "86ed". There was nothing about my visit that would make me want to go back to the Screamin Chicken Diner, and I will tell my friends to skip it. Overall impression? It was NOT good!

Small diner in Gaston specializing in local fresh prepared food. Large variety of choices. Friendly staff. Always clean. Haven't found anything yet I do not like. For breakfast it's biscuits and gravy for me. Dinner is the great roadkill burger. Always running new specials daily. Stop in, you won't be disappointed.

Went out of my way to give breakfast a try at the Screamin' Chicken. Nice thing about this diner is they offer breakfast all day long. It was late morning and the diner was about 2/3 full. Tables were clean and set with silverware and napkins. Our server promptly brought us menus and water. Within minutes she was back to take our orders. Our orders of chicken fried steak arrived in a timely fashion. The first thing I noticed was the generous portions. The hash browns and eggs were perfectly cooked, and the gravy covered chicken fried steak looked inviting. Up to this point everything was looking like 4-5 star diner experience. While the over easy eggs and hash browns were excellent, the chicken fried "steak" was cooked dry, and the gravy wasn't helping to make it palatable. Has ground beef become the new "steak"? Maybe, but still a bit disappointing. The gravy was bland. Salt and pepper helped a little, but I ended up leaving half my gravy covered "steak". The only other negative was two toddlers crying and roaming around the diner. I couldn't figure out who they belonged to until our server explained they were her kids. Seems her baby sitter couldn't watch them so she brought them to work. I appreciate her work ethic, but screaming kids are worse than loud music. I won't go out of my way to return to the Screamin' Chicken Diner.

This was actually my 3rd time at the Diner, but since I don't get cell reception there I kept forgetting to check-in when I got home. The food is basic, hearty and full of flavor, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Honestly, this place reminds me of the small town diners that I remember when growing up. The food, while basic, is fantastic and hearty. As a fan of chicken/country fried steak this is one item that I gravitate to on any menu that features it, and theirs is one of the best that I have ever had. The breading is crunchy and doesn't just flake or fall off as is common with many places that serve this item. Honestly, this reminds me of what my mother used to make and I have to apologize to my mother since theirs really is better than hers ever was. If I had to have one complaint it would be that their potato products, whether it be fries, hash browns of mashed potatoes, never seem to have enough seasoning. Aside from that, the reasonable pricing and the tasty food has made me a fan of this local diner.

Great place! Wait staff is super nice, food is very good and fresh. Nice to get out of Forest Grove, and take a nice ride through the country side. Endless cup of coffee, gotta love that. There are no other diners in the area that have traditional breakfasts that tastes great. We love this diner, and pretty much go every other weekend. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
