Having lived in Houston Texas, I have enjoyed some fantastic Mexican/TexMex food. Unfortunately this restaurant does not compare to good restaurants I have been to before. The service is slow and the chips and tortillas are not freshly prepared. Overall, the fajitas were no better than we could make at home and our kids would not eat the tacos, chicken nuggets, or fries. On the upside, the Cadillac Margarita is really good...which made the wait a bit more tolerable;-) We have yet to find a really good Mexican food restaurant in Beaverton/Portland....the search continues....

My wife and I went there last Friday afternoon. Greeted by the owner Juan right away with a smile. Great menu with lots of choices and decent prices. Really fast service, the Happy Hour margarita for $2.50 was good and came within a few minutes. Three treat you just right! I had the Chili Verde and it was excellent. No less than four times they came by to see if i needed anything and to ask if our meal was good. My wife had the chili relleno with chicken, she loved hers too. GREAT happy hour!!! 3-6pm every day! These guys will make it for sure. Better food than the old Amigo's they replaced. I'm hoping they bring in live Mariachi music on the weekends. Amigos did and those were really fun times and busy too.

Went yesterday for lunch (1pm) with family and all agreed it was quite good. Service was good but the place pretty dead. I will definitely return.

I've been here several times. It clean, good location for me, good service and the food is pretty good. I had chicken mole and a pomegranate margarita tonight. Both were good. I'll be back!

Their beans where runny, the rice was a bit crunchy and their beef had a very distinct flavor I have never had at a Mexican restaurant and that's not a good thing. I would never come here again.

Good new local Mexican place. Stopped in last night for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Both food and service were good. Chips and salsa were excellent and a nice touch was that they give re-fried beans with the chips and salsa. Chips were fresh and not greasy. Lots of vegetarian options. Worth a stop. I will be coming back.

Mi Jalisco opened up sometime last month and I've been wanting to try it out. In short, I was pleased. First were the obligatory chips and salsa. Salsa was spicy with a hint of sweetness. Also, a small plate of refried beans was included and worked quite well with the chips. Nothing special but a nice surprise. We each had the Mi Gusto plate that was on special. It had Carne Asade, Pollo Asado, and 5 prawns in a choice of flavors. Mine were a spicy version. Very good flavor for each, especially the Carne Asade that tasted very much like a decent steak. Prawns were definitely spicy but tasty. There was one problem when one of our plates was not to have beans on it, but it was fixed very quickly. My partner's Cadillac Margarita gave a decent buzz about a third of the way into it. My Iced Tea was refilled 4 times without asking . . . service was observant. We finished by sharing a Flan. It was what we expected so thumbs up on dessert. They didn't take American Express (sniff) but that comes with the territory. In all, though, we'll easily go back to try other items on a fairly large menu. Four stars because I never give five. ETA: We've returned many times with the food just as good as the first time. About a month after our first time, the waiter recognized us and let us know, on his own without asking, that they now took American Express. The fact that he remembered us and an isolated incident a month earlier was amazing.

Food, service, ambiance, atmosphere, authenticity. ....all muy bueno!!! I will definitely come here again and recommend it to anyone who asks :-D

We ate there yesterday and it was way more than either of us could eat, but we tried...as it was delicious. It's about 1.5 size potions, so if you did share...you would have space for desert. We also enjoyed the large margarita's...as this place brought back thoughts of the trip to Mazatlan, Mexico, where they don't skimp on the drinks.

Decent, Americanized food. Had the cheese/onion enchilada and beef taco. The taco was meh. The echilada was ok. Not the best I've had, but not the worst. Staff very friendly.

I was very skeptical going to Mi Jalisco only because it is so hard to find good Mexican food in our area. Imagine my surprise when I found the food to be very good. I was greeted upon entering and seated promptly. I ordered a regular margarita with light salt and not only did that one arrive with just a touch of salt but so did the following drinks. The salsa that accompanies the chips seems to be home made as it has nice heat without any canned taste. I ordered a grande combination of chile relleno, shredded pork tamale and beef enchilada. The relleno retained the crisp toothiness of the chile while the tamale must have been made here as there was a distinct spice to the masa that can't be found in mass production tamales. If you want cloth napkins and exotic surroundings then you should spend more and get less. If instead you want attentive service, above average food and pleasant service then Mi Jalisco will meet your needs and like mine, surpass them.

