Avoid at all costs. That is the simple answer. Below is the longer explanation. Service: Terrible. They aren't rude, they're just amazingly slow. It wasn't even very busy, but no one came by and took our order, refilled tea, or checked on us (you know, the stuff normal restaurants do). They need a standard dress code for employees, some guy came up to seat us and I thought he was a random dude talking to us at first. Took our drink orders, never saw him the rest of the day. Don't know who was assigned to us. Our orders took an incredible amount of time. We considered saying forget it, but then it came out. Cost: Waaaay to expensive. Two people spent $29 for four plates off of the train, a spicy tuna (with only six pieces for $8!), and two 1.99 nigiri orders. That is insane price tag. I've been to amazing Japanese places and ate way better food for that same price. Also, I've been to conveyor belt sushi places in Chicago (where everything is more expensive) and gotten literally twice the food, 4x better quality, for right around $20. Train: A novel idea, but there are some problems with it. First of all, they stack the thing with specialty rolls, which are labeled with tiny handwritten descriptions that you try to read as the train moves on. Some plates don't even have descriptions, and for the expensive cost per plate, there is no way I'm going to risk taking something when I don't know what it is. They should really have a majority of simple rolls and some specialty items. They should really use microsoft word and put a photo of the roll in the doc, with a typed out description and include that with the food. The plastic covers for the food are fogged up too, so you cant see half the stuff. I saw someone put a plate back onto the train (which is a big no-no). After that, I was done eating things off of it. We were there for lunch for about an hour, because service was so slow, and saw the same rolls pass us that entire time. That's why they need basic things so they go faster, and they'd probably retain customers for the lower price points. Food: Ugh. Girlfriend didn't finish spicy tuna roll (in 6 years she has never done that). Rolls on train were bland. I like to order inari and egg nigiri to judge a places food. They are so basic so it's a good gauge. Inari was ok, egg just came out of the fridge and was tasteless almost like they made it using water. In all the rolls the rice was pink. WHY is the rice pink?? I have never seen that in my whole life. If it was an amazing place I wouldn't question it. But since everything was not very good, it made us more suspicious that anything else. Still makes me wonder, what the heck is up with that rice?? Outside: Sometimes you can judge a book by it's cover. The sign is kinda dumpy, and when we saw that we said, "hmm, should we try it?" We decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, and had a forgettable (taste) but memorable (disbelief that we spent that much) lunch. The people who own it, I think have the best intentions. They should really get a graphic designer for their written things, go to many other conveyor belt sushi places to get an idea of what the standard is in terms of service and decor, hire staff who seem like they've done this before, and improve the quality of the food.

My favorite sushi. Unfortunately, I eat a lot of sushi so I never get out of there for under $30. Pretty expensive to me, but I'm a broke college student.

Walked in and just as quickly walked out. Food on train looked disgusting. Crab roll, cream cheese, fried everything. Way to make the simplest of foods - sushi, completely unappetizing. Sushi Train? Nawh, I'll take the bus.

My husband and I used to eat here all the time. We hadn't been in so long purely because we've been trying to branch out and try new places. However, we had a craving for sushi this weekend and knew exactly where to go. This is still my favorite place. Sadly it seems that business may not be so good for this restaurant. We went on a Saturday night around 6:30 and the restaurant was not even half full. Hopefully it was just a fluke. We received great service and ordered an appetizer off the menu. We enjoyed several plates of sushi from the train. One plate however was not up to par. The roll seemed to be soggy and may have been sitting there for a bit too long. The flavor was still great, just fell apart when picked up. It picked up a little bit while we were there, but we used to have to wait for seating and then only have the option of sitting in the stools, which is the least desirable seat for me. Hopefully this was a fluke and not a trend. I would hate to see this place go and will be sure and visit more often.

