As a local, they have now lost any future business from me. Called in an order to go, and the new waitress didn't have a clue. When I came in to pick my order up and give a heads up to the owner, he couldn't be bothered to take 30 seconds to hear what I had to say. After 30 years in the customer service industry, no one seems to be concerned how they treat their customers. What the hell happened? This place, like all others in town, depend on the locals during the off season. It's not summer 12 months of the year. When you politely bring up an issue, no one wants to hear it! Fine, I'll respond with spending my money elsewhere, and send my friends somewhere else.

Tonight's visit was very disappointing. We were excited to return however, the clam chowder was worst I have ever had....hubbies "prawns" were breaded mushie shrimp from box..The music is great..the service is great..but tonight's meal was not worth coming into town from the RV..Sorry gang..loved the music..and the beer was ice cold..that has happened before..not consistant..will try something more Mexican when I give it another chance.

Lemonade was great! Entire family loved their meals! I had the prime rib sandwich.

My wife & I had dinner there. My wife had Halibut & chips, I had a chicken fajita burrito. My wife liked hers, I liked mine...not much chicken though. Service was great. We had dinner on the deck...view was nice, however the chairs were small, plastic, and flimsy.

Let me first start by saying, they have a deck on the river where you can eat & drink. That's the best part of this place. The food is subpar and drinks meh. But maybe that's the best you can get in a small tourist town like Florence. My quesadilla was soggy, which is not ideal. My mojito tasted like a rum margarita. But hey, at least we didn't starve and got a little buzz so...

Very fast, friendly service, and the food is good with vegan, vegetarian, and meat lovers choices. Very good strawberry lemonade, with real strawberries in the bottom of the tall glass. My family especially enjoyed the french fries.

Our family stopped here for breakfast. Our waitress was friendly but the food was just so so. There was not a kids menu so we ended up paying adult prices for meals that our kids didn't even eat. We didn't have a bad experience, but this isn't a place I'd go to again.

Execlent food! Quick friendly service! The bacon is AMAZING! Would eat here again for sure! Very reasonably priced!

I had the 'Blue Moon' burger. It comes with bacon and blue cheese with seasoned French fries. And Valerie and Maria were my servers. Highly recommended.

First of all, you can just remove "Gourmet Cafe & Import Shop" from the name. Don't know if that was (or is) the name, but this is a Mexican restaurant, plain and simple. We were trying to walk that line of acceptable to the kids and interesting for us and this worked just fine. Located in Old Town, they have a 'Margarita Deck' out back that overlooks the Siuslaw River. Our favorite part was that they had live music at the bar on Friday and Saturday night. The vibe was a little more local and less touristy than some of the surrounding restaurants. Our food and margaritas were both fine. Again, do not expect gourmet Mexican cuisine. Chips were served warm and service was fine. Under the same circumstances, we would eat here again.

THE place to be on Sunday night! AWESOME music, great energy, wonderful people, tasty drinks! We schedule our trip plans to Oregon around Sunday night at Traveler's Cove!

My friends and I popped in here on a trip to the coast for quick eats, since many of the other restaurants were much busier. And there was a reason why.... Because sadly, the food at Traveler's Cove just really isn't very good. It's not exactly bad, but it's lackluster and underwhelming at it's finest. Also, not a lot of seafood options. On the coast. Like, not really anything like, I dunno fish tacos? The service was also... not very good. I have some dietary issues (l can't eat tortillas and rice and a lot of weird stuff) and apparently asking for a burrito, in a bowl, with out rice and lettuce is outrageously strange and Diva-esque. Also, pretty much the waitress trying to play twenty questions to figure out what's up with my dietary habits was kind of.... I don't know intrusive. I promise there is a legitimate reason, but I don't feel like I need to disclose any of it to a waitress, because, damn I just asked for a burrito in a bowl with out rice and lettuce. It's not rocket science. And while I realize it's prime real estate in a coastal town, the poor food and even poorer service were extremely over priced. Meh to the tenth power. Try somewhere else.

No thanks. It's not the worst "mexican" food I've ever had... but it comes close. Edible, but nothing great (or even all that good). Seriously, they screwed up cheese enchiladas. how is that possible??? beans were more like bean goo, and rice was crunchy. service was pretty bad - water never got refilled, had to flag her down for stuff. not somewhere i'd visit again.

