After reading the existing reviews, I am shocked to see that no one has commented on the utter lack of quality beef and skilled handling in this establishment. I am sorry to start off on the lowest note, however there were 4 of us all looking for a satisfying high end steak house on our vacation. To be clear, I allow myself to eat a steak only a few times a year so we put a lot of effort researching "said" steak house. According to the reviews, we were sure this was beef utopia. We could not have been more wrong.....sadly we were all disappointed in our choices and will not be coming back. Best thing I can say is that the kids ate their dinners even though they had to wait.....and wait.

Let's start with the positives: Children's menu is large, inexpensive, and child portion sizes are enormous. Wife ordered Linguini White Clam Sauce - she loved it. Staff was friendly. Now on to the overall experience. When we walked into the restaurant we were quickly greeted by a friendly hostess and she quickly seated us with some friendly banter. A busboy came a few minutes later and filled water glasses. Our waitress arrived a few minutes later to take our order. We ordered and she left. So far, everything seemed great! After sitting there for about 15 minutes my wife noticed other tables had bread. So as a busboy was buzzing by our table we inquired about bread, he answered with, "Yeah, I was going to get it in 3 minutes..." Apparently, you have to wait about 20 minutes before getting bread? He said it like I should have known about this tradition - so fellow Yelpers, I share this knowledge with you. Bread was delivered with an ice block of butter and a delicious salmon butter; clearly they want you to eat their salmon butter because their ice block of butter will still be here long after all of earth's glaciers have melted. First to arrive was my clam chowder. At first I was a bit surprised by it. It contained a heavy oil slick of butter which on appearance is just disgusting - so I spent the next 5 minutes mixing it in. After a few bites of the chowder I realized that it's heavy on the chowder and light on the clams... well, light on everything except the chowder because if there was anything else in this chowder they must grind it up as not to disturb the oil slick. I just couldn't get too far into this chowder and after a few bites I offered it to my wife who also passed after a bite. After 3 days passed our entrees arrived. It was at this point I had to inquire about our appetizer - our waitress a little surprised it hadn't arrived was about to tortoise sprint her way into the kitchen, I just told her to not worry about it and remove it from our bill. Let me just say, I understand why my chowder didn't have a clam in sight, they were all in my wife's Linguini - she loved it by the way. Of course, nobody at Kayo's knows how we liked our food because not a single person asked. Look, if you're going to charge on the high side for casual dining it had better rock - any slip ups, any short-comings in the food, service, or atmosphere are going to get called out because the price sort of sets the expectation. Reading other reviews before going to Kayo's also created a level of expectation that just don't seem honest. Small things, like I read a review about how child friendly they are - child friendly in what way? They certainly didn't do anything special in this regards. We even had to ask for a child friendly cup as I just don't trust my 3 year old with glass yet... In the middle of our meal I was convinced we were in the wrong place, the reviews just didn't match the experience up to that point, but alas, we were in the right place... I want to say our experience was an anomaly... but we won't be going back, there are just too many other good restaurants in Bend that seem to try harder.

Looking for a steak place that wasn't outrageously priced. Not exactly cheap but the food was good. Husband had ribs and really liked the bbq sauce. I had the prime rib which was very good. The au jus and horseradish were extra yummy. Oh and on Wednesdays you can get a big bowl of shrimp cocktail for $6 all day. Nice decor.

Kayo's is a favorite of ours. I remember eating at the old original Kayo's over 20 years ago and it's still great now. We have spent many great meals in the dining room and many times de-stressing in the lounge. The food is excellent, comparable to the Riverhouse or Tumalo Feed Company for steaks and seafood. I love that it's a nice quiet dining room and the lounge usually plays 80's music. Staff is always friendly, although occasionally short-staffed. Kayo himself comes out and says hello and asks how the food is. Drinks are good and not light on the alcohol. We will be back again and again.

I have lived in Bend for 17 years and had never tried Kayos. What a wonderful surprise! We decided to try the happy hour in the bar on a Friday night and had a fabulous experience. First of all our server Cindy was super friendly and efficient. She also gave us great recommendations. The house wine was delicious. The appetizers were over the top. We had oysters on the half shell...sweet, fresh, the ahi was the best We have ever had. The meatballs were amazing. The calamari was the lightest breaking served with a delicious sauce. Don't let the outside of the building influence you. I think that is the reason we never tried it. You will not be disappointed! I look forward to eating in the dining room

