Was very surprised to find such good food and service in Fossil Oregon. There were seven of us for dinner. Several had fried chicken that included a thigh, breast and a leg, mashed potatoes gravy and a very nice salad. A couple of had shrimp fettuccine, not bad, needed some wine in the sauce, but overall better than ok. One person had French dip and said it and the fries were excellent. The server was fast and efficient. All in all if ever in Fossil again we will go back. We didn't try any but they had homemade pies and cake, they looked wonderful.

After driving through the beautiful countryside, my wife and I stopped for lunch at RJ's. Though far from the best I have ever had, my Reuben was decent and was accompanied by a choice of fries, chips, or tater tots. My wife really enjoyed her ham and egg on a croissant. Both choices were just under $10. Our server was attentive and efficient, but it did take quite a while for the sandwiches to get out of the kitchen. If in a hurry, it might be a good idea to not stop by if the restaurant is busy (there were half a dozen tables occupied when we stopped). So the food was okay, but don't look for anything imaginative.

One of the best steaks I've had anywhere. What a pleasant surprise! I told my wife I'd go back to Fossil just for another steak!

One of the only restaurants left in Fossil. You have to really think before you write a review for RJ's. Be fair. The closest grocery store is over an hour away. When you take that into consideration they are doing great. The service is friendly and the Reuben is amazing.

Went here for dinner a month ago, for the last night of our week-long vacation. After camping for most of the trip, this was our only meal out all week. We drove by at first, a bit suspicious. The other restaurant in town didn't seem to have any atmosphere (although we heard later they serve some tasty food) so we ended up at RJ's. I ordered the fettucini with a salad, and my husband got a steak. He wouldn't normally order a steak in a sports bar, but since we were in cattle country, he figured it would be a decent option. We sat at the bar, had some Oregon beers (always tasty) and enjoyed our salads and bread. My pasta was delicious, and my husband's steak was unbelievably good. He ordered it rare, and it was... very rare. He loved the marinade, and said that the steak was incredible. Who knows if we will ever be back to this little town... but if you ever find yourself in Fossil, OR... you will be surprised at how good this place is.

I was with a large group that passed through the area recently and we decided to check out Fossil's new restaurant. I waited awhile to write this review to cool down from the experience, but nope, still upset. So here goes. Our experience was definitely miserable due to the skinny, short dark haired female employee who I hope to God was not a manager. I'm gonna refer to her as Dragon Lady or DL for short as I'm pretty sure she could have breathed fire if she tried. I'm guessing that's how they heat their oven. DL greeted us and said our table we had reserved was ready in the bar area. The person making the reservation didn't know we were going to have a minor joining us and asked if we could all sit in the main dining room (there was plenty of room). She chastised our group for a long time as she said she had told us we'd be in the bar during the reservation process and our group was divided between the dining room and bar. In the bar we ordered drinks. One drink was never brought. One in our group mentioned she was gluten free and ordered an iced tea, DL brought her a beer instead. We also had a very nice young waitress serving us and she did a great job. However DL took every opportunity she could to shriek at and berate the poor girl while she was serving us. That girl demonstrated more self control than I've ever seen. It made me sad because she's probably used to this treatment which I found unacceptable, especially in front of customers. Though we were not treated like customers, more like people she was taking pity on us by condescending to serve us. Any request by our group was met with a rude comment or sigh by DL. I'm also going to point out that we were not a difficult group. The people I was dining with are probably some of the kindest, politest people I've ever had the pleasure of dining with. I wish we had left once DL started yelling at us about the reservation, but they chose to stay. There were several more mistakes with our order but ironically, none of these mistakes were because of the young waitress but all at the hands of DL. It's a shame we had this experience because the food was actually pretty good. I really enjoyed the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. The skin was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. My berry pie was homemade and delicious. It looks like they run some good specials on Prime Rib and the portions are large. Tap list is more of the Widmer Hefeweizen, Deschutes Mirror Pond, Bud light, Coors light variety. The person in charge of our group vowed to get in touch with the owner. I sincerely hope they did and this employee had to take some classes in Human Decency and Customer Service. The food was good enough that I'd stop in again while passing through the area, but only if the Dragon Lady isn't working or is at least muzzled in the back as I can't support a business who treats both their customers and employees in this manner.

This is a casual small town restaurant. There are really not many other options around for eating in a town of population of about 400. Food and service were both good.