We had lunch on Memorial Day here. My only complaint is there was one waiter for the entire place. Seems like they would have realized that on a three day weekend, they would be swamped. It was also a little weird when you enter, that there is no hostess stand, and no direction as to if you wait to be seated or just go grab a seat. That was a little awkward, but we finally just seated ourselves. Once we finally did get our order in and the food arrived. It was fabulous! We had drinks too. My husband got the Mexican Mind Blower. It is HUGE and so tasty! Really enjoyed sitting on their back deck and just enjoying the water and relaxing. We will go back again, I just hope they have more employees, in terms of waitstaff.

We had a wonderful experience here on our way home from a camping trip. We had our little pup with us and were worried about finding an affordable restaurant that would allow us to bring him along. We were in luck! Sure the food might not be the most creative fare but for what it was, it was reasonably priced and well prepared. The waitress was very friendly and went out of her way to check on us frequently. Our tummies and pocketbooks were grateful. If you are in the area and want a quite spot with affordable and tasty food this is a good choice. (Extra points if you bring a furry friend)

Great atmosphere. Pleasant staff. The food was excellent. I had the Burrito Asado and it was one of the best burritos I've had in a long time. We will definitely be back.

June 2015 We RV to Florence every year and look forward to eating at the Traveler's Cove. While there we eat at TC's 3 or 4 times. We sit on the river patio and enjoy their broad selection of good food. See you next year.

The little back deck over the river is one of the gems of the Oregon coast, sheltered on three sides and gorgeous views. Food's good too, a notch or two above your average bar food (ask for the bay shrimp enchiladas). Add live music on weekends at the front of the bar and you've got a nice little over-achiever of a restaurant. We love this place!

The service was awful and the halibut was nothing but pre breaded frozen fish the size of a big fish stick. The clam chowder was not creamy or good, I sent it back. This place is missing a perfect opportunity with being on the water and not serving great food and in need of remodeling, it's a dive.

  • Chuck S.

Just finished lunch. Terrible halibut and chips. Go to Mo's for good seafood. The fish at Traveler's Cove was basically three pitiful fishsticks. The fries were frozen. I definitely won't return. Perfect location, but that's about it. I was truly disappointed.

This place is most likely the only place in this strip in Old Town that I trust. And Shelly was a magnificent server and was timely but not back and fourth too much with the table. She suggested good items on the menu and even asked of we wanted to split the tab at the end of the meal. Trust this place. Good Mexican food for this city.

  • Alexandra S.

The food is fine, and the location is fantastic: while we ate a perfectly decent lunch on the deck we saw pelicans and a seal! This won't be the meal of a lifetime but it's a solid and varied menu, with plenty of options to satisfy both kids and grownups. NB that the house fries have some kind of spice mixture that your kids might not like.

Decent, fresh mexican staples such as burritos, tacos. Nothing special, but if you are in Florence and want Mexican food then this is your kind of place. Kid friendly. Good, fast service.

This place is kind of a joke. I bummed this is where we chose to eat because I know there is good food in old town. There were four of us, we were passing through after camping in reedsport. The menu was really strange, very random stuff. Two of us got caesar salads, one with crab, one with smoked salmon. That was about the only good part of the food part. She got chowder, said it wasn't bad, I got the soup of the day, veggie noodle in tomato base. Swear it came out of a can. The first bite was also my last. Boyfriend got a burger, they asked how he wanted it, he said med well. It was VERY well done. Took one bite and thats it. Other friend got a BLT. VERY dry, no sauce, dry white bread, like 3 strips of bacon, also didn't eat it. She came by later and asked how everything was... offered to remake it for both of them, but they didn't want it, he had already waited like a half hour the first time. She dropped the check with an apology... Didn't comp anything.... I got up to talk to her, asked her if she was really gonna charge us for the food we didn't even eat, she said yeah. I told her it was inedible and that i refused to pay for the two meals that had one bite taken out of each. She came back to the table with the two meals comped and also 25% off the other two meals.... so at least they made up for it that way. Thats why i'm giving the 2 instead of one. An apology from a manager would have been nice.

Amazing spinach and mushroom enchilada in a chile verde sauce with refried beans and rice on the side. Everyone wanted to have a sample, especially of the mushrooms. Not sure exactly how they cooked them, but they were mouth-watering. Solid lunch stop if you're in Florence, OR . . . even if you can't get a spot on the "Margarita Deck" they'll happily serve you margaritas inside. :)

I am a local here in Florence and this is my favorite place to eat for many reasons. The service and food are great! It has an ambiance day or night. During the day you might want to sit on the "Margarita deck" in the sun and enjoy the view. In the evening, you may want to sit closer to the front door where local musicians will be playing fun, jazzy, music and many regular locals and others will gather and dance. I am a vegan and so I appreciate the willingness of the staff to accommodate by adjusting some selections on the menu for me to enjoy. Two thumbs way up!!!!!

