Great pork Carnitas. I like their shrimp tacos for a healthy lunch or dinners. Their salsa is good. But the chips are served whole as in a tostada shell. Wish they were quartered like other places. It does keep me from eating so many chips that I am full before I get my food!

Guys, I seriously LOVED this place. I'm talking three times a week loved. But the other week, my husband and I went in to eat, and they dropped their usual tortilla chips and salsa at our table and when we reached to pull out the salsa dishes, there was a LIVE ROACH inside the basket. Live. Not dead. I can only imagine how many more are back in the kitchen if one could make it into the chip basket, and that's why we walked out and will NEVER be returning. And I'm STILL sad when I think about it, because this place really "gets" great Mexican food.

I just tried La Hacienda a few months ago and have been back four times since. Their ingredients are fresh. They have hotter salsa if you ask for it. Their chips do come as tostadas but that is practically the same thing as a chip, you just have to break it yourself. Their prices are great for the quality and the staff has been attentive and kind every time I've been.

We are new to Tulsa and have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant and think we've found it here at La Hacienda. The service was excellent and food was delicious, we'll definitely be back!

Wonderful, tasty, clean and friendly (even with our baby), we had a perfect lunch here. My wife's fajitas hit the spot, sizzling like they should. I had the chimichanga, and while I prefer to have grilled peppers and onions in my chimichanga, I can't really complain about the mound if chicken stuffed in my fried tortilla. I've never had big round "chips" quite like theirs, and the hotter salsa (we had to ask for it) had a pleasantly subtle smokiness that surprised us. Next time, I'll ask for an even hotter salsa. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

I went here after reading the reviews but was let down. The service was great, the dining area clean, but the food was not very good. The chips were... not chips. They are flat tortillas that you break up to eat. The steak fajitas were tough and chewy with little to no veggies. Overall, not impressed and I would not come here again.

I don't know how this got rated so highly. This place is disgusting. The food is bland and has no flavor. Everything tastes the same...like nothing. We will NEVER go here again. Such a waste of money. We bought a gift certificate from restaurant.com and spent the amount we were required to as stated on the certificate. Then we were told we couldn't use it. Total fail.

This is a decent AUTHENTIC mexican restaurant. It's home style. When you walk in the door you are greeted by a staff of hispanic women and then seated at a table and chairs that you would find in any 1990's family dining room. It's pretty cool. I had the carnita's and I have to say that I wasn't impressed. It could have been the time of day that we went which was around 7:00 and they close at 8:00p. They were very very dry and not flavorful. I noticed that everybody raves about their refried beans, I gotta say, I couldn't find anything special about them. The reason I gave this restaurant 3 stars is b/c I enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the margarita! They have darn good margaritas!! I am going to try this restaurant again, just at a different time.

This place is a hidden gem. The wife, a friend, and I went to eat here a couple weeks ago for dinner. My first thought was wow this place is kinda hard to find if you don't know where it is located. My second thought was "this place is really small but they have actual dinner tables like you would see in someone's home." NICE! Anyway on to the food. Chips and salsa came out first. Now this salsa was just something else. Definitely homemade and very very tasty. Instead of bringing you chips they bring you whole corn tortillas that have been fried I would assume. I am sure this is so you won't eat some many but we did anyway. I ordered one tamale since see said they were homemade and a carnitas burrito. Now I have had hand made tamales by mexican women and I love them therefore I don't order them at restaurants. This one was very good and would have been better if there wasn't so much red sauce on the top, but very nice. This burrito came and I was larger than my forearm, a lot more than I could eat. My only complaint was that the pork was just a little on the dry side, but still very good. I believe the wife was indifferent about her meal but I think that she just needs another trip. I also hear that their breakfast is pretty tasty as well.

The one thing that sold me on this place was that their beans did not taste burnt. Everything is fresh and very good. Ask for the spicier hot sauce. A year or more ago, the service was unbearable, but that is all fixed and it is great.