Sushi Train is very hit or miss, for a few reasons. The first is the actual train. Sometimes the sushi on the train is really good, other times not so much. It's never terrible though. I think it's fun and inexpensive to eat off the train but don't come in with high expectations. The second thing is the rolls themselves. Sometimes when I eat there the rolls are way too saucy, even for someone like me that occasionally craves those kinds of rolls. Also the nigiri here was really disappointing. Very bland rice (it honestly didn't taste like sushi rice, just plain rice), no wasabi (or at least it didn't taste like there was any) and there was tons of rice and barely any shrimp. I know nigiri doesn't contain huge, thick pieces of fish but this was even less than what I'm used to. Some of their rolls are also a bit big, with stuff not only inside the roll but outside as well. Lastly is the service, which is also spotty. Sometimes it's great, other times not so much. The good thing about sushi train is that is affordable and generally good. I've had many good experiences here and only a few that were disappointing. They also deliver, which is pretty cool. If you are within 10 miles it's a 5 dollar fee with no minimum order, and if you are within 5 miles it's a 3 dollar fee. I've only ordered delivery once but it was fast and the driver was polite. If you're looking for a fast, fun, and inexpensive sushi experience Sushi Train might be good for you. If you're looking for high quality, simple rolls this isn't your place.

Me and my wife would come here for Sushi regularly. However, it seems the service is getting worse recently. We will not go back as 3 times of very poor service is too many. The first two times we were brought the wrong food. We even specified what we wanted. It was extravagant either, California Role with cream cheese. Tonight, we ordered the same thing, California roles with 2 orders of fried rice. We received the sushi, but had to ask for fried rice after waiting 20 minutes. When I expressed how I was upset about the service, the manager responded "well you ate the food". We did, but after 30 minutes from the time after we received Sushi. It just seemed that no one really cared about their job. It's too bad as the food does taste good. There are just so many options for the same type of food around.

Food always is passable. Got my entree first, then my soup. Had to cancel my edemame altogether after I got my soup. No spoon or saucer for my green tea, just a cup of water with a tea bag. I want to say they were very nice just terribly untrained and and unorganized. My tab, for two, was $26 & change. They could improve their service a lot but it's a decent value.

Disgusting, horrifying, and just plain wrong. The sushi is made with low, low, quality fish ((that is half the time just old)) smashed together with many things non-traditional and simply not good. There's no real sushi, just rolls made from amateurs trying to play pretend Sushi Chef. Along with that is the health code violations you see every which way. Back home in Japan, this wouldn't even be dollar sushi. It would simply be closed.

We come here 3 or 4 times a month and it's always great. Good sushi for a great price! The owner is always around to help and the staff hardly ever change which must say something about their job satisfaction! I've always been happy with the quality of their fish and all of their menu offerings.