The wife had parmesean halibut and I had the Columbia River Chinook. Both were delicious. The dinner comes with your choice of rice pilaf, mashed potatoes, french fries or baked potato plus either soup or garden salad. You can also for an extra $1.50 substitute your soup or garden salad for French onion soup or caesar salad. We also ordered cheese pizza, mac and cheese and chicken tenders for our kids. We had two different waitresses, we may have come during a shift change. Our youngest was getting grumpy, so the waitress offered us some mashed potatoes to get him started. That was nice. After we placed our order they brought us some fresh bread and salmon mousse. The kids meals were huge, large enough for adults. Only negative things I can say is that as mentioned before we seemed to have arrived at a shift change because after our entrees were delivered, no one checked on us to see if our drinks needed to be refilled(which we did need) or if we needed anything else. When someone did check on us, it was another waitress, who was the one that checked on us from that time one. The other thing was the booth we were in bad some holes in it. Overall, a very good meal and we plan to return soon. The place is casual but I would say it is more on the dressy side of casual. Jeans and a button up shirt, including polo shirts would be OK but I would think that T-shirts would be out of place.

After a string of bad eat outs in Bend/Sunriver this was a breath of fresh air. Everything met or exceeded our expectations. Seared Ahi Tuna Appetizer was amazing. And of a table of not easy to please prime rib eaters they were quite satisfied with portion and taste. I recommend the crab crusted halibut. And service was impeccable! Our glasses never got past half way drank before they were filles. It is $$ but well worth it.

8 p.m. on the forth of July. we found an open restaurant. Since kayos moved I have wanted to try it. My family of 4 walked in to a half filled room. There were several tables available and nobody waiting. The hostess asked if we had a reservation? We said no. She told us there was nothing available. This place is off the beaten path as far as Bend goes, such an underrated gem because of that! It's got a really good selection of fresh seafood & fish, with some uncommon types and preparations. Everything we ordered was on point and well priced! Swordfish was amazing and crab cakes as well. Calamari app was great and the butter spread was killer! We plan on going back for sure! We had our toddlers with us and they were totally prepared with coloring books etc. great out of the popular way spot!!!!

We have driven by this restaurant for years while visiting Bend but tonight we decided to give it a try in spite of the lacklustre reviews we read before hand on yelp. What we experienced was a white tablecloth, fine dining restaurant with most dinner entrees going between $22 - $39. Our dining experience and service was very enjoyable thanks to Linda our waitress. The food was very good albeit on the high priced end. Another plus for the restaurant was the noise level was very low, unlike some of the more popular brew pubs in Bend. You could carry on a conversation easily. Next time we are in the mood for a special evening out, we will go back for the cioppino and the kobe beef.

We pulled into the parking lot and almost didn't go inside because of its appearance and location but because of the reviews we ventured in and were very glad we did. The service was impeccable, my water glass overflowed, the waitress was helpful and constantly checking on us. We had the ahi tuna appetizer, the lamb, and grilled Escobar fish fresh that day from Hawaii. All were cooked to perfection and our requests. The vegges, fresh asparagus and the carrots were not over cooked and seasoned well. The wine list was extensive. A perfect ending to a day spent hiking up black butte. Kayo runs a good ship.

First off, service was really great. We just barely sat down before the server bought out a small plate of mashed potatoes for the 10 month old Itty Bitty. Drinks were always refilled and when our entrees came out sloooooowly she was quick to apologize as the kitchen was off their game that night. Second of all, the bread and salmon mousse was yummy. And it's not even anything spectacular or even original but you can't go wrong with cream cheese and salmon in my opinion. And thirdly: I enjoyed the french onion soup. It was a little sweet but I evened it out with salt. The cheese was ooey and gooey and I enjoyed it. BD on the other hand only ate half of a cup. He's a bigger fan of french onion soup than I am and said it was just okay. They seem to prepare their salads based on the dressing you order. Moms got mandarin orange in her vinaigrette and other toppings but BD got a bunch of lettuce and olives and not much else. And he hates olives. Moms salmon was on the small thin side. I was kinda surprised. For some reason I was expecting a nice juicy hunk of fish but it looked unimpressive. She finished it but when I asked how it was she was like 'Meh'. Come on, Yelp! This is the third restaurant I picked and brought her to based on reviews and I'm losing! She's yet to be wowed! BD's steak was cooked to his liking but he didn't like the sauce that came with it.. It was very oily and garlicky but not much else. I ordered the prime rib and because i'm a big butt and maybe a closeted emotional eater, I ordered the larger choice. Size wise, I was happy. And twice as thick of a slice that I'm used to. But because I ordered it medium rare and because they don't sear prime rib like they do steak, my dish just looked like.... a slab of meat. I couldn't even cut into it, it was like unwrapping a raw steak and trying to cut it with a butter knife. Without that nice sear, I just couldn't eat it. And I've had prime rib before, always cooked at medium rare but... and I can't believe I'm complaining about this, but I think the size and thickness of the cut made it unappealing. Of course I got home and put it on a nice hot grill and it came out super tasty. So maybe i'll just stick to steak next time. Creme brulee was nice but the pistachio cheesecake was a little weird. It came out really salty but the sugared pistachio was good. And it didn't have a graham cracker crust! All in all, the general consensus was an Eh. Maybe we all ordered wrong things (the lamb chop looked appealing as did their lobster). It would be a while though before we come back and try them out.

