Togos - you probably know what to expect - sandwiches - lots of them - made fresh, on fresh bread, to order. The ingredients are fresh, tasty and there is a wide selection of meats, cheeses, veggies and dressings. Although you wont find it advertised, you can get any sandwich toasted - which is important to me. I want to shout out to the folks that work there, the customer service is really heads and shoulders above the rest and the reason I think this place really deserves 5 stars. I think they do a better job than the other two national chains I'm familiar with on all major fronts - selection, quality, taste, service, staff, setting, price and I will be going back again.

Togo's has been around for years but recently has changed ownership. It's been an improvement. Great food, super fast, huge portions and very affordable. I like their soups and chili as well. Dining seating area has improved and they added some flat screens. It's busier than it used to be but the pastrami sandwich is awesome. They're open till 7-8pm so you can pick up some dinner after work.

Excellent customer service. Nothing to say about their food at this time but their excellent customer service has made me decide to give it a 2nd try before writing a final review.

I love me a good sandwich. And who doesn't. I've been here about 5 times in about 5 months and the sandwiches are consistent. The service is great and they make the sandwiches the right way... Load them up and pile high.

  • Scott B.

Ive been back since... In general the service is much improved... The new replacements that really brought down the quality, are gone... The new new people, make a decent sandwich. The bread, is not as good as it was, but I think thats a corporate issue, not the local..

3 stars seems punitive, 4 stars seems extravagant, but what the heck. The place was clean (even though the BRs were outside, gas-station style, the main dining area), the service fast and courteous, and the prices reasonable. I don't consider their pastrami (or even their pastrami w/the pepperoncinis and pepperjack cheese) in the running for 'best of' in the region--- but they're good enough to consider going back for, so they get the bump up to 4 great big ole stars. Ole'!

  • Liz K.

Love, love their sandwiches! Their pastrami is unmatched in the fast-food realm, and their turkey w/avocado is amazing. Also, I love that they're now offering gluten-free wraps (hey, I hate being gluten free, but this makes it easier). My only knock: the service is often slow and inefficient. It's clear not everyone is well-trained.

TOGOS has been around for a long time. In fact when I was relocated to Southern Cal for a bit I would have a TOGOS about once a week and found them to be a good sandwich shop. But here I don't know they are ok but you have many better choices around than this. The bread is always hard likes it's been sitting out way to long the toppings are good but sometimes its like they have prepped the items way to long ago and you see slimey meat or like the BBQ Beef Sandwich I had last time, they went in the back and got some that was in the refer and microwaved it for 4 minutes. This was 4pm you would think they would have it in with the other warm meats. The old owner watch his group like a hawk making sure they did not put on too much of anything on the sandwiches and always acted kind of grumpy, the new owner seems to run a more friendly operation but the quality is just so-so. Prices are high for what you get and with other better choices I will make a run for them instead.

I CRAVE THIS PLACE ALL THE TIME. we had 'em all over the bay area in california, and I am SOOO GLAD that this location is close to me, considering its the only location in all of oregon! The boys all go for the pastrami (it tastes amazing) but my favorite is avocado and turkey, no tomatoes, extra mayo, please and thank you.

I'm a San Jose native, so like others, I miss Togo's now that I live near Portland. In the Bay Area, we had Togo's, Quiznos, and Subway and I honestly never understood why the other two existed when Togo's is so far superior. The selection is awesome and they do not skimp on the fillings. If you set a regular Quiznos next to a regular Togo's, you'd laugh at the mini-me version that Quiznos tries to be. Anyway, I couldn't give this place 5 stars because it was staffed by the most lackluster employees I've ever seen. The lady making my sandwich was staring off over my shoulder the entire time she made my sandwich. The bread did not taste fresh and she did not dress it the way it is normally dressed. The cashier didn't offer a single greeting (and I was the only one at the counter). You'd NEVER get that kind of stale service at any Togo's in California. They are well trained and well-set-up machines down there. Friendly, fast and efficient elsewhere. So this one needs to shape up or it'll give Togo's a bad name, but the sandwiches still outrank the other chains any day.