I took my husband tonight while our son was at an away football game I couldn't make because of travel limitations (bad back). This was his first time going, and he has never had sushi, but is a train enthusiast and wanted to see the train and then order some chicken fried rice. We arrived and it was Friday evening and the place was packed. There was no seating but finally we saw a booth by the train getting cleaned so we went over there to wait for it. The bus person took his sweet time cleaning the booth, to the point we almost lost our spot because another couple came in about 3 minutes later and started waiting on our spot. We sit down and the same bus person asked us our beverage order, and we had to ask for a menu for hubby. I made a few selections from the train, and held off on eating them until hubby's order was placed and received. Then, we had multiple servers come by, not very often, during our meal to check on us. They appeared to be exhausted, the enthusiasm level was just not there. As for the train? Hubby loved it and said it was a very high end train. He also liked that a train horn would go off when an order from the kitchen was ready. Okay, the crux of the matter...the food. I had a harmony roll and the train made several passes and I still was not finding any sort of roll I wanted, and the sushi chefs noticed I kept watching and not taking, so they asked me if there was anything I was waiting for. I was, and requested seared tuna nigiri. 2 nigiri was 4.00. A bit pricy if you ask me, but I went ahead and accepted it, because I've liked it in the past. Hubby ordered and received chicken fried rice. He said it was okay, but preferred pho da cao's rice to Sushi Trains rice. He said the flavor tended to be under seasoned, and there was no salt or pepper on our table to add to it. The portion was big enough to satisfy his appetite. I finally, about 20 minutes in, had to ask a random server if they could bring me the ginger and wasabi and a cup for my soy sauce. Once I asked, it took another 2 minutes to receive. Once I was finally able to eat my Harmony Roll, it was delicious, and the tuna was so fresh and velvety. It was tasty and the avocado was fresh and not firm (they've done that to me once). Then I ate the nigiri, and the tuna was excellent! Just enough sear to emphasize the tuna flavor, but not so seared it felt like you had ordered cooked tuna. After a quick discussion about sushi, and informing hubby that not all sushi in America is raw, he decided to pull off a plate of "sunny pop". It is a fried shrimp with cream cheese, asparagus, and eel sauce. He tried it and absolutely loved it! Problem tonight though, was the rolls were being mass produced in flavors that apparently weren't crowd favorites, so the sunny pop roll never came back around for him to grab another dish had he wanted it. They also kept putting up sushi without the name tags on it, so you didn't know what it was unless you had had it before. So, even though the food was good, I rate this visit a 3 because of the sub-par customer service, and the variety of sushi on the train not really being varied. We will return, but if the wait staff keeps up the ho hum attitude, we will look for other places to eat sushi at.

We are frequent customers of Sushi Train. We think the food is great! The owners know us because we have been coming here for so long and they take great care of us. I read a lot of the other reviews and I get what some of the people are saying-sometimes the service can be off-but everyone that works there has been pretty friendly and they do try hard if you ask for something. Today we went for lunch and the guy at the front with the beard-I think his name is Lee- knows we are regulars and knows we like a booth. Some people were getting ready to leave, but to help speed things up he offered to take our order while we were waiting. Thought that was so nice. We don't usually take things off the train, though when we have everything has been good. We usually order the same thing-the EBI shrimp tempura roll, salmon nigiri, Salmon Roe Nigiri, salmon sashimi, a tuna roll and a philly roll. Love them all. I have had their egg drop soup and it is good too. I used to get their veggie stir fry a lot and that is really flavorful too. Some people complained about the service on the other reviews-I think part of it is due to a language barrier with some of the people that work there (may be the owner and he is super nice). Today I asked for something specific (an extra plate for my hot tea bag) and he didn't understand at first but worked hard at pleasing us til he understood. We go here for the food, not necessarily the atmosphere. It is not a bad atmosphere, it just isn't dressy or trendy or anything. We think the Sushi Train is a good value.

We love this place and make a point to go here when we want sushi. Not only is it fun to eat here due to the ability to grab and eat as the train passes, but the sushi is quite tasty. Sure, there are some hits and misses but now that we've been enough to try a large variety we know what we like. Usually we grab a menu, glance over what kinds we want to try, then look for it on the train. We always leave stuffed and satisfied. At first I felt like the prices were steep but after having sushi at other restaurants and being disappointed by lack of flavor, variety and selection, the prices at sushi train are right on par.

  • Brittany D.

I love the train, and the prices are so reasonable. However, I'm not impressed with the service. I was not checked on for nearly a half hour. The roll I ordered took all of that time, when before it took almost half the time.

I'm writing as I'm here so I don't forget. I was craving sushi today. I'm visiting from out of town so I don't know what's what In Tulsa. 1) grab a menu and ask for a soy sauce tray and wasabi / ginger & chopsticks. It took me 15 min to get the basics that you need at a literal grab and eat place. 2) order off the menu. The train idea is cute, but the plates are small. The sushi is barely cool from the train. So if you like it cold- order fresh from sushi chefs. 3) Get up to order from anyone you can find. - or you will wait 25 min to order anything at all. 4) The prices of each plate(color/pattern) are up on the wall. I only saw this as I was paying. All in all, the sushi was ok, the idea is fun, but the general things you expect from a sushi restaurant (any waiter, chopsticks, soy sauce cups, a drink) will leave you upset, frustrated or confused. Like.... Am I supposed to get these things myself? Think twice if you're hungry or a sushi freak. Note: I'm here on a Monday, not a busy Friday. No idea how they keep people coming back. OK, if you have low expectations and the patience of a saint.