Let's do this right people, The Bar- they have an AWESOME happy hour. If your cost conscious the bar is where you want to be. They have a dinner special every night of the week on top of their HR menu. Mondays are $2.50 burger and fries. I can't remember which day we went for a 6oz filet and fries $10 bucks. They have oysters for 50 cents and you can see Kayo shuck them right in front of you himself if your sitting at the bar. You can only get the inexpensive dinner items in the bar. And if memeory serves me right HR menu starts at 3 and lasts until 7. Yeah Buddy! Dinning Room- You can sit by a fire and have a cozy dinner experience. They have a nice variety of selections on their menu. They offer abalone either as an entree or appetizer. Can I just say that not many places can make that offer and have it be good. Kayos has done a great job with it not being over cooked and tough. Thank you Kayo. Best place I ever had it was in Halfmoon Bay in Cali so I was pleasantly surprised to find a good source for it here. I would have to say the only negative thing my husband and I can say about this place is it's a littlle dark but that hasn't prevented us from going back and enjoying our meals either in the bar econo style watching a game or enjoying a cozymeal and a glass of wine in the dinning room next to the fireplace.

We are local, for starters, and try to support the individually owned businesses in Bend. We have watched kayo's get worse over the last few months. I ordered an old fashion and it had a lime in it. Not so good with whiskey. The salad was not good....olive oil on the lettuce with blue cheese crumbles. No acid at all...no vinegar or lemon. Really bad. Our halibut Parmesan was good but $30 alacarte. Forget it, kayo....we have tried to support you , but it was the last attempt. It sucks for the price.

Having read some recent reviews here, I was concerned when I was told that we had New Years Eve reservations at Kayo's. The place was packed and my expectations were low. I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the service was little slow, but again, the place was packed - and it was only a little slow. Bread and a very mild salmon spread were served and enjoyed, appetizers and salads were very good and the entrees were excellent. It was expensive, no denying, especially with the 'Holiday Menu', but I thought there was value for the money spent - and I'm pretty cheap.

OK have now been back here weekly, for the last month. Tonight we went for the Happy Hour Lounge specials 4 to 6:30 daily. In my opinion the best happy hour deals in Bend. Pint Micros only $3.75, served in a large frosty mug. My wife had a Cosmo and lemon drop and both were the best she has had. Started our food adventure working our way down the happy hour menu, Blackened fish tacos, Cajun potato skins, peel and eat shrimp and the absolute kicker, the fried soft-shell crab. Wow what a culinary treat. We left very satisfied and will definitely be back. Had an opportunity to talk to Kayo himself and he was very interested in our satisfaction with our experience. He is constantly raising the bar and trying new things, so we can't wait to return to see what is next. Thank you Kayo.

How do you know you're at Kayo's for dinner? When the service is outstanding, the dinner is incomparable, and the Chef personally takes the time to come to your table, talk to you, tailor your dinner to your palate and make you feel welcome like no other place in Bend. My husband and I celebrated our 33rd anniversary at Kayo's Dinner House last night. I had the rack of lamb with quail sauce and Ron had the sea scallops. The salad was fresh and tasty, the lamb was melt-in-your-mouth awesome. Our server suggested a Red Knot (Australian) Shiraz for me and Rodney Strong Sauvignon Blanc for Ron. The wine enhanced the meal so much. For dessert, we had the carmel apple cheesecake. The server suggested the New York chocolate red wine to complement the cheesecake. It was an out of body experience. Thanks Kayo for a VERY special dinner. You and your staff are amazing! We'll be back again...and soon!

My wife and I are foodies and are only a couple years new to Bend. And when they say Kayos is the spot for locals they're being REAL. The food is great, their lounge is the best in town, and the friendly people you will meet in their lounge are exactly that... friendly. And when it comes to character, no one tops Kayo, he personifies the definition of hospitality. Kayo makes it his business to visit ALL his customers and make everyone feel welcome and at home. Why don't more restaurants get that they are in the "hospitality" industry! Ugh! It's the difference of being good or great! Kayo's food is great, and if we want to impress visitors from out of town, one of the first places we take our guests to is Kayos. And if you haven't been to Kayos for 50 cent oyster night then you're truly missing out, although I would prefer not to tell you. Had some of the best melt-in-your-mouth prime rib tonight (rare and wow), delicious and juicy. It was a perfect evening at Kayos on a chilly night; the fireplace was on and so was the amazing service! We enjoyed a fresh, spicy ahi tuna appetizer, followed by a lobster bisque soup and salad with fresh blue cheese crumbles before my entree.....Just when I thought I could not enjoy another bite, the luscious creme brulee lured me back in, topped with raspberries and whipped cream. My Absolut citron martini was perfectly shaken, too. Plus, the entree cost included the soup and salad so our bill was a pleasant surprise........what a wonderful, traditional dining experience in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Kayo knows his food and it is just a fun place to have dinner with friends and family!