I've been eating Togo's sandwiches for about 35 years, and they're still putting out quality food at reasonable prices. This location is the only one in the Pacific Northwest, not too far from downtown Portland, but worth the short for a great lunch or dinner.

I love this place!!! Every time i have been i always get the most amazing customer service!! Seriously guys!! My favorite is the turkey with avocado, and if i'm feeling extra sassy i'll add some bacon into the mix. They make the most delightful sandwiches with wonderful customer service! YAY!

    (5)
  • Marilyn S.

Meh. I'd rather have Jimmy John's any day. Togo's bread isn't nearly as good. That's the killer. Fillings are almost as good, except the Italian meats. Just not quite there. And I'm not a fan of Italian dressing on my subs! Oil and vinegar, people, that's how it's done. Another ding - I ordered for pickup, and my order wasn't ready until 10 minutes after the specified time. Maybe understandable if I'd ordered recently and the place was busy. Nope. I had ordered over an hour beforehand, and the place only had 1 customer in it. I can order JJ's and get it delivered at my house in 10 minutes flat. Womp womp.

I grew up on Togo's (yes, I am from California - born in Santa Cruz which, if memory serves me right, boasted the second Togo's shop that opened in 1974?). Everyone is an expert in sub sandwiches (I have come to find) so what one person comes to declare is a masterpiece is another person's worst nightmare. For me, there is something about their sandwiches that evokes a bevvy of memories from my past, all of them seem to be great memories. Having been in Oregon for more than 11 years, I was thrilled to find that the ONLY Togo's in the state was in Beaverton. If you're in the San Francisco Bay Area these sub joints are everywhere. But the centerpiece of the Togo's Sandwich empire? #9 baby... Hot Mutha F-ing Pastrami... I've been to some pretty fancy joints and have devoured my fair share of premium, overpriced, succulent pastrami from locally sourced & cured in-house to 'where the hell did this meat come from?' and I don't know what it is... but... this pastrami is so good it makes me salivate just writing about it. Give it a try. What's the worst that could happen? I suppose you could hate it, or you might find it to be lackluster. I doubt it though.

The family stopped in for lunch today, and sandwiches were found to be enjoyable - ingredients were fresh and to Togo's standards. This location appears to be very old - maybe even reincarnated from some choke-and-puke in a former life. Seemed a bit on the run-down and dirty side, even though the fare was what we have been accustomed to from Togo's. Here was the problem. Three small sized and one regular sized sandwiches, 2 children's 8 oz. drinks and 2-20 oz. drinks with four bagged chips was $29. My children both had 3-items MAX each on their sandwiches, wife had the special, mine was #28. Just me? Maybe, but it seems high. Go in, get a sandwich, drink water and no chips. You might be able to get change back from your ten-spot.

As a NorCal- Portland transplant I've always loved that my favorite sandwich shop is still never too far away. I've been coming here for years and recently have been having more and more issues with my orders. Chris is great, and always does it right. The past few times I've gotten other people, though, and they completely take advantage of the fact that the counter is too tall to see over. #30 with avocado. I've got my order down to a science. So when cheddar cheese makes a random appearance in my sandwich without absolutely zero communication ahead of time about cheese or even cheese preference, I have to wonder what's going on back there behind that counter. I give the company a 5-star and this location 3. Oh, I also have to mention how much it throws me off when their hours get shorter every winter. Probably once a year I get out there only to see the dreaded Closed sign.

  • Kimberly G.

Every sandwich looks amazing here, but I am sure I will never find out if that's true or not because I can not bring myself to order anything other than the #9 hot pastrami. The sandwich is delicious and the staff fun and friendly while they make it. They are always happy to make it exactly how you want it. Large portions, quality ingredients and clean restaurant.

I love Togo's BUT the NASTY ASH TRAY that sits right in front of the door is not only in the way of opening the door it's just plain gross! Too bad they don't have a smoking rule of being 10 feet away from the front door where the ASH TRAY should be.

  • Mona B.

