It's tough being compared against your grandmother's tamales. As a Tamale place I found Josie's Tamale's to have solid middle to high marks! Tulsa has more that its fair share of good Mexican restaurants in every style you can thing of. But very few that go the extra mile to add a specialization in one of my favorite comfort food. The glorious Tamale. It's nice that Josie's ably fills this niche with a a tamale place serving up food that is great to eat in or take out. Their Tamale lineup includes: - Pork (Woo Hoo! One of my favorites.) - Beef - Chicken - Cheese (Mmm! One of my favorites.) - Jalapeno with cheese (Excellent balance of Kick and Mmm!) - Bean and cheese. - Bean. - Mixed Veggie Tamale. (Worth a try even if you are not a Vegetarian.) The tamale itself is made and cooked the old fashioned way with the masa (corm meal) and filling being steamed cooked inside the corn husks. The same way your grandmother (abuela) made them! Of course Josie's has the rest of the side you have come to know and love in a good Mexican restaurant. I suggest getting a Tamale plate. It is a great value and includes a salsa that doesn't pull any punches. Be sure and ask for a little extra rice and beans if you are feeling extra peckish and they will happily accommodate you. Josie's does not have not many tables If plan on eating at Josie's your immediate family you should be ok. Call ahead if you plan to bring the parents and cousins and they will save tables for you. Attention Wal-Mart shoppers! There is not reason to buy those crappy Tamales off the shelf! Josie's has your fresh tamales at a fair price! You can buy Josie tamales in bulk in half-dozen, Dozen, or greater amounts. I suggest a dozen at a time. You'll find eating a couple and freezing the rest to be a great way to have that quick meal ready for unexpected guest. And of course a midnight snack! If you expect to be picking up tamales during the Catholic and Mexican holiday's make sure you call ahead. Their tamales will be sold out if you just saunter in at the last minute. Especially during the Christmas to New Year time frame. For really big meals, parties, and special event Josie's offers catering. I have not used them for this kind of activity yet. But their dedication to giving excellent service would lead me to believe Josie's would provide a satisfying catering experience. I vote Josie's and one of the tasty Tulsa businesses that everyone should go to at least ten times in their life!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
