One of my favorite places to go in Happy Valley!! Service is always great and tonite I had the cottage pie! Made perfect and had left overs for lunch! I wish they had more cider beers but still worth the Trip

McCool's is awesome. I know, I can't believe I just wrote that. The place is so unassuming from the outside, bland decor and what looked like a wannabe Shari's. It's strip mall neighbors (Pet store, Chinese joint, nail salon, and Safeway) don't make it look any better either. Hence the initial shock when my low expectations were completely exceeded. I had probably driven by this place a thousand times without any interest of ever going in. At the request of a friend, I'm so glad I did. The place is bigger than it looks and looks like it could be a mini-Applebees with the set up. There a lot of youngins here during my first night crowding the big bar in the front. With a solid array of TVs, this place could also be a decent place to catch a game. The staff is accommodating but a bit understaffed during the late night hours with only a bartender and a waitress. The bartender can be a bit distracted with all of the folks crowding the counter, so it may be best to hash it out with the waitress even if it takes awhile to get your drinks / food. Our waitress was super nice and surprised someone in my group with a free birthday sundae while charming us with flair and dirty jokes. Being used to Happy Hour prices in New York, I was floored when I saw how amazingly inexpensive this place is during its nightly happy hour (4:00-6:00PM & 10:00PM-01:00AM) in which the specials range from $2.95 and up per drink. The drink menu is fairly extensive, with a solid variety of cocktails and an adequate selection of beers on tap. There is fairly typical bar food as well, which is also cheap and satisfying while munching over some drinks. The most expensive happy hour food item was the fish and chips ($5.95), followed by mini-corndogs ($2.95), chicken fingers ($3.95), tater tots ($2.95), and onion rings ($2.95). I wish they had more business, but given its location its likely to cater to a local Clackamas crowd for the most part. If it's not employees of the strip mall square coming out here for a drink, it's going to be the residents of the area vying for some happy hour action. Count me in for another go when I'm back in the area.

I am a regular here! Love the atmosphere and the service. My boyfriend and I like to sneek in early Saturday mornings for a drink and some good food. We just love it Sue and Ken are amazing...Love thier service

The happy hour food was good along with the drinks. The jumbalia was real good & a large amount for being their basic size. The waitress could learn a few things to improve her service but not real bad over all.

This place is decent, mostly for its large selection of beer. However, I'm never impressed with the food. I think these guys do a great job catering to the local crowd. It was Super Bowl Sunday, and everyone was wearing all their Seahawks garb!

We used to love going here since we live nearby, but the service has become AWFUL! Rude, rude, rude. We went in last night for a late-ish dinner. The two unoccupied tables were filled with dishes. I had 3 different waitresses walk by me multiple times, and not one acknowledged we were waiting until I interrupted one of them 5 minutes later. After ordering, our food was thrown down onto the table without a smile. There's far too many other places to patronize around Happy Valley, rather than deal with that experience. To the waitress: you didn't get a tip because of the attitude, not because I'm cheap!

Still NOT a fan of this place! Portions are small except for the salads...Yes, burgers are small too and for the money...a rip off! Service was not good...slow and had to ask for more beer! Tables were dirty and not many people in there... I would stop in for a beer but NO FOOD!

This is an update to my previous review on McCools. I had a chance to talk to the Owner regarding his two employees. Of course there is two sides of every story. His Server claimed we called her names such as fat. I find that hard to believe. While not obese I am far from small. While the owner backs his employees 100 percent and at one point said "I do not believe you" he did listen. Towards the end of the conversation he did ask what I wanted done. I suggested retraining. I also was told this Server and Bartender have a personal relationship. I do not know how true it is, but I would suggest they have different shifts. Giving a couple too much power is uncomfortable for other employees and can trickle down to patrons. Up until this incident, these employees were fine. Everyone has a bad night. I do own a sizable business and am aware of all the challenges... We will never go back, and are sadden by this. We have been long term customers and have several locally owned places we will frequent, but McCools was our hands down favorite.

