Visiting some local friends and suggested KENS restaurant. The locals raved about the "BUFFALO BURGERS" so the Six of us had to try them and yes they lived up to all expectations. The Buffalo Burgers were juicy, tender and not gamy. Accompanied by some very very crispy tenders french fries. Service was spot on we decide to sit in the patio area it was very clean and nicely kept. Thank you for the great service and outstanding food. See you on our next trip! SCRC RON

Canyonville. If you've ever been here it was either on accident or an act of love. For me it was an accident. I'd like to call it a happy accident and radiate positivity, but the truth involves a couple tons of peaches, a wooden leg, AC/DC's "Thunderstruck", and one of those road trip stories that is WAY BETTER after the fact. Trust me. Canyonville, population 24, as a town kind of reminds me of a cross between Pleasantville and Deliverance. We arrived just before sunset to find every shop on the main road (only road?) closed, and half the shops boarded up. I would never have known that the casino was just up the way if I hadn't gotten terrifically lost trying to get back onto I-5. We had a 45 minute wait for a tow truck that turned into almost 2 hours. Starving, irritable, and done taking photos of the gorgeous hanging flower pots, storefronts, and parks, we turned to look for food. We saw many picturesque families strolling, and a couple of characters who looked like they spend their weekends lowering lotion in baskets or strolling the back woods with a chainsaw, but hey - I'm from Eugene, it takes a lot to worry me. The restaurant was closed, but we'd already walked by Ken's twice, so we figured why not? The reader board on the sidewalk promised many amazing specialities. A buffalo burger, a salmon burger, a salad, a lobster wrap. Unfortunately the lady at the window let us know they were out of buffalo, elk, and anything but beef. Salmon? Out. Beef only. It was hot, she was antsy as a line grew behind us. Seriously- no one was around until we stepped in line and suddenly the whole town needed a milkshake. I work with ESL students and do a lot with proofreading day in and day out. I get crap for being a "grammar Nazi" or poking fun at simple spelling mistakes on Facebook. I think it a misnomer- to date, none of my grammatical misgivings have wiped out millions on a whim or affected global politics for decades in ANY way, shape, or form, but perspective, I guess. Misspellings on a menu or reader board give me serious pause. My daughter is dyslexic - therefore she is extremely careful about how she writes and spells. She'll ask for a double-check. Heck- teachers at my work ask each other to for double-checks and use spellcheck everywhere. When I see egregious misspellings on the public face of a business, I first wonder if they're messing with the general public, and secondly, I wonder about their attention to detail. It's not a commentary on anyone's education level or intelligence, it's simple attention to detail. It's copying words from one place to another and making sure things are presentable. It's knowing that they had the humility to double-check and are ok with others finding errors so that they can be corrected. Usually the menu is just the tip of the iceberg. A "burger" in one place was a "berger" on another. "Fries" were alternately "frys" and are cut fresh with the skins on DAILY. Awkward wording, title case versus sentence case, the menu board and the paper menu were both riddled with typos. My friends ordered milkshakes while I tried to decide between something with "beens" or something that was "fresh when available." There were fly strips hanging from the walls and more visible inside than out on a hot August night. I went with the chili fries, figuring it to be a safe bet. The fries may have been cut fresh with the skins on (it rubs the chili on its skin or else it gets the "catsup" again?) They were fine. The chili "beens" were mealy and overcooked, it tasted canned. I searched every bite for any errant winged insects but luckily only found a stray hair. My companions said their milkshakes were "fine" but didn't seem worth nearly $5. Ashley's milkshake was the wrong flavor twice- the lady didn't seem to write down what she wanted when she passed the order on. Condiments were stocked in a mini fridge just outside. It looked like someone's house was attached to the cafe. It was a little strange eating just outside someone's screen door while they were inside watching tv. All in all it was "fine." Nothing to write home about. Hopefully a fluke due to the weather, the time of day, and the crowd of 5 customers behind us.

My husband and I came upon this place while exploring the town. The picnic tables outside were crowded. We figured that was a good sign. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger and my husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger. The burgers were really good and the fries are freshly made. I enjoyed sitting outside and eating my meal. The restaurant has a small town feel. It was very enjoyable. Before we left we ordered milkshakes which were freshly made in front of us.