I love the Sushi Train! Used to go there every week for a long time on my lunch break. They knew my face right away and always asked about our day. I had a scary mishap where I thought I was having serious food allergies. The staff made sure I was able to still eat here.

I live out of town, but when I'm in Tulsa each year, I really love the Sushi Train. It's not much to look at from the outside, but the food inside perfect. I'm not an exotic sushi lover at all (eel, yuk)...i love the basics and i love it spicy. So Sushi train's Spicy California, Lisa, and Tango (AWESOME!!!) are my go-to's. I'm from a much larger city and can't seem to find anything like this back home. The wait staff service is definitely inconsistent, but all I want is the usual drink/chopsticks/wasabi and then I'm either pulling from the train or asking the chefs, and that part works perfectly. I especially like that you can ask the chefs to stock the train with a roll you like, and basically get a variety of half rolls that you love off the train for cheap. Overall, highly recommended!

Great idea and concept, but not that good at all. Horrible service. As soon as I finished my water, it never got refilled. I was gonna grab another roll off the train too, but didn't because of that. Kinda glad I didn't though, cause all 4 rolls that I tried were just OK at best. 2 of them were actually horrible. I eat sushi a ton too. Definitely not going back.

I have actually been back twice since my last review... I cant help myself I'm a giver of second chances. The wait staff is totally different. They have actually improved. They are very nice, they check in with you. The customer service is genuinely improving and that makes me so happy because the sushi is so good and affordable!

I really enjoy Sushi train. You won't get the greatest service, but for some reason, I find myself lost in this place. I mean that in a good way. It has a great atmosphere. This place almost feels like a favorite bar you often go to. The train is a fun set up too. I can't say it's the best sushi in town, but you'll definitely be entertained.

Oh why did I stray... My daughter and I wanted to give this place a try. Came in and it was packed, ok good sign or maybe those here on Saturday night just want some cheap entertainment by watching a train deliver some low quality sushi. In any case was seated in a booth along the track. Mind you it was close to two hours before closing time on a Saturday night. Most of the items on the train seemed to have been sitting for some time. I think they pull items from the train, replace with those that have been siting awhile to wait their return as "fresh items". After choosing a few plates the waiter seemed to disappear. Could not seem to get anyone's attention to refill our water. Was also not given any menus at all. Daughter not a huge sushi fan and wanted to see what cooked items they offered. I guess they just did not want to fire up the kitchen. The most offensive thing that happened is that with one over 90 minutes before they closed, all sushi chefs decided to pull most of the fish and proceed to clean everything up. They all sprayed heavy disinfectant all over the prep areas. This proceed to create an unpleasant smell. We both lost our appetite. Entire bill for seven plates and some miso soup ran $22. Told the owner and several other waitresses that our meal was fair at best. All said "sorry" and that was about it. Nothing was done to try and rectify what took place. Seriously doubt I would go back. If you are looking for lower end sushi at rock bottom prices then sit along the track. Enjoy the smell of disinfectant as well. Save you bucks and spend a few more and head over to Tokyo sushi in BA, freshest place in town and well worth the $20 bucks they charge you for all you can eat.