WORSE SERVICE (if you are single.). I watched wait staff running around catering to groups of 2 of more. If your sitting there single, obviously you are a loser without a job that can't afford a beer! This is the 4th time in 6 years I have tried the place in hopes they got their act together. Always the same. DO NOT GO if you are single. With a group you are fine. I went next door to Chinese restaurant ( read my review there. They are bad ass and cater to all!! )

Great place for happy hour. M - F 3-6 Typical bar menu but the food is good, not greasy. I enjoy eating the hummus plate and wings. Friendly server as well.

I want to try to support this place because it's a great community spot, but the last few times i've been there the service has been insanely terrible. The bar tender was such a jerk and I have never felt more unwelcome in a bar then when stepping into this place. The service is unfriendly and slow. Sadly, I really don't recommend this place.

Big booths! Would be a great venue for big groups. Impressive draft & liquor menu. They also have Happy Hour food & drinks & a good menu. There is also a few sports screens.

They have one of the tastiest burgers around - you have to try the Cavalier burger. YUM!

**HH review only** We ordered nachos ($5.95), cod fish & chips ($5.95), double cheeseburger ($4.95), & a Fish Tale IPA ($4.00). The nachos is loaded with ground beef, beans, shredded cheeses, chives, black olives, jalapeños, sour cream, guacamole, & salsa. It's large enough to share with one other & of all the items on the HH menu this is probably the one worth its price. The cod fish & chips weren't that bad actually. Two decent size pieces & choice of fries or tots; we chose tots, cajun-style. The basket of fries or tots for $3.95 on the menu seemed high for HH but paying $2 more & getting the same amount of tots as you would plus two cod seemed justifiable. The double cheeseburger isn't worth the price when all you're getting is a double cheeseburger. I've never ordered a double cheeseburger anywhere but we decided to since our server enthusiastically reported to us that it was her favorite item on the HH menu. Double burger, double cheese, lots of pickles, & thousand island-type dressing is not exciting nor favorable. At first bite, my fiancé described it as a BK double cheeseburger. I was immediately unimpressed. The IPA was good but we were surprised for this being an Irish-American Pub that Guinness was priced high at $5 a pint. Why not cheaper? Oh well, it was just an observation. We liked our server right off the bat. Gail brought menus over right away & we asked about changing sports channels since we were eager to know a score of a football game. In an instant all the channels in the pub were switched to that game. She was quick to bring our food & refill our drinks & all the while with a smile on her face. McCool's has an okay happy hour but it isn't the place to go for healthy foods obviously. This is pub fare & pub fare is usually just mediocre & that's just what McCool's is. Mediocre.

Well, it's a neighborhood bar. So you can't really expect much. Our waitress seemed to be high on cocaine- she was buzzing around so fast and crazy it was making me nervous. She would ask us if we needed anything, go clean a table, and in the way back, ask us if we needed anything again. Um, no, you just asked us that 2 minutes ago. Although it is nice to have someone paying attention, because I suppose it's better than bring ignored while your drinks are empty.

Nice beer list and standard pub grub. Service is also good but not great. Lots of televisions. Worth going if you are in the neighborhood but there are a lot of better choices so I would not drive too far to check it out.

The food is mediocre. The service is mediocre. The beer is really, really cold. I left my purse there and when I called the following morning it was locked in the office. Someone had helped them self to a $100 cash finders fee, but everything else was there. For that, I was thankful and I hope the person who took the cash bought a round for the bar.

It's sad to see how a local pub/grill who I insisted of supporting as a local for 16 years treats their customers now that they are extremely successful and make lots of money. There are rude, and no longer served the food they once did. I visit this pub with my soccer team for years and come in with my family and friends on a REGULARS basis. We came for dinner that was messed up and cold, one meal was asked to be taken back but the manager who made us wait for ten minutes ( while they looked for him). He finally came angry did not ask how the food was but simply said " you always complain don't come here , we can not lose money on food! " $115 dollar bill and he burst over $8 dollar meal. I was sitting watching him talk and I could not stay quiet. I am a family man with grown boys and never in my life had a manager speak to someone I had dinner with or me in such manner. I asked him to please bill me for the all amount, said thank you and assured him he will not see me ever again. His replied "good". He billed me for the all amount , I paid! I am shocked to encounter such treatment from a manager in such a once respected place , I considered my "hood" to treat us that way. The money got to their heads. New season area has great local places that treats us real well they need us more than they do, they simply do not care!!

