I really enjoyed my first time in this restaurant. I had Arroz con Pollo and it was right up there with the best I've ever had. The service was great and the prices were about average for the items on the menu. Thanks Kathia for going the extra mile in service.

My family and I love this place. The family that owns and runs this restaurant are very kind and friendly people and they always make our visit feel very welcomed. My family always has to make special requests on items (because we are picky people) and they are always accommodating and even if they get something made wrong they are quick to fix and replace it with a smile on their face. I admit I am very picky about Mexican food. My family roots go into Mexico and I was raised with Mexican food. I usually order there tamale and chili relleno and I love my tamale with chili verde on top. (See how I am picky) I think they have probably the best chili rellenos I have had. The pepper is cooked perfectly so that it isn't too hard and isn't too soft and it has the perfect amount of cheese that just oozes out yumminess. I recently moved to New Mexico and I have not found a place there yet that has chili rellenos this good... And they are home to green chillies.

I know I come from the land of good Mexican food, so maybe I am a little biased, but to me this place was average at best. I really wanted to like this place but it was just OK. The chips seemed like they were bought at a supermarket and the salsa was the same. The service as good but not great. Really this was a place I might stop in for lunch if I was in town but definitely not worth a special trip that all the other 5 star reviews would suggest.

If you're ordering take-out - and you live in Coquille - The Colonial is an excellent choice. Very nice, fast service, and for to-go orders they really go the extra mile to make sure your food stays fresh. Very good! Now go! Eat... enjoy!

The best option for Mexican food on highway 42 from roseburg to Coquille. Seriously delicious, and the ambiance of the place is relaxing and quiet, but not awkwardly dead silent. If you're on the way to coos bay make sure to stop here for some grub!

We eat out a couple of times a week and this place is absolutely our favorite restaurant in Coos County. Excellent family restaurant with Mexican specialties and American choices. Everything we've tried is wonderful but now we walk in and they ask if we want the usual and they bring it right away. Service is wonderful, food is excellent, it's clean, fast and delicious. Every Single Time. If you have nothing else, I'd recommend any type of their enchiladas. Their enchilada sauce is the best we've ever had and is available to buy in quarts to go which we've done. (try it on scrambled eggs...yum) It's dark, rich, nearly creamy in it's texture and flavor. We recommend the Colonial to everyone!

I like the Colonial because the food is great, service is fast, friendly and always accurate and the pricing is reasonable. The lunch specials are every day instead of just weekdays. We do order a wide variety of dishes and I have yet to get one I don't like. The things I've ordered more than once are always consistently the same, so I know it will be just as good as the last time I had it. It is great to have this place locally,I don't have to leave town for a great meal!

I grew up in San Diego, often ate meals in Tijuana and Ensenada Mexico, and I can attest: the food from this family restaurant is the real deal. It is the best Mexican food I've found in the US (and Mexico). I'm on a six month motorcycle trip across the US, and I have eaten Mexican food in every state I've passed through. I discovered this place because when I asked, "Where is the best Mexican restaurant in this area?" the universal response was, "Go out on the old Hwy 42 in Coquille, past the high school, and you will see a small family restaurant where all the locals go to eat the best Mexican food in Oregon." The fish tacos and sea food enchiladas are to die for. And this place is like eating in someone's home--the love that goes into the this fresh food can only come from the kitchen of a Mexican Goddess, which happens to be Paco's (the proprietor) wife. Paco is an outstanding chef too. I have eaten fish tacos, my obsession, all over the US, Mexico, and Central America, and they don't get any better than Paco's. This is worth several hours of travel to experience. It not just about outstanding food, it is about the kindness and joy that comes from the family that serves you. Very cool place!!!

Excellent surprise!!!.......My husband, daughter, cousin and I went here last night because my husbands cousin was in town and Mexican food sounded good and I wanted to try this place. I didn't really expect to find a good mexican food in Coquille but I was wrong.. This place is worth it... There are plenty of selections on the menu with VERY good prices for what you get. First off, they have excellent margaritas!!!... the strawberry margarita was perfect (lol... I would go back just for these). The restaurant was busy. The service was friendly. Now more about the food ... the chips, salsa and side of beans were good. My 8 year old (little miss picky) got the chicken enchilada childs plate, she definatly liked it, cousin Dan got the 2 Chile Rellenos with rice and beans, he said it was very tasty. My husband got a chicken enchilada and chimichanga combo dinner..he said it. was excellent. I got the Pollo en mole combo meal. It was delicious and jjust the right amount of everything. We were all definatly impressed and full when we left. This is a definite one to go back too and a must try if you are wanting mexican food. Yum!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