I've been coming here for years and (knock on wood) never had a bad experience. Their #9 pastrami is my favorite and I like that they're generous with the meat :) In addition to the pastrami sandwich, what i love about this place is the fact that they don't treat you any differently when you use coupons (groupon and such deals) - I've been here with and without coupons and I've always gotten prompt, friendly service. Today was no exception - nothing better than friendly service & good food! FYI - while my sandwich was getting made, a guy came in to pick his online order. Hey, I think I'm going to try that next time!

    (4)
  • Erika A.

I got the Santa Fe Chicken wrap with some dressing on the side and it was heaven. I haven't tried a sandwich yet due to my 1st experience. I met the owner Dave, nice guy btw, and said they use local bread from Portland which is much denser then what Togo's usually uses. Unfortunately I can't compare my usually wheat bread with their local Portland bakery just yet, but I will be back to try a sandwich. I recommend ordering online as it's much faster.

The ordering system inside the restaurant is strange with no line or specific place to take your order. Turkey avocado sandwich is good with lots of avocado and fresh bread. Staff was friendly. Would rate 3.5 stars if I could. Sandwich is good but ordering seemed to be confusing.

I returned to Portland after 13 years away, living on the east coast. One of the first places I went (and was so thankful to find was still there!) was Togo's. I've lived in Europe, Boston, Cincinnati, Richmond, and I've been to every state in the USA, and there is still no better sandwich place, as far as I'm concerned. #1, of choose is the sandwich itself. Somehow, all the ingredients go in the bread and stay there. Avocado doesn't fly out, taking turkey and mayo with it. It stays put. And it's good. The ingredients are fresh and tasty. #2, most of the employees engage in conversation with the customer. They seem genuinely interested in what they are asking and saying. They're engaged. I like that. The newest chick isn't as good at that, but I think she'll catch up. She seems nice, and she builds a good sandwich. In sum, I craved these sandwiches for over a decade, and even though I live in Sellwood, I love the opportunity to get over there and get my 9 inches of sandwich glory. Thanks for making a good sandwich, Togo's! Oh, and there is wifi and sugar free flavored iced tea, too. I love those things.

Above standard sandwich shop. I had the toasted pastrami. A great grub sandwich and very messy. It was great. Try this place if you want a step up from Subway but don't want to make the drive into Portland.

  • Michael B.

Had a very good toasted Pastrami sandwich here that was large enough to feed two people for $7. I'll return soon to try another of their yummy looking sandwiches.

  • Erik R.

I love this place. My wife always gets the Santa Fe Chicken wrap, and I alternate between the roast beef dip, hot pastrami, and the Italian. I think the bread is far better than any of the other sandwich shops I've tried outside of downtown. My only complaints are that the inside is sometimes too cold and the sandwiches are sometimes more meaty than I'm in the mood for.

    (5)
  • Lauren B.

Great sandwiches and service. They are always so friendly, and their ingredients are always fresh. They have a wide variety of options to choose from as well. I highly recommend this place. It's kind of far out there for Portlanders, but definitely worth the trip.

  • Jim B.

Sorta good, this time. Okay - maybe it was my fault, I was picky. Probably irritated the counter help, even so, they were pretty nice. Heck, I would have sneered at me too - for the special order. Oh well... The sandwich was made to order by my specs. +1 to them for that. However, the flavor of the sauce was not really BBQ, and it didn't work well with the chicken. Last time I had the meatball sandwich- and that is silly good. I'll try again, and give them an easy sandwich next time. They're very nice people who tried hard. Blame the 3 star on me for being fussy.

Best sandwich chain EVER. Let me start off by saying I grew up in downtown San Jose right by SJSU and the first Togo's. I then moved to the Santa Teresa area and had another Togo's in the nearest shopping center. After that, I was forced to move to Henderson, NV, and watch the Togo's commercials on TV when there wasn't a single Togo's within a few hours of driving. HORRIBLE! My aunt and uncle love it so much that they would make us bring a bunch of Togo's sandwiches on ice either on our plane or on the 10+ hour drive. I discovered this Togo's location because that very same aunt, along with my mother, mentioned Togo's shortly before visiting me. We went here and ordered extra sandwiches to snack on for the next day or so. The #9 is BETTER THAN I REMEMBER! The staff is friendly and the owner is super cool. His kids are graduating from an awesome college in the Bay Area, where my aunt went, and it felt like I was back at my original Togo's getting my favorite sandwich. I can't wait to take my boyfriend here. It'll be like Subway and Quiznos never existed.