This place has THE BEST corned beef hash and Bloody Mary's. The Bloody Mary's taste freshly made, not bottled, and are even a bit spicy which is my favorite. The corned beef hash is also freshly made, not canned. The staff is friendly too!

  • Adrian L.

My mother took me to lunch here and it was amazing! I had the Diablo Caliente Burger. It was spicy but not over the top, it had fantastic flavors and the fries were crunchy just like I like them. For dessert we had the bread pudding alamode and let me tell you I was in heaven! It was absolutely the best bread pudding I have ever had! The wait staff was great, very prompt and friendly. All in all it was a great experience, I will go back as soon as I'm in the area!

Great for a beer (lots on tap!) and food. There are other options besides just "bar food", like huge salads and specialty items (lasagna, steak, etc). You can tell they care about the community, like honoring high school athletes and hosting events. Service is friendly and good. It may get crazy busy in there (they are just humans) and will get to you quickly if you need anything. Try it out, you won't be disappointed!

Love this place. Have been a frequent customer here for mmaannyy years . Very friendly family owned pub. They have the best clam chowder and chicken ceasar salad! If you want to know where the locals go this is it.

We love mccools. It's a total neighborhood go to spot for good beer and pub fare with lots of sports on tv. My husband likes the beer and sports aspect and I like how friendly the servers are to us and my four year old. It's nice to get happy hour prices with a toddler in tow! I always get the chicken dinner with asparagus . It's healthy and yummy.

I waffled between a 2 and 3 star review....our first visit was better, but the second was definitely *meh.* This is a HH review only. The first time I had the cod and chips, which I felt was decent for a HH menu. Husband had the double cheeseburger, and it was definitely "meh." The second time, I ordered the much reviewed Cottage Pie...*meh.* Needed salt, and some of the filling tasted burned. Husband decided to try to Chili Cheeseburger, their special of the night. He thought it was good. The fries were good, too. The waitress moved up several notches for me when, after I inquired about the soup of the day, she quickly offered to bring a sample. It was beer cheese, and not too bad, so I ordered a cup. On a side note, I don't like to hear serving staff swearing. Call me old-fashioned, but I don't think it's professional or okay, especially in a place that's pretty family-oriented. Overall, not exactly awesome, but not bad, either.

McCools! Love this place! Been a long time customer! Used to go all the time but seriously stopped drinking! I agree with the other yelper Joe! Sue the waitress is awesome! She has the best customer service and she doesn't make you feel bad when you ask for things! Very comfortable to order from and just talk to! The food is good especially the wings and tots! Wings can be on the salty side but order like I do which is plain deep fried with sauce on the side! Oh sorry for all you non smokers but they do have a smoking section outside on the patio! You can drink, eat, and smoke out there on a nice summer night! Owner and bartenders know me by name and make me feel welcomed all the time! I always get a huge as a greeting and truly feel comfortable here to talk and meet friends cuz at least the music is not blasting so you can't even hear what your friends are saying! McCools is 2 thumbs up for me all around! And in back you have a pool table, big TV, and 6 very busy and loose lottery machines too! Only thing I do miss is smoking while gambling but hey it's all good! I can go out for a break on the patio!

I ate here 3 weeks ago and CLEARLY this place is NOT memorable enough to even writer a decent review! Service was really slow. It took 30+ minutes for our food to arrive and there were only 3 other tables in the restaurant! Really - I ordered a COLD sandwich! We got to the restaurant at 11:40AM - ordered and thought I would have enough time to eat and then go pick my daughter up from pre-school at 12:30. NOPE! I had to leave, go pick my daughter up and come back!!! Food mediocre. The soup tasted as though it came from a can! The fish and chips were soggy, too. I wanted to sit outside as it was a lovely afternoon. However, the chain-smoking gamers from the bar where taking their smoke breaks out on the patio and it smelled like an ashtray out there! Plus, my kids were with me and it was dirty! That's about it. Try somewhere different!