Came here for lunch on a weekday. Sat at the counter to get full access to the train that goes around. In summary, the small plates were very overpriced for what you get. I don't know why other reviewers say it's cheap and you get a lot of food. You get like 3-4 small pieces on each dish, and each dish costs several dollars. It adds up quick when you are hungry. It's a trick because they fool you into eating more plates without realizing the total cost until it is too late. Furthermore, the sushi is just bad quality. It tasted old. This fish had strange old colors, very unappetizing and unappealing. I felt like it had been sitting on the counter for a long time. The sushi is made and sits on that sushi train all day, so you have no idea how old that sushi is that you get off the train. With those ambient temperatures, I suspect the raw fish gets spoiled pretty easily. I get better sushi at the supermarket. The decor is outdated. If you really look in at the kitchen in the middle, it's not the cleanest place. There is a Reasors next door, and Sprouts up the street, and I would recommend going there to get supermarket sushi instead of going to this place. I will not go again to sushi train. Poor quality, overpriced, poor decor.

Thinking back to my experience here, I pretty much set myself up for failure on this one. So yes, I blame myself. I came with specific high expectations after watching Jiro Dreams of Sushi (documentary about Jiro Ono, THE sushi master, MUST watch for sushi-lovers). After dreaming all night of sushi and being still on the look-out for sushi places around town, I decided to indulge my craving the very next day. No sushi in Tulsa will ever be as good as Jiro's (obviously) but I was also particularly excited about the popular conveyor belt (actual train here) sushi. Thinking of the stream of plates winding through on a cute train waiting for me to grab them as I pleased sounded very fun. I was NOT mistaken. It is awesome to sit there and try to get a glance at what is on the sushi-go-round and attempt to grab them next time they passed by before someone else does. A bit thrilling and definitely the highlight here. I'm sure kids would love that too. They have a color system for customers to identify the different prices on the belt (pretty simple and clever). It is very affordable. Now, let's think of some logistic difficulties that the train might bring. If sushi does not get eaten fast enough, it will get dry after rotating for a long time. I am unaware of what system is in place (if any) to remove sushi that has rotated for too long. I tried FOUR different rolls (six if you include my date's) and none of them satisfied my sushi craving. They were edible but mediocre. None of them truly wowed me, and let me tell you, after watching Jiro, I was begging to be wowed. I do have to say I was impressed by the options of different levels of "hotness", that is fun for any spiciness-lover. Sadly, I left disappointed and un-sushi-satisfied. I guess special orders are available and you don't have to sit on the bar with the train, but what's the fun in that? So! If what you want is fast-food sushi and you're in it more for the fun experience rather than quality, this is the place to go.

Me and my boyfriend went at 12:00 on a Friday which means the place was packed and sadly there was no place to sit at the sushi train. We ordered from the menu. I got the Arizona Roll (BBQ eel, avocado, cream cheese, and some kind of sauce) and a Crunchy Philly Roll (Smoked Salmon, cream cheese, and avocado). I guess you can tell I enjoy cream cheese and avocado! My bf got a California Roll and a Crunchy California roll (Crab salad, cucumber and avocado). We also got an order of chicken fried rice which I thought was delicious. We both enjoyed our sushi. It was my first sushi experience in Tulsa and while it wasn't the BEST sushi ever, I would go back to this place. The only thing I didn't really enjoy (And yes, I know this is a petty thing to complain about) was the wooden benches with no back. It would make for an uncomfortable visit if you were there a while :-/

Sushi Train is one of my favorite places to go in Tulsa! They've got a great set up that my kids love, as well as a kids menu that isn't sushi related so that we get the best of both worlds. The owner, Lee, is awesome. I love coming here!

  • sara r.

Came in with 4 hungry, squirmy kids. They loved the whole set up. I was surprised to find that their sushi was good too. (And I'm no push over.) It is, however, quite good by Tulsa standards. (Too many rolls with cream cheese, but what can you do?) It can definitely hold it's own with In the Raw and Fuji. Adding in the price and kid appeal, I'd say they come out way ahead for families.