We've visited Kayo's for happy hour on several occassions and really liked it, so decided to actually have dinner there. We were here on a Friday night without reservations and walked in about 5:30. We were seated quickly, water and bread w/salmon mousse were served. The waiter was friendly, shared his name and asked about drinks. We ordered wine off the menu and was pleasantly surprised about who quickly it was delivered. We ordered right away because we were hungry. Again, I am vegetarian so my choices were poor and few. If I didn't want pasta primaveria (again????) I had french onion soup or salad to choose from.....so the soup and salad it was. My husband ordered the 12 oz. prime rib with gouda mashed potatoes, house salad with bleu cheese dressing. His prime rib was very nice. Served with creamy horseradish, au jus and potatoes which were very good. We noticed that the meat was far larger than the 12 oz, which the waiter said was typical as they don't weigh the meat. It was so large the left overs became dinner the next night for my husband. The soup was nice, not too salty or cheesy. My salad was just okay with balsamic dressing. I thought the salmon mousse for the bread was too fishy so skipped it. We did order dessert - the berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream on the side as I also don't do dairy. The 'cobbler' portion was lacking and was mostly berries in sauce. It was good, but was like eating a bowl of hot sticky fruit. I'd definately go again and perhaps try the pasta. It's tough to be vegetarian at a place like this. My husband really liked his meal and thought the meat was very nice.

We came here because of the 2 good reviews. And I was so pleased to read the introduction to the restaurant on their website saying that the restaurant was started during the first recession to give people an affordable place to eat. What a disappointment that was! There were only a couple of entrees below $20. We were hoping for an inexpensive good meal. We would have left had we not sat down before opening the menu. Now here's something interesting, the menu online has quite a few cheaper entrees, but I swear we didn't have all those options. As for the food, it was just OK. The Cajun pasta was so spicy it was tough to eat it all at once. The ribs were pretty good, but I got one bite that had several whole peppercorns in it. The salad was big, but nothing special. The mashed potatoes sounded really interesting on the menu but in reality were just plain old mashed potatoes. The ambiance was also blah. New chairs and carpet would add a lot. My cushion on our booth felt like a saggy hotel bed and I had to scoot to the middle of the table to keep from being pulled down into a hole. If you want to have a really good meal in this same price range, I'd recommend Zydeco instead.

My parents had raved about Kayo's roadhouse several years ago when visiting from Ohio. I finally got over to visit my old college friend this summer only to find it had closed. The great news is that they opened another one! We took our three children and the five of us had a wonderful time. I am a huge Halibut and Oyster Rockefeller fan and will drive over again just for those items. My picky son devoured his lamb and we all fought over the creme brulee. The service was fun, friendly and patient as we leisurely dined,laughed and reminisced about our crazy college days.

My husband and I have eaten here several times and love it. We have shown up without reservations and have always been treated courtesly and seated promptly. The staff is friendly and helpful. The menu features many seafood and steak specialties. I've had the fried oysters twice--they were that good! I've also had the filet Oscar--also excellent. My husband also loved the filets with bearnaise sauce. The food is a good value for the money. The owner/chef visits the tables to check on his customers. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual. This place is a winner in my book!

They are still working on their new menu, better give it some time. The waitress explained how we could order a small plate and pair it up with soup or salad for a meal. One member got his soup and ate it while we watched. Then another got his salad and small plate together. When those two were completely finished we got our entrees. They sat while we ate. The waitress blamed the busboy because we didn't get bread. Food was ok but hard to be objective when the service was so poor.

Gluten Free heaven! This place is always packed, but we never seem to wait. All of their food is amazing, but we also noticed that all of the menu is almost gluten free, so celiacs have just as many options as a regular diet...to include gluten free cornbread.

They have a wide selection of delicious bar fare and the low prices mean you can try several dishes, especially if you're sharing. The mussels and Kobe meatballs were especially delicious! Their beer selection was pretty limited, especially for a bar in Bend, and they didn't have any beer specials, but if you're going for the food, you can't go wrong during happy hour.

After reading the existing reviews, I am shocked to see that no one has commented on the utter lack of quality beef and skilled handling in this establishment. I am sorry to start off on the lowest note, however there were 4 of us all looking for a satisfying high end steak house on our vacation. To be clear, I allow myself to eat a steak only a few times a year so we put a lot of effort researching "said" steak house. According to the reviews, we were sure this was beef utopia. We could not have been more wrong.....sadly we were all disappointed in our choices and will not be coming back. Best thing I can say is that the kids ate their dinners even though they had to wait.....and wait.