I was a McCool's loyalist for years for their BLT and tots. Service was never awesome but the staff was so personable it made up for it. A couple weeks ago, I took my boyfriend and a couple friends there since none of them had ever been. Ordered my usual BLT no mayo with tots and one of my friends ordered a pita wrap thing. The pita wrap never came. We flagged down the waiter and he told us we didn't order one. My friend said she did and that she'd like to have the pita wrap for lunch. He came back a second later with the wrap and said he had left in the window. No apology. Two bites into my BLT and I bit straight through a chicken wing. Yep. Bit, bone, meat, skin and all. I spit it out and welled up with tears. It was a bit dramatic but I was so shocked and confused! My boyfriend finally flagged down the waiter and explained the situation to which the waiter congratulated me. I asked why there was a wing on my BLT and he said it must've come out of the fryer. He asked why i was complaining when I ate the whole thing. I said I didn't eat it, it's right here. I bit through the bone. He just told me I was the lucky winner and walked away. No apology. This waiters atrocious service ruined this place for me. The chicken wing thing could've been fixed had he apologized or comped the BLT or done anything to make the situation better. Instead, he had me pay for a BLT I was too repulsed to eat and left me questioning why anything on my BLT was in the fryer with chicken wings.

Is this place racist? The waiters where fighting over who was going to take us because they didn't want us. I didn't give it much attention because I was hungry but I did notice. Always when I go, they have been complete dicks. The female waiters are pretty nice but the men are grown and still don't know how to work. Regardless of the bad device and the wait I left a fatty tip cause I know what it's like to serve but this place is awful if u are of color.

1 or 2 starts.. it's a toss up.. McCool might sound cool but that's as far as it goes.. decor is sports-ish, neighborhood bar. the food at this place is pretty bad. menu has burgers, sandwiches, pasta, random "bar food". the hummus plate (why did the person I was with order that?) was probably one of the worse hummus plates i've seen and tasted.. it sucks. my club sandwich was ok. we had to send the steak back. the food is way overpriced for the quality that it is.. it's pretty bad food. they do have a bar and a lot of beer on tap..

Sitting here as I write this and to say it mildly this place sucks. Burgers were over done, Philly meat was burnt, tater tots burnt. Prices are high as well. Warning don't go! Walked out with a $45.00 bill :-/

I got off work early today and decided to treat myself to lunch; I was really craving pizza, but Bellagio's wasn't serving lunch yet, so I popped in next door at McCool's and gave it a try. Several reviews here are really negative, but my experience was great! Perhaps, they've improved in the last year? I ordered the half french-dip and french fries lunch special and my meal was very tasty. The service was fast and cordial - not the friendliest or most eager to help, but they kept my soda refills coming and checked on me multiple times so I never felt ignored. When I got my bill, I noticed they had charged me twice for the soda (which has free refills) and my server was very apologetic and quick to fix the error. As I was leaving, the couple behind me said "that was great, I like it there" and, as I was bragging about my delicious lunch to a girlfriend, she said that McCool's has the BEST happy hour and that it's always been great whenever she goes. So there you have it -- I 'll definitely be back!

When we arrived, there were waitresses standing around doing nothing with several tables dirty. We stood there waiting for 10 minutes with nobody helping us to a seat. We looked at the menu and seen the overpriced dinners and left. Horrible service! But if your a rural clackamas county Redneck, maybe you will like this place since thats what the place was mostly filled with. What a Dive!

  • Chris R.

Well, for starters...when we sat down we observed the staff standing around chit chatting at one of the POS stations. It took at least 15 min for someone to come and greet us and that was after one of the people we were with saying loudly that we had been waiting. Our server returned to ask about drink refills once and that was after we had been presented with the check. The food was decent at best. I remember when this place was pretty, but now it tends to disappoint more and more with every visit.