PASTRAMI. Yeah, that's right, HOT PASTRAMI. That's their main lure and it's totally worth it. It's artery glogging, oil dripping goodness. Togo's isn't kidding when they say packed sammies - yup, it's full to the prim. I haven't found anything better. The minus point is that they can be...slow. I mean like snails pace. Like, if you're starving you could just die. But that's really my only complaint.

    (4)
  • Bri M.

DELICIOUS subs! Literally the only place ill get a sub sandwich. The only downer is that they are soo napkin stingy its ridiculous. In order to obtain one you must fight the crowd and ask someone behind the counter. You'd think a $12 meal would entitle you to easily cleaning your hands afterwards... think again...

    (3)
  • Adam C.

Huge sandwiches! Maybe takes a bit depending what you get but totally worth it. I recommend Pastrami..................and now Im drooling

    (4)
  • Jesy B.

Mmmm, Togo's. I want to eat a sammy from here just clicking on the link. So, we were in search of a place that had a good pastrami sammich. If I remember who told us about Togo's, I'd be tempted to kiss them. Now, the pastrami wasn't for me but I'm up to try anything new and I do like a sandwich. I should also add I LOVE Avocado. L-O-V-E. I'm 80% more inclined to order something if that little gem is in it. The fact that their turkey & avocado comes stuffed with avocado simply sends me to green heaven. I always get it on the onion herb bread, which is a taste bud in a delight itself. I also nibbled their famous pastrami and it sure is tasty. Service can be slow because it gets hecka busy but it's totally worth it. Never setting foot into a Subway again!

    (5)
  • Mel E.

Amen to the Togo's sandwich. Quiznos is OK. Subway seems generic. But Togo's...it's the real deal. I love the turkey and cranberry and the egg salad. And, if I'm feeling like an artery clogger, I'll go for hot pastrami. I love their sandwiches and am glad to see something to remind me of home.

This is a really great sandwich shop. I have been coming to Togo's for years. They have closed many down in the Portland area. I have to go all the way into Beaverton which is about 30 miles one way for me. I think it is well worth it. They truly put Subway to shame. The sandwich is a bit larger then you would get there too. I am a fan of the #9 Pastrami. I want a sandwich that is not all bread but has some filling. I would say the portions are probably about double the amount you would get somewhere else. My family also loves the turkey avocado. Bread always tastes soft and fresh. Veggies are crisp and crunchy and fresh as well. For a filling sandwich try the regular 6' sub but if you are famished and didn't eat breakfast then the 9" Large should do you in for sure. They have combos if you want a full meal too. Price is relative to the other guys I would say. Somewhere between $4.50 -$5 for a regular and $7.50-$8 for a large. Their people are always so nice and helpful. The dining area is clean. They have outdoor seating as well. Restrooms are in the back behind the building. The only thing I noticed at this last visit yesterday...they are putting a little less yummy fillings then they used to. I know this only because I have been coming here for years about 2-3x a year. Even with that-they are still way better then the other guys. Oh, keep your eyes peeled for Groupons. You can even get coupons for 50% off. Check them out.

    (4)
  • Nick M.

This is a great sandwich shop. You really get the local feel when your there, not like subway and the other large sandwich shops. The staff are very friendly. I had the turkey club and potato soup. Both, full of flavor and fresh. I went there because of Groupon and will be back very soon. Just keep your eyes open when your headed there or you will pass it.

Nice to see this chain in town, I have checked them out in California in the past. I like how they cut the veggies to order and feel like you can always get a pretty good value out of their specials of the day. salads ant shabby either.

  • Michael B.

The new ownership now has its act together. Instead of being beligerant with the new owner over the "Buy 10 get 1 free" issue, I sat down with him and explained why I thought it was a bad business move. They've since changed their policy so that every sandwich gets a credit. Yes, there were growing pains with new management, but they've got it together again. Same great sandwiches, same fast service, and an owner who listens to criticism and takes action. It's still the best roast beef and pastrami in town.