Stopped there because of the outside seating. I got a Rubin, which was OK. Clam chowder was good enough. My friend had a chicken quesadia, which was large and really good. I would stop there again because of the view.

Okay clam chowder. Decent service. Prices reasonable. Nothing else really special or noteworthy from our experience.

Excellent pork carnitas, the band was great but the service is intermittent. Recommend you try it.

We come here most times when we go to Florence. We usually share the Blue Moon burger and some chips and salsa. I would say this is a Mexican restaurant but has other things on the menu. We have had the Mexican food and it is good. Good bar if you are into that. I have had a glass of wine and one time had a margarita. It was good as well. Great service always!

  • Debby A.

Truly a great burger, slow service tho. I would of gave it 4 stars but they charged .50 for tarter sauce and .50 for bbq sauce. I hate when restaurants charge for condiments that costs them next to nothing.. Why do they try to pass the charge on to the customer. Sorry that buck comes off your tip....

My wife and I had lunch here on a rainy Sunday afternoon in November, 2012 - Veterans Day, after the local parade. I had the Thai Peanut Wrap and my wife had the tostada. Both were very good, fresh and tasty. Less than $10 each. Service was attentive and speedy. The menu here is about half Mexican, half "American" and seafood, with a selection of salads and burgers, too. A tempting mix. Everyone gets chips and salsa with their meal. This was the second time we had been here, the first being in July, 2012, when we sat out on the deck. It was perfectly delicious then, too.

Only one visit and the waitress warned me that the crab omlette used frozen crab, but I was feeling the urge for crab. Great service, good view, but that omlette flavor was not good. Should have taken her advice...

The menu is Mexican and American. Burgers are one of my favorite foods, so after moving to the area I was on a mission to find a great burger. I have been here three times and have only had the burgers. I have had the Bacon and Pepperjack burger and the mushroom and swiss burger. They are both delicious. The bacon is thick cut, smokey sweet, and cooked to crispy perfection. The mushrooms were fresh not canned. The burger was thick and perfectly cooked. As my dad said, "it's just the right amount of greasy." Which translates into the fact is was juicy. The serve the burger with tomato, lettuce, and grilled onion. I like the fact the onion comes grilled. The fries are yummy. I haven't tried any of the Mexican dishes, I guess my brain is now wired that this place has the best burgers in town, so get the burgers. I also recognize the irony that the best burger in town is served at a Mexican restaurant.

I usually have the Blue Burger but this day I had the Fish Tacos and they were amazingly good! Not the deep fried usually found in other places , these had sauteed halibut and they were wonderful ! Have recommended this place to do many people and it was first recommended to me by locals.

Great food! Only place we could find to take a big family with children in the area open on Sunday night. To our surprise they also had live music and a great deck. Timely service and a good waitress. Hamburgers were fantastic, my parents enjoyed their fish and chips. Everyone left happy and satisfied!

Since we were not able to get into the wildly popular Waterfront Depot, this place, located down the street in Florence's Old Town, was recommended as a back up. While the overall decor does not have the character of the Depot, the food was really good and generously portioned for the price, and the seating outdoor provided a great view of the river as the sun set. Foodwise, this place is a strange hybrid of Mexican and Oregon coast seafood. Menu options ranged from chicken mole to surf 'n turf. My smoked salmon salad was enormous and chock full of atypical salad fillings like broccoli, yellow peppers and non-iceberg lettuce. The boyfriend ordered fish and chips, and the batter on the halibut was beautifully golden and crisp...and delicious. The garlic fries that accompanied it were also divine, so much so that I, not usually a french fry fan, kept sneaking more from his plate. As with all restaurants in Oregon, Travelers Cove has a good selection of beers on tap and wine, all reasonably priced. So if you're unable to find a seat at the Waterfront Depot, head down the street upriver and check this place out.

Good food, not great, but good. An play hamburger, pretty good salad, bit they do have very good fries, and wonderful sweet potato fries. It can be a little crowded at times though. They have a full bar right off to the side.

Stay away. If you're on Yelp, you clearly know how to research restaurants so don't bother with this place. I'm not a Mo's fan either, but if you're seriously considering this place, save yourself some cash and walk the two blocks to Mo's. You can thank me later. ; )

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