On a strip of SE Sunnyside surprisingly bereft of worthy night-spots, McCool's gets a reluctant and photo-finish edge over McMenamin's and Godfather's. On the one hand you don't have the tasty but spendy and super greasy pizza of Godfather's, but the drink and appetizer selection is much niftier. But you do pay through the nose for the big selection (counterbalanced by the small-ish portions, thereof) "McCool" was a hilarious and original comedic device in the movie "Super Bad" ... circa 2007. Now the concept and the term seem shopworn. The joke hasn't aged well....every body noticed----everybody, apparently, except the owners of McCool's ... unfortunately, They don't sell the "Irish Pub" them very enthusiastically or convincingly, either...

  • Kristin S.

McCools is cool looking on the outside but disappointing when you walk in. There were many families dining inside and don't get me wrong, I'm a family gal but when I go to a "pub" I want to feel at ease to blow off steam without having to watch my tongue. Typical bar style food ... Good French dip.

Very casual and love that they have outside tables. Service good from one guy. Drinks terrible, food okay. Prices super..If u order anything get the clams. Some of the best clams I've ever had..

  • Angel H.

Decent pub food but never enough servers. Seems management doesn't care if people leave due to never being able to place their food order. We have actually tried this restuarant three times, just in case our first experience was a complete fluke. Unforunately it wasn't. As a point of reference we never actually ate there the first time we tried because they had 2 servers, no hostess and after waiting for 15 minutes (and trying to get someone's attention) we walked out. The server we did see working there were hussling, but when you are waiting, serving and busing almost 10 tables each, how is that manageable? Hopefully managment will realize hiring waiters = customers & money.

I have eaten here many times in the past and have had great food and service . but tonight was the first time I have been disappointed .they were not very busy and the service was slow i had half rack of ribs and they were over cooked . however the Halibut was fine the other thing was they changed there beer special in the middle of the service . also reading over the beer list they had rouge ale as a import beer come on GUYS

Ugh. These were some seriously sucky sandwiches. I had the displeasure of having ordered a patty melt with french fries; my dining mate the equal displeasure of ordering a reuben with french fries. Blech, and blech. Their rye bread was tasteless. Swiss cheese, equally tasteless. It had that dreadful, rubbery texture that processed, cheap-o cheese is famous for. The hamburger patty was fine, though rather on the smallish side for a $10 sandwich. And I hate when restaurants don't properly slice their onions in a manner conducive to being served in a sandwich. So they end up falling out everywhere, instead of being ate. The corned beef should have been called corned gristle. The only thing sorta edible in the meal were the french fries, and these were nothing to write home about. So this whole experience was basically par for the course for so many of the eating establishments I've tried in Clackamas. Meh.

This place 'is what it is', bar food. Better than the food was our service as the owner/manager was very friendly to our group (I was a tag-a-long to a group of soccer friends). I only came here for an after-soccer-game-after-party with that group. They do redeem themselves with tots though!

This place is really Mc-Cool. I stopped in once to kill some time in between appointments. I sat at the bar (I HATE sitting at a table alone) and the bartender and patrons were very friendly and funny. I ordered a Greek Platter, I think it's on the appetizer menu. It's the best. It's better than any I've had at Greek restaurants. The pita is soft and warm, the hummus was excellent, but what I really appreciated about this plate was that it came with sliced cucumbers, tomatos and red onions. I'm a stacker. I like topping my hummus & pita with all of these. It makes it a meal. The next time I visited here was with my husband. We sat at a table and the service wasn't quite as good but the drinks were strong and the food was good.

Live up the street from this wart on Sunnyside. One star for me because I did not demolish my toilet when I got home. Everytime I've been here I say I will not be returning. Wanting to give the wait staff the benefit of the doubt. This time I mean it. Waitresses are humorless drones who spend the majority of time bs'ing with eachother rather than waiting on their customers. The stuff I saw in the front today really makes me wonder what's really going on in the back...and Wtf is up with the owner/owners not seeing and dealing with this sh*t. And prices are way to high for what you get. DO NOT WASTE $ or time.

This is my neighborhood pub. I like it a lot, there are some inconsistencies with service but over all the staff there does a nice job. Good selection of beers, good burgers. Nice to take family too and also nice place to meet with friends to sit and chat. Sometimes we have a "laptop" night where we all bring our computers and surf and drink and talk and eat. We even had a fantasy baseball draft night there one time.