What a great place to pull off the highway and grab lunch. People were friendly and had pretty good and unique food (elk/ bison burgers).

Nice job, Yelp! On way back to CA from a week in Portland & we needed lunch. Drive past the casino into town & bingo. The Reviews Said To Get The Buffalo Burger AND They Were Spot on. Cooked just the way I like it (little pink)..bun was firm & condiments were just right. We hit right at the lunch rush, so things got backed up a bit...took a bit longer to get food but it was worth it. Be aware though...a little sign in the window states they will add 55 cents to use your card as payment. Seems kinds cheesy when you are spending $30+ for lunch. Overall a good lunch stop.

What a great little cafe in Cayonville. Friendly service, fresh delicious food and great prices. They have hands down the best curly fries! The have a delicious fresh lobster wrap. It's wrapped in a flour tortilla ( would prefer pita bread or something) and has a little spicy kick to it. They are easy on/off the freeway, are quick, have a bathroom and take credit/debit cards. It seems that they make their food from scratch and do not use pre-made frozen foods. Whenever I'm over that way Kens is a must for me.

It was nice to sit outside and enjoy lunch along Canyonville's Main Street. I'm 99% sure that everyone else working and eating here knew each other but they welcomed us nonetheless. We ordered a grilled cheese combo, a reuben combo and two drinks. The total was a reasonable $13. My grilled cheese was good and my honey loved his reuben. The fries were perfect. They have ketchup, thousand island, hot sauce, etc. available just inside from where you order. If you happen to be passing through, I recommend Ken's for a laid back, inexpensive and tasty meal.

Stopped in here as we were passing through on I-5 after reading good reviews. We were not disappointed! Delicious! We were pulling our 33 foot trailer behind our big diesel pickup and we quickly found street parking to accommodate our large set up. The streets around it are not too busy so we could maneuver with no problems. Easy as pie! Hubby and I both got bacon cheeseburgers and kids all got corndogs. We also had fries and onion rings. Everything was wonderful, fast and seemed very fresh. Staff was extremely friendly. Iced tea was great too. Sort of wish we had room for dessert because the ice cream looked good but we were too full! Highly recommend!

You eat outside. It was pretty good food. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger $7.09 with a side of jalepenos 25 cents extra. I paid with debit another 55 cents. I was good though. Fries are really good fries.

I work at the local casino. Today after a meeting a group of my co-workers went and had lunch here. Let me just say how great it was. Very friendly crew here, nice menu with a lot to offer. It was a nice day so we sat out at the picnic tables. They have a good amount of seating outside and looked like a good amount inside there dinging area. Food was made quick and tasted great. The fries are homemade and taste great. Will have to come back sometime.

We go here all the time during motorcycle trips. Burgers and fries are very greasy, but damn good. What do you expect from a burger shack? My kids love their food and my hubby loves their veggie burger. We ALL love their Umpqua ice cream shakes and other treats. So perfect on a hot day.

This is an awesome place! Small retro like hamburger stand... With so much more! Food is fresh and service good. The owners are there almost all the time. The atmosphere friendly. You can tell its a local favorite! If you are lucky there might even be the owners wife's tamales on the menu! They have homemade shakes that are to die for. Give it a try.. You won't be disappointed!

Fresh chicken tamales and home cut fries with the skin on - perfect quick, gluten-free road trip lunch. Have to remember this place when we're passing through next time. And the service was super friendly and fast.

We stopped for a quick bite during a road trip to Eugene. We chose Ken's because it looked to be an easy on and off the freeway location. The service was fast and friendly and the food was fantastic! The lobster wrap was filled with delicious fresh lobster seasoned with a flavorful sauce. My father-in-law had a thick milkshake that was especially yummy. 5 Stars all the way!

This place look like a whole in the wall but it has an AMAZING bacon burger... The beef was well seasoned... The fries were fresh cut and hot... So I tried the FRY SAUCE I don't know what it is but Wow I was wanting more and helped my son eat his fries because they put a to go cup of it in his bag... They have Ice cream too but I was to full to even think and tired so I will leave the great banana split for the next time I am going through this quite little town... Hats off ken keep it up... I even tipped the cook and I only do that when it's well deserved and this time it sooooo was... Thanks... Open till 9 just late enough for a late dinner...

