A coworker and I had the tamale plate..and it was awesome. The rice/beans were unique and delicious too. Presentation was also A+.

Gloria in English is Glory. That the best description of her food, Glory. This is my family lunch spot every Saturday, the food has great taste is the mix of flavors of creole Central American food, Mexican food and the personal assistance of Gloria. For my family, now, she is titi Gloria, because in PuGloria in English is Glory. That the best description of her food. This is my family lunch spot, great taste is the mix of flavor of creole Central American food, Mexican food and the personal assistance of Gloria. For my family she is titi Gloria, because in Puerto Rico, we call our aunts titi. She cook like a mother to her sons. Love it! My favorite chuletas on tomato sauce, rice & beans and las chicken enchiladas. My wife love her chipotle chicken and green chile chicken. The price, you paid for an appropriate price for your plate between $9 to $15.

Gloria's is definitely El Salvador home cooking. She is authentic and very kind to her customers. The food is delicious, albeit a little overpriced. A great spot for lunch if you've got a full hour, but have a backup since it is usually full!

Gloria is awesome - very friendly and makes amazing food. Her chips and homemade salsa are excellent! I've tried a couple dishes and both were very good. The only downfall is that there are only a handful of tables. Definitely feels like you're sitting in Gloria's kitchen, which makes for a wonderful experience.

Wonderful Latin America good made with love! Don't miss the Chile Verde or the Papusas. Can't wait to return.

Ever since I got addicted to Gloria's tamales at Beaverton farmer's market. I was in a crisis when she stopped selling her tamales there last year. I finally found her on yelp because of her signature salad. what's so amazing is that her Mole and mango chicken even surpassed her tamales. All her dishes are colorful and delicious. Everything are made fresh. She only sell the right amount of food that day. So nothing go to waste. She only take cash, and the place is small. If you're looking for amazing authentic southern American food. This is a place for you

This place is pretty dumpy, which is an odd way to start a 4-star review. "Rustic"? "Authentic?" "Charming?" "Ghetto." It epitomizes the "hole-in-the-wall" standard from the handmade-looking chalk sign to the outdated and tired decor in a cramped room that barely seats a dozen patrons. They only take cash. Drink options are limited: Coke, Diet Coke, water, and whatever specials are available. The hours are limited for lunch only with special accommodations for large dinner parties. The menu is limited in selection, and becomes more limited depending on when you get there because they're frequently running out of things. Despite all this, the food is simply amazing. Cooked to perfection. The mango chicken is a favorite of mine with just the right balance of spice and flavor. I even eat the black beans (that I normally detest). Everything is clean-your-plate delicious! I had a chance to chat a bit with the owner/chef. She was very proud of her food and explained how it's all fresh, homemade, with nothing coming out of cans. She spends hours prepping food and only has two fridges to store the day's meal prep. But if you have your heart set on something, you can call ahead and place an order or simply come early. Food: 5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 2 Value: 4 TL;DR: Tiny shabby place with superb homemade food

Perfect! Quaint as can be, authentic to the core, and a delightful discovery! Gloria is a talented gem, and her cafe is the real deal!

Gloria's has been around for years but still considered a hidden gem in downtown Beaverton. Everything is made by Gloria herself and is absolutely delicious. I ordered the mango chicken the first time and while not as spicy as I would've hoped, the chicken literally falls off the bone. The mole chicken was good as well and my friend loved her tamale. The place is small and only open for lunch usually but if you have at least 6 people, you can make a reservation for dinner. Cash only as well. Tips: get there early if you want any of the daily specials as they run out quick and there's lots of items that need to be ordered in advance so grab a menu before you leave for next time.

Best mole I've ever had. Super tender meat, really delicious salsa and spicy sauce. Amazing caramel plantains. It was delicious and I enjoyed getting to meet Gloria and some of her family during the meal. Will definitely be coming back a lot.

My Wife and I have been here twice now. Simply amazing food. REAL food! I'm pretty sure you can actually taste the love she puts into her business :)

Very quaint little place. Gloria is very sweet and helpful. She was out many items but did not tell us until we tried to order. Had the pork tamale. Masa was lovely but very little pork. The rice, beans were fine. Salsa was amazing. What appeared to be store bought chips were very good. Just a bit disappointed based on all I have heard.