Let's start with the positives: Children's menu is large, inexpensive, and child portion sizes are enormous. Wife ordered Linguini White Clam Sauce - she loved it. Staff was friendly. Now on to the overall experience. When we walked into the restaurant we were quickly greeted by a friendly hostess and she quickly seated us with some friendly banter. A busboy came a few minutes later and filled water glasses. Our waitress arrived a few minutes later to take our order. We ordered and she left. So far, everything seemed great! After sitting there for about 15 minutes my wife noticed other tables had bread. So as a busboy was buzzing by our table we inquired about bread, he answered with, "Yeah, I was going to get it in 3 minutes..." Apparently, you have to wait about 20 minutes before getting bread? He said it like I should have known about this tradition - so fellow Yelpers, I share this knowledge with you. Bread was delivered with an ice block of butter and a delicious salmon butter; clearly they want you to eat their salmon butter because their ice block of butter will still be here long after all of earth's glaciers have melted. First to arrive was my clam chowder. At first I was a bit surprised by it. It contained a heavy oil slick of butter which on appearance is just disgusting - so I spent the next 5 minutes mixing it in. After a few bites of the chowder I realized that it's heavy on the chowder and light on the clams... well, light on everything except the chowder because if there was anything else in this chowder they must grind it up as not to disturb the oil slick. I just couldn't get too far into this chowder and after a few bites I offered it to my wife who also passed after a bite. After 3 days passed our entrees arrived. It was at this point I had to inquire about our appetizer - our waitress a little surprised it hadn't arrived was about to tortoise sprint her way into the kitchen, I just told her to not worry about it and remove it from our bill. Let me just say, I understand why my chowder didn't have a clam in sight, they were all in my wife's Linguini - she loved it by the way. Of course, nobody at Kayo's knows how we liked our food because not a single person asked. Look, if you're going to charge on the high side for casual dining it had better rock - any slip ups, any short-comings in the food, service, or atmosphere are going to get called out because the price sort of sets the expectation. Reading other reviews before going to Kayo's also created a level of expectation that just don't seem honest. Small things, like I read a review about how child friendly they are - child friendly in what way? They certainly didn't do anything special in this regards. We even had to ask for a child friendly cup as I just don't trust my 3 year old with glass yet... In the middle of our meal I was convinced we were in the wrong place, the reviews just didn't match the experience up to that point, but alas, we were in the right place... I want to say our experience was an anomaly... but we won't be going back, there are just too many other good restaurants in Bend that seem to try harder.

Looking for a steak place that wasn't outrageously priced. Not exactly cheap but the food was good. Husband had ribs and really liked the bbq sauce. I had the prime rib which was very good. The au jus and horseradish were extra yummy. Oh and on Wednesdays you can get a big bowl of shrimp cocktail for $6 all day. Nice decor.

Kayo's is a favorite of ours. I remember eating at the old original Kayo's over 20 years ago and it's still great now. We have spent many great meals in the dining room and many times de-stressing in the lounge. The food is excellent, comparable to the Riverhouse or Tumalo Feed Company for steaks and seafood. I love that it's a nice quiet dining room and the lounge usually plays 80's music. Staff is always friendly, although occasionally short-staffed. Kayo himself comes out and says hello and asks how the food is. Drinks are good and not light on the alcohol. We will be back again and again.

I have lived in Bend for 17 years and had never tried Kayos. What a wonderful surprise! We decided to try the happy hour in the bar on a Friday night and had a fabulous experience. First of all our server Cindy was super friendly and efficient. She also gave us great recommendations. The house wine was delicious. The appetizers were over the top. We had oysters on the half shell...sweet, fresh, the ahi was the best We have ever had. The meatballs were amazing. The calamari was the lightest breaking served with a delicious sauce. Don't let the outside of the building influence you. I think that is the reason we never tried it. You will not be disappointed! I look forward to eating in the dining room

The wife had parmesean halibut and I had the Columbia River Chinook. Both were delicious. The dinner comes with your choice of rice pilaf, mashed potatoes, french fries or baked potato plus either soup or garden salad. You can also for an extra $1.50 substitute your soup or garden salad for French onion soup or caesar salad. We also ordered cheese pizza, mac and cheese and chicken tenders for our kids. We had two different waitresses, we may have come during a shift change. Our youngest was getting grumpy, so the waitress offered us some mashed potatoes to get him started. That was nice. After we placed our order they brought us some fresh bread and salmon mousse. The kids meals were huge, large enough for adults. Only negative things I can say is that as mentioned before we seemed to have arrived at a shift change because after our entrees were delivered, no one checked on us to see if our drinks needed to be refilled(which we did need) or if we needed anything else. When someone did check on us, it was another waitress, who was the one that checked on us from that time one. The other thing was the booth we were in bad some holes in it. Overall, a very good meal and we plan to return soon. The place is casual but I would say it is more on the dressy side of casual. Jeans and a button up shirt, including polo shirts would be OK but I would think that T-shirts would be out of place.

