I love "spur of the moment" decisions because it makes life interesting and if the result turns out to be truly great, well, life doesn't get much better. Such was my second visit to one of Tulsa's newest restaurants, Napa Flats on the south side of Riverside Dr., 9912 S. Riverside Dr. (zip 74137). It was so good, in fact, I had to share the good news. Napa Flats, wood fired grill, located in one of the upscale strip centers is very near the intersection of Creek Turnpike and Riverside Dr.. There are several excellent restaurants in this same center and parking can be crowded. Although the restaurant's fame is quickly growing, as borne out by the number of diners, I was soon seated at 6:30 on Saturday evening. The wine and beverage list was a pleasant surprise because of its unique breadth of selection. A few years ago I lived in Santa Rosa, CA, and my friends and I were frequent visitors to most, if not all, of the Sonoma, Napa, Glen Ellen, and Russian River wineries. Napa Flat's wine selection has many of the well recognized vineyards in its wine cellar, but the surprising thing was the number of excellent smaller, boutique vineyards that most visitors are never aware of which are both very affordable and delicious. It was a difficult drink decision for I had dined here the week before and had the Summer Shanty which was so good that four others in my group had a couple of glasses each. To complicate matters, I felt I was leaning toward the rib dish because what St. Louis boy could resist a beer and a baby back rib dinner on a warm weekend in Tulsa. That's where I was heading until I looked at the selection of specialty drinks and noticed the Black and Blue or Blue and Black margarita that sounded intriguing--a muddling of blackberries and blueberries with Souza tequila, lime juice, sweet and sour mix, and an orange flavored liquor--maybe Cointreau. Once again, I made another spur of the moment decision and ordered the margarita which turned out to be an excellent flavor that countered the slight peppery flavors of the three items composing my meal. My waiter was Tyler and I cannot say enough about him and his sense of food knowledge which I would have expected from one with many, many more years of experience. He patiently helped me select the rib dish over several other interesting dishes that will just have to be sampled in the weeks ahead. The espresso glazed, grilled ribs, a grilled ear of corn with a wonderful brushing of a buttery and creamy sauce with a slight hint of a zingy pepper bite and a cabbage slaw with a hint of Sriracha which had the warmest heat of the three items--each just progressively warmer than the other comprised my meal. I am not talking fire eater fare here. It went from delicate to slightly more pronounced like fugues in Ravel's masterpiece, Bolero. The rib meat fell off the bone in moist chunks, but I still wanted to suck all the flavor from them and not miss a single, delicious morsel. The corn was cooked to perfection with plenty of sweet corn flavor mixed with the buttery cream and pepper sauce brushed over the top of the kernels. The ribs rested on the slaw. The three items were wonderfully paired to produce a most memorable meal. I think Napa Flats would be a versatile eatery whether you wanted to have a group business meeting, a cozy dinner with your special person, a family dinner with all the nieces, nephews, and grandparents. There is a nice, roomy outdoor patio area which would be more enjoyable once the weather turns cooler. The quality and prices beat Brookside and Cherry St. by several furlongs. The food is freshly made and quickly served. Try Napa Flats when you want to treat yourself to a "spur of the moment" dining experience. You'll be glad you did.

At first glance, this restaurant was a REALLY classy place. When our waiter arrived he informed us that almost everything is cooked with a wood fire. I ordered the sesame coated tuna and it was delicious. The tuna was coated in a thin layer of sesame seeds and cooked perfectly. The dressing on the tuna made it a refreshing lunch meal. The couscous was also one the best I've had. Nice and clean. Definitely a great place and would come back for sure.

We ordered the truffle and prosciutto pizza and the toppings were great. The bottom of the pizza was so black we sent it back just to get another pizza just as burned on the bottom. They should have checked the second pizza but did not. The wine selection was great but the service was just okay. Positives: mussels were wonderful and the atmosphere was great.

I just ate here for the first time, not surprising since it's brand new haha, and it was delicious!! To start they have wine on tap which I had never heard of but the Trouble Maker red was really good :) We ordered the Chonburi shrimp appetizer and it was very flavorful and a little spicy which I love!! The shrimp were a good size too! We all shared a few entrees so we could try a few things and it was a great idea. The carnivore pizza was Soo good. It had lots of meat. Pepperoni and steak and meatballs and some Italian ham or something but it was really great. The Tonys pasta was so good too but my favorite by far were the bbq ribs. I think it's honey espresso bbq sauce but the ribs fell off the bone. I never thought that my favorite bbq would be at an Italian restaurant haha. The red fish was okay but a little fishy for my taste. The texture was good though. I hate it when people dry out fish by cooking it too long. Final words, GET the brownie for dessert. Overall it was a little pricey but well worth it. Sooooo good!!!!