  • Scott H.

Fresh salsa... Perfectly flavored. I went with the Salvadorian Tamale. It was really good. Lots of flavor in the masa. Black beans and rice were steaming hot and also seasoned perfectly. If you are in beaverton Oregon and hungry for some authentic Central American food then hit this bad boy up. Awesome. Gloria just brought me something so good. I don't even know what it is. Like pumpkin seed soup or some delicious something's.

Super nice owner and it's a very cozy place, room for about 12 people really. The food was good but overall nothing I'd go much out of my way for yet somehow I do want to support the place as it's so authentic and fun, you kind of feel like family here.

Very simple for me, if you enjoy fresh well cooked Latin-spanish-mex food, this is your place. Daily specials change along with the soup. My first visit I ordered the special, chicken & rice burrito with tamale soup. Killer, ultra-fresh veggi's with home made sauce. All the past reviews I have read were spot on, the salsa was fantastic. Large bits of tomato along with onion and spices, could make a meal out of it alone. Only down side here is that their are only 12 seats, would be very disappointing counting on lunch here and find it full with a line waiting to get in... Tip, it's "cash only" and dinner for 6 or more you need to call ahead. They want to make sure they have everything you ordered fresh and ready to eat. I vote....try it...you'll enjoy it !

I'm not a big fan of Hispanic cooking. To me, Taco Bell tastes as good as anything I've paid $$ for. Until today. I took the reviews for Gloria's Secret Cafe to heart and wasn't disappointed. I had the beef chuletas and my sister had Gloria's daily special, a sort of pork taco. Everything was so fresh, we both polished off everything on our plates and went away feeling satisfied but not stuffed as would normally be the case with most Hispanic eateries. The space is little more than a hole in the wall, but it is very clean. There may be 5 tables in the entire place. Even with the massive construction project taking place on the entire street and little or no room to park, customers nonetheless steadily flowed into the Cafe. It's easy to see why. Gloria, herself, is there to meet and greet you. She puts her heart and soul into her home-cooked meals. Her smile is infectious. Her food is divine. This place is a keeper, and I will definitely be returning soon.

SO. GOOD. Have only been once now, but the Paella was fantastic. My buddy got the mango habanero Chilean thighs and said it was wonderful too. Salsa was brilliant, fresh and a nice mild kick. After hearing Gloria discuss the menu in detail I'll have a hard time not going back regularly to make my way through the whole thing. Would be a really cool little place to have a small dinner with 8-10 friends in a private setting. (Dinner By reservation only)

The salsa you get at the table of any latin restaurant is frequently a good gauge of quality. When I tasted the salsa at Gloria's, I knew I was in for a treat. Hot, full of cilantro and lime, delicious enough to make you eat far too many corn chips. Gloria's is the real deal - Salvadoran home cooking that exudes authenticity and flavor in spades. At lunch today (July 11 2014) tried the pupusas, cornmeal cakes with pork that has been made into a paste and baked right in, and that's just how it tastes - yum! Sides are elegant and fresh, with a wonderful, spicy variation on cole slaw, proper black beans and more. I am looking forward to trying more on the menu soon. She will do dinner as well, as long as you make arrangements ahead of time, and that sounds like a mighty good idea. This is truly a small family enterprise that deserves support for doing it right.

  • Heather C.

Do yourself a favor, and check this place out. Gloria puts everything she has into her cooking, and you won't be disappointed. For a meal this good, it is worth every penny. Don't let the decor fool you.

I hesitate to review Gloria's Secret Cafe because... well... because it's a secret. The place is tiny, just four tables. But, if you do manage to get in, you are in for a treat. (And if you get shut out, there are several other good options within walking distance.) Gloria herself is an authentic cook. She cooks what she wants to eat and what she wants to share. There is a menu of favorites, yes. But ask about the specials which are very often inspired by what she found at local farmer's markets. The Secret Cafe is decidedly informal. The service is always good for this style. The focus is on the food and on Gloria. The result is always a great experience.