Stopped in the Lounge since it was just across the lot from where we were staying. I was expecting the inside to match the look of the outside of the building, but was pleasantly surprised, there was nice low lighting, table cloth covered tables, and nice décor. Service was friendly, and the Happy Hour Menu was FANTASTIC! They have a LARGE selection to choose from, we got the fish & chips (3 large pieces of cod), 3 fish tacos, shrimp cocktail (LARGE serving!), and the coconut shrimp with sweet chili sauce (6 pieces!) all $5 each!! also...their lemon drops were GREAT! Next time we're in bend we will stop in again!!

After a string of bad eat outs in Bend/Sunriver this was a breath of fresh air. Everything met or exceeded our expectations. Seared Ahi Tuna Appetizer was amazing. And of a table of not easy to please prime rib eaters they were quite satisfied with portion and taste. I recommend the crab crusted halibut. And service was impeccable! Our glasses never got past half way drank before they were filles. It is $$ but well worth it.

8 p.m. on the forth of July. we found an open restaurant. Since kayos moved I have wanted to try it. My family of 4 walked in to a half filled room. There were several tables available and nobody waiting. The hostess asked if we had a reservation? We said no. She told us there was nothing available. This place is off the beaten path as far as Bend goes, such an underrated gem because of that! It's got a really good selection of fresh seafood & fish, with some uncommon types and preparations. Everything we ordered was on point and well priced! Swordfish was amazing and crab cakes as well. Calamari app was great and the butter spread was killer! We plan on going back for sure! We had our toddlers with us and they were totally prepared with coloring books etc. great out of the popular way spot!!!!

We have driven by this restaurant for years while visiting Bend but tonight we decided to give it a try in spite of the lacklustre reviews we read before hand on yelp. What we experienced was a white tablecloth, fine dining restaurant with most dinner entrees going between $22 - $39. Our dining experience and service was very enjoyable thanks to Linda our waitress. The food was very good albeit on the high priced end. Another plus for the restaurant was the noise level was very low, unlike some of the more popular brew pubs in Bend. You could carry on a conversation easily. Next time we are in the mood for a special evening out, we will go back for the cioppino and the kobe beef.

The service was impeccable, my water glass overflowed, the waitress was helpful and constantly checking on us. We had the ahi tuna appetizer, the lamb, and grilled Escobar fish fresh that day from Hawaii. All were cooked to perfection and our requests. The vegges, fresh asparagus and the carrots were not over cooked and seasoned well. The wine list was extensive. A perfect ending to a day spent hiking up black butte. Kayo runs a good ship.

First off, service was really great. We just barely sat down before the server bought out a small plate of mashed potatoes for the 10 month old Itty Bitty. Drinks were always refilled and when our entrees came out sloooooowly she was quick to apologize as the kitchen was off their game that night. Second of all, the bread and salmon mousse was yummy. And it's not even anything spectacular or even original but you can't go wrong with cream cheese and salmon in my opinion. And thirdly: I enjoyed the french onion soup. It was a little sweet but I evened it out with salt. The cheese was ooey and gooey and I enjoyed it. BD on the other hand only ate half of a cup. He's a bigger fan of french onion soup than I am and said it was just okay. They seem to prepare their salads based on the dressing you order. Moms got mandarin orange in her vinaigrette and other toppings but BD got a bunch of lettuce and olives and not much else. And he hates olives. Moms salmon was on the small thin side. I was kinda surprised. For some reason I was expecting a nice juicy hunk of fish but it looked unimpressive. She finished it but when I asked how it was she was like 'Meh'. Come on, Yelp! This is the third restaurant I picked and brought her to based on reviews and I'm losing! She's yet to be wowed! BD's steak was cooked to his liking but he didn't like the sauce that came with it.. It was very oily and garlicky but not much else. I ordered the prime rib and because i'm a big butt and maybe a closeted emotional eater, I ordered the larger choice. Size wise, I was happy. And twice as thick of a slice that I'm used to. But because I ordered it medium rare and because they don't sear prime rib like they do steak, my dish just looked like.... a slab of meat. I couldn't even cut into it, it was like unwrapping a raw steak and trying to cut it with a butter knife. Without that nice sear, I just couldn't eat it. And I've had prime rib before, always cooked at medium rare but... and I can't believe I'm complaining about this, but I think the size and thickness of the cut made it unappealing. Of course I got home and put it on a nice hot grill and it came out super tasty. So maybe i'll just stick to steak next time. Creme brulee was nice but the pistachio cheesecake was a little weird. It came out really salty but the sugared pistachio was good. And it didn't have a graham cracker crust! All in all, the general consensus was an Eh. Maybe we all ordered wrong things (the lamb chop looked appealing as did their lobster). It would be a while though before we come back and try them out.

