Mohawk Restaurant - American Kitsch Diner This is a biscuits and gravy / meatloaf roadside diner. The food is stock and remarkable in the same way a white line tracks straight down the middle of a road for miles without wavering. If you are a picky eater and want basic food, this place has your ticket. At the same time if you want to enjoy hardcore Americana and true rural diner food, then this is also your place. For all the people from Asia that tour through Crater Lake, they would probably happily take the extra time to eat here if they knew about it as if you are looking for an American experience, this is it. Though food is only a small part of what is going on. The REAL claim to fame and treat (or horror for some people...) of this place is the micro-zoo of taxidermy that populates the dining room. Bears, lots and lots of deer, a timber wolf pelt, badger, and just about anything that can be hunted and killed within 100 miles has been mounted for your dining entertainment. And among all the animals is also a kitschy bottle collection of commemorative ceramic and glass bottles. If you ever wanted to have pancakes in the shadow of a pair of mounted bear cubs, then this is your place.
My wife and I had breakfast here. Everyone was very friendly. Service good, fast and appropriate. The food was good, average portions and reasonable prices. The atmosphere was one-of-a-kind! Words can't describe the taxidermy collection and liqueur bottles. Truly a museum plus restaurant. We would eat here again.
Doesn't look like much from the outside and the taxidermy and liquor bottle collection inside might scare you off but don't let it. The cook does American food in solid fashion. The burgers are better than Stanich's in Portland, OR and the Club House sandwich is enormous and tasty. And the Fries are better than Little Big Burger. Can't wait until I swing by this hole in the wall again.