Apparently my dad has been coming to Gloria's Secret Cafe for many years now, but it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I had my first meal here. I had my second a few days later. And my third a few days after that. Needless to say, Gloria's has become my new go-to! The food is awesome (and so reasonably priced!) and Gloria is an absolute sweetheart! Every time I've gone, I've ordered something different. I'm going to botch the names of these dishes, but I had the spicy chicken, the veggie enchilada, and an incredible sausage and rice dish - all excellent!

    (5)
  • Jim D.

Truly excellent. Very small place, so you may have to wait to find a seat. However, we went on a weekday shortly after noon and got seated within 10 minutes. Gloria comes out personally to take your order... Nice touch. The food is excellent! I ordered the special, chicken tacos. All plates or served with rice and beans. I must say, even after the great Yelp reviews this place exceeded my expectations. Between the personal service, nice atmosphere and excellent food, it is the place to go for lunch. Also, it's right down the street from the Beaverton Bakery... A great choice for dessert, coffee or to bring some baked goodies home.

  • Tom B.

How can you say 'its the best' when so many people say things like that about so many things..read the other reviews...she is authentic..not only as a chef, but as a sweet person who is funny and soooooo talented...so glad I found this gem! Go early, book a dinner party for Friday or Saturday and wow your friends...be careful..some of her hotter sauces will cause you to reach for another napkin.. :)

  • Nina E.

Ernesto's chile verde is delicious!!!! This place is a hole in the wall but Gloria definitely brings her home kitchen to you. I never had el salvadorian food but it was really good. She also makes these cowboy taco that have her special coffee rub ingredients and they tasted almost like a Jamaican rub but better. She picks fresh peppers during the summer season and it definitely enhances the flavors.

  • Anne C.

A friend told us about this place, so we tried it today & it was soooo good! It was as if my El Salvadorian Mom (which I don't have), made us lunch in her kitchen and started the process early that morning. I had the chicken mole and my son had the chile verde. Both were layered with exquisite flavors from heaven. Gloria is very much part of the scene and let us know what she was out of already which served as a good reminder to get there early for the best selection from her scrumptious menu. Cash only is not a problem as prices are totally reasonable for such fresh fare.

Stopped by yesterday for lunch with my family. I am a vegetarian but do cheat once in awhile with fish and shellfish. On their menu, there wasn't a lot to choose from for vegetarians. I asked about the seafood paella, but you must preorder. This was my first time dining, so I wasn't aware of this. The only other vegetarian option was no longer available that day. So my server recommended that we go elsewhere. But I did talk to the owner and asked for my options. I ended up ordering their taco salad. It was beautiful to look at with a lot of colors with veggies, black beans, saffron rice, such. But I don't know, I wasn't overly impressed with the flavors. It was lacking. But I will give it another go and see if I can find something to be impressed by.

4 of us were seated, a little after noon on a Saturday, place was half empty. We ordered, and asked server how long food would take b/c we were in a bit of a hurry, she said less than 10 minutes. 20 minutes later she came out and said they were out of 2 of the 4 dishes we had ordered, what would we like instead? We asked for whatever would be quickest, and she said she'd get it right out. Five minutes later we were told they wouldn't be starting any of our orders for a while because of all the parties who were "ahead of us" in this small, half-empty place. We left.

A coworker brought some of her salsa to work one day and I absolutely had to have some of my own. It's fresh and delicious. Very flavorful. My fiancé and his son really enjoyed the salsa too. She has a stall at the Beaverton Farmer's Market and every time I am there, I make a point to get some salsa from her. Just a few days ago, a group of us from work went to Gloria's after work for dinner. The place is very small and you have to make dinner reservations. For our large group, we filled up the entire room but when you have good company, good conversations, and good food, it doesn't really matter. We gorged ourselves on chips and salsa. The guacamole is also very tasty and I'm not much of a guac person. The food is SOOO good. I ordered the Mango Habernero Chicken. The meat was so tender, it was falling off the bone. Everything was delicious. It was served with a side of black beans, rice, and salad. I took my leftovers home to the fiance and he was thoroughly impressed. He ate everything and kept commenting on how good the chicken was even into the following day. I'll have to take him here for lunch. I am definitely a fan. I hear the ahi tuna taco is delicious. It is my goal to try everything on the menu.