This place is amazing! We had the Palo Alto dip to start. It was delicious. Margaritas were wonderful, service was top notch. Will definitely return.

Was really disappointed with my first visit this Sunday afternoon. Group of 6 + kids ordered a variety of lunch menu items. Fish tacos, sandwich, dinner salad, and I had fish. No one bragged of a stand out. First, the decor is contemporary. The main dining room is totally open. A bar area boasts a couple screens. There are wine racks and a full bar. This is a chain that I believe originated in South Texas, per a Google search. Service was capable and friendly, no problems there. My concern is about the food and further informed by the prices. Starter: Palo Alto Dip Sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, and green onions blended with cream cheese and ricotta cheese. Served with Napa Flats bread. Tasty, (unfortunately) the highlight of the meal. Main: Red Fish Tropicale Fresh redfish with sliced avocado, tomato, roasted corn salsa and cilantro/citrus vinaigrette Over-cooked. Had I not been engrossed in conversation in a family dinner, I would have considered sending it back. It was listed on an inset menu as the "special lunch feature." I assumed, at this price, that it would have come with a side (even though none, other than salsa/ avocado was listed). The salsa was fresh and suitable accompaniment; but the fish was dried out to the point where -- again if not busy conversing -- I should have asked for a side of pesto/ cream sauce to try to rescue. I should have made a better choice for $19. Salad: upon realizing the fish was served a la carte, added a small Caesar. Only $2 addition was a good value. It was average. Over-dressed. Gelato: Took a styrofoam out with gelato to go -- chocolate and coconut flavors, to meet a friend. It's true that I put it in the freezer when reaching my destination. Friend & I later consumed. It was okay -- but nothing special that couldn't be obtained at a reasonably well-stocked supermarket. Summary: Service was good; no problems. Was disappointed with the over-priced, underwhelming food.

Sunday night about 6:30. Foods good... Not great. Service is good... Not great! We had ribs that were not juicy and covered in sauce.. Not real BBQ. And Garlic chicken that was dark meat?? The Chicken pasta loaded with chicken. Pepperoni pizza that was thin and greasy. Parmesan salad with iceberg lettuce was good! Kale salad was excellent! We would have had Salmon but they were out? Also out of Redfish? Cocktails seemed extra weak?? Here's the bonus on this place..they have one person dedicated to making fresh gelato every day!! They also have a counter in the front for the restaurant where you can buy gelato to go! We had several different flavors for dessert and it was excellent! However, I won't be returning because of the POOR ventilation ... My clothes and I smelled like I worked in a pizza kitchen!!

We went to Napa Flats last night for the first time. I was pretty pumped to try a new place in Tulsa. First let me say that if I was basing this review on food alone they would get at least four stars. We had the Palo Alto dip as an appetizer and oh my god, it is the thing dreams are made of. In the future I'll probably just go get wine on tap (yes, they have wine on tap. Like what?!) and that dip. Yummmmm. For entrees I had the poblano Mac and cheese. You guys already know how I feel about Mac and cheese. And this was pretty good, if not a little bland. Although it was the perfect amount of spicy. My boyfriend had the carnivore pizza and I'm pretty sure it was his dream come true. Portion size was great and we had a lot to take home with us. We also had the gelato and it is a must have. I'm taking Napa Flats down to three stars solely because of our waitress (I really hate to complain about the staff, but...). Not only was she just totally stand-offish, but she often came off as rude and condescending. I also felt like she rushed us multiple times. Others waiters that came to our table were great though. The owner also stopped by our table and was a really nice guy! Like I said, I hate to criticize the service, but unfortunately it can really make or break the experience. We'll definitely go again, I just hope we have a different server.

Enjoyed the service and the food. I had the pork tenderloin and she had the gluten free pizza with prosciutto. The pork tenderloin was tender, flavorful and came with a balsamic vinegar that added a nice complementary flavor of the pork. The gluten free pizza crust was pretty good and the only complaint I had was the prosciutto was a little too salty. The service went above and beyond. They told us they burned the first pizza and gave us a free appetizer to make up for it. The waiter was knowledgeable about the food and the alcohol selections. The atmosphere is a little stark and sterile to be honest, but the food and service more than makes up for it. It's been a couple months since I've been and I'm still thinking about that pork tenderloin.

