Ok, this was our go to joint since it's so close to home, and liked by the whole fam but we haven't been there for a few weeks due to them jacking up their prices on food and drinks ($2 increase for well drinks, hello?!) Boycott aside they are good- they do not bring you endless chips and salsa but instead these little mini corn tacos with beans which we HATED at first (we are all chips and salsa freaks!) but actually grew to prefer. Meal wise, I really like the taco salad (tostado more like), honey loves the polla diablo and the little lady loves the "appetizers" (which they let you order more of, for pretty cheap). Oh and the salsa bar..totally love the green sauce, I say try that on everything. On thing to note is this place is pretty small, like 6 booths and a few tables in middle and thats it. When/if they get busy it gets downright tight in there, and they usually only staff one server and they double as the bartender and one cook so if it gets busy it could be a little more of a wait for your food/drink

Well stumbled upon here since I live right next to it. The food is pretty good from what I had but the prices just don't seem worth it unless you get their specials! Good service. If you come here for lunch they have $5 dollar specials which is a good deal.

Really nice people work here. Service is efficient. It is the closest restaurant to my house. They make some decent food. These are the positives. Unfortunately, living in California for a decade has made me very selective about my Mexican food. As much as I wanted to love this place for convenience reasons, the food just couldn't live up to my standards. In addition, the almost completely vertical seating is not comfortable at all. Will I visit here again if I don't feel like driving to Ochoas Lupitas? Most likely.

Update... we had the 2 for $20 Carne Asada meals. Steak was great, thick and of course the beans here are true in flavor.... service was perfect...refills were fast! Great food, fast service. Place on Friday and Saturday nights are packed, so prepare, come early. Food is great, authentic and VERY different from the run of the mill Mexican Food places around this area. Pleasantly surprised at how great the food is. We'll keep coming back again and again, it's that great. Combos are cheap at under $9 so this place is a keeper!

8/31/14, time for an update: Have not been here in a few years but decided to give it a try today. We stopped for a late lunch and there was only one other table of people. I noticed they have walled off half of the restaurant and made it into a bar/lottery area. Now they have made the Restaurant area feel small and stifling. The only diet option is Coke, which I dislike so we stayed with water. Instead of a tortilla and a dish of refried beans (which they served last time) they now give you a little tortilla with some beans and a bit of Cojita cheese and the same tiny bowl of salsa. I was starving so it was OK, although I am not a huge fan of refried beans. I would prefer the standard chip and salsa, although I understand that is harder to manage. I ordered my usual a taco/enchilada combo. I asked for ground beef taco and a cheese enchilada with a side of sour cream. I got a "street" style taco with chopped beef on a corn tortilla with onions and cilantro, and a cheese enchilada with beans and rice. I did not get my requested sour cream, I decided I could skip it. I wish they would have said something when I ordered my taco, I was expecting a hard shell taco with ground beef. My meal was ehhhh, not outstanding in any way or flavorful really. I would not order it again. Hubby got a chicken burrito (no rice) and I tasted the meat and it was tasty and moist. Good value for $5.00. The best thing about the meal was dessert. We never order dessert we are not sweets type people, but we decided we were on vacation so why not. They call it Flan but in reality it is Cream Brulee with whipped cream and a cherry on top. It was freaking FANTASTIC. I would go back for that dessert! Overall, meh. The Waitperson was scarce, hiding behind the doors to the bar/keno area and talking to the Chef. She came out when she needed to, the service was OK.

Terrible service, a server whom thought I didn't speak Spanish and an unsanitary restaurant. Actually heard the server argue with another customer who had just walked in behind me about whiling a clearly dirty table down. But don't fret, their main concern it seems are the tacky lotto machines adjacent to the dining room. However, the biggest let down? A $8 CHEESE quesadilla. No joke. When I asked him to remove it, he said they had already started it and couldn't do this. But what's in a $8 quesadilla you ask? A tiny scoop of guacamole, sour cream and onions. It was half of a tortilla. Avoid this place at any cost.