Loved this place! Super cozy/tiny inside. Greeted right away and told what today's specials she was cooking up in back. We had the tamale and tostadas and they were both fantastic. No super bland and heavy sauces just freshly made food with great flavor. A real winner!

This should really be renamed Gloria's Dining Room. Gloria herself is your host, waitress and cook. The place is very small and intimate, with only a few tables. With her attention to detail, cooking skills, and access to fresh ingredients at the Beaverton Farmer's Market it is impossible to have a bad meal here. The menu it limited, but every single dish is just perfect. Be sure to check out the specials menu and hope that it's still available. It usually isn't, but when you do get it... count yourself among the extremely fortunate few. Because it's usually awesome. BTW, Gloria's is cash only. This is a shoestring place run on a shoestring budget, and credit card fees would kill a lot of her profit.

Papusas in Beaverton was a pleasant surprise. Tasty food and the best Mexican Hot Chocolate I've ever had. Tiny place in the Historic district. Fitting as that district is tiny as well.

For a one woman show this owner knows how to make her customers feel proud at the table for being there while she is sharing the best latin food plates coming out of her tiny kitchen that I have tasted in a couple years! Everything about this place screams come and try me out and tell all your friends because you have just discovered something wonderful. If I had a latin grandma I am pretty sure she would have cooked just like this...

This is definitely one of my favorite places for lunch. The Chili Verde is outstanding and the chicken mole and beef chipotle aren't far behind. You can also get a pretty wide variety of items to go/pickup. I've taken 2-3 friends here and each one of them loved it and now goes back on their own. 5/6/2013 update - add the Mango Habanero Chicken to the list of awesome dishes.

The owner must be one of the most wonderful people! Lovey little place in the heart of Beaverton. Great for private parties of 6 or more. I definitely recommend this place for those that love keeping it local and like a little flavor in their life.

Pretty good first time experience. Thanks to the Food Network I've been craving and searching for a Latin American restaurant. I found Gloria's decided to take trip during my lunch brake. I got the Taco salad special for 5 bucks. It was delicious and filling even though it was only ala cart. Next time I'd like to try a full entree though, and experience some more traditional Latin American food.

I always passed Gloria's Secret Cafe riding my bike and have always been curious. Finally I visited Gloria's with a friend who was also curious. Curious no more as Gloria has earned herself some new fans. The cafe itself is very small, probably 4 tables total inside so seating is definitely limited, we came at a good time but the rest of the tables eventually filled up. You get chips and salsa with your meal, the salsa was awesome. Gloria came and asked if we wanted more salsa, me being a spice head asked if she had something spicier. She didn't have anything spicier so what she did was she went in the back and made us spicier salsa! I heart you. Many reviewers mention that it's good to come early since it seems Gloria seems to run out of the more popular stuff for the day. For example today she ran out of Habanero chicken. I made sure to ask her what was good and she seemed to appreciate that since she knows what's best that day. I got the Chile Verde and my friend got the Beef Chuletas. The rice and beans were awesome and my chile verde was very good, nice flavor. The mango salsa was nice and light and worked great with my chile verde. With the great food and cozy space I hope to try more things from Gloria. tl;dr Come early. Ask what to get, if you're unsure. Bring cash.

We were going to Borinken but it was closed (They don't open Fridays or Saturdays) so we ended up here. The decoration is old but cute Latin style. We came one hour before closing and They were out of many things. My daughter ordered the pork chuleta which was amazing, my son ordered the chile verde and he didn't let me try it, my husband the chicken in mango habanero sauce, and I, the tamales. Everything was so good and fresh! The salad was nice and summery and the casamiento (rice with beans together) was to die for! A lot fresher and nicer than Borinken. While I will still get my Puerto Rican fix, I will definitely be a regular at Gloria's. PS she is delightful!