Let's do this right people, The Bar- they have an AWESOME happy hour. If your cost conscious the bar is where you want to be. They have a dinner special every night of the week on top of their HR menu. Mondays are $2.50 burger and fries. I can't remember which day we went for a 6oz filet and fries $10 bucks. They have oysters for 50 cents and you can see Kayo shuck them right in front of you himself if your sitting at the bar. You can only get the inexpensive dinner items in the bar. And if memeory serves me right HR menu starts at 3 and lasts until 7. Yeah Buddy! Dinning Room- You can sit by a fire and have a cozy dinner experience. They have a nice variety of selections on their menu. They offer abalone either as an entree or appetizer. Can I just say that not many places can make that offer and have it be good. Kayos has done a great job with it not being over cooked and tough. Thank you Kayo. Best place I ever had it was in Halfmoon Bay in Cali so I was pleasantly surprised to find a good source for it here. I would have to say the only negative thing my husband and I can say about this place is it's a littlle dark but that hasn't prevented us from going back and enjoying our meals either in the bar econo style watching a game or enjoying a cozymeal and a glass of wine in the dinning room next to the fireplace.

We are local, for starters, and try to support the individually owned businesses in Bend. We have watched kayo's get worse over the last few months. I ordered an old fashion and it had a lime in it. Not so good with whiskey. The salad was not good....olive oil on the lettuce with blue cheese crumbles. No acid at all...no vinegar or lemon. Really bad. Our halibut Parmesan was good but $30 alacarte. Forget it, kayo....we have tried to support you , but it was the last attempt. It sucks for the price.

Having read some recent reviews here, I was concerned when I was told that we had New Years Eve reservations at Kayo's. The place was packed and my expectations were low. I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the service was little slow, but again, the place was packed - and it was only a little slow. Bread and a very mild salmon spread were served and enjoyed, appetizers and salads were very good and the entrees were excellent. It was expensive, no denying, especially with the 'Holiday Menu', but I thought there was value for the money spent - and I'm pretty cheap.

OK have now been back here weekly, for the last month. Tonight we went for the Happy Hour Lounge specials 4 to 6:30 daily. In my opinion the best happy hour deals in Bend. Pint Micros only $3.75, served in a large frosty mug. My wife had a Cosmo and lemon drop and both were the best she has had. Started our food adventure working our way down the happy hour menu, Blackened fish tacos, Cajun potato skins, peel and eat shrimp and the absolute kicker, the fried soft-shell crab. Wow what a culinary treat. We left very satisfied and will definitely be back. Had an opportunity to talk to Kayo himself and he was very interested in our satisfaction with our experience. He is constantly raising the bar and trying new things, so we can't wait to return to see what is next. Thank you Kayo.

How do you know you're at Kayo's for dinner? When the service is outstanding, the dinner is incomparable, and the Chef personally takes the time to come to your table, talk to you, tailor your dinner to your palate and make you feel welcome like no other place in Bend. My husband and I celebrated our 33rd anniversary at Kayo's Dinner House last night. I had the rack of lamb with quail sauce and Ron had the sea scallops. The salad was fresh and tasty, the lamb was melt-in-your-mouth awesome. Our server suggested a Red Knot (Australian) Shiraz for me and Rodney Strong Sauvignon Blanc for Ron. The wine enhanced the meal so much. For dessert, we had the carmel apple cheesecake. The server suggested the New York chocolate red wine to complement the cheesecake. It was an out of body experience. Thanks Kayo for a VERY special dinner. You and your staff are amazing! We'll be back again...and soon!

My wife and I are foodies and are only a couple years new to Bend. And when they say Kayos is the spot for locals they're being REAL. The food is great, their lounge is the best in town, and the friendly people you will meet in their lounge are exactly that... friendly. And when it comes to character, no one tops Kayo, he personifies the definition of hospitality. Kayo makes it his business to visit ALL his customers and make everyone feel welcome and at home. Why don't more restaurants get that they are in the "hospitality" industry! Ugh! It's the difference of being good or great! Kayo's food is great, and if we want to impress visitors from out of town, one of the first places we take our guests to is Kayos. And if you haven't been to Kayos for 50 cent oyster night then you're truly missing out, although I would prefer not to tell you. LOL Oh and of course if you are a tourist looking for a "local spot" look no further. Kayos rules bend in the world of culinary delights...