Salut mes amis! Oh wait, wrong language. La Hacienda is a cozy Mexican joint right next to the Tulsa Ballet on Peoria. I'd never heard of it before being invited for a dinner with 6 other people. Someone was running late so we waited a while to order. Now this is a good thing for my impulse control, but not a good thing if you are looking for a good appetizer:: They gave us tortilla shells instead of chips. A bowl of tortilla shells and salsa were put on the table as we waited to order - it was kind of bizarre. They weren't very good tortilla shells and I didn't need to eat them but if I'd wanted to eat them, I would've been a little p-o'd. Our last guest arrived and we were ready to order. It took us about 20 minutes to get a waiter over to the table. I kept looking back toward the kitchen with a not-so-subtle "I'm hungry!" face! Finally we had to go up and ask for someone to come take our order I ordered the chicken fajitas. They were pretty great. Charred veggies and chicken (which I like), rice, beans, guac, sour cream, pico. The rice was decent - nothing special at all. But I did enjoy it - kind of hard not to enjoy grilled chicken, peppers and onions. I may try La Hacienda again but I'm in no rush to go back. Word on the street is they have good breakfast.

I have been dining at La Hacienda for about 6 or 7 years now, and it has been consistently satisfying. Their menu is huge, consisting of not only combo platters (tacos, enchiladas, rellenos, tamales), but also breakfast items such as chorizo and eggs, and house specialties, such as one of the better carnitas dishes I have had in Tulsa. Chips and salsa are served. The prices are very affordable and the food always comes out hot. Located in a shopping center (in the space that, I believe, used to be Blockbuster Video in the 80s), the ambiance is not very impressive, as others have mentioned. Wooden tables, carpet, some paintings on the wall...basically a very plain interior. However, the restaurant itself is always clean and comfortable. The service at times can be a bit cold; I have noticed on many occasions that the server will not return to the table for quite some time to check up on guests, which can be a bother if extra napkins or condiments are needed. I would recommend La Hacienda to anyone that wants to skip the national and regional Tex Mex chains. There is enough variety on the menu to please both the conservative eater that enjoys Tex Mex dishes, as well as the purist who feels more comfortable in an authentic, hole-in-the-wall joint further north or in East Tulsa.

I have to admit, I have only been to this place for breakfast. Never once tried anything other than their omelettes. But I absolutely love their breakfast! I moved away from the Tulsa area a year ago but when I get back into town to visit family, this is one of my stops that I have to make. The service has never impressed me and that's why this isn't a five star review. It's OK but nothing that ever has stood out. However, the omelettes are huge and the home fries are very good. Now, just because an omelette is huge doesn't earn it four stars. It's also very tasty. I typically order the chicken fajita omelette (I think that's the name) and it satisfies every time. I suppose at some point I will need to stop in for something other than breakfast but this place is on my short list when I want to go out to eat for a great omelette in Tulsa. Check it out!

Legit, tasty Mexican food at low prices. Friendly, efficient staff. It'd be five stars easily if it wasn't for the complete and total lack of ambiance. Go here when you want good Mexican, not when you want to impress a date.

A truly authentic Mexican experience in a tiny, almost homelike environment. While there's no ambiance to speak of and the servers are passably nice the food is really good and authentic. There is a bit of a language barrier - at least with our server, but between my limited knowledge of Spanish and her limited knowledge of English we worked it out. This is definitely a no frills place but the food is worth it. I would definitely return.

This place is incredible! My mom and I stopped in on a Saturday night and needless to say we were not disappointed. We just sat ourselves and the very friendly waiter attended to us shortly. He brought us drinks, two horchatas- the best I've ever had, and then we placed an order for our appetizers. When the appetizers arrived they were HUGE- like, a meal and leftover size, we did not know that so we ended up taking 3/4th of the appetizers home with us. All of the food we ordered was SOOOO fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. The wait staff was friendly and helpful, the place was clean, everything was perfect. We will be returning! Keep up the excellent work!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