If it is lunchtime and you find your self in the culinary backwater that is Beaverton, Gloria's Cafe is your best choice for a fantastic meal. I had the Mango Habanero Chicken which sounds spicy but was quite mild. It was genuinely one of the best plates of food I've eaten in Beaverton. Black beans, rice, and a cucumber salad accompanied the chicken. Moist bone-in thighs topped with the rich delicious Mango-Habenero sauce. To die for! Gloria herself is a riot! She is not shy and seems to love talking to her customers. Best of luck Gloria!

Every time I've gone, I've ordered something different. I'm going to botch the names of these dishes, but I had the spicy chicken, the veggie enchilada, and an incredible sausage and rice dish - all excellent!

My favorite chuletas on tomato sauce, rice & beans and las chicken enchiladas. My wife love her chipotle chicken and green chile chicken. The price, you paid for an appropriate price for your plate between $9 to $15.

My friend and I discovered Gloria's secret today. Well, sort of. We don't really know how in the world that woman makes such delicious food, but at least we know how to get to her restaurant now! And I, for one, will be returning....if for no other reason than to drink a half gallon of that delicious salsa. Mmmmm! That stuff was the bomb! BUT WAIT! There's more. The chicken taco with some kind of magical sauce on top of it was yummy. Oh, and then there's that chicken quarter with a mango something sauce on it that was drizzling over onto the rice that was UH-MAY-ZING! Yep. This little hole in the wall place is totally worth your trip and worth the little extra money you'll spend. I just can't do the flavor justice with words. Let me just say.....GO GETCHA SOME! I'm a Texan girl who's eaten TONS of Mexican food, and this Gloria woman (who's SUPER NICE and INCREDIBLY GENUINE) really has something special with this authentic Salvadoran home cooking! THANK YOU, GLORIA, FOR A LIP-SMACKING DELICIOUS MEAL!

Excellent food! Whoever that guy is that complained about paying $10.50 for lunch is not in touch with reality. This "lunch" is more like a real dinner, in quality and portion not to mention home cooked. Go to taco bell if you want cheap.

The food is incredible. The pupusas and the paella get the recommend. It's a very small location but the food is worth it if you have to wait. Gloria is so sweet and always comes to greet customers. It's tucked away but make it over to Gloria's because it's a gem.

Bring cash.

I didn't go to the actual restaurant, just the booth at the Beaverton Farmer's Market. I'm so glad my partner had read a review about Gloria; there were so many choices at the market, I don't know if I would have picked her if I didn't know about her. I got the pork tamale. It's MUCH larger than a normal tamale, and a little bit moister. My only complaint was the lack of pork in the pork tamale. I probably had an ounce, maybe two of pork at the most...That said, the flavors were amazing. She served it with a small salad of fresh turnips, greens, and topped everything with a fresh pic de gallo style salsa. My friends tried the pupusas, and were very happy. I really want to try the cafe so I can check out more of her menu. I'm a fan!

Everything tasted homemade and fresh. I had the Salvadoran Tamale and the masa was light and flavorful. The pork filling was delicious. Rice and beans were more than a side dish, very flavorful. My companion had the habanero chicken and it was a delight, spicy but not too hot. Pricey for lunch but the portions are large and it is worth it. I plan to return and work my way through the entire menu. I took home a container of the salsa also.

I've been staying in Beaverton for the past week, helping to care for my grandmother, who has Alzheimer's. I wanted to get her out of the house for a bit, and thought lunch at a nice cafe would be a treat. I found Gloria's by searching reviews on Yelp, so off we went! Eating at Gloria's is less like eating at a cafe, and more like eating in your favorite auntie's very colorful and lively kitchen. It is VERY small, but bright and colorful and cozy. The music is happy, Gloria herself is friendly and personable and makes you feel right at home. And the food was heavenly. I had the paella, and it was absolutely perfect. Just the right amount of heat and spice. My grandmother had the pork tamales. She normally says she doesn't like food or like to eat really, but she eats to stay alive. Well my frail 88yr old grandmother nearly devoured her tamale and couldn't stop talking about how wonderful it was and how she couldn't stop eating it. So HUGE thanks to Gloria for helping my Grandma rediscover a love of good food. I told my relatives in the area to make sure they bring Grandma back again someday since I'll be heading back home soon. Hopefully I'll get a chance to visit Gloria's again someday as well! :)