Had some of the best melt-in-your-mouth prime rib tonight (rare and wow), delicious and juicy. It was a perfect evening at Kayos on a chilly night; the fireplace was on and so was the amazing service! We enjoyed a fresh, spicy ahi tuna appetizer, followed by a lobster bisque soup and salad with fresh blue cheese crumbles before my entree.....Just when I thought I could not enjoy another bite, the luscious creme brulee lured me back in, topped with raspberries and whipped cream. My Absolut citron martini was perfectly shaken, too. Plus, the entree cost included the soup and salad so our bill was a pleasant surprise........what a wonderful, traditional dining experience in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Kayo knows his food and it is just a fun place to have dinner with friends and family!

We've visited Kayo's for happy hour on several occassions and really liked it, so decided to actually have dinner there. We were here on a Friday night without reservations and walked in about 5:30. We were seated quickly, water and bread w/salmon mousse were served. The waiter was friendly, shared his name and asked about drinks. We ordered wine off the menu and was pleasantly surprised about who quickly it was delivered. We ordered right away because we were hungry. Again, I am vegetarian so my choices were poor and few. If I didn't want pasta primaveria (again????) I had french onion soup or salad to choose from.....so the soup and salad it was. My husband ordered the 12 oz. prime rib with gouda mashed potatoes, house salad with bleu cheese dressing. His prime rib was very nice. Served with creamy horseradish, au jus and potatoes which were very good. We noticed that the meat was far larger than the 12 oz, which the waiter said was typical as they don't weigh the meat. It was so large the left overs became dinner the next night for my husband. The soup was nice, not too salty or cheesy. My salad was just okay with balsamic dressing. I thought the salmon mousse for the bread was too fishy so skipped it. We did order dessert - the berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream on the side as I also don't do dairy. The 'cobbler' portion was lacking and was mostly berries in sauce. It was good, but was like eating a bowl of hot sticky fruit. I'd definately go again and perhaps try the pasta. It's tough to be vegetarian at a place like this. My husband really liked his meal and thought the meat was very nice.

Don't let the exterior detour you - this place is excellent. Inside is warm and elegant, the menu looked so good we couldn't decide. We ended up with four appetizers - yum! We came here because of the 2 good reviews. And I was so pleased to read the introduction to the restaurant on their website saying that the restaurant was started during the first recession to give people an affordable place to eat. What a disappointment that was! There were only a couple of entrees below $20. We were hoping for an inexpensive good meal. We would have left had we not sat down before opening the menu. Now here's something interesting, the menu online has quite a few cheaper entrees, but I swear we didn't have all those options. As for the food, it was just OK. The Cajun pasta was so spicy it was tough to eat it all at once. The ribs were pretty good, but I got one bite that had several whole peppercorns in it. The salad was big, but nothing special. The mashed potatoes sounded really interesting on the menu but in reality were just plain old mashed potatoes. The ambiance was also blah. New chairs and carpet would add a lot. My cushion on our booth felt like a saggy hotel bed and I had to scoot to the middle of the table to keep from being pulled down into a hole. If you want to have a really good meal in this same price range, I'd recommend Zydeco instead.

My parents had raved about Kayo's roadhouse several years ago when visiting from Ohio. I finally got over to visit my old college friend this summer only to find it had closed. The great news is that they opened another one! We took our three children and the five of us had a wonderful time. I am a huge Halibut and Oyster Rockefeller fan and will drive over again just for those items. My picky son devoured his lamb and we all fought over the creme brulee. The service was fun, friendly and patient as we leisurely dined,laughed and reminisced about our crazy college days.

The menu features many seafood and steak specialties. I've had the fried oysters twice--they were that good! I've also had the filet Oscar--also excellent. My husband also loved the filets with bearnaise sauce. The food is a good value for the money. The owner/chef visits the tables to check on his customers. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual. This place is a winner in my book!

They are still working on their new menu, better give it some time. The waitress explained how we could order a small plate and pair it up with soup or salad for a meal. One member got his soup and ate it while we watched. Then another got his salad and small plate together. When those two were completely finished we got our entrees. They sat while we ate. The waitress blamed the busboy because we didn't get bread. Food was ok but hard to be objective when the service was so poor.

Gluten Free heaven! This place is always packed, but we never seem to wait. All of their food is amazing, but we also noticed that all of the menu is almost gluten free, so celiacs have just as many options as a regular diet...to include gluten free cornbread.

I'd been wanting to try Kayo's bar menu during happy hour and was not disappointed! They have a wide selection of delicious bar fare and the low prices mean you can try several dishes, especially if you're sharing. The mussels and Kobe meatballs were especially delicious! Their beer selection was pretty limited, especially for a bar in Bend, and they didn't have any beer specials, but if you're going for the food, you can't go wrong during happy hour.