We've been here twice and will keep coming back. The food is good and affordable. The service is even better. I really want this locally owned business to succeed!

So here's the deal... this joint is super close to home which makes this one of the main reasons we go here from time to time. Don't get me wrong, the food is good but they are on the "just ok" scale which means I don't crave them and they don't 'wow' me. Staff is probably the best thing about this place, as they are very friendly and tentative... However... If your reading this review, one thing I must STRESS to you is DO NOT order the fish tacos from here. They are horrible, so bad in fact I griped about it and got something different (which I never do, but even my hungry honey wouldn't touch em).. this is painful because I love love love fish tacos.

We didn't feel like cooking dinner tonight, so being close by we decided to try Mi Jalisco, hoping it was going to be good. Sadly, it was not worth the gamble. The fact that there is no kid's menu pokes a hole in this being a "family" restaurant. They did have chicken nuggets & fries for the kids, but the chicken nuggets had a rubbery texture to them and the fries were not seasoned. Entrees for the adults first included fish tacos that I would instead call "fishy tacos" because the fish was an unidentifiable mushy conglomeration of fishy stuff. Sometime later, the tamale and chile relleno showed up. The tamale looked like an enchilada that did not reveal itself to be a tamale until poked at. I still don't know what to think of the relleno. It was a very thin sheet of egg wrapped around a green chili stuffed with a flavorless cheesy mush. This was then covered in a huge pile of cheese making it difficult to see that there was a "relleno" hiding in there. The accompanying beans were thin, but adequately seasoned, but the rice was a dry, salt-less waste of space on the plate. To top it off, after our plates were taken and I asked for the check, no check appeared. I needed to walk to the front desk to get someone to take my payment. While the servers were friendly, they did not seem to be enthused about serving the stuff they called food. I will not be returning and I will willingly drive farther away to avoid them.

You want good food and great portions? This is your place. Great place for kids. They bring out chips, salsa and bean dip seconds after you sit down. Staff is friendly and everyone is on top of it. This is my go-to Mexican spot on the westside!

In the old location for Amigos. I was a BIG fan of amigos, so they had a lot to live up to. They sure did Great food, great drinks, great service Consuelas!!!

Well, for me to say that I would come back to this place was the first step, I have been here more than 4 times in a month and still love it! Good price, service, portions and more... Definitely recommendable.

Went in on a Tuesday evening. Decided to try them out. Last time I was in here it was amigos but that was almost a decade ago. The layout was bright and open. did not fell cramped in here like i do at other Mexican restaurants. Food tasted pretty good. I had three cheese enchiladas, rice and beans. Plus some kind of "sunrise" alcoholic drink. The meal cost $9.95 and the drink was a small one, but cost $5.95. The enchiladas were pretty good. Just the right amount of cheese and it tasted like they added the sauce inside as well. Rice was tender and the beans had decent amount of flavor to them. Before you meal, like other Mexican restaurants, you are given chips, salsa and bean dip. Chips tasted like they were bagged though they could be made in house I do not know. Bean dip comes on a small plate rather then a small bowl and the salsa tastes like its made in house. it was WAY better then that pace crap other places use. I'll go again. maybe have their lunch specials.

Checked this place out for the first time last night. I'm mostly a taco-truck kind of guy, but sometimes you just crave that Tex-mex/American-mex experience, and this place opened up near my house pretty recently so I figured I'd try it. Long story short, I was suitably impressed and will be going back to try more things soon. In more detail: I ordered the margarita perfecta and pollo en mole, and my lady got the chicken and shrimp fajitas. The margarita was nice and citrusy, nothing too saccharine, and priced fairly for the amount of beverage I received. I also liked that they clearly list the ingredients going into the drink - that shows pride in the spirits and liqueurs being used, unlike some restaurants that will try to obfuscate their use bottom-shelf tequila and sour mix. Food was very well done, huge portions for fair prices, and the mole was nice. On the sweet side, but still well balanced. Fajitas were also quality, very well seasoned and proper ratios of meat and veggies. Chips and salsa tasted fresh, a small thing which counts for a lot, although next time I'll ask if they have a hotter salsa option as well. Also worth noting, the lettuce and tomato that came with each plate were nice and lively. I'm used to bracing myself for wilting lettuce or mushy tomatoes, but this stuff was crisp and bright. Another small thing that counts for a lot. Service was prompt, attentive, and never became intrusive, and just friendly enough to seem genuine without feeling forced. This isn't world-class dining, and it isn't authentic mex, but it's damn quality stuff, and I will be back when the craving strikes. Welcome to Beaverton, Mi Jalisco, I hope you stick around.