We stopped in here after a morning at the Oklahoma Aquarium. We found Napa Flats on Yelp and after a 5 minute drive were comfortably settled in. We started with the Palo Alto Dip and our waiter described it perfectly....delicious. We each had a salad - Cobb and a Beet and Arugula salad. Since it was nearly 100 degrees outside the salads were refreshing. Full of loads of fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. Our waiter was kind enough to bring some grilled flatbread for our infant which was also a hit. We would definitely return for items off the wood fire grill which left a slight yet lovely aroma in the air.

This place is the best! Had the lamb sandwich and it was great. I will defiantly be back to try the pizza and their awesome looking desserts.

For the price this place is absolutely not worth it. We decided to try the Mush n Spin pizza and the Costa Rican White Fish, with a side of Brussels sprouts. The pizza lacked serious flavor, it had decent crust but tasteless mushrooms and cheese. The white fish came with soggy vegetables in a greasy (definitely not creamy) white sauce. The overwhelming flavor of the entire dish was table salt. The fish was so over done, nothing could mask the burnt flavor, not even the sauce. The Brussels sprouts were the same story, greasy and salty. I cannot recommend this place, I will not return.

Nothing to write home to momma Mia about. Had the rib eye tonite and it was way to lean for me. No taste without some fat in it. As one other reviewer said, they need Pepsi at the joint. Pretty loud when we were in there but they did a nice job of fixing the place up. In the future will spend my money next door at Red Rock

Pizza & Gelato ... Enough said! The food is delicious, and the service is excellent! The manager walks around to check on each table, and the restaurant is very clean. This was one of my favorite restaurants during my month stay in Tulsa!

Outdoor ambience is just lovely, alongside Arkansas River. Prices not bad. Food, itself was missing flavor. The salad with spinach and fruit was lack luster. Needed more fruits and nuts and a sweeter overall taste. Pizza was not as tasty as Naples Flatbread. Again, flat tasting and lackluster. The spinach/artichoke dip was truly delicious. Will go again for ambience and another try of food. Like to give a new place two chances.

Absolutely fantastic food... Starting with my iced tea, made with reverse osmosis water amazing! The meal was citrus chicken with spinach and a side of the most amazing Brussels sprouts! I'm in love with this place! Delish!!!

Love Napa Flats! They have a great menu - the pizza's are amazing! The fresh guacamole appetizer and the caprese salad are a must have! The Gelato selection is huge. I love the wine-on-tap feature and the big selection of beverages. It is a smaller establishment so it can get kind of loud but the new patio feature is a great option with great views.

Great experience. Started with the Ahi tuna appetizer which was cooked perfectly and the couscous had a great flavor. My wife and I split the Cobb salad and the margarita pizza. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. They have wine on tap which is unique and great if you like to sample different wines. Our server Katy was very friendly and attentive. Finished with the banana crumble which was a interesting take on a bananas Foster. Price was very reasonable as we got the quality and service of a more expensive restaurant. Excellent value and a new favorite.

We had an excellent dining experience here on a Saturday night. I like that the menu has tons of options, but not so many that you are overwhelmed. We ordered the Palo Alto dip (delicious and piping hot), a pepperoni pizza (tons of cheese and huge pepps), pork tenderloin (breaded and served with a delicious caprese-type salad) and the ribeye. Everything was delicious and prepared well. Two managers stopped by and thanked us for coming in. The drink menu has many options and there are also lots of wines available including tap wine (which is a great option for your wallet). We ended with gelato (pink lady- strawberry & black pepper and chocolate/cinnamon). Service was fantastic! Would absolutely recommend this place!

Some really good stuff here! First the pros: PROS: vegetables were wonderful. The fresh green beans were sautéed with garlic and were just delicious. Brussel sprouts were very tasty and such a refreshing change from the average fare. Atmosphere was really nice. An enjoyable, relaxing atmosphere with nice decor. It was a busy night and the noise level was very tolerable. Iced Tea was wonderful. Service was outstanding from start to finish. Appreciated the fact that the manager stopped by the table to check in. Very customer oriented! CONS: disappointed in lack of fat and marbling in rib-eye. The flavor was good but did not compensate for the lack of fat. I think the mythologies about the "dangers" of fat have been put to rest so I don't understand why the most flavorful part of the steak was eliminated. Liked that this was grass fed, chemical free beef, but again, flavor was sacrificed with no fat.