This little cafe is a gem in Beaverton. I love the cozy and colorful ambience, it doesn't feel like you are in Beaverton while you are sitting inside of Gloria's Secret Cafe. Bright colors, bold and patterned table cloths, fun and festive music and lots of homemade decorative touches make this a cute spot to eat. The owner Gloria is a sweet lady and is very attentive and welcoming. It feels like you are eating at her home where you are one of her honored guests. I love Salvadorian food and haven't had any since I've left the SF Bay Area. I thought the quality of food was fresh and delicious. If you have ever had Salvadorian food at a little hole in the wall, I would say that Gloria's Secret Cafe is a fancier, healthier version of what you've had before. The food isn't heavy and she uses a lot of fresh produce to color her plates. My girlfriend and I shared the Pupusa plate and the Chile Verde plate - both were satisfying and seemed like healthier versions of those dishes but without sacrificing flavor. The yellow rice that seems to come with all of her dishes is very yummy! If I am ever in Beaverton again, or am craving Salvadorian food, I will definitely come back here.

This is truly a hidden gem! Gloria makes everything from scratch -- you will never find a can of anything in her kitchen. From black beans on up everything is so wonderfully flavorful and just makes your taste buds sing! Gloria comes out and greets you personally as you come into her tiny little space and she was amazingly personal in her touch with each person in our group! It is wonderful to see a small business owner following her passions!

While getting a hair cut down the street at Covet Salon, I was told by the ladies there about this "secret" cafe that had an awesome habanero maisa dip thing. A cross between nacho cheese, salsa, and a liquid tamale, this stuff did not disappoint. My lunch consisted of pork enchiladas drenched in habanero maisa, and copious amounts of chips and salsa. I took a container of it home to share with my friends. Be forewarned, we are talking about habaneros here, so it is HOT, HOT, HOT! But, oh so good. The waitress was also very friendly and, while cozy, this cafe had a very great atmosphere. I will definitely be back for more.

Sooooo my lovely friend invited me to a birthday dinner, allllllllll the way out in Beaverton. I sighed, shook my head, and grumpily agreed to drive allllll the way out there.....reminding her that this shows how much I love her, that I am willing to trek to her dinner, fifty miles, uphill both ways, to Beaverton. Man alive, was it worth it. Gloria's is open for lunch, but will open for you later if you pre-order and make a reservation. What a PERFECT option for a small group celebration... we were able to take over their small seating area, bring our own booze, and enjoy the awesome food and company to our hearts delight. Their seating area is small, but covered in funky art and newspaper clippings, bursting with personality. The service is awesome, Gloria and her other employee [didn't catch her name] were so sweet and friendly, truly felt like you were sitting in your favorite aunt's kitchen. The FOOD? AMAZING! Fresh ingredients, cooked to order, and bursting with flavor. We started out with the ceviche and Salvadorian guacamole, both of which were delicious. I assured her that I would communicate my LOVE for the guacamole.... which was unique [even had hard boiled egg in it, who woulda thought?] and soooo good. I think the actual quote was "Good thing for YOU there isn't a justice of the peace here, 'cause I'd marry the shit outta that guacamole." YUM. The other dishes were all equally delish, we had everything from the tacos to the sopas to the paella....trying each other's [you'll want to do this, because it all looks so damn good] and devouring our own. Needless to say, by the end of the evening I was completely convinced that I would, in fact, drive out to Beaverton JUST to eat this food again. Which says a lot. I highly recommend not only their food, but also reserving after hours for a small dinner. You'll leave full, happy, and satisfied that your money supported such fabulous people!

