The treatment we received from the owner, Emeline, was so outlandish, it's hard to even type this review for fear of sounding exaggerated. We made reservations for high tea for three tables for my best friend's wedding shower. The original reservation made a month prior was for four tables, just to be safe, but the maid of honor cut it down to two full tables and a third table with just one or two girls. This was after she received all the RSVPs two days before. The owner called her to confirm the reservation and was very harsh on the phone. I'm not sure what she said, exactly, I just know it was said in a loud tone. We showed up for our reservation, and only ended up needing two tables because a couple of girls had to cancel at the last minute. Because Emeline, the owner, wasn't able to have reserved our extra/unused table in advance, she was EXTREMELY upset. We're all rational and realized that she had cause to be frustrated. But restaurant owners/managers know that this kind of thing happens all the time, and should've understood it was out of our control. Side note: there was another table of four that was empty the whole time we were there. So if she really had to turn people away as she claimed, we all wondered why that one was available. As soon as we told her that we wouldn't need the third table, Emeline proceeded to chew us out. She rambled about how they lost business, had extra food, etc. She kept saying it was her own fault for not taking a credit card number from the person who made the reservation (which I presume she would've charged us for the extra people--at $18 each). However, she never actually told us that per their policy they would be charging us for everyone who we made a reservation for. She just complained each time she came out of the kitchen. We were flabbergasted. The third time she returned to complain a little more and "explain why she was upset," one of my friends said, "What would you like us to do? Would you like us to leave?" And the owner said, "No no no, I just want you to know why I'm upset." We were all stunned at her unprofessional behavior. We proceeded with the tea menu, which was limited because ONE out of the seven of us had a Groupon. We were only offered one type of tea (black). There was a platter for the whole group (rather than the individual tiered plates pictured on their website) of tea sandwiches, scones and desserts. The food wasn't bad-tasting. And the girls who had never eaten high tea liked it. Those of us who had previous "high tea" experiences knew that it was pretty lacking. The quality isn't the reason I'm writing this review, though. Unfortunately, there is a very sweet girl who waited on us toward the end. If she had been our only server, it would've been a much better experience. The worst part about this is that the owner clearly saw that this was a special occasion for us (the bride was wearing a cute little sash and tiara). If it hadn't been a special occasion, we definitely would've left after the first rude comment. Sadly, I don't see a bright future for Nibbles CafÃ© staying in business much longer.