I cringed when my brother and sister said they wanted to go to sushi train when I was in town. My sister swears to a salmon roll that they have, but the thought of sushi trucking along a moving train was gross enough for me. I have no idea how long that has been sitting there or who has touched it and put it back. I insisted we order from the menu and won, of course. We went at 2pm, well after the lunch rush and barely anyone was there, but it took them over an hour to get our orders out. In the meantime, our waters were not refilled and I became so hungry I grabbed the most recent sushi from the train, which we also couldn't eat because we didn't have soy sauce or wasabi. It took them over 15 minutes, after two reminders, to get us basic dishes and condiments. The sushi was edible at best. The sashimi pieces weren't cut properly so you had bands of connective tissue that were overly chewy. The basic spicy rolls had way too much rice, but I think that's a widespread sushi issue in Tulsa. The only ok thing was my sister's salmon roll, which was a bread-salmon mixture well cooked sitting on some rice. I guess if you're looking for low (the lowest possible without dying) quality sushi, come here. It's dirt cheap, but for what you get, it's not a deal. I will not be coming back.

You go to Sushi Train for the fun experience of being delivered sushi on a train, not the quality. While it is not the worst quality, don't expect the best with this price. I have been multiple times just for a fun lunch and decent sushi, that didn't break the bank.

it was my birthday on saturday and I ordered sushi to feed a houseful of my friends (there were probably 30 people at my party). I ordered a LOT of sushi. I mean, 30 people to feed, right??? I told them around 7.30 for a delivery would be fine, since I knew that was right around the dinner rush I wanted to be flexible. My doorbell rang AT 7.30 with my sushi. Not only was it beautifully prepared on 2 very large serving platters, the fish was still cold, and both trays were absolutly stunning (yes, i used the word STUNNING for food, LOL) in presentation. My Guests were very impressed, and several had never had sushi before so for a first time experience for newbies, I couldnt have asked for better service. there was plenty of wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce as well as chopsticks for an army. I could not have asked for better service or better food for a big day for me. thanks Sushi Train, you keep reinforcing my belief that this is the best in town.

Went to lunch here with my wife, and we enjoyed ourselves. For $20 we filled up on a variety of sushi. Great variety available at your fingertips, if you eat from the bar, and grab off the train. There is also a menu available, if you have something special in mind. The food tasted great.

This place is BAD BAD BAD. If you're from Tulsa, enjoy, because this is as good as it gets in this city. If you're not, maybe stick to beef while your in Tulsa. I would NOT get sushi.

Sushi train is a great place for quick sushi and a very wide variety, management and staff are very friendly and the train is very cool. Kids live the atmosphere and the train as there is always families in there. The food is great and they will make whatever isn't on the train for you.

Everything on the train consists of cream cheese. So I guess if you're into that thing then go for it! You can order off the menu, but personally I prefer Ashai, they have 1/2 price sushi that is delicious.

I had the Deluxe Sashimi for lunch today. It was the WORST $20 I've ever spent on a sashimi dish. Never had I have to use toothpick after eating sashimi like today. That itself can tell you that the chefs there don't even know how to cut the sashimi pcs the right way, not to mention the tasteless tuna and ugly presentation of the dish, Totally unsatisfied with the place.

It was pretty yummy sushi, and a great deal. My hubby and I ate until we were stuffed for around $35! The train is fun and makes for a lighthearted, entertaining experience. The wait staff was friendly. The TNT roll is quite possibly the hottest thing I have ever eaten!!

Sushi is good and prices are fair. There is a wide selection of rolls available as well as other faire and specialty selection. The staff and chefs are very friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and seat-yourself. A great place for a first date or for "blind" taste - testing.

Always enjoy my meal here at sushi train, but this time I decided to go big and get the kraken. It was wonderful! Well worth the price and wait! Also enjoyed some of the newer rolls we tried! The Aguilar and sunny Pop were very good and I would always recommend my personal favorite, the krusty krab roll! Always great atmosphere and wonderful service!