Tiny, four table restaurant with a few more outdoor seats (hope for sun), this little cafe rocks! Owner, chef, server, and wonderful conversationalist, Gloria, manages to deliver top notch food, service and value totally on her own! For a taste of El Salvador, this is the place to go. You'll feel as if you're in her home. Relax, and enjoy some of the tastiest dishes beginning with a wonderful salsa. We ordered the pupusas, filled with seasoned pork paste and served, as were the other dishes, with delicious rice, beans and a terrific cucumber laced salad. Today we shared that and the steak chuletas. Have also enjoyed the chili verde and taco salad. Next trip to the area, we'll return to try more of Gloria's cooking! Heads up: cash only and rightly so--prices are very reasonable and Gloria deserves to make max profit. We plan a trip to the Farmers Market before getting back on the road to take a little more of her good Salvadoran cooking with us.

This unique little spot has some delicious grub. The salsas were great. One cool and on hot, they both hit the spot. I requested a picante and she didn't have any, but made me some by blending habaneros in some lime juice. It was a great accent for the chile verde, and perked the other salsas up just a bit. The chile verde was tender and comfortable. At first I thought it was too cheesy, but I got over it. It was nothing amazing, but it was solid. The beans and rice were both great. No tortillas, which I thought was odd with the chile verde, but I just swirled the rice in and the juices absorbed into the buttery grains nicely. There was a lunch special. It cost less than half anything on the menu ($5). But it was not available for ordering in. I got there early and was the only person sitting, but no lunch special. It seemed odd, but as I got a feel for the place I realized that Gloria has a vision of home cooking, and a verde wrap is not it. That's something that busy people get to go and take with them and eat at their jobs or in their cars. But a meal is a plate of delightful home cooking in a cozy spot, and it takes a bit more love. And that's what was delivered. Writing this I'm wondering why I didn't allot 5 stars...and I realize...$10.50 is a bit much for my lunch budget, and the music was awful.

The restaurant's name is perfectly accurate: if you didn't know it was there, you'd miss it entirely. Gloria opened her El Salvadorian restaurant a few years ago, and has managed her business single handedly with a small kitchen and even smaller fridge. She's doing something right, because my office visits her almost weekly and we're not the only ones. I had the fish tacos the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the flaky, moist texture. And can we take a moment to discuss her mango salsa?! Mango, strawberry, cabbage and I don't know what else, but it's fresh, light, and pairs brilliantly to compliment the flavors. She is most well known for her tamales (which can be purchased at the Raleigh Hills New Seasons BTW), and has received many write ups in local publications. If you're going to have the full experience 1) go early for lunch (she sells out quickly), 2) ask Gloria what you should have, and 3) bring cash so you can pay (and therefore be welcomed back).

Fantastic hole in the wall place. Great food and Gloria is really friendly. Parking can be a pain sometimes. Cash only. She is willing to open for dinner if there is reservation for at least four I believe.

Hubby and I wanted to visit this place since we first read about it when we moved to Oregon. We live about 5 miles away but never spotted it until we decided to walk around the Beaverton Bakery one Saturday morning. Crossed the street to the tobacco shop and about halfway down the block, there it was! It IS secret! But Gloria was OPEN! It was only around 11 a.m. but lunch was being served. She opens at 8:00 on Saturday and serves breakfast. So we checked out the 10 or so choices and I decided on tacos. Holy terror were they good. The meat was marinated in spices and lime, and it was very beefy - good meaty flavor - and with a tiny perfect portion of fat - you need just a little - come on! And the beans & rice - you can't lump them together here. The beans are perfectly cooked - no little hard ones or overcooked mushy ones. P E R F E C T. The black bean flavor is heaven when they are done right. The rice? Oh geez, just thinking of it - again, perfectly cooked - a slight bite to it, beautiful yellow-gold color - and SO delightfully fluffy and yet dense and with those muted delicious spices! I don't know what's in the rice, I just know I will go there again and again and again and I will pick some up on the way home from work at least twice a month. The taco itself - the shell- is not Americanized. It's two corn tortillas that get buried and take on the flavors of the unpeeled mango, cilantro, the meat, the onions, the spices - and the moisture - from the plate. It's different and it's delightful. I can't say when I've had a better meal - the freshness of the ingredients, onion, cabbage, radish, all were outstanding. Hubby had the papusa, a cornmeal type flat tamale-like item. It didn't have a lot of meat or cheese in it, so that was a bit disappointing - but the FLAVOR was good. The marinated cabbage on top was a perfect match to the almost bland papusa. And served, of course, with those astonishingly good rice and beans. We were both so happy and full. I brought home a cardboard box of what was left of our plates, and slow-roasted a pork belly all afternoon to serve with - it was fantastic. The salsa, too, was very nice. Nothing too special, but with a good slight heat and lots of chunks of fresh onion and cilantro too. The mole was the only thing I'm not sure about, and only because I don't know mole. It was served in a dish on its own because you get a little bowl of whatever sauce is the sauce of the day - and it was mole that day. I took it home but I haven't eaten it yet. I'll find something to put it on, I'm sure. Gloria's would have five stars if it was a tad cleaner - there was a dirty bucket under the table by the wall - maybe it was temporary - hope so! It's a restaurant so you have to be really careful about stuff like that. Food was very near perfect. Go! Take a friend you like! Stop by the bakery afterward for some dessert! And if you know anyone in recovery, just down the street is a little Angel store with all kinds of 12-step items. A must-see for those in recovery....