We live close and were pleased when this restaurant opened. We dropped in for a meal and have been coming here at least weekly ever since. It's close, it's friendly, the food is fresh and tasty. It's a nice break when we don't want to cook at home. I would sure like to see a coupon now and then that we could use.

Great restaurant! It's always hard to find a good place for Mexican food that has the perfect combination of great service and great food. My girlfriend and I are foodies and we definitely love trying out new places. We were looking for Mexican food and decided to give this place a shot. We weren't disappointed! From the start, we had excellent service. We were quickly seated and water, salad, beans and chips were brought over. I'm a big fan of Mexican restaurants that have great salsa and this place definitely does. They also brought out refried beans free of charge which I have never seen. Our food was great. I got the large combination with a chicken taco, enchilada and tamale. The portions are huge here and it's very affordable! This place will be my new go to Mexican restaurant.

Great place to eat I'm from San Diego so I'm really critical about Mexican food since I've been spoiled my whole life with the best Mexican food. There enchiladas were amazing. The prices very low for what we got

My husband and I were craving Mexican food and heard about this new place nearby. I really liked their menu, they have a large selection of dishes, an entire section just on eggs and few Mexican restaurants offer oysters. Yum. I got the mole chicken because Mole can make or break a place for me. The Mole was solid, a little on the sweet side but rich and good. The salsa they served had some jalapenos in it too, not enough to burn but enough to warm the palate in a pleasant way. My husband had a loaded wet burrito and was very satisfied. We ate too much and as their portions are huge that isn't difficult. I would have never known about this place if it wasn't for yelp as it's kind of tucked into a hidden corner of a strip mall but don't let that keep you from going, the food is some of the best around. We will happily return in the future. They also have a good selection of soups too!

Date night with wife, first time visit. Everything was great! I had chicken fajitas, wife had carne asade. Chips and salsa fresh and tasty. Everything served on HOT plates sizzling! Service was great, we agreed this will be our first choice for date night south of the border.........

Happy hour is great with really good drink and food specials! We also had the banderas enchiladas and it was to die for. Can't wait to go back and try other things.

Wow! Service was prompt, attentive, and accommodating. Food was piping hot, plentiful, and delicious. We had the pollo diabla, and the 2 burrito meal. BTW burritos come in different sizes here. Enjoyed this much more than Mazatlan on 185th. Yummy. We will be back.

I felt this restaurant was solid. Everyone liked what they ordered and the price matched the food quality and quantity. The waitstaff was friendly and good with the kids. There was plenty of room - I didn't feel crowded. This is a good, solid local restaurant. It will probably be our go-to local Mexican place.

So I'm from the Southwest, so I know good Mexican food. I've been trying to find a go too place in the area for a long time. This place is one of the best I've had in the Portland area. I have some allergy issues with sulfites, and I almost always get sick when I go out for Mexican food. Not at this place! Everything is fresh, very tasty, and service is excellent. I really like that they give you beans and salsa with your chips. If you live in Aloha or Beaverton you have to try this place.

This is a pleasant, family-run restaurant in a shopping center. There is a "Lite & Veggies" menu section, good for vegetarians, as well as a "Lite" section for kids & seniors (60+). The Espinaca Enchiladas were tasty, and came with black beans & rice. The Lite cheese enchilada came with rice & re fried beans, and was fine, but needed more spiciness. The staff was friendly & service was quick. Can't say how it be when crowded, because it wasn't when we were there.

  • Valerie S.

Even though we've lived in the area for 7 years, this is the first time giving them a try. Sadly, we will not be returning. The rice was chewy/undercooked. The beans were runny. Salsa nothing to write home about. This is just not acceptable when there are so many other places in the area that do Mexican food so much better! I did think the verde burrito with shredded beef tasted nice. But, not even a hint of heat. Three stars for the burrito.