  • Leah H.

The moment I set foot into, smell, eat, or even think of Togo's - I am suddenly transported into a memory as a child of visiting family in California, stopping by Togo's to grab some sandwiches to go, and heading to the beach. This is of course back when I ate turkey, onion, and lettuce sandwiches. I've evolved since those days. I'm not even sure if that plain sandwich was amazing but at that time, it tasted so different then what I was used to...it was something special. Unfortunately, it is easy to forget that Togo's exists out there on BHH. Of course, when I do remember I am always pleased to get a hot pastrami, extra peppers. And while this is no Kenny and Zukes pastrami...it holds its own in an entirely different way.

This is my favorite sandwich chain in the country. I grew up in San Jose, so my perception of this place is fairly biased. We take a few blindfolded locals out here every once in a while and they enjoy it. Unless you're a vegetarian, get the #9... Togo's is famous for their pastrami. It isn't like New York pastrami, but it's really high up there, especially for a chain. It's probably the best subway-style pastrami I've ever had. One little gripe I have is that it's pretty obvious the pastrami here is shipped from (most likely) California, though. It's slightly greasier than the Togo's in California, but this is the only Togo's that's still open in the Portland area, so I'm not really complaining. Still, if you moved from California and feel a little homesick, you should definitely stop by here. They have the whole 9 yards as far as sandwich selection; the menu is identical to the menu of the Togo's across from San Jose State University, where it all started. George (the owner of this particular restaurant) is nice too! ;)

the food at Togos is much better than subway. Now that i have said that i want to talk about the owner. i have never seen an owner miss treat their staff like the man that owns this Togos. he is rude and very disrespectful. no wonder every time you go in there you will see new faces, except i don't go there anymore because of the owner.

    (1)
  • Nobu D.

The new management is great. The staff are really friendly and accommodating. Specific kudos are required for Chris - he always greets me by name and gets my order right, substitutions and all. The menu is pretty standard for all other Togos (i.e pretty awesome and tasty) and the veggies are always fresh and crisp. I visit at least once a week.

  • Melissa W.

This is a well known Northern California staple sandwhich shop. My one complaint and it's a BIG ONE... they do NOT have regulation ToGo's bread. They buy their bread locally so it is NOT like an authentic ToGo's experience. Sorry #24 lovers....this ain't it. On the other hand they serve a good sandwhich. The egg salad is quite tasty with no icky raw onions or other weird stuff in the way.

Consistently fresh, large, clean sandwiches. What more can you ask for from a chain sandwich joint?

    (4)
  • Aj B.

San Jose togos orginal. Grew up stuffing my face with Hot #7 (roast beef) it was so good. Better than I remember considering I have been up here in oregonia for about 3 years. the only difference I can note is the bread is not the standard made in San Jose bread, BUT I found it to be better as it didn't get soggy on the 10 minute car ride home( which is usually to be the case with Togo's "regulation" bread. So good better than any chain sammy shops.

    (5)
  • Brian M.

Of all the sandwich places...this is my favorite. My two standard sandwhiches here are the meatball and the #9 hot pastrami. Add excellent service from the family that owns it. You have a great place to get a good sandwich.

    (5)
  • Alex P.

Ahhh, thank god! I have never seen or heard of a Togo's outside of California, and it was greatly missed when I lived in Las Vegas. By far the best "fast-food" sandwich chain on the planet. Port 'o Subs, Subway, Quiznos all pale in comparison to the mighty Togo's. Avoid Tuna, its gives you mercury poisoning!

  • chelley L.

What a suprise to find a san jose chain sandwich shop in the middle of beaverton! i used to miss togo's until i found this location, but not anymore! when you walk in the store, you smell meat. the counters are so tall you need to be on your tipy-toes to see them putting your sandwich together. pick up a paper menu choose the sandwich number and the bread and let them know how you want it (kinda like subway, but bigger). downside: they dont have honey wheat bread. BIG SADFACE!

    (4)
  • David R.

Still not sure why the Togo's chain hasn't yet come up to Portland and completely dominated the far-inferior Subway. As far as quality, it's not even a contest.