This is a neighborhood, family-run business. It has a good lunch menu for reasonable prices. This is my husband and my "go to" place for a quick sit down meal. This is run by polite people trying to do plain home style of cooking. This is not a chain or franchise so may not appeal to all. It is not fancy or fake. I find they give plenty of food with taste I enjoy in a MomPop type of establishment. There is limited but colorful seating.

I believe they may have been understaffed the night I went because while, impressively, the small dining room was packed there was only one waiter on duty. It took us a long time to order and even longer to get our check, so I was not impressed with the management. The food was alright. Instead of chips and salsa we received a sort of lame and underwhelming substitute of a small tortilla with beans and a sprinkling of cotija cheese for each person. There was a salsa bar, however, which is always a plus (although there was one salsa that I'm pretty sure was actually hot chili oil which I thought to be a weird condiment to find in a Mexican restaurant). I ordered the pollo a la diabla for my entree and it was not to my liking. The dish was overly saucy, the sauce being a little too thin and salty. The chicken quality was not to my liking at all; when I came here for lunch and ordered a beef dish I also felt that the meat quality had much room to improve. All in all, I would be willing to try this place again because the waiter was friendly and this part of town is really in need of a decent Mexican restaurant.

This was our 2nd trip to Guichos. We were so pleased with first visit, that we had been looking forward to returning. We were pleasantly intrigued with the fresh tortilla with beans with salsa bar in lieu of chips & salsa. The margaritas were a nice mix of salty and sweet. The shrimp was amazing while the mole did not disappoint! This trip was a bit less climactic food-wise but we definitely enjoyed our meals and we were served by a kind and friendly young man who really made the family evening just that much more delightful. Thanks Guichos! We will be back soon!

Terrible food, comparatively high prices, and small portions. Definitely not worth a return visit. The server was quite friendly though.

What Mexican restaurant doesn't serve chips and salsa? We ordered a Queso dip, which was just coagulated cheese, and came with six chips, when we asked for some more, they stated "Oh, do you want to buy a side of chips". Really? Rest of the food a little mediocre

Guicho's makes what are easily my favorite nachos that I've come across in the Portland area so far, and very reasonably-priced. They're also one of only two places I've found up here that serves something I'd recognize as "fajitas." The staff is always really friendly, and I think their prices are extremely fair for what you get. I've never had a bad meal there.

I've been going to this place since they opened this location and eaten here probably 20 times and I'm done! Hit and miss on quality. About 60% of the time it's good, but not as good as it should be for the price, which is on the high side for Mexican. And forget about take out!!! Seems like you get half the portion and quality drops to about 35% approval rating. You can take a chance, but but look at the numbers.

Its really good. Large portions. A bit price for dinner but the quality and taste make up for it. No ground beef just diced steak and chicken.

Great little place. Been so unhappy with the Taco chains, that a friend recommendation sent us here, and we were not disappointed! Good food, large portions, shame my wife left her boxed leftovers on the table. we will be back!

Excited to go after reading the reviews, and its close to my house...Had the combo plate with chicken and beef....it was simply awful. Beef was tough and tasteless and the chicken may have come out of the freezer.... Precooked.... tastelessNo draft beer, and the fountain drinks "we're down". No chips or salsa. The reviews must have come from family or I do not know where.....gross.

Food: 2.0 pts. (See below); Service: 3.0 pts. (When asked for a recommendation, the waiter pointed out the 2 most expensive dishes. He also never inquired on the quality of our meal until he handed me the bill.); Décor: 6 pts. = 11/30 pts. / So, less than 2/5 stars. Prices: Entrées are $8.50 & up, most of which are in the $12 - $15 range. *Although this is a full-service restaurant, chips & salsa are NOT complimentary. **What is complimentary: A Refried Bean/Cotija Cheese Soft Taco Our Meal: Negra Modelo: $3.95/12 oz bottle. Carne Asada: $13.95 "Skirt steak broiled in a special way." Extremely thin with the texture of tough, stringy leather. The "special way" must refer to the oddly flavored, salty & oily residue coating the meat - which prevented me from finishing the steak - Seriously... a steak. Served with Frijoles Borrachos (salty), guacamole, rice & corn tortillas. Camarones Monterey: $13.75 Bacon wrapped shrimp(7), baked in butter & covered in Monterey Jack Cheese. Only able to choke down 4 of these (and shrimp are my wife's favorite). They became inedible due to their saltiness. We entered with high hopes, but exited with disappointment. All of the above along with a creepy waiter makes this a, 'Not Recommended'.

