Great food, cool atmosphere! This place is a True Gem. I had the blackened grilled halibut and all I can say is wow. My girl friend had the fish and chips and they were amazing as well. Put this one on your list.

When we arrived, the tavern was in full swing with locals telling their stories. (It was only 5:30 or so). We weren't in the mood for bar food. but we stayed to have a drink on the back patio. The bartender who came out and took our order was a hoot. I'm not a beer person, so the bartender suggested some pomegranate hard cider. She brought me out a sample, and laughed at the look on my face when I decided it wasn't for me. Then she suggested the hard apple cider, which was great. Dogs are allowed on the patio, and you can watch the boats in the harbor.

This place has some really good food. it was our first time trying this place after looking on Yelp and trying to find some good food there were a lot of good reviews so I wanted to try it. We ordered a cup of clam chowder a few burgers and some Jamaican chicken wings. the wings were amazing! The burgers were so delicious in the clam chowder was very tasty. Everything was at a reasonable price. And the service was pretty good. I would definitely recommend this as a place to eat. By far the best burgers in Astoria that I have ever tried.

We walked there when our room wasn't ready and our dogs had been in the car all day, they had outside seating and welcomed my large breed dogs. The staff was all friendly and came out to meet my fur-babies and even brought them a treat from the kitchen! I had the Clam Chowder which was so creamy and flavorful. My husband had a bacon cheeseburger and fries which was huge and delicious. Didn't think it would be very good, from outward appearances but we were pleasantly surprised and will definitely come back, I want to try the fish and the onion rings next time.

I had heard good things and worry some things, but I must say the burgers are great and the chowder is to die for! We loved this tavern! Except for the few trying to win their next mortgage payments on the Lotto-slot machines, it was a bunch of friends having fun and great food! We won't hesitate to return to this very local watering hole.

The Halibut fish and chips are still some of the best that I have tasted. The fries are still so-so, but the onion rings are house made--crispy and good. It is a local hangout.

Now that our month-long stay in the boat yard and marina is coming to an end, we thought we should do all the other traveling sailors and yachties a favor and let this little gem out of the bag and onto the internet. On our first visit, we were greeted the second we walked through the door. And every visit thereafter. The bartenders make a kick-ass drink, (glad we were walking back to the boat), the beer is cold, and the food is one of the best kept secrets in Astoria. The cook/chef should be working for a five-star joint. No kidding. The halibut dinner was the most exquisitely prepared halibut we have ever had. (Yes, we tipped the chef.) We asked for it moist (medium rare) and it was perfect. The $3.25 dinner salad was amazing and perfect every single time we ordered it. Not a wilted leaf in the entire month. Really. Prime rib on Friday night sells fast. The Idaho baked potatoes are ginormous and really flavorful. Served with real butter and sour cream. If you like your prime rib rare, get there early or call to see about reserving for a large group. Clam chowder was freshly homemade and very good. Not too salty, not too fatty. Great flavor. Lots of clams. Burgers are served on homemade buns and cooked to perfection - juicy and accompanied by the best sweet dill pickles ever. Delicious. We're going to miss you guys and talk about your meals often. Thanks!

You know not every place is for everyone. I can't talk smack though the staff was friendly and kept it professional. Relaxed folks and environment.

Went because of yelp reviews! Went back because the halibut and chips were amazing. The sandwiches look so good. But can't get past the halibut and chips to try them.

I like the Portway Tavern. I always have and I believe I always will. It feels like what it is, an unassuming local drinking establishment with character. I can't say much about the food. I have only eaten here a few times and have yet to find something that would warrant a special trip just to have it again. My last food experience involved their fish and chips. The menu promised halibut. I seriously doubt that is what I was served. Halibut is distinctive. I would bet I had cod. They do batter their own fish though...and they get points for that. The batter was a bit on the heavy side for my tastes. Fortunately thought the fish slipped right out of the batter and it was like eating steamed fish and chips...quite moist and tasty all by itself. For me the real star of the show are the Bloody Mary's. I love bars where the barkeep handmakes each and every Bloody Mary. I like the individuality of it. I do wish they would keep some celery for garnish, but I can't have everything. If you are in the mood for Bloody Mary's in Astoria, this is the place to go.

This is a good place to go if you wanna watch the owner of the Ford dealership drink beers for a while. Aside from that, I don't think I'd ever actually eat here. And as far as the atmosphere goes, if I'm in the mood for a dive, I'd definitely go with the Triangle.