I had lunch at Gloria's today and was very impressed. Though it is listed under Mexican food, I believe that it should be classified as Salvadorian. I had the Chile Verde which was quite good. It could have been a bit spicier for my taste but I like spicy food. Gloria herself runs the restaurant and does the cooking. She is a friendly, warm, and welcoming woman who coddles her patrons as though they are her own children. The restaurant is quite small. I believe there were 5 tables that could each seat two people. I was there with a group of three guys and we pulled a chair over from another table...it was quite snug. There are also two tables out front on the sidewalk but it was too cold today and I would imagine they do not get much protection from the rain so their life span may be over for the season. I would recommend that anyone who like Latin food try out Gloria's. You will not be disappointed.

This place is simply great. Two of us shared two plates- the pupusa and a pork anoto special. Both were really good. Gloria's a great cook and this is a friendly place. In a foodie town with so many high-priced, inauthentic "ethnic" restaurants, this place is the REAL thing. Loved it!

I'd been hearing about this place for a long time and finally made it in today for lunch. I was hoping for a tamale, but I got in a little late and they were sold out. I had a chile verde plate with pork and it was awesome. I started with chips and the house made salsa and masa(?) and both were great. I took some of the salsa to go as well. I understand that Gloria is going to be selling her tamales, tacos and salsa at the Beaverton Saturday Market, so I'm going to look for her stand this Saturday and get a tamale. I think I'm going to make this place a regular lunch spot from now on!

My husband and I tried Gloria's tamales (wrapped in banana leaves) at the Beaverton Farmers Market, and we became instant fans. The only problem is: every single time we've come by, they have been closed. Even though the A-frame sign is out by the railroad tracks. Please don't tease us, Gloria! We want to eat your food and pay your our money!

We left.

Tiny place with awesome food. Gloria is incredibly friendly. I got the pork chuletas , which includes rice and beans and it was just awesome. The pork was tender and rich and the rice and beans were delicious as well. I'll definitely be getting lunch from here often. Beware, it's cash-only..which kind of sucks.

Very quaint little place. Gloria is very sweet and helpful. She was out many items but did not tell us until we tried to order. Had the pork tamale. Masa was lovely but very little pork.

Gloria's is definitely El Salvador home cooking. She is authentic and very kind to her customers. The food is delicious, albeit a little overpriced. A great spot for lunch if you've got a full hour, but have a backup since it is usually full!

The food is incredible. The pupusas and the paella get the recommend. It's a very small location but the food is worth it if you have to wait. Gloria is so sweet and always comes to greet customers. It's tucked away but make it over to Gloria's because it's a gem.

I'm a fan!

I think this place is very worthy to enjoy a meal, however, you must be flexible on their Hours: Tue-Fri 11 am - 3 pm Sat 11 am - 2:30 pm Beyond that, they are reservation only, and may be short handed. The food is phenomenal! And they are always very kind. Just until they are able to support a bigger demand, you must have the patience for their hours.

Gloria is awesome - very friendly and makes amazing food. Her chips and homemade salsa are excellent! I've tried a couple dishes and both were very good.