Stopped here on my way to Portland, it was a great little place that makes a mean garden burger with very good prices. Their fries were awesome as well as my boyfriends fiesta chicken wrap. The service was great too, such a nice group of people!

The best of what makes a small town burger place special. They have great burgers including buffalo and elk. My favorite meal is the grilled chicken sandwich and their fresh made french fries. Love those fries!

Every time I go up I-5 I gotta stop here. Great hole in the wall burger stand. Fantastic home made fries and some killer fry sauce. South of the big stupid casino in the old part of town. Blink and you'll miss it. But its worth it. Pretty easy on-off I-5 too. EXIT 98

This was the perfect stop for dinner to-go on our road trip from SF to Washington, pretty close to the freeway. The kids got grilled cheese, I got a blt and my husband got a bacon cheese burger. We had to wait about 15 minutes but it was totally worth it compared to going to a fast food place.

Best grub between Grant's Pass and Roseburg, 1-minute off I-5; well worth the short detour. Easy to find on the main drag, plenty of parking. Killer reubens, BLT, burgers and fries. Local's place, family friendly and affordable, nice staff, and the busiest place in town.

Pulled over for a bite after rafting the North Umpqua...tasty burgers! The fries weren't that great, soggy & and oily. Easy place to find, easy parking, nice outdoor tables. Much better than hitting a fastfood chain, for sure. Support your local businesses.

Great little rest stop for a quick meal. The kids were hungry and we needed a place to stop. We didn't feel like mc Donald's fast food so I jumped into yelp for some help. Thank goodness for this little gem. We ordered kids grill cheese, burrito and two tamales. I've had my fare shared of tamales and I have to say these were amazing...chicken verde...yum. It's a cute corner retro shop, order food from a window . Service was fast and workers are sweet. :)

Great drive in type food! A nice break from getting food at one of the mega chain type places along I-5. There are outdoor picnic tables under a roof right in the front and there is a little grassy area next to the building with a couple more tables. Parking is not an issue and you can also stroll around Canyonville. The food is good drive in type food at a decent price. I only drive through this part of the world a couple of times a year, but when I do, I stop at Ken's if at all possible.

Ken's has my vote for the quality and taste of their food. They even have GF buns! I found it delightful to sit outside on Main Street and get a feel for Canyonville while eating a delicious meal. I had the Mushroom/Swiss burger combo, with fresh-cut fries and real iced tea with real lemon in it. Yea!

so as a non-white person with experience in a few small towns, as much as i liked the reviews and looked forward to made to order food, i was a little concerned that i'd get the "you're not from these parts" stare... but i was pleasantly surprised that the small town warmness extended to "ethnic" ppl too!

Driving on I 5 toward Seattle, hungry checked Yelp. So glad we stopped. Arrived before lunch crowd. My husband was excited about the Elk or Buffalo burgers. He settled on the ultimate patty melt, the counter guy recommended it w turkey. So amazing grilled sour dough bread, sliced turkey, melted cheese, grilled onion, peppers and mushrooms. He opted for onion rings instead of fries. Fries looked so good. Today special homemade carne asada, geeze decisions were difficult. I had the Ruben, first one I've ever had. Wow so great. Toasted Rye bread, melted cheese, pastrami, sour kraut it was a carnival in my mouth. Other friend had the mountain of carne asada nachos. Raved about them. Did I mention the food was piping hot..... They have indoor seating, but mostly outside on large picnic tables. Ice tea was very fresh great flavor, maybe it was the mountain water. Couldn't leave without splitting the fresh blackberry shake. Go, you won't be disappointed. There were travelers, locals, fire fighter fresh from Cali fires, loggers getting food.

Oh my god! I loved this place. My boyfriend and I were moving up to Oregon from Los Angeles, we decided to get off of the freeway in search of a subway or something for lunch. We happened across Ken's Sidewalk Cafe and decided to eat here for some burgers and shakes. I am so glad we did! First off, this place is a cute little stand with nice picnic tables and shade to eat outside or an air-conditioned dining room inside. We opted to eat outside since we had our cat in a crate with us. We ordered a regular cheeseburger and fries, an order of chicken tenders and fries, and an umpqua mint chip milkshake. Everything was amazing. The burger was juicy and full of flavor. Big enough to satiate our hungry road trippin' bellies. The shake was ahhhmazing and huge! The chicken tenders satisfied my craving for fried chicken. The staff was really nice and they had a good variety on the menu without it being too much. i think we payed like $20 altogether. Not bad for an awesome meal.