I'm going to start doubting your yelp reviews people!! I'm giving this establishment 3 stars because of the very friendly service, the strong margarita, and the fact that they had Horchata on the menu. I will disclose that I'm a native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, therefor I will have to say that perhaps this restaurant should change its name to Santa Fe because it's more Southwestern than Mexican. I ordered the chile relleno, enchilada, tamale plate (I was not on a diet that day). The meat inside my tamale and enchilada was delicioso! Too bad that they smothered it on a sauce from the can and topped everything with cheddar cheese, which by the way is never served in Mexico. My chile relleno was actually a chile filled with cheese, but it was surrounded by a scrambled egg, not the delicate egg-white wash that that it should be. I wish I could give them 1 star, but they were so damn nice. If you don't know good Mexican food, this is the place for you.

Update: 4/15 This is still my favorite Mexican Restaurant I am the Dutchess and my husband is the Duke, that's how often we eat here. The food is top notch and I am still in love. The one thing that bugs the shit out of me is the server (the guy), I know he is the Owners Son, which is nice but for gods sake get a personality. He does an excellent job of making sure we have water, asks how our food is, etc, but I eat there weekly, act like you know me for craps sake, maybe a "wow nice to see you again" "thanks for stopping by", anything! As another reviewer noted they act very awkward and I have to agree. He is so shy and never says one word more than he has to, I am sure he is a nice guy but he really needs to act like he enjoys his job even if he doesn't. I have attempted small talk but he either acts like he does not hear me or says one word answers. It is bizarre, most Mexican Restaurants welcome you and are over the top nice and gracious. I hope they read their Yelp reviews which I am pretty sure they don't.

Okay, we have come here maybe 50 times and lately (the last 4 visits) we have had to beg for our first ordered Pepsi and then every refill there after. Listen, I enjoy my pepsi WITH my chips and salsa, not just with dinner!! The same younger latino guy does this to us everytime now. I want the cool wife to wait on us from mow on!! By the way, the chips and salsa are so old and mediocre. I wished they would buy a different bulk chip.

We had lunch here and did not think this place rates the four stars our fellow yelpers gave it. While the service was friendly and ambiance well done the food lacked seasoning / flavor. It was hot and fast but lack luster so minus one star. The salsa was a disappointment a serious one. Essentially tomato sauce, chopped raw onions and some cilantro. Really shockingly bad and tasted blah, minus a star.

Affordable. Flavorful. Consistent. I feel the need to explain how amazing this restaurant is, while the servers are awkward, the food amped up the whole experience! Well seasoned -not too salty!- and much balanced flavors in each dish. The beans were excellent, the rice was perfectly seasoned with so much flavor. As for the enchilada sauce- had a little somethin somethin that I can't put my finger on but my word was it tasty. Got to eat my food hot and got it quick! Definitely coming back here. And worth a try!

Friendly staff. Large portions at a very reasonable price. Fresh chips and salsa. I had the combination with an enchilada, stuffed chile and taco. I just wish things were seasoned, just not very memorable.

My family and I love this place!!! We tried it when it first opened. I was shocked at how big their portions were! Huge, huge, plates. You also get salsa, beans, and chips for free. To top it off, they keep them coming. Even though we all love in different parts of town, we always find a way to meet up here. I have even introduced my friends here as well and they too have loved it.

Avoid the fish tacos at all costs. I detected canned tuna, certainly not the tilapia our server claimed if to be. Very fishy, very disapponting. Service is attentive, food is overall ok. Our last visit wait time was very long, as they were short staffed, which is sometimes out of the establishment ' s control if someone doesn't show up. I think they need to step up their game a bit, and change those fish tacos!

Came here with some friends and ended up loving this place. Their tortilla chips, beans and salsa is amazing! They have great deals on different combos. I've always gotten the #1 which includes two enchiladas. You can get either chicken or beef. I, myself love the chicken enchiladas w/a la crema sauce. The a la crema sauce is excellent. It's nice and creamy not like most places where it's watery. They give a generous amount of food and I haven't found another place that can beat their prices. It's a family owned business and their all pretty friendly, especially if you come frequently. Also, they sometimes have coupons in the Beaverton booklets that come in every once in a while.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