First time visit with friends. Good lunch prices, I'll be back to try another menu item. The portions were a decent size. I did miss having chips for the table but that is just my preference. Our server was excellent.

This is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. The food is authentic Mexican food which is very hard to find in Portland. The staff is always friendly. You get a free tortilla filled with beans before your meal and the beans are incredible. The burritos are wonderful the mole is fantastic. Every single time my family and I visit this restaurant we leave very glad that we ate there.

This place has great food and close to our home. Driving back from Seattle we were hungry and waited to get here for lunch. We are always happy with the food and this place gets high rating from us.

My Husband and I had a "thing" over at Hartwood park, and afterwards we were both starving. Cuchio's, a little mexican food place, that we'd never noticed before, (the artwork caught my eye, by Jose Solis.) So we stopped in. Wow! I consider myself a chille rellano connoisseur, and they were out of this world! My husband ordered a burrito and he could not finish it! The free chips and salsa were fresh and delectable, but don't fill up and them, unless you like a doggie bag! (the burrito was great the next day though!) Service was fast and friendly, and it was very clean. Next time we are in the area we are stopping in again!

Save your money, and the disappointment! This place is horrible, the food is nasty! I had a burrito De Cameron, the rice was soggy, the burrito fell apart! I tried to eat it but it was so salty, the shrimp weren't even whole shrimp but instead were cut up pieces! They looked like grubs! We tried the chicken tacos, but again super salty, and the chicken was dry and looked like it had been sitting out for a while! The cheese was thrown in chunk cut, one giant hunk of queso fresco! Go somewhere else!

Location isn't very big, but bright, clean, well lit and friendly. Pressed for time, we ordered several of the standards (chile relleno, mixed fajitas, carne picata, quesadilla). We were impressed by the quality and flavor. My wife doesn't (usually) eat the rice and beans at many places, but she loved them at Guicho's. The borracho beans are outsatnding. Servers were great, and we'll certainly stop in again. Doesn't appear to be a separate bar, but they offer drinks and beer. Holding the last star until I try their margaritas (and casuelas).

The food is terrific. Instead of the usual chips and dip you are serve a refried bean/cotija cheese soft taco. It is the best Mexican food in our area. We love it. The service is personal and fast..We had the Sunday special Mango margaritas and the Camarones with Chipotle sauce and the Sunday dinner special pork meatballs . everytime we come here we have tried something different and it has all been exceptional

We came here with a coupon. Service was good, but the food was meh. Nothing specifically about it was bad, I just wasn't a fan. I don't think I will return.

I've had the Chicken Tortilla soup twice for lunch and think it's great. Also had the flan for dessert one time and it was fantastic! Haven't been there for dinner. I was surprised not to get chips but I've decided I like the little "taco" better. I usually fill up on the so-so chips at other places anyway. You can ask for more salsa if you wish. I'd give it 3 1/2 stars. Pleasant, good food, and my servers have been very friendly.

Good stuff. A bit overpriced if you're not ordering from the specials menu, but the food was good. Really liked my chili rellano and the shrimp taco was respectable. I'd rather eat local than Baja Fresh or the likes and there isn't a ton of quality Mexican in this area so this is a pretty solid option. Wouldn't go out of my way for it but I'd definitely return if I'm in the area.

The establishment is clean. The service has always been great. It's not a fancy place, just comfortable and friendly with great food.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