Really good. The filet is amazing, one of the most tender filets I've ever had before. Great atmosphere.

Ate there last night and was really impressed. Food was great, good presentation and flavor. We had the salmon with sautéed spinach (tasty but small portion), ribs which were different from traditional BBQ ribs but equally delicious, and the carnivores pizza. Gelato was very good as well. Service was slow and a bit confused, but I hope that will work out over time.

I'm typically a big fan of anywhere with "Napa" in the name, so I was looking forward to trying Napa Flats. The restaurant is tastefully decorated- contemporary, casual, and comfortable. I didn't try any of the cocktails, but I do have a small bone to pick with the wine list-- the restaurant is called NAPA flats and the wine list contains only a very small handful of wines actually from Napa Valley!! Just a weird thing that didn't escape my notice. I will say, though, that the wine list contained a great selection of reasonably priced wines by the glass. Our group started with the Calamari and Mediterranean Plate. The calamari was decent-- a cornmeal batter that could have used a little more salt. I really liked the fried zucchini added to the mix. The Mediterranean Plate, on the other hand, was a disappointment. Yes, it contained the tabbouleh, 2 types of hummus, and tapenade, and tzatziki as advertised, but the portions--especially of the hummus--were embarrassingly small. The hummus was seriously little 2 tablespoon-sized scoops. The plate was served with carrots cut width-wise (like little coins) and cucumbers. Serving carrots like that for dipping was really odd, and the cucumbers looked brown-tinged. I am not sure what happened here- maybe they ran out of the normal produce? Most of the table ordered standard-flavor pizzas (i.e., pepperoni). The crust was thin and nicely bubbled around the edges. Unfortunately, everyone's pizza was floating in a pool of its own grease on the plate. Really gross and disappointing considering the pizza toppings were actually pretty good. I opted for the Grilled Verlasso Salmon, which claimed to have a sun-dried tomato sauce and a balsamic glaze along with a cucumber and arugula salad. The salmon was grilled to perfection, and I loved the balsamic glaze. The sun-dried tomato sauce, on the other hand, was a poor flavor match and appeared to be made with stewed tomatoes rather than sun-dried. I think the chef needs to make up his mind here- either tomato or balsamic glaze. The cucumber and arugula salad suffered from the same freshness problems I encountered with the Mediterranean Plate. The greens appeared slightly bruised/ a day past their prime-- like bagged salad that was starting to wilt. There were even a few slightly yellow leaves in the mix. I think this is a quality control issue that someone really should have caught on the line. We ended the night with an assortment of the house-made gelatos. Our very attentive and nice server wasn't very good at explaining the classic Italian flavors (such as stracciatella), but the gelato itself was fantastic. Served with a traditional wafer and tiny spoon. The restaurant boasts a small gelato "station" at the front of the restaurant if you want to pop in for some dessert to go. I would have preferred that dine-in guests were served the gelato in a glass dish as opposed to the plastic cups given out up front, but it tasted great nevertheless. I'll give Napa Flats another shot sometime. Maybe they just need a little time to sort out their produce freshness and quality control issues.

We ate there for a late lunch on a weekend. Our party of four tried something out of every category. For appetizers, the signature Palo Alto dip, and a Mediterranean platter of hummus, tabouli, etc. I'll confess that I was not a fan of the tapenade because I prefer mine to be made with black olives, but I'm not complaining....everything else on the platter was very good. The salad with roasted beets was also a winner. I could've passed on getting an entree by the time I finished with it, and I practically licked the bowl clean. We had a wide variety of entrees....meatball panini, burger, grilled salmon, and steak kabob. I will go so far as to say the salmon was one of the best I've had in town. The fish oil was preserved in the grilling process and it had a rich flavor that you don't find very often unless you are on a coast. The steak kabob was very flavorful, and grilled to perfection. Last but not least we decided to try the desserts even though we were stuffed. The gluten free brownie, was reminiscent of baked fudge, and the gelato on top was very, very good...I asked for vanilla gelato instead of the recommended peanut butter. The berry cobbler, served in a cast iron skillet was also very good, served with cinnamon gelato. Gelatos are made in house, they have a nice selection of wines on tap. Interior is classy, upscale and comfortable, and the aroma of the wood stove is inviting. Nice view. It's great to have three restaurants in this shopping center that are excellent dining choices.....Sushi Hana, Red Rock, and now Napa Flats.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
