Stopped in so a Hubby could have a beer, while band across the street was on break. Decided to eat some food...typical bar food, which was inexpensive. They've got tots! Hubby had a burger with onion rings and said it was good ($7). Vegetarian me had grilled cheese (with lots of pickles) and tots ($5). Pint of micro brew beer was $3.75. If you're in a hurry, don't come here ... it took a long time for the food (and to get the check), but had fun talking to the waitresses/bartenders. Then some Locals (Ricky and Vernon) started talking to us, and we had a blast. A 10-15 minute visit ended up being 1.5 hours. We're NOT "bar people", but if you could pick this place up (with the people) and put it in my town, we'd become Regulars. Definitely will stop in again when in the area.
In Dufur, it's about the best place to eat. They have the usual bar/pub/grill type food. They do a good job given the small town. Cliffy is the owner and will go out of his way to make you comfortable and happy with your food. We don't get to Dufur very often, once a year for the Oregon Trail Rally. Lots of fun. Always stop in for breakfast or a beer after the rally in the evening.
Knowing it was a small town, and the only place open to eat, our expectations were not high. The staff was pleasant, but the food was poor quality. The instant mashed potatoes were tasteless and runny, the garlic toast was oily and burnt, and the chicken fried steak appeared to be a processed meat. Keep driving.