Fresh, Fresh, Fresh. I had the crispy chicken salad and a hamburger and fries. The fries were like homemade. Service was great. Portions are a good size.

Ditto what Cathey K. said! I had their chicken sandwich with real chicken breast (not a patty made of who-knows-what) & onion rings. Fresh bun, hot chicken, golden rings -- yum!!!

Please note the star rating is in relation to the relative options available in Canyonville ;) Saw this place while driving downtown and were drawn in by the outdoor seating, casual atmosphere, and the general 50's diner feel that exudes from this place. The staff was fabulous, great setting for people watching, and sizable number of choices on the menu. We opted to split a reuben sandwich based upon prior reviews and were not disappointed in the least. I would hardly call this the best reuben I have had, or even in the top 10, but certainly respectable. Had a worn looser pants I may have tried one of their milkshakes which seem to be the talk of this place. Will certainly go again next time we are in the area and try something else on the menu.

I don't see my previous review, so i'm writing it again because we liked this place so much! That was the best veggie burger i have had in 20 years, seriously. And the fries....fabulous. The real fruit shake was perfect, not too sweet. You gotta try this place!

Ken's intrigued me just from it's authentic retro look to its location near the casino so we tried it two weeks ago for lunch. The Reuben sandwich i had was delicious. A perfect combination of corned beef, cheese, saurkraut, rye bread and thousand island dressing. Cooked to perfection. They make their own fries and they are delicous - the soft kind. Similar to what McMenamin's used to make them like until they changed them for consistency. The owner and staff were very friendly to my wife and I. Treat yourself to a treat and eat at Ken's but remember they are closed on Sundays.

Pretty good burger and fast service. The people were very friendly and helpful. The food was pretty fast and reminded me of a typical diner but a little better. No buffalo burger like the previous review or lobster roll. Burgers and sandwiches and soup and salads. Pretty delishious salad with Italian dressing. The ice cream shakes looked amazing but it was too cold for me to have one.

Great food, great prices and even greater people. By far the best restaurant in Canyonville. The diversity of the menu and the creativity of the specials will mean that you never get tried of the menu. Parking can be a little interesting at times but it is well worth it. I highly recommend the Rueben, it is great with their homemade french fries.

Absolutely the most unique and wonderful place I have found in Oregon. If you have a dog, this is perfect. They have a lawn area with a picnic table out back with a polite sign that says "please pick up after your dog". I had the lobster roll which was great, a little chipotle for kick and a flour tortilla wrapper. There were even buffalo burgers on the menu, I had a hard time deciding what to order. The restroom was spotless. I hate to even let people in on this secret. This is going to be my favoite place to visit now on my way to Washington, and it is right off I-5.

Fast service, solidly good food, and well priced. Outdoor seating perfect for a nice day. The Ruben was great and the French fries are excellent. A good alternative to fast food and quick on and off the highway.

I cant believe there is only one review on this place! I know the town is small, but c'mon, this place deserves more than one positive Yelp review!!! We stumbled upon Ken's Sidewalk Cafe after picking through the few antique/thrift stores in town. Ken's is a small sidewalk eatery with some indoor seating, but plenty of outdoor picnic style seating. It's the kind of place where you walk up to the window to view the menu and place your order. While the menu is not broad, it does offer a nice selection of burgers, hot dogs, salads, chicken sandwiches, and wraps, etc. We ordered burgers and fries and were completely surprised and satisfied with how good the food was! Whatever you order, get it with a side of fries! OMG - really, don't miss the fries! The fries took me to a very special happy place...tasting like the darned potato was hand plucked from the warmth of mother earth that very day! Turns out, the fries are hand cut daily and they are simply delicious. Ken's also offers several selections of flavored ice cream - I did not imbibe as I was piggishly stuffed on the gorging of the fries. A good, clean, friendly, and very affordable place to fill your belly if you ever find yourself hungry in Canyonville.
